- Hi, we are Bec, Sam, Isabella & Euan. After selling our house in the UK & travelling Europe in a motorhome for 10 months, we have bought a derelict stone cottage in Ireland. We are keen to try and live an off grid life, free from debt whilst bringing the farm back to its former glory. We are doing this on a very tight budget and plan on doing the work ourselves.

Adam is a gem. To be honest that is how people in this country collaborated and helped each other for hundreds of years. Its a very normal thing to do in Ireland, to help your neighbour.

Whilst you were drilling and breaking up the floor I was getting exhausted thinking about all that borrowing of the rubble to be done! What an absolutely fantastic gift to get Adam's digger, barrow and sheer goodwill. Wonderful help - and I hope he gets pay back for his generosity. Great progress though...

Isn't it wonderful when machines save your back? You are building a very sound and safe home, Sam. Solid concrete floor is very important. Love the new foster kitty, you all have such gentle souls. Visiting Ireland and Scotland are on my life's bucket list.

It’s a good job the wall was knocked by the digger as it came down way too easily! Much better that you can build it back where you want it, stronger and therefore safer and it’s not like you don’t have the stone available to face it with!

Always enjoy the continuing progress from Ireland. Here in San Jose, California, it's currently 12:40 a.m. and still over 70 F (21C) so it's a bit comforting to see clouds and folks in jackets. The kitten is adorable and seems to enjoy the view from Euan's shoulder. All your animals are wonderful and what a nice, generous friend you have in Adam.
It is not a typical summer, here. So we are still hopeful we will get some hot days yet, before the autumn arrives. 🎉

Taking down that unstable wall will make pouring the concreet slab so much easier and faster. All the rubble you dug out could be perhaps be used to make some kind of windbreak in the garden to help with those strong prevailing winds you get.
