A lot of people upset about the SDI ad. This video was recorded before the allegations, we are doing our research before deciding if we want to move forward with the sponsorship.
I know people who attended the course. The allegations are true and SDI should refund every dime they've taken and apologize. We have enough people leeching off the American tax payer.

@@BayouBoy2443 I disagree. Hathcock may not have been a liar, but memory can be so different from what really happened when you have adrenaline pumping. Maybe hathcock didn’t actually see the body and got a report of what he did according to someone else’s bad observations and it was days later? Can we know for sure it wasn’t propaganda? It sure sounds like it. Cool story but I don’t buy it, this video wasn’t done right, bad science, didn’t account for the lost velocity of the round at that range. This video actually proves to me that it’s not true, contrary to how these guys made it look.
@@brentdennard6722 how can you still not believe it? They literally proved it was possible. If a random dude in a cornfield could do it, the most accurate and one of the best snipers in history could obviously do it in the jungle. And they did it at the right distance too. Dont believe mythbusters bs. They used modern scopes, modern guns and modern rounds. So please how do you still not believe it?
@@obiwankenobi7306 did you read my comment? I think it’s bad science. The round will have lost about a third of its energy at 700 yards. The test they did was point blank essentially and it barely made it through.
@@brentdennard6722 That's weird, because they repeatedly stated they were at 723 yards. 4:16 4:38
The only thing that makes that questionable, is the camera view at 4:38 which makes the target look close. The fact that the foreground is so out of focus makes me suspect they used a telephoto lens as those are known to have that effect. A good telephoto lens is able to make things miles away look close to the subject of the shot, or as they call it "collapse the shot". Meanwhile things in the foreground will be quite blurry. See Matt and Tom's "The lies of lenses: Behind the Scenes in Sheerness" for more.
So either they used a camera lens that is designed to make things far away look good, or they're lying. Outside of any other evidence, I'll side with using a telephoto lens instead of questioning the honor of a dude who can nail the same little sticker twice in a row from 723 yards.
@@MrSJPowell I thought you were kidding at first…. Wow. No, they were joking. The test in the video was not performed at 723 yards.. lmao
Never doubted Carlos. These three channels together were the perfect collaboration to put this to rest once and for all
Totally agree. Really rounded out it out in such a satisfying way. History, ballistics, and gratuitous technical slow-mo. Collaboration perfection.
I hate to ruin it for everybody, but they did not account for the lost velocity at the range the real life shot was taken. Considering it barely worked up close, not likely to have made it through that scope at range. They need to redo the test with custom loaded ammunition that will yield the approximate velocity that the full power round would have had at 700
@@brentdennard6722 Also the angle of the scope. Although it's possible the angle of the scope wouldn't matter, as it's possible the bullet was funneled through the tube, or Hatcock only *thought* the other sniper was aiming at him and perhaps cobra was actually aiming well over Carlos' head.
This was a good test, but not a perfect one. And unfortunately, hasn't 'settled it once and for all.' I'm team Hathcock. I mean, who would even come up with a story like that if it there wasn't at least some truth to it. It was a lot of skill to hit at that range, but it would be mostly luck to hit the scope. I've seen some amazing things that wouldn't be believed if it weren't on video.
@@GUNNER67akaKelt I like your thinking. Good test, but didn't settle it. I'm hesitant to call him a liar for sure, I shouldn't be so bold. If the facts were stretched maybe someone convinced him to for the purpose of making good moralizing propaganda for our guys, like the ghost of Kyiv Ace story did for Ukraine. based in truth, and only lies to help motivate our people, that's admirable. Let's just call it what it is after the fact though.
@@brentdennard6722 I don't know how widely known he was back then. I'm sure he had a rep but was it theater wide? He had a pretty hefty price on his head, so I would say he was the real deal. Truth is stranger than fiction.
Old guy here. Carlos also ended a female sniper and a NVA general as well as saving other Marines in a fire fight were he was injured. I don’t doubt any of this. But even if only half of this is true, it doesn’t detract from the fact that Carlos Hathcock is an absolute badass and the greatest sniper in Marine Corp history! Truly an American hero and deserving of every accolade laid upon him.

@noquartergiven7789 do you dispute his combat record or his shit talking?
@@jwalesoutlaw3294 who’s Chris Kyle?
It's the trajectory that is the problem, imo.
At 700 yds the bullet would be dropping in to the scope
Wasn't Hathcock shooting from an elevated position, though?
@@SynchronizorVideos probably. Which would mean the bullet would be dropping even more. If you look at a trajectory chart, you'll notice how much a bullet drops, the farther away the target is. Once you get out past three hundred yards, it's amazing how much drop occurs. It's the time in the air that determines how far something falls. Thirty-two feet per second, squared. Two and a half second flight time. The math doesn't lie
@@indivisible885 I’m not saying the elevation change helps with bullet drop. My thought is if the shot was made while they were aiming at each other, the guy at the lower elevation would have his rifle & scope angled upward, better aligning it with the trajectory of the bullet.

3:22 look at my man, Nick, just daddin it up. He looks like he wants to talk about boats and decks after he cracks a coors and a dad joke
I've never understood why people say this is impossible I mean it's just a bullet down a tube like obviously it's hard to make the shot becuase the angle has to be so perfect to not hit the sides at all. But bullet down hole seems pretty simple to me
Also it was a very long distance where the bullet needs to be arced a ton. This was just to see if you could theoretically do it.
The bullet has to penetrate a series of glass lenses. Thick glass is extremely hard and tends to smash the bullet.
A modern scope has so many thick lenses and they use super hard glass, its easy to see why the Mythbusters werent able to replicate the shot.
@Greg1096 yes but the scope is from the early to mid 40s, still not bad but no where near modern

@@Andrei-w7hI think the best part of that particular shot was the guy was standing on the rock that he used to zero the scope
@Andrei-w7h yep I just watched the chubby electron guy's video about it. I still stand by what I said about the upcoming video lol
The bicycle shot was a young Vietnamese boy running AK's to the VC. Carlos didn't want to kill the boy, so he shot the bicycle, hoping to scare the kid and make him run off. However the kid jumped up, grabbed an AK and started spraying the hillside, Carlos was on. Only then did he kill the boy.

Simo fought against a stronger enemy, not near peer, he also had counter snipers sent up against him. Which he ironically defeated due to scope glint among other things. Imagine the last thing you see being the man you believe you just sniped aiming a rifle right at you.
That 2 by 4 is probably the best weapon that scopes been mounted to lol
To be fair, the mosin was a pretty nasty rifle at the time it was produced and stayed semi relevant for a couple decades. WW2 era weapons are pretty deadly if it's operational and you can hit the target.
@@patrickevans9604 A couple decades? The mosin in many forms is used around the world even today.
the second scope wosen't mounted down, so once the bullet struck the scope it made it move, and the Mosin scope was a modern re-pop PU. Intro was badass! Slow-Mo footage was unreal.

Watching fat electrician now be right here thanks guys. I've always been a huge fan of Carlos Hathcock AKA "White feather"
I Got To Meet Carlos's Commander
About 15yrs Ago, At A Military Base Where I Served At, Maj Edward J. Land...
Carlos's Spotter Was Cpl. John R. Burke, He Was KIA At Khe Sahn On 6 June 1967, The Shot Was Taken At Less Than 150 Yds...
The rifle was a Winchester Model 70 Bull Gun. It was chambered in 3 different calibers, 30-06 Springfield, 300H&H and 300 Winchester Magnum. Hathcock wanted the rifles spec'ed in 300 Winchester Magnum, with a 10X Unertl target scope. Since the USMC had 173 grain Full Metal Jscket target ammo in 30-06, his request for the 300 Winchester Magnum version was denied.
now the army is using 300 winmag.
His Model 70 in Vietnam was a Target version.
But, imagine how bad @$$ he'd have been with a 300 Win. Mag.
Pretty sure he used a Bull when he won Wimbledon, in 300 H&H Magnum. One reason is that Jim Land said it was a 300 H&H AND because the 300 Win. Mag. was only available in Pre '64 Winchesters for ONE year. They are VERY rare in the standard rifle and EXXXXTREMELY rare in Target and Bull versions. I don't know anyone who has even seen one.
The military procurement procedures are also very slow, making the chances infinitesimal.
The Marine Marksmanship program DID already have them in 300 H&H.
Pre '64 300 Magnum rifle are FREQUENTLY mistaken for 300 Win. Mags. as today the Win.Mag. is WAAAAY more common but NOT in 1963. And before that NON-EXISTANT.
The 300 H&H guns weren't even marked that way as the ONLY 300 that existed was 300 H&H. Hence they were jusy marked 300 MAGNUM.
The 300 Weatherby Magnum came around WAY before the 300 Win. but Winchester didn't chamber for it, and it would not chamber so it didn't matter.
The only other .30 Magnum was the 308 Norma Magnum but it was not a "300" in name.
@jeffhutchins7048 That I didn't know, I thought the .300 Win mag wasn't introduced until after the introduction of the post 64 versions. I also know the .300 Win was developed in 63. I didn't know they produced rifles rifles in .300 Win for the pre 64 action. In my opinion Winchester should never had gone to a push feed design. They only did this to keep up with the Remington 700 chambered in the new 7mm Rem mag. Personally I think if Winchester kept the control feed action design and pushed the .300 Win mag like Remington pushed their new 700 I 7 Rem mag Personally I think the model 70 would have faired better.
@@jeffhutchins7048 , the Marine Corps Scout Snipers used the Model 70 Bull Gun and not a Target. Both rifles were equipped with removable Lyman target sights and Unertl scope bases. The main difference between them was the barrel contour, .750 diameter barrel for the Target and 1.140 diameter for the Bull Gun. The Target had a front sight ramp where the Bull Gun did not. The 300 H&H and the 300 Winchester Magnum had 28 inch barrels and a 24 inch for the 30-06. All the famous pictures of the Model 70 sniper rifles don't show a front sight ramp on the barrel.
I HAVE seen pictures of the Marine sniper rifles that are DEFINITELY target: right contour, front sight block and 24" barrel.
Some of them were also rebarrelled (with Douglas if I remember right) throws everything off.
It's possible they had Bull versions too, VERY possible, but EVERY photo I can find of actual Vietnam used rifles they are 24" Target or a rebarrel. The barrels are too light, and too short, to be Bull guns.
Here from Fat Electrician. Glad I came over.

If memory serves, the shot was recreated on a show called "Sniper's Deadliest Missions." I seem to remember them having the same problem in trying it with a modern scope versus a correct for the era Soviet rifle scope...and, using the .308cal round as well. While the bullet did start to come apart inside of the scope, there was still lead, jacketing, glass, along with pieces of the scop itself lodged within the ballistic dummy's head. It basically "canoed" the side of the dummy's skull. In slow motion, the sight of the wound cavity was enough to make one get a little of the "eebie-jeebies" to travel down the spine lol.
This was fantastic. Really enjoyed the tripod approach to the story. The history, the testing and the lore drops. Great content.
