    I visited Nice, France recently, it’s breathtaking! The architecture, the little towns are absolutely stunning. The beaches are plentiful, blue & clean. The weather was very hot & sunny. There are buses, trams & trains , which make it comfortable to travel in the heat ! I loved my holiday in Nice 😍

      PS: there’s a tiny BUT, or 2 actually: the weather in May is not as stable as it becomes over the summer. It should be just perfect, not too hot, not too cold, but it can also rain occasionally and be cloudy for a few days. And 2: since there’s the film festival in Cannes and the formula 1 race in Monaco, ticket prices for the plane and hotel prices might go up in those places. It’s wise to book as early as possible. 😇

    Very nice videos - thank you. I will be visiting in two weeks and have a question: I am allergic to tobacco smoke - is smoking still prevalent, as it was when I last visited France 40 years ago? Are restaurants in France non-smoking as they are throughout the United States? A selfish person lighting up a cigarette at the table next to me would ruin my meal.
    If smoking is allowed in sections of restaurants, would I ask “Une table dans une section pas de fumer, s’il vous plait. Je suis allergique au fume du tabac.”? Or ask something else? And please do not hesitate to correct my French, which I haven’t studied since 1987. Thank you.

    • @rivierago
      @rivierago  Год назад +1

      Hi, smoking has been banned in French restaurants and public buildings for many years now, so you’ll be a lot less bothered. People will be smoking on the terraces outside of the restaurants, though, which is where most people sit in the summer. There is less smoking going on than 40 years ago, but of course, there still is…
      As for your French, it’s really good, they will understand! We’d probably say « …dans un espace non-fumeur… » (but our French is far from perfect, too 😉)

    • @WisGuy4
      @WisGuy4 Год назад +1

      Excellent - thank you for the response!
      Do you know if the situation is the same in Italian restaurants? We are visiting the Cinque Terre for a few days after the French Riviera.
      One last question: do you have any advice for a good vegetarian dining experience in Nice and Menton? My teenage daughter is a vegetarian, and I recall one of your videos recommending to read the entire menu to find the one or two vegetarian dishes the restaurant may offer. Are there any specific restaurants in Nice or Menton that you would recommend? Thank you!

    • @rivierago
      @rivierago  Год назад

      @@WisGuy4 hi again, yes, the same no -smoking rules apply in Italy! We haven’t been to a proper vegetarian place in Nice or Menton, not sure there is one - but yes, there should be at least some sort of salad without meat (salade nicoise: ask to have it served without the tuna and anchovies) on the menu, maybe also a vegetable wok or something like that. (Not a whole lot, unfortunately). And if there’s nothing tempting on the menu, ask the waiter nicely 😉. They might agree to put something together specifically for your daughter. Being a vegetarian myself, I must say options could be better… but she won’t starve (this is Aila replying).
      PS: I think, vegans are really lost around here - happy to read comments from vegans about their experience on the French Riviera!

      Hi Sammy, thanks a lot for your nice words! Yes, there are buses and trains, the train goes mostly along the coast, so it easily links Cannes, Antibes, Nice and Monaco (continuing to Ventimiglia in Italy). Twice an hour, I think. And there are lots of buses that take you almost everywhere. Check out this app for mobile phone: Moovit (region set to “Nice Côte d’Azur). It tells you exactly how you get from A to B 😊

      @Riviera Go! @Riviera Go! Thank you for your helpful tip about the Moovit app! Your videos are valuable for trip planning :). Would love to see content on lavender fields in Provence. If we have only 6-8 hours in Marseille, would you recommend a day trip to Valensole to see the lavender fields in late June? I would also like to see the Callenques and Aix en Provence (too much to see in my bucket list, haha). Thanks again! Merci ;)

      @rivierago  Год назад +1

      @@sammychem5920 we think the Calanques are the most spectacular among the places you mention. Lavender fields are great, too, no doubt, but end of June might be early… (though we haven’t been there a lot since a it’s a bit of a drive from the Côte d’Azur/Riviera, so please Check back). Marseille is worth at least 4 hours, you need to climb on the rooftop of Mucem museum. And maybe take the little train that takes you up to the church overlooking the port area and gives you a quick overview of the city. Aix is beautiful. Hang out in cafés, stroll through the old town, see the many fountains, some gardens. Really, whatever you decide you can’t go wrong. 😅

    'NICE' (Bella Nizza!) , MONACO, MONTE CARLO and CORSICA should have remained with Italy... They will always retain their original ITALIAN ambience...most all the names of cities and towns in Corsica are still in Italian. Doesn't matter if they are in France. Napoleon , Garibaldi, the Grimaldi's, The Medici family of Florence (birthplace of the Renaissance) were Italian. They are cousins no matter what...just the language is different...the French language rose from the ashes of the Roman empire. JOHN CABOT another Italian explorer (real name: JOHN CABOTO) secured much of what is now Eastern Canada for the British. FRANCE has always benefited from having countries like Italy, Spain, Germany as neighbors. OF COURSE WE LOVE NICE...ITS SO ITALIAN!
