I live in Nice, and I'm glad you encourage people to come in the off peak season. The trains cannot accomodate the work commuters and the tourists during the summer months, especially when tourists take the trains during rush hours. Many people are left on the platform, and commuters working in Monaco are becoming increasingly tired of the struggle to even make it on the train to get to work.
Also beware of pickpockets on the tram and the trains. They take advantage of the moment you board to pick your pockets, so be aware. I've tried to warn people but I've seen so many people lose their valuables 😓

Every time I see videos like this, I always wonder why no one ever mentions bus #600/601. It's only €2.50 and it goes from Nice all the way to Menton along the coastal road and is an absolutely beautiful ride, with stops in pretty much every single city along the coast, including Eze, Villefranche, Cap d'Ail, and Monaco. It takes about 2 hours end to end, but it's more appealing than the train, which often goes through mountains and has no views. It's a good way to see a lot of the little towns along the Cote d'Azur without renting a car. Also, completely agree about Menton -- I absolutely hated it and would have left about 2 days in had I not rented a nonrefundable apartment for the month. Anyway, great video! Thank you for sharing.

      Notes from a local:
It takes 2x the time of the train and has a lot of turns so be prepared
It doesnt pass through Eze (only accessible with bus 82 that is packed) but rather the beach of Eze where then don’t even think on climbing to the village during summer its a whole trekking path, solution is to wait for another bus to take you there

If you’re looking for specialty coffee, Cafés Indien isn't it. You want to head to La Claque, which currently has the best coffee in Nice. Another great option is Brume, which has a bit more room and serves lovely food. Both are in Old Town and have WiFi. Another place for proper coffee, but a bit further north, is Café Fino (also has WiFi). As for where to stay, don’t go anywhere but the Port or the area around Place Garibaldi/Place du Pin. For tourists, these are the best neighborhoods in Nice and nothing else should be considered. The tram will take you directly there from the airport (they are respectively the last two stops).

We visited in the fall and I echo some of your recommendations accept Menton. Next to EZE it was a highlight. We day hiked up the hill into Italy, walked right across the border, had brunch including Lemonchellos and walked down an amazing path/steps down to the sea with the most amazing views and then walked back to Menton along the sea. Amazing, took about 3 hours an absolutely stunning walk.

I can confirm that it’s a great video and advices because I visit French Riviera quite often. Speaking about Eze, I would say that there is even better place of the same vibe to visit. It is Saint Paul de Vence. It is bigger. And if you have a car you can visit a whole bunch of brautiful medieval little towns up the hills. And definitely, take all possible seaside walks, including Cap Ferrat and Antibes paths.

For excellent coffee in Nice, I would check out La Claque in the Old Town, and Clay in the Place du Pin area and Cafe Fino in the Carabacel neighbourhood. In my opinion the best neighbourhood to stay in is Port Lympia. The tram from the airport drops you off right in the Port. It's also a stones throw from the Old City and every other place worth visiting.

Antibes is my hometown and I spend a lot of my time off in Nice, and I agree with most of your comments. I am not a big fan of Cannes (although the old part, "le Suquet" is very nice) or Monaco either. I would also recommend the "sentier des contrebandiers" which is the coastal path around Cap d'Antibes. You need good walking shoes and a few hours but the view is wonderful. I confirm, and love, that we can walk or take a train, a tram or a bus to almost anywhere in the area. And I did not count but don't worry about your pronunciation, this is quite cute actually. 😊

The cove provided great swimming (o.k. technically floating on a raft-lounger) . And the views of the town were stunning! We never made over to Ventimiglia, but Menton had a definite Italian flair with some great restaurants and a lot of Italian speakers all around us. It sure felt like Italy 😊

February is a lottery. The world famous carnival is that month so I remember the weather in February though that. Sometimes it's so hot you are playing tennis in your shorts in the sunshine, but I remember one where it was so windy that the carnival streamers ended up half way to the ski resorts. I got married that month in Nice and it was amazing sunshine every day but it's very unpredictable so you pays your money and you takes your choice.

A couple of questions, as we plan to go with our children this summer in August.
-in small cities and villages are people speaking English, French and Italian?
-would you be able to share the link for the local buses?
-can we walk to the city of Antibes or is it better to take the bus?
-any parks or indoor/outdoor playgrounds and entertaining activities you can recommend for families with children?
-is there any sealife aquarium for our children to enjoy?
-do they do short boat trips around the coast nearby cities and villages?
-how far is the airport from the city centre?
-as you mentioned that you visited Nice during February, how is the weather, is the water warm for the children to swim? what are the temperatures in February? We might consider going there next month because my daughter and I, we celebrate our birthdays in February.
Again, thank you kindly for your time and help. 🤗

What you missed in Menton, especially since you were there in February is the Fête Citron / The Lemon Festival. They are known for Menton lemons and their famed festival takes place about Feb 15 - March 2 every year. It is a wonderful place to see giant statues and scenes cover completely in lemons. They also have a parade with floats and fireworks (which requires tickets). The smell is so fragrant, and signals the coming of spring in the area. It is a very unique experience. It is also a good time to see the town as a whole at that time too. Just be aware that this can be rainy season in this region, so bring an umbrella or watch the weather forecast, as the entire event is outdoors.

In Cannes you can experience foreworks in the summer months, which are incredible. If you decode to go, you will have to arrive really early to reserve a spot on the beach, where you will hear the matching music.

And make sure you leave immediately after the fireworks end to book it to the train station. There’s only so many trains after that time of night before they’re done till morning and the other tourists get desperate (and pushy) too 😬😬 Otherwise be prepared to either hangout until 6am or take an Uber/Bolt back 😅

Italy and France...best markets in the world...love the border region of Italy and France...Napoleon was Italian and helped shape France as did the powerful Medici family of Florence...so many Italian influences in French culture over the centuries...when I visited Nice (used to named 'NIZZA'), many speak Italian and of course French and many I met had cousins who were Italian.

if anyone here is looking for nice walks, I would strongly recommend Saint-Jean--Cap-Ferrat for a walking daytrip!! you can take the bus form Place Massena to Port de Saint-Jean (?) and basically hike around the whole peninsula, which takes about 3 hours. i'd say most of the route is paved well, while some parts near the end are more like a rocky path. great views of the sea, some nature, a couple of houses and the rocky edges of the peninsula :)

The Eze he is recommending is Eze-le-Village (on the hill). Eze-Sur-Mer is at the bottom and where you can catch the train almost immediately across the street from the bottom of the hiking trail. (Sur-Mer means “on the sea”)

Your pronunciations are mostly ok, don't worry too much about it ☺️. Thank you for making this video, as someone who's been living on the Côte d'Azur for several decades (mostly in Cannes and a bit in Nice during my studies), you did a great job and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Good catch on Monaco and Cannes, not much to see there indeed (and yes I live in Cannes). However there's the old town in Menton, and a nice sea-side walk on the Cap Martin next to Menton which are worth your time. But yes, Eze is the jewel of the coast ☺️. Glad you enjoyed your stay ☺️.

as a French living in Nice, I can confirm that your review is accurate. Monaco is overrated it’s plenty of wealthiest people, but mostly everything is high end luxury, so it’s not interesting for most people. And Menton is mostly a place for retired people and therefore it’s quiet, even way too quiet, not much animated place or fancy old village like the other places you mentioned. Great review again 👏🏻
