    You don't have to lock the camera in the channel box. You can lock it under View > Lock camera. For me that's a much quicker way :)

    Hi Mathew, when I turn the visibility of the skydome off, specular reflections in chrome sphere turn black, taking only shadows from the plane(shadow matt) and I don't want to turn off "cast shadow" in the plane settings. Would you happen to know a solution that will let me turn the visibility of the skydome light off and have the reflections in the sphere at the same time while retaining shadows?

      In the attributes of the skydome you can adjust the camera viability

    im in arnold 3.1.1.1 auto install with maya 2018.5 but couldn't see AOV Groups options in AOV area. I see 2 things there : Available AOVs and Active AOVs. So how to find AOVs Groups.

    What settings did you use to make your floor plain and ball look that grey and your shadow looks nice too. My own scene looks green even as I was following what you were doing. The reflections of the HDR turned my scene green.

    When I see the AOVs for my aiShadowmatte material, it doesn't show the indirect diffuse or the indirect specular, even though I already ticked the boxes for those earlier, is there any way to fix this?

    thanx!! Life saviour indeed! I have had problems with matteshadow settings, giving me some result, but a really bright result because of the skydome intensity, How can i control that. I have watched this over five times now, though it doesnt solve the prob'

      The skydome has an exposure setting you can use for this.

    How can I take the HDR image reflect on an object off. What I mean is that I just want to use the HDR's light on a object ?

      There should be an option on the skydome that allows you to turn of specular light.

    Hi Mathew. I'm using Maya 2019. I'm trying to render a single image. As i followed the steps, indirect_specular doesn't show up even though the box for indirect specular is checked. I activated the specular_indirect in AOVs instead. So i tried rendering the models in exr and tiff but once finished, the file is empty, there's no image. Hope you could me. Thank you!

      In Maya 2019 they changed the shadow matte shader to have the same specular_indirect as the normal shader. Not sure why it is blank. Have you lit it. Have a look at the use background options as well.

      @@justpressstart Thank you for responding! my models finally showed up. However my only problem now is that when I render them, the ground still shows up. I changed specular_indirect from rgb to rgba, but this makes my render blank

      You should be able to use the alpha channel to mask out the background in the compositor.

    im in arnold @t auto install with maya 2018.5, in my AOVs Groups not available, but both objects render in aovs without being selected.

    instead of batch rendering, if you don't have an arnold licence you should render sequence

    The indirect_diffuse and indirect_specular don't show up in my AOV options of my render settings. I also don't have the AOV Groups available in my render settings. Help?

      @@mino173 I ended up calling a friend at Arnold and got this reply;
      Hi J
      The tutorial is for an old version of Arnold (Arnold 4).
      In the old Arnold, AOVs were written by specific shaders (like the old Standard shader).
      Now, shaders don't write AOVs. It's the Arnold core render engine that takes care of that.
      If you scroll down in the AOV browser, you'll see AOVs for things like the indirect diffuse and indirect specular:

      Yes you can you just need to use the extract effect.

      Trucker Chaser you could apply an Arnold matte shader to the sphere, by creating a render layer on Arnold
