- Officials said there would be no criminal charges filed against the Asheville, North Carolina residents who were caught on camera pulling baby black bears from a tree near their apartment complex. NBC News’ Maggie Vespa speaks with the wildlife official who confronted the group at the center of the viral video.

There really isn't anything to worry about here. These same folks will make a mistake with an adult animal near and they'll pay a big price for screwing with its young.
The reason there are public announcements warning people not to do this is not because it is wrong (even though it is), it is because it is SO dangerous.

Yes, there is. It is called 'natural law'. And if a mama bear had been present, the idiots in this video would have been found guilty and punished by mama-bear herself. Many folks act like nature is completely safe and there is no danger. That is a completely stupid point of view, but here we are.

The folks in the video don't understand the dangers involved in messing with young bears. They are very VERY lucky the mama wasn't near. This could have ended up with some of those folks in the hospital or dead.

"not understanding the dangers" is a part of lacking social awareness. trying to handle a wild animal, especially a cub, indicates a lack of social awareness. most people would default to keeping their distance when unsure if the animal is endangered or dangerous (or has a dangerous mother). people who are locals to their towns know what species should be left alone. a lot of the time it's uneducated tourists or people who just flat out don't care. the locals in this town are more than likely aware that you should avoid contact with these wild animals, which you'd think any person with half a brain would realize. self awareness can include - listening actively, cooperation, respect, and self regulation. let me know if you have any more questions.

If the mama charged towards those two narcissistic vacuous girls it would have more then likely to have been put down. The only reason I am glad mama not around.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour from humans. Also goes to show how much misinformation exists about black bears-that they “aren’t dangerous” (and only grizzlies should be feared). If momma bear had been around to witness that, I guarantee you several of those folks wouldn’t be around anymore. I bet you those people in that video are the same type of people who believe the old (and very incorrect) saying, “if it’s a grizzly play dead, if it’s a black bear fight back.” Would have loved to see them try the latter, with one of her cubs in their hands…

I read yesterday that cub was injured slightly. Not sure if it's true.
I have now learned that cub ran away and was found alone in a retention pond. I don't know if the other baby is back with the Momma or not. It's heartbreaking

Where was the cubs' mother? They possibly saved a cub by pulling them out of the tree. Or they separated it. But again, where's the mother bear? Dead?
You’re not supposed to touch wild baby animals. Period. Any type of human contact endangers them from getting separated/abandoned from their mothers. If you’re concerned, call wild animal professionals. A guy tried to "save" a baby bison in Yellowstone last year; he ended getting publicly shamed; and fined since national parks operate with strict rules around fauna/flora. The baby bison had to be euthanized since the herd wouldn’t accept it back. Obviously if it’s in the way of a moving car, try to direct it out of the way without making physical contact. But otherwise don’t touch them; and give them their distance, for their and your own safety.
