I spent almost two weeks in Nice last summer as a solo traveler and had a wonderful visit! The people were friendly and I felt safe (minus one time I was being followed by a man in a crowd). Just pay attention and you will be fine. I took the train to many surrounding towns and got to check out a lot of the other beaches in the area. I did go to the pebble beach in Nice once, and I had a padded beach mat so it was not too uncomfortable, though I do recommend water shoes. :) People always talk about how Nice is expensive and it certainly can be-especially if you go out to fancy restaurants every day-but I actually found it to be not too bad. I stayed in an Airbnb and cooked some of my meals there or prepared them and brought them to the beach for a picnic. I was planning to take a vacation here in the US this summer, but it actually turned out to be less expensive for me to go back to Nice, so I’ll be enjoying another visit there! For fellow Americans, don’t let European locations scare you off-a lot of times traveling in Europe can be the same price or less as staying in the states. Happy travels!
Nice is just the best city in the World. Sweet weather, warm sea, beautiful landscapes, mountains all around and ski at 1 hour by car, lovely mix of italian, french, english and even russian architecture, city center is full of life, restaurants, shops, but you also have beautiful and peaceful houses and appartments all around on the hills, a lot of parks for kids and to relax or just do sport, and often with an amazing view on the beach/sea. Just the perfect city, i'll move to Nice for living in the month, and it might be for ever.
@@0MissVictoria Hi, yes i'm living in Nice for almost 1 year and it's as expected, the perfect place for me, i also love moving out of the city, so many beautiful medieval villages at few minutes away from the center, beautiful mountain and hill landscapes all around to see, i feel i'm always in vacation during my free time, sometimes swimming, sometimes hiking or riding a bike along seaside, chilling in old town, enjoying a lunch in the thousands of restaurants of the region... only one regret, loosing many years of my life in other cities. Oh and i'm buying my first appartment this month (view on the sea and hills, pool in the residence... )
One of the greatest parts of the world. The taxi driver thing is spot on we told him he could take half of what he was trying to charge us and take a hike 😎
Nice and the whole riviera region is one of the nicest areas in Europe. There are just so many options around: beach, culture, great hiking places and even ski resorts closeby + fast access to other neighbouring countries (1h flight to Barcelona and Italy just a 50 min train ride away) and the landscape is absolutely stunning. I love all the little villages and towns between Nice and Ventimiglia ( Villefranche sur mer, Eze village, Eze sur mer, Menton...and of course Ventimiglia too!). Monaco is definitely worth a visit too but maybe too bling bling and packed for my taste. It just looks way too much like a luxury commercial instead of an approachable place but I guess that's what makes it appealing to many. The almost unrealness of it. I actually like the rocky beaches in Nice. You don't get sand everywhere after a day on the beach and with the watershoes on it's easy to walk on the beach and go swimming.
My wife had an annual business trip that use to take her to a convention in Nice and every trip she used the chance to stock up on “Huile d’Oliva” or olive oil. The shop was Olio Donato and the family hand pressed their own olive oils flavoring it with “Herbs de Provence” and also have a little small minced truffles in the oil from Piedmont Italy. OMG. We would cook with that oil and no matter what we cook it tasted soooo good. So because of covid we have had our Olio Donato but we tell everyone we know who are going to Nice to find that shop and get that olive oil. Yum!!! We would get the maximum amount we could take home from customs. Some smuggle drugs internationally my wife and I smuggle truffle infused extra virgin olive oil herbes Provence.
Just came back from Nice. First time visiting. Beautiful place. I found most people to be friendly, lovely scenery, the food was great and I found a lot to do. My only issue was that the trains took forever to come and there are so many stairs everywhere (lazy American here I guess). I had a wonderful time. I would love to go back.
Personally I think Nice is best used as a base. Great value can be had in renting an apartment instead of a hotel. To give an idea, I paid £750 for a week in July for a two bedroom apartment instead of £2100 for a hotel. And visit Villefranche - sur- mer for the beach, so much nicer than Nice!

They will pick your pocket in no time. They often use cute babies and children as a distraction. Use the Trams and buses which are brilliant.
Absolutely agree, EXCEPT depending when this was filmed, the train station is no longer the seedy place spoken of. Plus, folks should also check out all the local Niçois cuisine, not just the seafood of course. :-) There is a rich history here as it was only recently (in European terms) annexed to France in the 1860's. You will see and taste and even hear about that while here if you talk to the locals. Just start by asking what goes into a Salade Niçoise and let the debate, hand flying, and myriad of recipes begin! LOL There's definitely an "Italian feel" to the city and the Alpes-Maritimes department in general, for lack of a better term. On a side note, Nice has it's own language in the Occitan family proudly displayed on the street signs in the Old Town. Unfortunately, it's spoken by fewer and fewer each generation.

Socca is absolutely delicious and something I miss badly from there. As well as the gelati in Vieux Nice, not even in Italy have I come across such good quality ice cream.
I liked two things about Nice. 1. Finally being off the ferry (coming from Líle Rousse, Corse) and 2. Finally being out of Nice, I spent some time on the beach at Beaulieu-sur-Mer and then travelled through Cote d´Azure and Provence. The traffic was so bad I didn´t get to see the city at all.

@@mikehess4494 I understand that people have different conceptions. But the « stay warm, stay fed » is still not my definition of travelling 😉 and what I mean about adventure, It’s more about adventuring yourself outside your comfort zone. Strolling around and trying street food in Osaka, visiting all the museums of Paris, going trekking in the Atlas in Morocco , drinking beers with strangers in Madrid, etc. That’s what I love about travel. With all the problems that come with it ! It’s part of the fun.
Other nearby places to visit include St. Paul de Vence (old hilltop fort town that is now an artist's enclave). Villefranche - specifically the estate of Bernice Rothschild, the town of Mentone, Juan les Pines and Antibes too. Also, don't go when the Cannes Film Festival and the Gran Prix are going on as there will be fewer people and the hotel rates will be less gouge-y. April and early May for example, while the summer months are traditional vacation times and so don't go at that time.

AWESOME VLOG! Thanks for tips! QUESTIONS for my trip in a couple weeks: Any good Nice things to with kids? I have 8 and 10 year old girls -- going the end of June!! Also need a place to get chicken fingers for a very picky girl with nut allergies. THANKS!!
Nice is more than nice. Yeah, it’s crammed with trippers tripping over other trippers; a lot of the non-Vieille Ville architecture isn’t floating anyone’s boat; heck, even the famed Promenade des Anglais can seem a drag of a main drag if you’re not in the mood. But in toto, and laying aside your preconceived notions, you’ll be charmed by a gorgeous Italianate Old Town; wooed by the winning weather; seduced by the seemingly preternaturally cerulean sea; hell, even the locals seem ok, for a tourist town. Just don’t mention the beach.
I went on november last year and wow it was a perfect time ! 20 degrees outside, patio all opened, very small crowd. It's been a year now and there's not a single day where I don't think of this amazing trip. I totally recommand to go off season. Anothe thing : Expansive ?! I totally disagree ! You eat a 3-4 course meal for two, a bottle of wine included. Around 75 euros or so ! Would cost around the double here in Montreal, Canada, plus you need to tip at least 15%. We also rent a sweat studio in the prime spot on a pedestrian street I can't remember the name. 110 euros per day, that's a steal !! But that was in november, I guess prices are being cranked up in the summer. Amazing trip
I told my wife if im ever rich im going to build my own racetrack. Second im going to see the French Riviera and go to an F1 race at Monaco. Very good info. And good eye on your stuff! 😁
Hey, this video was very "Nice", I crack myself up lol lol. My wife and I watched this video together and we are actually going to put the city if Nice in our "must-see" column. Thanks, for sharing :).
@@deniaridley, your opinion is valid, all of us have different experiences and it could be just the particular individuals in Nice that I ran into, so my generalized statement of “everybody” could be inaccurate. But this is just based on my travel experience. From the six continents that I have visited, including other countries in Europe, I didn’t find the French or those in Sounthern France particularly “nice” when compared to Latin countries in South America or some very hospitable Asian countries I visited.
I worked there in a Summer a long time ago. At that time, I could stay in a really cheap hotel, and it wasn't that expensive. Like everything, maybe that is gone. I remember there were all sorts of places for a nice breakfast outdoors, and I did the wine-fish dinner thing in the Old Town section. I remember there were some interesting ruins there (Greek, I think). There was a lavish French spectacle show at the Hotel Negresco. I couldn't afford the really good restaurants, and my French was so so; but I was young and could live alone. It wasn't exactly roughing it. I did go swimming, so you could rent a spot on the beach at sort of a beach club. There were lots of steak-frites places. The weather was lovely. There was some sort of big parade in the Summer, with floats.. almost like a Mardi Gras. I don't remember what the occasion was. I had a good time. And, yes, the local food is good, too. I must say too that the French people I met were mostly very pleasant. I wish I had been a little braver trying to speak French. I could read everything, and mostly understand people, if they spoke slowly enough; but I was embarrassed about my grammar, even though I had a fair amount of French in high school and college in the States.
Where are the ruins you are talking about? If they were on the hill of Cimiez a bit far from the city center, and there were a small colliseum, a park and museums, then they are roman ruins of the ancient city of Cemenelum. I don't think there are any well preserved greek ruins in Nice although the Greek did found the city (where the castle hill is today).
Train station areas generally are often like that there used to be an Ibis hotel around the corner it's probably still there though may not be open right now after the lockdowns
@@shondadiakite4131 this was back in 2019 October so can’t really speak to 2022.. but it was a couple days of heavy rain and some thunderstorms in the evening, but the rest of the time was beautiful
First half of October the temperature is between 20-25 degrees, and you can still swim in the sea. Second half can be a bit rainy, in Nice there is a rain season between half of October and early December. It's sunnier in January than in November.
Tell me about hotel accommodations and if they have elevators for older/handicapped visitors. Prices would be nice too! Thanks...as always l love your videos!
I would suggest not staying in the Old Town as the buildings in general have no elevators. Otherwise, always check with the hotel and/or AirBnB before booking. (The prices are seasonal, so it costs more in the summer.)

When I was there some people weren't exactly happy with my less than perfect French. Do not like Air Canada Rouge from Nice Airport back to the USA via Toronto. That was just awful.
Oh that flight sucked. I did miami to Istanbul back to Barcelona. Best airlines ever turkish airlines but it was a solid 26 hours of travel. I learned my lesson. Look for deals early and for me I can go in Sept after the summer which makes flying and many countries much cheaper. I remember a room in xabia Spain that was 50 euro in Sept but 150 in July. I can now usually find flights from Miami/fort Lauderdale to Barcelona direct for about 500. When I looked from the mid west it was like 8-9 hundred until I looked at separate flights to NY then Barcelona. Then it was back to about 500. London, paris and Barcelona are usually about the same. Key is to get anywhere in europe for as cheap and direct flight as you can. Spend a day or 2 in that city even if its not your top ten. Then fly on to where you want to via one of the many discount airlines. Many flights with just a backpack are $50 and under. Sometimes I take my big bag but sometimes I leave it in Barcelona when I fly to places like Malta that I was at for 3 nights and needed 3 pairs of shorts, 1 long pants, 4 shirts and socks, bathroom stuff. Then again other cold places like the Austrian alps I needed my big bag for warmer clothes. Norwegian, American (not my 2 fav but not horrible) and Portugal airline tap air are a good place to start. Weird though some times tap air is less expensive to fly to Lisbon then lets say madrid then it is to stay at Lisbon.
Just got back from Nice worst part was all the people smoking. It was impossible to sit outside and eat and not get choked by cigarettes and vapors disgusting

Vintage Mark! Thanks for the explorations.
We enjoyed our time there but we had a bit of issue with one of the store clerks. We just got to Europe and wanted to get Sim cards for our phones, the clerk told us that they didn't carry them. Hotel we were staying at directed us to the same store the next morning and a different clerk sold some to us.
Ah one of the few places I've actually been to!
Very good advice. 🎉
great video Mark! which month did you visit? we’re thinking of going in early January and hoping it won’t be a dead town!
I was born in Nice France in 1984, I immigrated to S Korea when I was 5. I hardly remember anything. My home town nice France.
Looks worth an off season visit! Was Liam sleeping while you held him like that? Adorable!
Looking good here Mark. Love the outfit!
thank you
Thank you for this.

You didn't get the Riviera Pass which cover museums and double decker rides
The local bus is great for getting around Nice, especially if u have the app to check times and routes
Do you know a good app for the bus in Nice? I'll be going there in the summer and want to be prepared

Menton and Corsica are worth a visiti!
I went to Nice in August and the weather was WAY more humid than I imagined. Very muggy.
Good job on your video!!! Can’t wait to visit there too!👌👌👌👌
Other nearby places to visit include St.
Unfortunately, the cannes film festival is the only time I can go. Is the weather warm enough for swimming?
@@zzz-cb3xe Maybe? Not sure to be honest. But the Med is shallow and warms up quickly over spring and summer.
This video made me understand why I never see photos from the beaches in Nice 😂

" it´s warm.." and they´re all dressed like we are in northern sweden in winter. Somehow I don´t associate thick down-jackets and scarves to being warm outside.

Hello, I just joined and really enjoy watching your videos! What is your favorite coastal town in France (long-term visit)?
We came across a beautiful Russian Orthodox cathedral in Nice, didn’t realize there was a small pocket of a Russian community
I know which one you are talking about! Was totally a surprise for me too^^
There is also a small serbian orthodox church, which almost got sold as a private property. Few mighty people like Novak Djokovic himself helped to preserve it.
I know this is from a while ago, I think anyone can visit or stay in Nice, even on a budget. And/ Or get the train for a day trip..
Would be interesting to see how can you visit it on a budget! 😅 btw if you’re looking for something to watch, I have a channel with content from London and other cities 🤗

Merci!!!❤
I told my wife if im ever rich im going to build my own racetrack. Second im going to see the French Riviera and go to an F1 race at Monaco. Very good info. And good eye on your stuff! 😁

Hey, this video was very "Nice", I crack myself up lol lol. My wife and I watched this video together and we are actually going to put the city if Nice in our "must-see" column. Thanks, for sharing :).
People aren’t Nice in Nice, France. I paid $10 for a can of Coke in St Tropez. But like you said, seafood is great. Weather is great.
First of all, St. Tropez is far from Nice. Secondly, the people ARE nice here.
Loved Nice!
Looking chic wolter!
Carnaval de Nice is soooo much fun! Wow! Do they know how to put on a parade!! :)
When are you doing a video on Marseille, mark?

It’s not really humid in the summer there.
Hi im going this October i went to Bari Italy last year you mentioned storms were they really bad storms??

Thank you for your response
hows the weather in october?
First half of October the temperature is between 20-25 degrees, and you can still swim in the sea. Second half can be a bit rainy, in Nice there is a rain season between half of October and early December. It's sunnier in January than in November.
Stone beaches are much better then sand ones.
Hello wow super 👍
Tell me about hotel accommodations and if they have elevators for older/handicapped visitors. Prices would be nice too! Thanks...as always l love your videos!
I would suggest not staying in the Old Town as the buildings in general have no elevators. Otherwise, always check with the hotel and/or AirBnB before booking. (The prices are seasonal, so it costs more in the summer.)
Beach vocation??
I think seeking about France for its meaning is doing more than enough considering nothing in the media portrayed there dynasty

nice is a nice city
Ill be visiting Nice in 2 months. And on every second website I read that its not safe place, many burlgars, thieves, even murderers are out there. In this video, he says complete opposite. Should I be worried or not? Its not an offensive comment, just dont know what to think about such a beatiful city. Thank you
The moment you enter Europe, you're alreday dead. Haha. Just kidding, relax.
@@mmmppp555 So.. Is it safe by now or not?
Every city has those things. Be aware of your surroundings, trust your instincts and look up areas to avoid in advance. I know people who have went to Nice alone and were perfectly safe the entire time. Relax and enjoy. :)
@@thatcanadiangamer2305 One does have to be careful in Nice..it's on a par with Marseille for crime. Personally speaking, I detest the place and only go there when necessary. Don't go to the back streets at night, safer to stick around the Promenade des Anglais area.
Train stations and bus stations in Europe are always seedy and sketchy, best to spend the least time possible in them.
