Disagree Shea. Wrap dresses will ALWAYS be in style. Just like a French mani and classic gold hoop earrings. And. Would never wear the alternative you are showing. It looks cheap and like a teenager would wear it.
Tote bags are timeless and classic no matter what. Louis Vuitton never full is not out of style. See what other brands are making with their tote bags! They are putting their monogram version like Louis Vuitton always does. The same with the wrap dress: is timeless, classic, chic and never goes out of style!
Totally agree Wrap dress remains a classic style. Parisian women wear them from daytime casual look to evening with a dressier vibe. I do enjoy watching Shea's videos but this kind of video is clearly more of an infomercial with her affiliate links. I don't blame her for this, as this is her stream of income - YT and affiliate links. It is what it is... and we all wear what we like.

I said this in a past video, I’m in Colorado, skinnies and boots are never leaving my wardrobe! I absolutely love the wide leg jeans, but when snow is on the ground they don’t work! Beautiful sweaters, skinny jeans and fabulous boots are my thing! Not getting rid of my combat boots as well!!😊
Canadian here, totally agree, I have 5 different types of winter boots, 2 different types of combat boots, and a pair of Timberland work boots. Boots for dry, wet, cold, colder, coldest, light snow, heavy snow, sleet, slush, rain, you name it. I think about 12 pairs in total and I need them all. Sweaters and skinnies will never leave my closet!
That wrap dress is a classic baby. I’m a Gen X’er and I keep a good wrap dress in my closet, while wearing a deep side, diagonal, or middle part. Fashion is fun, and in the eye of the beholder. ❤
Elder millennial here. So basically most of this stuff was stylish when I was young, maybe jr high or high school. So just go back in time. I can do that! Except for the socks. Those high socks are old crazy grandpa to me and I just can’t unsee it! ❤
@@Cakez253 me too, I'm Gen X but the crew socks are so good with athleisure and for me an added benefit is I can wear my 7/8 leggings all year round with them.
I am very late Gen X but in all ways feel more like a millennial and this is absolutely no exception. I still feel like skinny jeans tucked into tall boots is the most flattering possible thing on my body and gonna keep wearing it fall and winter probably til I die! haha
Just a point of clarification: a “button-down” shirt is one that has the little buttons at the top of the shirt attaching to the collar. (Like a classic Oxford style). A “button up” shirt is simply one with buttons all the way up the front.
The wrap dress never goes out of style its ICONIC, made for women who are big chested with apple bodies and also pregnant. The one u showed as an option, not even close to the same or with the times
This video was so funny! To anyone older than a millennial, all the swaps looked way more outdated than what they were replacing. I liked corset dresses back in the day, as well as wrap dresses, but the latter has way more structure and is far more flattering on most figures, whereas the former can end up looking tacky. The socks and leggings! What was that about? That's never been a good look. Leg warmers with leggings, however, is another matter. I like straight jeans, but they're definitely an old style. Yet, some old shapes are classics - they're either practical or beautifully structured (cut), or both, so they are never out of style. I would include both the long and short cardigans in that category. The scarf coat, however, is just a bad idea. There's extra fabric that you can't remove when either you or the weather gets warmer, and you're stuck with it. Then, if you're caught out in the rain, the extra fabric gets wet and the coat takes longer to dry. I had one when younger; it was a mistake. Just wear a scarf and ignore people talking about trends over practicality.
There's no hope for you. "Uncool" is not part modern slang, first of all. The word you're looking for is cheugy. You are basically becoming like most boomers and Gen Xers.
I know when you made this video you were prepared for everyone’s opinions. I take your advice with a grain of salt but I am always entertained by your content. ❤
The dress you chose as an alternative to the wrap dress falls in a different category for me. I couldn’t wear that strap dress to work as it’s too revealing on top. The wrap dress is more appropriate for more occasions
The socks and swimwear are literally 80s revival. I'm completely not going back down that rabbit hole. Hell everything keeps reviving the 80s. Just need leg warmers and fluro gymwear with suspenders and we are set.
Omg. I just flashed back to college step aerobics class when you mentioned the Leo with suspenders. We all did it. It was the thing to do in the late 80s. Mine was black bottoms with suspenders and a black and white striped crop top. Lots of neon thong Leo’s over Capri leggings too.
The time you want to wear tall boots is winter. The time you want to wear no pants is summer. I absolutely hate outfits that look like they cnat figure out if the person wearing them is warm or cold. They always look try too hard.
Same here,I am so fed up with wearing boots every day in winter and cannot imagine wearing them when it’s hot. One of the best things about summer is that we can let our feet breathe - with no socks and light shoes.
I have definitely noticed tall boots around this summer, paired with short shorts or skirts. I’m happy to see tall boots again! I hope they stick around for fall and winter for when they actually make sense 🙏
A lot of these trends are also just impractical. Like if it's winter and there is snow or half melted sludge outside, I'm glad to have my pants safely tucked inside my boots rather than getting it wet and dirty.
Me watching this about to turn 27 is just mind-boggling. Yes, it is time to let go of the infinity scarf (mostly) But wrap dresses will always be a staple. I love that corsets and straight jeans are coming back into style. Let us all be lovely medieval maidens! This is also proof that classic corporate style is always a timeless winner.
I’ve always done tie around the shoulders in colder weather. To me, it has always been a sophistication style type of thing but it is hard to do in the summer time
I'm a Baby Boomer who tries to keep up with trends just enough to not look *really* dated. (I don't throw anything out. I just store it away until it comes around again.) I loved this video -- especially because I can now pull my short, fitted, cardigans out of storage. Does anyone remember twin sets, haha! Anyway, I can't pull off the socks, because I am short and they make my legs look super stumpy! Keep up the great work, Shea!
Hi Shea. I appreciate knowing what’s in and what’s out. I don’t feel like I have to follow your advice strictly, but I’m glad to have the info. It keeps me looking and feeling more youthful. I don’t understand why people react so negatively to a video like this. Keep up the good work and thank you.
1) Thank you for making actually affordable alternative suggestions. I've really been considering the little bodice dress for a while and I think you've convinced me to pull the trigger. Thanks for providing legitimate links. 2) Thank you for NOT judging! I just bought some slip-on sneakers literally this week because I'm a teacher and I'm on my feet all day. I don't dress to be stylish when I'm at work, I dress for comfort and survival, so thanks for acknowledging careers like that! I also look better with a middle-of-my-eye level side part, it's just how my hair falls naturally and if I force a middle part, I feel like a hippie or a disco-dancer, it's just not me. Thank you for acknowledging that not everything works for everyone and coming at this from more of a helpful suggestions angle rather than being judge-y . I really appreciate it! Great high energy without being overwhelming. Just the right length and amount of content (not too much or overwhelming). :)
Omg this is so needed for me. At 32, I’ve completely lost track of what’s cool. It’s funny because I could immediately know what was in or out when I was younger - it’s like it came naturally - but now I need videos like yours to literally tell me 😅
That's probably when you were in environments where people wore them, so you noticed what they were wearing around you. Now that you're no longer in that demographic, you need people to tell you what people in other demographics are wearing. But why try to look like what they're trying to make trendy in another demographic, unless it's for a special function? There's probably already micro trends with the people you hang with that can make you look stylish.
I feel that, I'm in my 40s but am around people my age who are always very casual (concert t-shirt + Converse level, more casual than me for sure) and the younger people I know (20s) are always in crop tops and bike shorts. They do wear longer, thicker socks and short Ugg boots, but I am definitely not wearing crop tops and bike shorts so I don't compare my style to theirs either.
Older people don’t care about what’s in style. If it fits you well and you carry it well, you’ll look amazing regardless if it’s considered “old fashioned”.
The iconic wrap dress was created by Diane von Furstenberg and has been a classic for 50 years - forever flattering classic style for all age groups and sizes
i love wrap dresses. i think they are a classic along with pants tucked into high boots. i also still love long cardigans. it’s not all i wear but i do like being able to mix it up.
One thing I’ve learned from videos like this; people get “married” to certain items and they ain’t giving them up whether it’s classic or not. And that’s just fine.
totally true! I embrace the shorter cardigans and crew socks, I happily gave up infinity scarves, slip on sneakers and the icky waterfall cardigans. But I'm gonna wear skinny jeans and tall boots forever. I honestly like neither dress style at the beginning, but if I did I would wear them either one.
The wrap dress is never out of style. They were wearing it through the 50’s and it came back again in the 80’s, and then in the 2000’s. The wrap dress is always beautiful
Whoa whoa whoa! Don't come at me for my slip on Vans! Mine are always going to be cool......they have skeletons on them. Lol 😂😂 In style or out of style..... they are my casual style. I love them with my fushia overalls. Wait is my Gen X coming out? Hahaha
I’m a millennial and I’m happily and fully re-embracing crew socks! I always hated no-show socks and ankle socks. also loving wearing baggier shirts and wider jeans 😍
This is hilarious. So many of the styles that are “in” right now are things that used to fight my mom about! 😂 especially the socks! I remember rolling down my crew socks so they wouldn’t show. No-shows or knee-highs only 😂
Always keep your classics that fit you well. Styles ALWAYS come back. Most styles of today, I wore years ago and now they are back. I had the perfect pieces that could have worn again, yet they were donated long ago. I am not saying to be a pack rat, but keep the good stuff. If you don't wear it again, your daughter will. 😁
Generation Jones here, a bit of a pack-rat with clothes that span the decades. I especially loved the Mary Quant mini shift dress that made a resurgence in the early 1990's, think Twiggy, with updated fabric/colors. My knees don't allow me to feel comfortable in something so short now, but I am hoping my daughters will wear them, if they ever come back into vogue. My closet is a thrifter's gold-mine.
@tinapomfrey5412 You can wear shift dresses with tapered or flowy pants, too. You just have to pick the right pair that compliments the color/cut of the dress. I often pair certain styles of dresses with pants and it looks really nice.
I live in the NYC area and the sweater around the shoulders is rarely seen. I recently spent two days in Manhattan people watching, specifically looking at fashion, and saw ONE person with the sweater around the neck. Thousands of women, one person. I specifically stayed in Chelsea & Flatiron, more residential neighborhoods that are tourist-adjacent. There is a difference as to why the sweater is tied where it is. Around the waist is getting it out if the way. Around the shoulders provides a layer of warmth that you don’t get around the waist. If I’m hot, that sweater will never be around my shoulders. Fashion styles & styling is very regional, I’m finding more & more that what is being worn where I live is very under-represented on YT. We don’t dress like Florida & Texas influencers.
As a millenial I never wore a wrap dress😅, just not my style. But I really liked the peplum dress and the short bandeau dress which sadly also seem outdated now.
I love wearing a sweater with just a big scarf. I live in Maine. Running errands and getting in and out of a vehicle with a big bulky coat 6 months of the year is not comfortable. My coat stays in the back seat in case I need it, where it belongs.
Long cardigans and water flow cardigans never go out of style! I have enjoyed my high quality long cardigans for many decades now and only love them more with time.
I’m gen x and I agree with some of what you say. However, what is “in” and appropriate for your age group isn’t necessarily right for my age group. At 58, I would look stupid wearing some of the stuff you recommend.
It's funny, I'm 4'11" and will never go back to skinny jeans. They just emphasize my already short legs in a way that I'm not into. Love flares and wide legs when the hem hits at the right place and paired with a top that balances it.
These days I feel most confident wearing stuff that makes me look my age. I'm 30 now, I don't need to dress like gen z or alpha, I want timeless looks. It's a bit sad to be over concerned with what younger generations think of the way we dress.
"If you wear x, y, and z, you're going to look like a Millennial." Well, good, because I am one. Most currently trendy things are recycled from the early 2000s and a lot of it is hideous. I think people riding the wave of the current trends usually look less put together than how we were all dressing up until this recent shift. It’s all a ploy to make us think we need to keep buying new things. I'll keep wearing my Ugg boots, leggings, ankle socks, slip on sneakers, and infinity scarves, thanks.✌️Wear what you like and try not to give a sh*t if it "dates" you.
While i appreciate the idea " keeping things fresh", which is sorta the underlying theme of the video. I also believe "fresh" is subjective to the person. I mean the concept of having style isnt just following whats "trending" its about what you like, what you feel confident in, etc. If you wish to freshen up your style cause you want to try new things...go for it. But lets all remember its about your level of comfort and confidence in your clothing not keeping up with trends. Which frankly are just socieies way of keeping us constantly buying / overconsuming stuff.

I think it’s just the LV bag is so duped and so many bought on black market that it isn’t stylish anymore.
@@mhanshaw165I have a tote bag from LV but it doesn’t look as big as the one Shea was showing But I’m not going to Stop using it just because it’s not on trend and it cost me thousands of dollars just to sit in my wardrobe, I could easily go out and purchase a more trendy designer handbag but I’m not one of those people that needs to have designer everything, not even when it comes to a handbag.
Dislike anything LV
Fun video. Thank you
Those long cardigans are so practical.
I am not giving that up!!
Same! So much more flattering for my body type
I'm dressing like an "outdated millennial" cause I am one. I'm embracing it 😂
That part.
Same
Your age is between 43 and 33, you starting to act like an old lady that resistant to change. Things change. Embrace change not stagnation or stubbornness.
@@zeekbrickett8095 nah.
@@zeekbrickett8095why don't you embrace the change of not caring what others think. You are acting like a mindless zombie consuming trends that don't really matter. That to me is stagnation.
I feel like we are rolling style back to 2002 - 2008. So much of what is "new" is a previous trend with a different name. It always comes back around!
Everything bold is new again
Everything old is new again
Yes, my coat with built-in-scarf is in again. I have been wearing it for years, and will still.
Not even close, wide leg jeans are not the baggies of 2002-2008 era.
6:58 I like how you actually visibly portray the dizzying reality of how quickly these trends change. It makes a persons head spin.
Imagine spending 2k on a bag and being told it’s out in a couple years. Ouch.
However, if you buy what you love, you will find excuses to style it. 😊
Click on the next RUclipsr and they will say it's their most used and loved bag... it's just HER opinion. I disagree with it, not because i own two of them, but how does a tote bag go out of style? It's a tote bag..
The lettuce edge socks make me feel like I’m 9 on Easter Sunday going to church😂 I just can’t keep up with fast fashion lol
🧦Church on Sunday, me to!😂
I NEED my butt covering cardigans though. I don’t do the waterfall ones. So I’m good lol
I know I work around alotta men and don't want my goods being looked at so I wear those long cardigans ! Lol
If you are pear-shaped, try adding shoulder pads to them.
I said this in a past video, I’m in Colorado, skinnies and boots are never leaving my wardrobe! I absolutely love the wide leg jeans, but when snow is on the ground they don’t work! Beautiful sweaters, skinny jeans and fabulous boots are my thing! Not getting rid of my combat boots as well!!😊
No one said you had to! You do you :)!
@@janetraats7380 winter fashion can be so much fun, you have me beat on the number of boots, I think I only have eight!! lol.
Agree there are certain styles that must be kept due to weather conditions, keep your long boots and skinnies lol
Yes! Canada here
Hi Shea, I am 64, most of this fashion tips I have used on my youth, everything comes back!! Love from southamerica
I dont have a wrap dress but they look beautiful on everyone! That one is a classic!
It’s nice to know what’s in style and what isn’t, but I’m still gonna whatever I want and rock it 😂
That wrap dress is a classic baby. I’m a Gen X’er and I keep a good wrap dress in my closet, while wearing a deep side, diagonal, or middle part. Fashion is fun, and in the eye of the beholder. ❤
If you dress in what you love and feel confident and beautiful in it, you will never be out of style ❤️❤️
Elder millennial here. So basically most of this stuff was stylish when I was young, maybe jr high or high school. So just go back in time. I can do that! Except for the socks. Those high socks are old crazy grandpa to me and I just can’t unsee it! ❤
Right the crew socks are soooo 80-90s 😂
I've started to embrace them 😂 they look good with athleisure.
@@Cakez253 me too, I'm Gen X but the crew socks are so good with athleisure and for me an added benefit is I can wear my 7/8 leggings all year round with them.
We didn't wear socks like that in the '80s and '90s. Well, not in the UK. Perhaps it was a trend in the US.
The Millenial in me is internally screaming at all of these new trends 😂
I am very late Gen X but in all ways feel more like a millennial and this is absolutely no exception. I still feel like skinny jeans tucked into tall boots is the most flattering possible thing on my body and gonna keep wearing it fall and winter probably til I die! haha
@@seltzermint5 I love that same look as well!
@@seltzermint5 with a cardigan! 🤣
The wrap dress will ALWAYS be relevant. Ask DVF and go watch her collection. She invented it
Just a point of clarification: a “button-down” shirt is one that has the little buttons at the top of the shirt attaching to the collar. (Like a classic Oxford style). A “button up” shirt is simply one with buttons all the way up the front.
Yes. Very common mistake I hear as well.
Or you could just call it a “shirt” as we do in the UK?🙈
The wrap dress never goes out of style its ICONIC, made for women who are big chested with apple bodies and also pregnant. The one u showed as an option, not even close to the same or with the times
Everything that you're saying is "in style" I wore in high school late 90s.
And never want to wear again
Same. Everything cones around

Tall millennial who is most comfortable dressing modestly - I hate the cropped top/sweater trend. I’ll keep my long cardigans even if I look uncool 😅
They're not uncool at all. Just keep them simple.
I agree that the wrap dress is timeless. Just depends how you style and accessorize it!
Wrap dresses were in like every store... I don't think they're out of style. I think they actually came slightly back in style.
I am gen x and tall. I love my duster cardigan.
Also what we wore in college ...K-ways, inside out sweatshirts and construction boots.
The long cardigans second as a blanket for the plane, you can’t make me stop
😂
Boots inside is the 90’s trend that has come back. Even though I am a huge 90’s fashion fan, I prefer boots on the outside
What’s funny is every clothes influencer had the long cardigan in their LTK page and outfit inspiration boards all last fall.
You are totally WRONG about wrap dresses they are timeless, flattering and elegant !!!!!!
Keep up the great work, Shea!
twin sets are cool in my opinion :)
I kept my most beautiful short fitted cardigans and waited them to be back.
So, the 1980's preppy sweater over the shoulders is back?
It must be 😂
Much more flattering around the shoulders. All that bunched up fabric around the hips and belly adds volume where you want it least.
Loved it then and still love it now😅
I can’t. It’s giving Carlton from Fresh Prince vibes
@@melb1806 😆 🤣 😂
Hi Shea. I appreciate knowing what’s in and what’s out. I don’t feel like I have to follow your advice strictly, but I’m glad to have the info. It keeps me looking and feeling more youthful. I don’t understand why people react so negatively to a video like this. Keep up the good work and thank you.
The Diana von Furstenburg wrap dress is a true classic!
A wrap dress will never ever go out of style. It has been a classic since Diane Von Furstenberg came up with it.
I’m 42. I have never worn a wrap dress. I always thought they were for old ladies
But I AM an outdated Millennial!
Hahaha sometimes I am too!! It's ok!
Oh, you're such a card 😅
I am 55 the wrap dress is a blessing i received so many compliments
The iconic wrap dress was created by Diane von Furstenberg and has been a classic for 50 years - forever flattering classic style for all age groups and sizes
i love wrap dresses. i think they are a classic along with pants tucked into high boots. i also still love long cardigans. it’s not all i wear but i do like being able to mix it up.
For real? I literally just discovered waterfall cardigans, and absolutely adore mine. Wear it like every day, and regularly get compliments.
I had a bunch of high cut swimsuits I had barely worn that sold so quickly on Poshmark I was shocked. Now I get it.
You alternative to the wrap is casual and gives a total different look. The wrap dress covers more and can be worn anywhere.
Hahaha
I believe vans are exempt from this.
I just bought a DVF Target wrap dress. Long sleeve black white print, with cowboy boots it’s awesome. But dang!
The neverfull is timeless.
Yeah, if you travel, it's perfection. I work in tech and if you go to a conference, you'll see these everywhere.
Such a great collection of vintage/pre owned bags! A vintage COPYMAXY is definitely also on my list
Yes! I kept Very little but my daughter is rocking my old black/white houndstooth skirt!
@@neanea1173 A black/white hoodstooth skirt with a white shirt and a tie was my school uniform for my private elementary school. ❤
@tinapomfrey5412 You can wear shift dresses with tapered or flowy pants, too. You just have to pick the right pair that compliments the color/cut of the dress. I often pair certain styles of dresses with pants and it looks really nice.
The wrap dress is an absolute classic especially from DVF! I still like the neverfull, people just want the Goyard print now but it’s a workhorse.
I live in a quite fashionable area in London and believe me loads of neverfull totes are still around.
Wrap dress is a classic! Never outdated. But thanks for your other tips.
I can relate to all of them BUT......the flowery first dress. A wrap dress will ALWAYS flatter more than whatever that was!
i tried center part and it makes my face look like an egg.
😅 not flattering on me eitther!
As a millenial I never wore a wrap dress😅, just not my style. But I really liked the peplum dress and the short bandeau dress which sadly also seem outdated now.
The scarves killed me- like my soul!!! It’s the one I can’t and won’t let go of!!
Saaaame 😭😭😭
Yep not giving these up.
I love wearing a sweater with just a big scarf. I live in Maine. Running errands and getting in and out of a vehicle with a big bulky coat 6 months of the year is not comfortable. My coat stays in the back seat in case I need it, where it belongs.
I thought scarves were a classic.
Never let them go if you love it! Scarves are timeless classic.
Girl you can't wear that bodice dress to work. But that wrap dress can go to work, church, pta, etc. I'm keeping my wrap dress
🤣I’m Gen X & I’m doing most things you say not to do- I’m not changing 😂😂 Hate the suggestions 🤣
Diane von Furstenberg wrap dresses are from the 70's, they are timeless.
I laughed out loud at the Neverfull! They are everywhere!
Exactly! I put mine away for about 8 years and just started traveling with again because I’ve seen so many out and about. Who knows anymore…
And young girls have them.
But older Millenials are there too. ..the lattice sock .just no for them too. And I'm not one that dresses old for my age At all.
Ridiculous to say wrap style is out of style, it’s not! Add another style of dress but wrap dresses never
Out of style!
As a 5 foot woman, skinny jeans are my best friend
Thank you 😊
Yes much more flattering than flare or baggy when you're petite!
It's funny, I'm 4'11" and will never go back to skinny jeans. They just emphasize my already short legs in a way that I'm not into. Love flares and wide legs when the hem hits at the right place and paired with a top that balances it.
@John.Fkn.Zoidberg I'm also 4'11 and I feel the opposite lol
Wrap dresses are classic, can’t be out.
Wrap dress is gorgeous
The wrap dress is for work, the corset dress is for weekend or vacay
While i appreciate the idea " keeping things fresh", which is sorta the underlying theme of the video. I also believe "fresh" is subjective to the person. I mean the concept of having style isnt just following whats "trending" its about what you like, what you feel confident in, etc. If you wish to freshen up your style cause you want to try new things...go for it. But lets all remember its about your level of comfort and confidence in your clothing not keeping up with trends. Which frankly are just socieies way of keeping us constantly buying / overconsuming stuff.
