Danny Gallivan was simply the greatest play by play man of them all. I feel so lucky to have been able to listen to him on NNIC for a while before his retirement. He was so gifted and was the perfect accompaniment to those great Montreal teams of the era.
I remember watching this when I was a kid .... Watching again in 2023.... So much more entertaining compared to hockey today... I miss physical hockey.
The end of an era. By decimating the Flyers earlier, les Habs returned the game to finesse and speed. A team of hall of famers, who are now aged and departing us. Rinks with no adverts. Players with no helmets, so we could see them; and some with no teeth. Gone are Gallivan & Irvin, Doucet, the Forum, the HNIC theme song, the home-grown players who gave their heart and soul to their teams and cities, and the fans. Les Habs have never been equal to this team since.
Actually, but for a few mistakes, the Leafs played a strong game. Palmateer was an excellent goalie. But when your defence has holes and mistakes, and the attackers are 5 of the greatest, any goalie can look mediocre. From 1976-79, Les Habs were unbeatable. Such a treat to see these greats in their heyday.
1:10 Maybe, just maybe. If you learn how to say Canadiens properly, the hockey fairy will go back in time and give the Leafs a win in one of these back to back series' If that happens, I'll jog all the way, from Montreal, to wherever Joe Bowen lives. Once I arrive, I'll even sweep your front steps and driveway ;) And then I'll beat you Black & "Bloow, Blanc, Rougue." I apologize to Leafs fans and Ontarians, who do know how to pronounce certain French words, with the respect they deserve. I would not go and call Lanny, Looney Mcdonald, Howie Meeker, Mr. Weaker. Or say, EX-Conn Smythe. I would say Harold Bastard though and most would agree! In conclusion, it's okay to make mistakes but if you work on t.v. , try not to offend your audience. It tends to irk the fans that nothing to do but complain, for the next 5 years ;) Cheers from Montreal.
Awful hockey compared to today! Bad D. Bad goaltending. Poor overall skills by both teams and poor systems. Theyd be decimated by middle ranked teams now!
