North Philadelphia, nicknamed North Philly, is a section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is immediately north of Center City. Though the full extent of the region is somewhat vague, "North Philadelphia" is regarded as everything north of either Vine Street or Spring Garden Street, between Northwest Philadelphia and Northeast Philadelphia. The part about not stopping at lights on a bicycle, I get that. If there's no car in the intersection, what's the point? But I don't agree about hand signals. I was a bicycle messenger once, in Center City Philadelphia no less (American Eagle Courier and briefly with Kangaroo Couriers). I rode a few blocks below south, as far north as Girard and river to river. I ALWAYS signaled my intentions. It's more than just a courtesy. Signaling gives car drivers time to process and plan. They are generally moving faster than a bike and need more time to alter trajectory. Take it from me, if you're on a bike, don't ever argue with a motored vehicle. You'll go down every time and it isn't always just scrapes. Be safe.
