I see why those 130 grain hollow points were struggling, they would have exploded on that big boar's fighting pads! I reckon 130 grain soft points would be the go Stu.
@@jacobberisford7014 Yes mate so has Steve and they are too heavy and for some reason lack the knockdown power of the lighter projectiles. I suppose the sweet spot between velocity and bullet weight is the go and for us it seems to be the 150gners.
I got back from central NSW about 2 weeks ago and the place was green as hell with water everywhere but not 1 pig sign to be seen. At least you are seeing something!
My 30/06 is an M77 MKII mate. Your 223 is fine for all pigs just remember to aim for the head or straight behind the front leg as sometimes 223's will deflect off mud that has dried and becomes crusted cement on their shoulders. 308, 30/30 etc will punch through but more times than not the 223 bullet is too small and deflects. One of my clips 'Stalking pigs out west' shows my Nephew trying to finish a boar close in and only when he shoots it in the head did it go down. It is right at the end of the clip.
I do like being out in the bush blending into the surrounding bush and wild life mate. Bloody hell I sound like David Atten...Att that silver haired nature bloke!
Well , about 3 or 5 years ago the population of wild pigs and wild boar(javali) increased a lot. Mainly here in the midle west and south. The hunt of these animals has been authorized.
I wish we could all pitch in and buy you some night vision gear. Problem is, those thermal nightscopes cost as much as a car! Thin pickings out there for daytime shooting, it appears. I guess that shows your combined efforts are having an effect on the pig population. Are there any other areas around that can use you and your mates special talents? Thanks again for the quality entertainment, Stu! Here's to you, mate!
Thanks for the feedback mate, yes the thermal stuff is expensive. Steve and Pood my hunting buddies have bought night vision stuff but I prefer the Olight mate.
Hey stu how do you get the tusks out with thr hatchet? Just hack into the face or is their a way to do it? Maybe a video? Cheers fella love the 3006 looks like a ruger m77
There is a way to do it mate I should do a video. See if i can explain it: Roll boar onto back and using a knife cut the lip from the bottom of the chin in two flaps opening up both sides of the jaw right back to where the jaw turns right angle past the cheek. Using the hachet cut the right angled part of the jaw high enough up not to damage the tusks. Once the jaw has been broken on both sides us the knife to cut around the inside whilst holding the tusks and pulling away leaving the toungue and head behind. Then you have to boil the jaw for a couple of hours to loosen up the tusks for extraction.
Hi mate, I use a few different loads for the shotty: SSGs which is 18 pellets; also AAA Alphamax game loads which is like BB's and Winchester Defender ammo which is a solid with 3 x ball bearings mate.
We went hunting last week with a 12/70 shotgun and did a few running shots, but the deers just keep running like 50meters into the bushs. we use a 9pellet ammo cause is the only one we can get in the shop. Thanks for answering and thanks for your videos mate!
Yes mate the 9 pellet shells we use are called SG Buckshot. The trouble with 9 pellets is there is too big a gap between pellets even when the deer is 30 meters away. However, if that is all you can get then I recommend that you try and close the gap to the deer to approx 20 meters.
if you mount a night vision for night hunting you take them all and without running. there are cheap ones that go up in the evening and get up in the morning, do you know the Pard 007?
Yes mate Steve and Pood both have night vision scopes and they do ok. I prefer giving em a sporting chance so they see where I am and try to escape. Still bloody exciting at night.
Hey Mate when your hunting what quad do u use? I just turned 18 and applied for my gun license and I have a property 32 hr drive away to hunt on. Quad hunting looks really effective.

Yes at times we are presented with multiple pigs but even then a fast working lever action and even bolt action can account for a lot of one shot one kills on a mob of pigs. Yes more would get away but I feel that a semi auto makes one shoot more and aim less, just my observation.
