  • Paced bottle feeding helps make the bottle work more like the breast. This helps breastfeeding baby go back and forth between bottle and breast without a “nipple confusion”.

I had to have emergency surgery when my daughter was 2 months old and she'd never had a bottle. It was a nightmare and so hard on her and my husband. I made sure the rest of my kids all took a bottle, too. This is such a blessing for new parents.

Babies’ little bodies fascinate me. So tiny and perfect. The fact that they are born already knowing how to suck milk seems miraculous.

Most animals come out the womb taking their first steps... compared to that, drinking milk seems inferior.

Truly fascinating and amazing to see..I have 3 kids. And each one fed different. My first daughter ended up bottle feeding pretty much right away and she was very happy and wanted bottle always. My second daughter,3 yrs later, she loved to bottle and breastfeed..it was perfect for both of us.I could feed her anytime convenient, and I could also leave her with dad and family and she would easily take a bottle. Then our last,my son, only was breastfeed,he would have it no other way..I could pump towards the end and he would sometimes except that. But he was such a Boob baby..lol.Luckily at that point I was already a stay at home momma..to tend to all 3.So busy, but rewarding, and blessed💓

yep, and they will actually crawl along the stomach to the breast immediately after birth if you let them! Which of course all mammals are able to do whether they walk directly after birth, or they're tiny almost-still-fetus kangaroos when they are born in the pouch.

This video popped up in my feed because I have horrible baby fever (my 5th grandbaby is due any minute now.. literally) and I sit here and binge watch all kinds of baby videos. I was struck by how absolutely gorgeous this angel is. Oh, that perfect little round baby head and her little teeny toes all flared out - the fact that you have her undressed for feeding time makes me so happy to see. She's so beautiful, you guys did a terrific job with the genetic distribution! Lol

This was a beautiful video. The only thing that I think would be a super bonding experience for the dad is if he could hold the baby in his arms like a breastfeeding mother. That way he would have the extreme pleasure of eye to eye contact. The way a baby looks up at you when breastfeeding is one if the most intensely loving experiences a mother can have. They also will look up at you when using a bottle.

This was a very young newborn without much head and neck control. Dad didn’t feel comfortable in that position as baby was super hunched over. Once the baby matured, dad absolutely switched to that position. This is for young newborns under 4-6 weeks while they still lack head, neck and trunk control.

It annoys me so much when people say dad's can't help feed a nursing baby because they really can. And if mom is struggling to nurse dad's doing paced bottle feeding can give mom and baby time to figure things out. My son didn't latch until he was 2 months old. He was early and small. Without my husband we wouldn't have been successful.

If I tip the bottle enough to totally full the teat, then it feels like the flow is too fast. But if I tip it less then the teat has some air in and I'm worried baby is sucking some air in. (I've got Mam size zero test, so already the slowest)

I’ve seen so many people feeding their babies with a bottle and not holding them ,I think this probably in a hospital setting ,but I’ve seen many where the parents aren’t holding them ,it’s such a nurturing thing to do ,I don’t understand why they don’t do it ,can someone explain this to me,I’m a retired nurse, and I’ve had two children, who are now both adults ,and I have five grandchildren, they were all breast fed and I breast fed my children ,so if someone can explain why this doesn’t happen with so many mothers now ,it appreciate it ,not in this video however.

    • @Yakumoki
      @Yakumoki 3 года назад +4

Are you asking why mothers choose to bottle feed not breastfeed? Breastfeeding doesn't come natural to everyone, and not everyone wants to breastfeed for whatever reason. It's great you breastfed your babies and your grandchildren were breastfed. Many mothers have to return to work too soon after a baby. And the whole it takes a community to raise a baby has been thrown out the window, it's so sad really. Especially in these covid times, it's so hard to raise a newborn baby and look after the home at the same time, it really takes a toll on mental health and it's very isolating. I bet you are an amazing support to your family but not everyone has that. There are also a lot more mother's with depression/anxiety so I imagine this might have a part to play as well.

Help me understand! I was always under the impression that babies bottle feeding lying down was to blame for chronic ear infections in bottle fed babies because milk pools in the cheeks (and lips, hence caries). Isn't this basically the same thing? Even with pacing, it's still bottle feeding which means the milk will pool. I've seen this recommended a bunch, but I never have recommended it because I'm confused! Help me understand, what am I missing??

This is the same position a baby would be at the breast. In side lying. You don’t want a baby in their back. In side lying you can slightly elevate their head by lifting your legs up. Formula feeding increases the risk of ear infections, but not breastfeeding for breast milk.

I had about the same concern...that with bottle feeding, a baby's head needs to be elevated a bit so that milk doesn't go up the Eustachian tubes. In this video it was hard to see if she was elevated.

@@lalactation It sounds aa if the problem is caused by bottle feeding rather than what is being fed. It’s a positioning issue, not formula vs. breast milk. If a baby was fed breast milk from a bottle, the risk would be the same as formula. Is this correct?

When feeding a young newborn who lacks good head and neck control, you can safely feed them in an elevated side lying position. It is hard to see from this video but that is what this father is doing. As the baby got bigger and had more control he switched positions. This is a temporary position for a short amount of time. Formula increases the risk of ear infections in bottle fed babies but not breast milk.

She is breastfed! There were some other issues where supplementation was needed, so while we were working on breastfeeding I taught the family safe bottle feeding to be able to go back and forth from breast to bottle. Breastfeeding is a learning curve and sometimes it needs support along the way.

Thankyou for your answer. I completely understand that breastfeeding can be a real art. I started to breastfeed, but docs took my baby off the breast and onto the bottle. You see, l had a complete nervous breakdown, my brother killed in an accident, a wrotton husband and a severe baby birth. The doctors thought my milk might turn sour so l was robbed of breastfeeding. I only had about a week of it and l never really got the hang of it. Good luck to you and your baby and God Bless. I never went back for a second, l still think about it and wonder if it could have been different but it wouldn't be any different. I really was robbed. Now l am 69!!

Guess you missed the point. Many times babies cannot be breast fed as continuous as mom would prefer. Sometimes a bottle us needed. It's best to get them used to both.

I just find it so sad when babies are laid down to be fed, when they could be held. Why wouldn't dad want to have this perfect angel in his arms?

It's so she doesn't stop feeding from her mum. The nurse said repeatedly that she was to latch like she was on the breast, ypu dont want her to chug it because that won't happen at the breast. It's mimicking breastfeeding.
