    I like that the game's "easy" difficulty doesn't make fun of you for choosing it like so many other games would. It knows that people unfamiliar to the Doom Dance and he series as a whole are going to choose it, and the best way to ease people into something isn't by making fun of them for taking it slow, it's to encourage them to take it at their own pace, which is the reason an easy difficulty exists.

    • @furiousfap3369

      No shame in playing on easy while learning the game, as long as you're having fun. If/when you want to move up to a higher difficulty, dont get discouraged too quickly if you die a lot. Viewing each death as a learning opportunity is important.
      Also the first few levels are actually some of the hardest. You're trying to learn this complex game and get acquainted with the enemies, and you don't have a full arsenal or a lot of upgrades yet, so it is tough. Once you get further most people find it gets easier because you're stronger, have more weapons, and are better at using the tools at your disposal.

      @@kionicxnm Superhot, particularly Superhot VR is another. The base game, eh, unless you're speedrunning it's not that in depth. The endless mode is where shit gets real in VR. Look the game up if you don't know what I'm talking about, but time moves when you move. You also have to manually aim with your arms and when throwing weapons, there's a HUGE skill curve to knowing how to aim your throw, how hard to throw it, predicting where the enemy will be so if he's strafing you can throw where he's going to be rather than where he is that moment. And any time you go to take a shot or throw an object, you have to know those actions speed time up you have to be ultra-aware of everything around you, since 1 shot and you're dead. Then there's remembering how much ammo you have in each weapon since they all have set limits and can't be reloaded, and a blank fire will still speed up time. On my best endless run, I got a high score of 733 kills, took me 30-40 minutes of physically contorting my body in ANY way that would help me dodge a bullet or line up a shot. Non VR superhot is basically the same game, same mechanics just without the physical interaction. check them out

    I somehow understand why this game might seem too hard for ppl nowadays... it relies on reaction speed, reflexes, spacial awareness and quick decision making. Being in my late 30s, I played all Doom releases, all of them. I ripped through the campain and the expansion packs in no time, I enjoyed every second of it and never felt like it was too difficult! This is an absolute masterpiece! Great video btw!

    • @Allstin
      @Allstin  Год назад +8

      It’s a challenge for sure - combat chess as Hugo said! While reaction and such is key, knowing your (and your enemies’) next move, and planning accordingly, adapting to when things goes awry… that’s key! You don’t need quickswitching for example. Other things are more important (though it helps for sure)
      Also 30s guy here. Started with the classic as a kid!

      @Allstin I've noticed 1 thing with games that require actual skill and games that are being hard for the sake of being hard like the dark souls series and elden ring.
      Doom eternal explains its mechanics to you well, AND tells you the techniques and core strats you need to master. It tells you all the information you need and tries to hide as little from you as possible. Doom eternal also has different difficulty settings rather than just being hard so you can make it easier or harder, keeping the game engaging.
      Distance, is another game that requires skill and the top speedrunners in the game play it with perfection, like in doom. I've actually done speedruns of tracks in distance simply because its actually fun to learn it and quite satisfying to pull off the top time on a track. It too has advanced techniques you have to learn.
      The problem with dark souls series and elden ring I've noticed is fromsoft deliberately hides key information from you, particularly in elden ring such as hiding the poise and stance meters. These games are also not that well balanced. In doom you have the tools to keep up with the enemies speed, but in elden ring for example, you do not many a times.
      The exception to this was dark souls 2 sotfs which took somewhat a similar approach to doom eternal in that it did balance its weapons quite well, gives you ways to make the game harder AND has a sort of skill ceiling requirement when doing PVP. Sadly fromsoft removed a lot of that. Unfortunately ds2 explains almost nothing about its mechanics so you don't know what you are even doing wrong. Or come up with a strat.
      Thats why I found playing doom eternal still fun on the harder difficulty settings as I could see where I could be messing up. And looking at guides its just re-explaining and expanding upon what the game already told me.

    • @Kburn1985
      @Kburn1985 8 месяцев назад

      @@siyzerixmiyazaki does teach you. His hand is much heavier though, that's how you get tree sentinel and morgott at the start. He also knows people will go online to get guides, which is why he lets players leave messages.
      Also, the hardest fromsoft game has the best tutorial, as detailed, or even more detailed than doom eternal, but you just can't teach the game system other than shoving genichiro down your throat. The dance cannot be explained or taught, you just have to do it to learn it.

    • @siyzerix
      @siyzerix 8 месяцев назад

      @@Kburn1985 @Kburn1985 Doom eternal literally tells you what each enemy weakness is and how to beat them, how much your buffs will last for, demon glory states, etc.
      Elden ring meanwhile cannot even tell you how much stance damage your attacks do since you have a hidden stance meter. Even making it visible its no guarantee an enemy will go into a stance break as they can ignore the meter going zero. Does the game explain enemy weaknesses and how to beat then in the fastest way? No, it doesn't. that's discounting half the stuff is hidden from you, something doom eternal avoids actively.
      There is no way ER's tutorial is more detailed than doom eternal's. Otherwise the tree sentinal and margit would be far easier.

Like I'll do the advanced stuff mostly consistently (though I need to experiment more with faltering than just Ice Bomb or Shield Bash) but the times I don't still show up (also I don't have the best of aim, but I can make up for that with Chrono Strike and having put enough hours into the game to figure out pathing and good options).

      You're right, the people who become absolute beasts at the game really quickly often have hundreds or thousands of hours of playtime in FPS games prior to picking up Eternal. And even if they dont, who cares? some things come more naturally to some people than others. as long as you're having fun and getting better at your own pace thats all that matters.
      I have the same problem tho, feel like I should be better than I am for my playtime. but at the end of the day I've had a lot of fun playing this game and gotten way better at it than I was. going from sucking on HMP to completing SGN ML on UN has been a blast. I could be way better than I am now, and I'll never be Zero Master, but I'm happy how far I've come. the fact I have room to improve is a good thing, it gives me reason to continue playing

Only thing is that my pride sometimes gets in the way and I am too perfectionist and in turn get frustrated. I gotta learn to take it easy. Congrats on beating SGN ML on UN btw. This actually helped me identify a few issues I had, mostly in switching quickly to the right weapon at the right time and using them in the right way. It also helped me figure out that I am not using the meathook 100%! Of all things I didn't know you could use it to launch yourself upward. I like this video, you basically said it differently but I think one of the traits a better player has over a less experienced one is the fact they know their tools much better. A good example is how the Marauder was fought in the first few months of DOOM Eternal, players did what they were told: Super shotgun when eyes green mid range. But now players who have a better understanding of the tools at hand can approach the fight in multiple different ways and come out succesful. Same goes for the armored mancubus, we were told we have to blood punch their armor off so we did and we got hit by an AOE explosion. Now everytime I see an cybermancubus i'm formulating a viable combo in my head: Did I hit him yet? No -> Go for remote detonation falter, Blood punch, super shotgun. I did hit him so maybe he wont falter, I need a guarenteed falter so go for frag, icebomb, or microwave beam to get the safe blood punch. Or my favorite scenario: I don't even have a blood punch, but this enemy is easy to dodge so I can either engage now, or take a chance letting him live and come back when im better armed. Chess with guns and monsters.

    This was great video Allstin. I can totally see the transition when I started from beginner, to intermediate, and now I can call myself advanced player. ID should make some kind of a mod test where it gives you a title of those belts colors, the white, blue, black ect. That'd be really interesting. For example there should be time, and in that specific time there should be couple of things that player has to fulfill, like some challenges. Let's say like this. You have 1 minute to kill those type of demons, but within that time you also must: Use Meathook to traverse 10 times, use a microwave beam to stun 5 enemies, use an ice grenade in combination of frag grenade and flame belch 3 times. Destroy 10 weakspots with precision bolt following with balista shot (or vice vers). Use a chainsaw 10 times. Something like this. We start from beginners and then slowly way up to other ranks. And when you get the fullest rank you get a certificate. The way I imagined this is making DOOM Eternal as Sport Game in a Singleplayer. Like American Ninja Warrior, Olympics. I see this like an achievable and quite possible

    • @Allstin
      @Allstin  3 года назад

      Nice that you can see the change!
      The closest thing to that is the classic mode master level, and other things to come. The skins are basically how you can measure yourself now... in a way. Even then, it’s maybe not the same? Especially since only the UN skins you need to be on UN for, the other challenges can be done on any difficulty

      @@Allstin What I discovered when going on my second playthrough of UltraNightmare is that the way it gets easier is because you learn the spawn location and obliterate enemies ASAP. It involves a lot of critical thinking because you have just one life. True you can limit yourself, but going all the way up and die by starting the whole new game is brutal for health imo. Like beat UN only with a pistol. I don't say that kind of stuff is impossible to achieve, but it limits you and not everyone would be into that. But this test or mode can be it's own thing. Like a Horde mode or Parkour stage. I edited on my comment where I see that DOOM Eternal can become as sport type of game in a singleplayer. Like in Ninja Warrior were they are completing certain amount of obstacles within given time.

    I played the base campaign on "I'm too young to die" and feel it gave me a false sense of security and I could just go round full auto shotguning everything and then did the same in AG part 1. Then I had this crazy idea to try AG 2 on Nightmare and it was a horrendous experience dying on every single arena as I didn't have a clue how to fight. This forced me to try playing a completely different game and whilst I am not good yet by any stretch I can comfortably get to level 2 of AG2 on UN which is a start I guess. My aim has gotten somewhat decent as well as I have had to master the ballista and heavy cannon shot.

    According to this classification I think I would fall into somewhere between Intermediate and advanced, Iv'e noticed myself doing certain advanced combos but I phase in and out of the zone defaulting to bad habbits. For example, takin out a cyber mancubus for me is a frag grenade into the falter into the bloodpunch and finishing him of with an ssg shot or ballista, but other times I just rocket them down even if I have shells and bloodpunch losing times and getting cornered in the process.

    After completing Nightmare, I feel like I'm in the advanced. I've put 80 hours into PC so far and probably double that on PS4. Moving to PC opened so many new avenues of gameplay... and I still am not bored of Doom Eternal. "I could never be that good" used to be my mindset watching people play on Nightmare. I never really intended to do it, I thought it was stupid. After so many hours playing though, you're going to get better whether you're really aspiring to be or not. My nightmare run was about as hard as my first ultraviolence run, I died a lot in the same places that got me on UV, but I noticed in between the huge arenas, I was killin it. My advice for new players is start low. Try hurt me plenty, if it's too easy go to UV. If it's too hard, go to I'm too young to die. Either way you go, you actually have to play to improve, and if you're not willing to, you just don't like the game and that's ok, just don't blame the game. You can dislike something without attributing your dislike to some huge flaw that people can't see because they're sheep. Eternal, the more I play it, is becoming a better game. Probably my favorite combat system in an FPS ever.

    Advanced here. Even after beating everything on UN, I still lack my positioning skills, when I find an opening I often overstay my welcome. I think I can dodge very well, so if I am paying attention I don't get hit often and constantly restack, but if I get tunnel vision my hp just disappears.
    To be completely honest, based on what you said I am right in the middle of the advanced spectrum. My positioning is often lacking when compared to people like you, but if anything I got very good at one thing: killing enemies very fast. And that makes up for it, or so it seems. If I need to focus on the survivability, I can do that no problem, so long as I don't have to kill the enemy at the same time. I can do either on a high level, but not both at the same time.
    I think what separates the elite, like lighningbreak and frosty from the rest is not the fact that they kill things a tiny bit faster than an advanced player, or that they can dodge reliably, just like an advanced player, or their decision making, because you can make any decision, but without the ability to execute ( like aim, dodge, combos ) it's worth nothing. An advanced player can do either imo, but an elite player can do ALL of them at the same time. They kill while staying untouchable, and consistently make the best decisions without having to step back and think for a few seconds, which for us often manifests in moving around trying ( very important, *only* trying, but not succeeding ) to dodge and find an opening. An elite player just goes in and comes out with full hp.

    I'm a pretty solid intermediate console player, and the main sticking point I have (and which TAG1+2 really exposed) was that I struggle to crowd control and escape pressure when there's multiple heavies and super heavies gunning for me. I use the shield and yeethook as "get me outta here" safeguards, but when I dont have a good hook point or shield is on cooldown, I kinda panic and demons overwhelm me. It also doesn't help that I struggle to "read" the kill threshold vs. stagger threshold of fodder demons, so when I'm pressured by heavies and health is low, I "over-damage" the fodder and essentially lose my health lifelines. (seriously, a zombie dies with TWO assault rifle shots, and sometimes even one shot kills it, like how the fuck does anyone farm fodder for resources when they just die from slightest graze? At least in 2016 there was the rune that increases the threshold to basically guarantee staggers. In Eternal I can just never get glory kills when i need them, it happens almost by "accident" but I can't just surgically conjure a stagger state on demand

I lack awareness but that's something I would work on. Also, as a tip for players to get to the advanced or master tier, the unofficial Master Level mods (at least for PC players) are a good way to improve, yes most of them are very overwhelming, but also they demand you to keep pushing your gameplay and lower time reactions and awareness.

    I used to think enemies like the Marauder were extremely unfair, and made no sense. After awhile though, I made it to DLC 2, and I had seen more videos about him as time went on, and I formulated more strategies. I wasn't any good at quick swapping. Hell, I'm still terrible at it, but at the end game, I could now take on that beast of a fighter, and realized where he stood in the game. He was made the way he was for a reason, and he was meant for players to figure out what he does, and to take advantage of learning how long he is staggered for, what to do in that moment, and when to quick swap at that perfect moment while also watching for various enemies that will likely come at you, whether you are ready or not. Now I am at a constant movement, and I'm picking up slowly how to quick swap better. Seeing this as well just built my confidence even further. I think I'm going to try Ultra Nightmare mode again and see if I can pull through it. I just hope I don't die at level 2 again. 😅

    It's really all practice. You dont get better at something if you dont do it. Sure you can watch these good players and pick up on their habits but in the end you still have to put in the work. I used to play on hurt me plenty when I started the game. I really started playing and practicing intensely in december and now Nightmare is the only interesting difficulty with most stuff. Still havent beaten UN tho so I think I'm not quite fully "advanced". But I think I will get it if I just try more :D
    Anyways great video as always!

    Thanks for the video. I knew I was in the intermediate part, I know a bit of the falter sistem and combos that allow me to kill demons fast enough to not having trouble with them, the mayor problem I have is with the posisioning part, I get hit more than I should and that gets me killed in all my nightmare runs way more than my UV runs. Once I figure it out is over for hell. That and switch combos on console...

    one thing I noticed is a go a lot for glory kills instead of just killing the enemy and keep it pushing. I still have to work on that.

    I only did one playthrough of this. It was on Ultra Violence and I started out at beginner and by the time I finished I would say I was mid intermediate. Certainly not advanced but I understood the Doom dance somewhat in my muscle memory. Then I stopped playing. Decided to pick it up again after a couple of years and all the skill is gone. I'm actually even worse than I used to be before because I don't game as much in general. But I'm relearning it faster so my rate of improvement is better than before.

      @@Allstin I’m at a crossroads with Eternal. I have great fun on UV where I dominate. On nightmare I die too often and I don’t really have as much fun. Either I try and improve or just stick with what I enjoy or move on to other games.
      As far as improving goes I’m trying to get better about using combos. I can do the SSG balista. I learned if I use balista first on a marauder I can do balista, SSG, Batista and get more damage in per stun. I need to learn more combos and not fumble the buttons. I’ll often panic and just swap weapons without firing lol.
      It feels unfair that I die so fast in a battle if anything goes wrong. Like I get stuck on an enemy or a ledge. You go from full health to dead so quickly. Maybe I just need more practice.

    I see myself as another Intermediate ocassionally borrowing an advanced skill or two. Playing on Nightmare and playing all the fights, even optional ones. Still dying a lot, but enjoying myself tremendously. Typically with no BFG or Crucible, because I suck with consumables in all games. Not just because I worry too much I might need it later, since, obviously, I often times KNOW that it is a free use, but mainly because it upsets "my groove" as it would for a typical Intermediate and do more mistakes then. Some things that move me above Intermediate happened in TAG 1. It taught me to be a bit conservative more and dont rush when I dont know that I have a tool to deal with the current situation, instead go harvest some fodder. The Trial of Maligos (the boss fight in Blood Swamps) showed me that I am actually kinda comfortable with SSG traversal and I know how to use that to get out of a tricky situation and gives me time for more accurate PB/Ballista shots. After all, it is Meathook+PB/Ballista boss fight. In TAG 2 Im now more conscious about herding AI and use that for armor pooling. There is nothing more enjoyable than seeing 4 or 6 Hell Knights and luring them around and then grenading and flame belching and getting ham on them. Or abusing the slowness of Mancubi and lining them up and just chewing through them with turret chaingun, while triggering falters. Also, while I still overuse SSG+Ballista on the Marauder, I actually started with the Remote det+Ballista, but I know that what is key for me is to get some distance from the Marauder to make his AI do what I want (ie be stupid and dash in and immediatelly strike) and I dont feel all too terrible, when I have to use something else like Shield bullying or shotgun grenades to fight them. I guess I have about 2 tools for each of the heavier enemies, though there is always one more reliable. Currently the thing that ends up killing me the most is when I dont see a spawn of a fast demon, which I might even know about of due to memorization, and getting surprised by him from an angle I didnt really expect, because I was still trying to find him to know where exactly they are. Basically getting the info for situational awareness. Cursed Prowlers are the worst in this. My success rate at killing them after I get cursed is about 1 in 10 attempts, if he curses me. They dont even provide many opportunities for learning :(. So I have to look them up immediatelly every time, and since they can teleport, I just have to very conservative and meathook SSG or ballista them the same way I do normal ones, but cant afford to get hit to be able to continue the fight.
    Many of these things are thanks to the Doom RUclipsrs like you. So thanks :D. And I think Im still improving. Right now, though, I have to muster will power to go again through TAG2, after my save got corrupted in about 2/3 of Reclaimed Earth (the Blood Maykr fight after the possessed Pinky). This time, with cloud saves stored in cloud storage with versioning. Never again getting scammed like this.

    I'm somewhere between intermediate and advanced. I just really struggle to stay focused and not panic in bad situations as I'm practicing on Nightmare. I can do quickswitching at a rudimentary level and feel like I manage my resources fine, but I get tunnelvision when the going gets tough and can't always dig myself out. I've begun using the meathook to move around in cool ways and set up more huge resource payouts, but it feels like a victory when I do rather than a given. I know I just need more practice in Nightmare so I can more consistently style on the uber-aggressive enemies with equipment, falters, and combos. It's good to feel the improvement when certain encounters become instinct and I can achieve a kind of demon-slaying zen on a good day.

    Very nice video man. Personally I think I am something between intermediate and advanced level, sometimes I do very well, sometimes I do crap 😂😂. For example: just finished taras nabad on my first nightmare playthrough on my ps4. I died like 8,9 times on the first secret encounter( doom hunter, pain elemental and cacodemon) and then I passed the arena where Hugo died a lot without using bfg and only died once. Also I passed the final arena after you get the crucible first try without using the crucible, but I used bfg 😂😂. Did you saw the post/leak that Hugo said there will be a secret if you don't use the crucible on the master level, when it gets released? I wonder what they will put this time...
