#TheMinimalists #DecisionMaking #Discomfort
How do you make difficult decisions?
Sometimes when in doubt I just use a pendulum 😅
I weigh out my options and decide what would be the decision that would least to the least regret later in life. I would rather take the hard part now than later.
There is a certain irony with choosing, in that the closer two options are together, the harder it is to choose between them, but the less likely it is to matter which one we choose. So we spend way more time on the choices which matter least.
“Would you like a punch in the face or a delicious cup of hot coffee?”
“Ooh, a coffee, please”
“Now which coffee would you like: this mellow light roast with hints of milk chocolate and citrus or this full-bodied nutty blend with dried fruit undertones”
“Um, ah, hmm. I don’t know”.
Clearly the first choice was far more relevant to how well the rest of your day would go, whereas the second choice probably would have almost zero relevance - and yet it is on decisions like that that we spend so much time and mental energy.
So if you find it hard to choose between two options, that is a big signal that it probably doesn’t matter which one you choose, so just pick one at random and get on with the rest of your life.
There's fear that goes along with that uncomfortable path, but everything you've ever wanted lies on the other side of fear.
I pray and see which one fits my morals or values better. Everyone makes decisions based on some kind of value they hold however small imo.
Flip a coin!!
My last major coin flip led me to sell my house and move across country. Thank you tails 😊
