      Ohhhh it's bloody tough lads. Especially when you factor in that you've got a bloke practically in armour with a bat trying to stop you from doing so. Catches and lbws are always a more likely form of dismissal. That's why it's so good when someone does get clean bowled. And if the stumps go flying out of the ground, then it's an a bonus.

    • @L1ama
      @L1ama Год назад +6

      You can sort of do something close to tagging where someone standing next to the wickets catches the ball and then hits the wickets. What's really funny is that it's not hitting the wickets themselves that makes an out, it's knocking the bails (the little horizontal bits on top) off, so there's very rare cases where the ball grazes or even goes right between two wickets but the bails stay on and it's not out.

    • @joelambert7128
      @joelambert7128 Год назад +3

      It is hard, but no more so than throwing a strike. The ball is too big to fit between the stumps if the wicket is set up accurately.

    Cricket scoring is something you'd love Jimmy. For example, the reason it's called a dot ball is because the people who keep the score in Cricket are called the Scorers and they have what looks like an excel spreadsheet but it's a bound book that's hand written. It's laid out in a very specific way where you note down the activity for every ball. Wicket is denoted by a W, and wide is WD. And if nothing happens, a dot - hence dot ball.

    Quick comparison for non-cricket people:
    Force out: run out (breaking the wicket before the runner is "safe")
    Catcher: wicket keeper
    Pitcher: bowler
    Batter: batsman in men's cricket
    Base runner: non-striking batsman (or non-striker)
    Infield: the "square" including the pitch where the ball is bowled and it's surrounds
    Base: either end of the "pitch" - to be "safe" you or your bat need to be touching the ground behind the painted "crease" line at either end
    Ground rule double (bounces out of play): 4 runs
    Home run: 6 runs
    Fly out: caught (out)
    Bunt: "quick single"
    Ball: wide (if the pitch/bowl is outside where the batter can realistically reach it) or no ball (if the pitcher/bowler oversteps the rubber/crease, pitches/bowls too high or the ball bounces more than twice)
    Strike: dot ball (swing and miss) or bowled out (if it breaks the stumps)
    Foul tip: no such thing as 360° is fair territory, but you can still be caught out by any fielder
    Note that you can't have double plays as play stops if there is an out or the ball touches or lands beyond the rope.
    An over is 6 balls and is like a baseball inning except that it ends after 6 legal deliveries and that a bowler can't bowl back-to-back overs (they are also generally limited to a maximum number of overs bowled).
    An innings (yes, with an s at the end) is all of a teams at-bats back-to-back. They do not switch after x outs unless a team loses all 10. Most cricket is 1 innings per team except for "traditional" test, first-class or multi-day cricket where each team has 2 innings to set the highest aggregate runs score.

HOWEVER, we all know RUclips doesn't care about that, and companies can third party claim or copyright strike videos if they want to, and then Jomboy can either challenge those strikes or say "whatever, we release 10 videos a week on this channel, if one goes missing then one goes missing". as a lifelong cricket fan who is a more recent convert to baseball, these breakdowns are just brilliant Jomboy! such a good way of explaining the rules to new viewers of the game! just like your baseball content which has helped me understand so many of the rules i didnt get fully just from watching the sport! you are a true teacher across borders! 🙂Thank you! ♥

    I personally love the cricket content. As a lifelong American and Yankees fan I’ve always wanted to better understand cricket and get into watching the games. Your explanations using baseball terminology have been a big help to me. I got heavily into Rugby a few years ago and now I love watching Rugby games. Hoping to get to that point with cricket. But I’ve had a much harder time understanding all the rules of cricket than I did picking up the rules of Rugby. So your cricket explanations and content have really helped.

      Which type of rugby, out of interest? Union or league? Just cos I wonder if league being slightly more similar to American football would mean it'd be more popular with Americans, as well as it being generally faster paced. But then union is generally seen as the bigger of the two rugbies

    Huge props to Jomboy for covering this - most mainstream cricket publications don't mention any teams out of the top few. Cricket has a real problem with trying to spread the sport to new countries and it's good to see some coverage

    Cricket's version of a two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth. There's the same amount of drama and excitement as in American sports. Sport is sport. It's a shame cricket, and for that matter the Australian Football League(footy), don't get the love or exposure here in the states. Both great games to watch. Footy playoffs next week! Can't wait!

    If I’m right. If they lost their last wicket it wouldn’t have been them losing as the scores were tied. Depending on the format, and being a qualifier game this might have happened, a tie would result in a “super over”, think of it as extra innings or overtime, but you only get it once. It’s one over for both teams

    • @sfan2767
      @sfan2767 Год назад +4

      Yeah that was my assumption too. If you only need one to win, that means you're tied.
      Still not as good as winning in regulation when you have 3 balls and 2 outs to get one run.

      Correct. Don't know the rules of this tournament, but amazed Jomboy picked it up.

    • @patrickvolk7031
      @patrickvolk7031 Год назад +2

      A super over is both teams get one over to score as many runs as possible, that's used when both teams are playing more or less in T20. If this was pool play, net run rate is used to break ties (maybe for 20 overs, like ERA would be, but they also have to account for weather-shortened games. At least they were in the desert, so D/L didn't come into play)

    • @skull277
      @skull277 Год назад +1

      @@patrickvolk7031 don’t forget that D/L is now called DLS. But yeah pool play uses different things. I remember when T20 started and every tie had a super over, then they just decided when it was a pool stage match they would just have Ties. I believe they had a bowl off at one stage

    • @peterstayte4113

    Just quickly though, with Kuwait needing one run to win, that means that the scores are tied. You incorrectly called that UAE would have won if Kuwait failed to get that run.
    In Twenty20 cricket, tied games go to a tie breaker called a "Super Over" where each team face one over to separate the teams.
