In that same realm of argument, video games are the only media where this is somehow considered a taboo subject to do. Use a real item in a scene within the story of a book? Fine. Use an item on screen in a video or tv show or movie? Fine. Make a model of it and put it in a video game? All of a sudden there is fear of "stealing" copyright.
No, they do it to avoid frivolous lawsuits. They aren’t copying a gun to sell irl, so it falls under artistic license. They just change the name because those names are trademarked and companies like to throw pissy fits especially if their product is shown as bad. That’s why cars in movies have their logos and shit removed and if they do have all of that there it’s shown positively.

No, it's Californian law. The game is rated M for mature, which contrary to popular belief, does NOT mean "above the age of 18". And seeing as how the game is produced in the state of California, it is subject to a law that says that real firearms cannot be advertised or marketed to minors (people who are 17 or younger). So they're not just changing up all the guns to avoid copyright claims, they're also doing it because it's illegal for them to have accurate or realistic firearms in their game because that would be considered advertising real guns to minors.
This isnt the first time COD has ripped stuff and not given credit, I have a friend that used to make camo patterns and upload them to deviantart. They were copyrighted by my friend, and COD stole a bunch of them and made them into gun skins.
@@mk9326 unless Brandon trademarked it, I doubt it. They should give credit to him at minimum. Best practice would be to call and ask, pay him a royalty/do a collab.
I worked in the video game industry for years, and it may, or may not, surprise people to know that a lot (most??) of the people developing games have never fired or even touched a real firearm. When the company I was with started a game that was based a little more on 'real' firearms, vs fantasy/sci-fi weapons, I took the entire team out to the range and taught them all I could and we spent they day shooting a wide variety of firearms. I'd like to think it made a differenece in the final game.
Remember kids, if big game studios don't care about pirating an eight year labor of love from someone, there's zero reason to feel bad about pirating any of their materials.
most games already do. I mean... this guy literally showed a footage of COD. He does not own that game, he can not show it on youtube same way i cant show Avengers infinity war. Most game companies simply dont care if you show it, but that content you post is in no way yours. You have license to play, not license to distribute and profit from their work. He showed in game animations. Does he own those animations? No? Then he can not show them, thats a copyright strike.
I make AAA shooters for a living, it's literally my specialty and has been for 10 years. Your "likely scenario" is pretty much spot on. One artist is watching your channel, saw the AK50, though "Damn that's cool as fuck, I want it in the game.", went through all the models they had and planned the most efficient way to recycle something to make it in the game, hence it looking more like an RPK than your gun (top cover for example, they probably didn't have the bandwidth to model the whole back of the COD gun like your AK) Nothing nefarious, just a fan that wanted an AK50 in his game after watching your stuff and that was the most efficient way to produce it. And for people who were telling you to sue: I deal with the legal side of all this all the time and it's impossible in this case. Change one part of the gun, the name and put fake markings on it and you're good to go. The COD version is too far removed and you'd get your case thrown out the same day you file it.
Cool to know he was basically right. I think it's a cool homage to the AK-50, and I'm glad Brandon isn't wasting time and money on trying to sue. Let's just enjoy the game and let Brandon continue to do his thing.
@MrWhiteRabbitt they have had to retract material they plagiarized from others in the past, though. Also games that genuinely care about authenticity, go out of their way to seek out licensing agreements with the firearm designers in order to display the weapon with its real life parameters. Something that Activision and Treyarch actively did about 15 years ago. Not so much today.
Stoner didn't design the M-16 since it's a military designation. Stoner's design (AR-10, scaled down to AR-15) had a specific type of a bolt and required a specific type of a gunpowder and it worked flawlessly. The M-16 was made by cutting corners, with cheap bolts and the standard ball had really bad gunpowder which is the reason for the unreliability problems and why it needed a forward assist.
@@glandhound It didn't need a forward assist, and Stoner straight up said so several times. Direct quote: "Reasoning was that every rifle that had ever been used in the United States Army always had something that you could pound on or beat on or something to help it along in case if was not functioning properly [...] I really didn't feel that was necessary, I questioned quite a bit on what their justification really was, and what experience they had that would show that it'd help. And they had a hard time coming up with anything that showed a justification, except to please the Chief of Staff of the Army" The fouling with the standard ammo _was_ an issue, which is why they replaced the bolt-piston impingement system with a short-stroke. But simple logic - if you've got too much fouling and the bolt cannot lock, then forcing it forward will only cause it to get jammed even more thoroughly, giving you maybe a single shot off before the system fully locks up. Only way to really help there would've been looser tolerances (like on the AK, for example), but even then there will be a critical point at which the fouling is too much (practical experience shows that on the AK it's mostly affecting the firing pin though).

Call of Duty always does shit like this they'll change the name and change the design slightly in order to avoid a lawsuit but it's still effectively stealing somebody else's creation
It's partly copyright, partly Pearl clutching media clowns, and also Activision... well they can't afford those licensing fees you know?! They're so expensive!

It was hilarious seeing "theAKguy" in the killfeed with the AK50 next to it. Imagine seeing that while you're playing in a random lobby.
I make AAA shooters for a living, it's literally my specialty and has been for 10 years.
Your "likely scenario" is pretty much spot on. One artist is watching your channel, saw the AK50, though "Damn that's cool as fuck, I want it in the game.", went through all the models they had and planned the most efficient way to recycle something to make it in the game, hence it looking more like an RPK than your gun (top cover for example, they probably didn't have the bandwidth to model the whole back of the COD gun like your AK)
Nothing nefarious, just a fan that wanted an AK50 in his game after watching your stuff and that was the most efficient way to produce it.

"I just had enough stimuli to fry the brain of a medieval child." I'm fucking dead
Saying “It is my gun.” In the context of a fire arm you designed and it’s in a popular video game sounds like something Eugene Stoner would say.
Imagine if Eugune Stoner lived long enough to sue Call of Duty for using the M16 in their games. People would roll their eyes.
Him chasing after the Gold skin one was priceless "Give me back my gun" 😂.
And they had a hard time coming up with anything that showed a justification, except to please the Chief of Staff of the Army"
The fouling with the standard ammo _was_ an issue, which is why they replaced the bolt-piston impingement system with a short-stroke.

100% a conversion kit. Like a ruger 10-22 to Abraham's kind of conversion
from what I've noticed, conversion kits basically are just brand new guns in this game lol idk if its a workaround to not have to add more to the list but they essentially transform it into a completely different gun it's silly
I hate how they finally made the game realistic (in terms of art) with mw19
But then just ruined it, classic Activision

@@CrimsonDoveKarting 2019 had the worst maps and most camper friendly gameplay
@@SmokeyOwOscamping is more realistic than terminator larping. It still had good run and gun too, it just wasn't balanced for that to be the defacto playstyle. It was still the best/only good COD game to have come out in years. . .
Send activision a cease and desist letter just like they do to everyone that takes their property.
fr he should do that
Wouldn't stand up in court. He could do it for publicity, but they can just ignore it.
why so the company that makes AK can do the same when actibliz has a license for the AK platform?
@@adhdchief15 They have a lot bigger problems rn
Please, especially after their petty C&D on that cod mod they shut down a few days ago

Seeing brandon play call of duty is something I didn't know I needed in my life.
9:27 i was totally expecting an SDI plug right about here lol
"Kill me with my gun ? Fuck you" Had me rolling
Now everyone going to be larping as Brandon Herrera in Call of Duty
Does MW3 have a makarov? That plus AK-50 is peak Papa Kalash.
I'mma LARP as Cryptid Nick.
"You haven't equipped anything but a t-shirt!"
"Yes."
You need to do a match on a bigger map, like Battle Royale or something.
I like how you flipped when the dude took your rifle (that you designed) then complemented his set up with the suppressor xD
This is still a fumble from Activision. If they had contacted you about putting both the AK .50 and YOU in the game, it would have sold like hot cakes.
They removed NickMercs from the store for saying "leave the kids alone". No way in hell they'd ever let Brandon on, especially after he ran in a republican primary.
I don't think they're going to associate themselves with somebody who is running for the Senate. That's a little too bit political. Also their company. Their interest is in making money. They couldn't care less about him and his success. He doesn't have any sort of patent on his design so he has no legal protection.
They’re not going to touch Brandon with a 10 foot pole
They’ll rip his design tho
They’re owned by blackrock… all they care about is most money made with least amount of work along with those lovely esg scores. This company and this franchise has been dead for awhile now

Time to one up CoD and make the AK-50 select fire.

It would disintegrate anything on both ends of the gun. XD
@@MintMilk.his dad?
That is pretty awesome Brandon! Would love to one day be able to check out the AK50.
You mean the COD developers don't understand gun designs and just steal things that they find online without knowing how they actually work?! I am shocked! shocked!
Love how modern game developers research are based on tiktok, memes and whatever streamer complains the most
@@toucan6109holy that’s sadly way too accurate
Not the IW team I argue, but the other studios, fuck yeah.
A game from the 90s/00s called "Hidden and Dangerous" had an M41 Johnson but used the bolt action animation on it.
tho tbf often designs get changed to work better with the game. Like that one shotgun that has like 4 independent tubes you can load and rotate between which cod just made out to be a drum mag, entirely missing the point of the gun but in that case it was done for gameplay purposes because I don't think anyone wants to sit there and watch your operator load all the tubes with each individual shell.
So yeah a lot of the guns don't make sense and wouldn't work but that isn't necessarily because of ignorance, some cases it's simply for gameplay purposes. CoD is still shit tho.
The AK50 conversion kit:
contains:
- AK50, one each
- drum magazine, two each
-waste bag, one each
-manual
manual:
open the waste bag with both hands
let go of the waste bag with one hand
grab your ak47 with the empty hand
insert your ak47 into the waste bag
let go of the ak 47
close the waste bag
discard the wastebag
open the package of the new AK50
take out the AK50
have fun
only to be applied by trained gunsmiths
check for the legality in your local jurisdiction.
Weapons might cause injury or death
only use with appropriate ammunition
Not intended for children.
