I love this song so much...it gives me chills! Игры
This is still one of my favorite video game songs ever. I could listen to this tune forever and be happy.
I agree.
It was truly a gem. Dood youre amazing!! Never stop bro ever. Video game nerds like us absolutely love ish like what you do.
Same😢
One of the best MM songs! Love it. I could put this on repeat all day.
How has no one replied or liked this yet-
Hi bro
Mai boi
@@sunscreeen4270 no, back in 2013 youtube broke the comment section with google+ integration so old comments have their replies broken up still.
AAAAAAA ILY
When I first played MM, this song stuck out immediately. It's definitely one of my favorite Zelda songs!
This game is the best game i have ever played
@@beegcuh3072 Yes it is the best game ever made ❤️
@@beegcuh3072I didn't like this game when I was younger but I played it 5 years ago and only then realized what I missed out on
This was probably the only place on Majora's Mask where I didn't felt that everything was deeply dark and doomed, this song made me kinda happy and gave me hope.
Haha true
Not me. When I walk in here, I had this feeling something bad was going to happen.
When you think of it, it tells about the old man’s loneliness and at the same time it gives hope too, weird.
When I was a kid I would always run to the observatory when the moon was about to crash because I didnt know how to go further in the game and would always end up dying, and I would go here every time because it would calm me down from the stress of the moon falling
Hey I saw your comment on a 10 hour loop of this song lol
So happy and so sad at the same time... This song captures the game's atmosphere perfectly
So true...
It really does
This song was eerie for me. The entire game revolves around this dark, uncomfortable, somewhat haunted environment where the world is doomed. But the astral observatory, it's colorful, cheery, the music was in major keys. Why? What story is there behind the creation of this flamboyant star-gazing station? Coming here is inevitable due to the moon tear allowing access to the clock tower; which brings up another point, you must come here at the beginning of the game to begin your adventure to free the colossi, and you must come here at the end to fight the final battle with Majora's Mask. Why here? Of all places, why here? So many questions I've pondered since my childhood, all still unanswered.
Giants, not colossi. But I digress.
Aesthetically, the Observatory matches the overall transition from Link being a child to an adult, in the beginning he's still a kid, matched by being in the body of a Deku boy, as such, the Observatory matches his childish wonderment at such a place and the implications of the world that it presents. It also symbolizes his single-minded focus of getting the Ocarina back so that he can return to his normal form.
Later on, once he sheds the Deku form, and thus beginning the journey into adulthood, it then symbolizes not only the childish wonderment that is inherent in all of us, but the adult capacity to use something simple to our advantage. (Read, using the Lunar Tear to do the chain of deals with Business Dekus that get you things like passage into the tower and pieces of hearts.)
This all, of course, is just my musings.
I've always felt that the song that plays in the Astral Observatory was the song that the world sung before it died, however painful that death may be. One last song of happiness before the world ends.
It's also symbolic of the struggle of a first-time playthrough of the game; when you get to that point of the game, you're typically beginning the Dawn of the Third Day; it becomes painfully obvious as to just what you are up against. Majora - a demon with powers beyond reckoning - and the Moon, slowly plummeting towards Termina. And what are you? A child, trapped in the body of a pathetic Deku Scrub. You don't have a sword, or a shield, or any gear, really; no, your only weapons are spit bubbles and Deku Nuts. Walking into that Observatory, listening to the music, observing the Skull Kid summon the Moon, and watching as the Moon sheds a single tear... knowing what you are up against, and knowing full-well that you don't stand a chance, the song, the scenery, and the events that take place in that Observatory are symbolic of a death march; knowing full well that you are hopeless, that everything is hopeless, but refusing to hang your head down and accept the depression of your inevitable death, however painful or certain it may be.
In other words, that song - that area, really - is symbolic of the loss of hope, and the bittersweet realization that defiantly living your last day with your head held up high is better than dying before you die. The whole area screams "bittersweet", and I feel like that was wholly intentional, considering the circumstances.
(TL/DR Good Song)
I think you're just thinking about a little to much
You don't actually have to get the Moon's Tear to access the Clock Tower at the end of the game. The only time you need the Moon's Tear to get up is at the beginning of the game, because in deku form you can't reach the ledge to get to the entrance where you could reach the ledge as human Link. Either way though, I absolutely adore all of the undertones set in Majora's Mask, which is one of the reasons why it stands as my favorite Zelda game of all time. Genius, Nintendo. Genius.
I work for the National Weather Service, and I am constantly traveling to austere and remote mountain locations for weather radar maintenance. I remember working a rather difficult job, and youtube decided to put this in the playlist. I went outside after the job was done, and it was a clear night sky, just perfect for this song. That was 10 years ago, and I still come back to check out old and new songs you put out. Thanks!
That cat needs his own RUclips channel. He's awesome
As a lover of space and planets and stars, I can honestly say that this song is exactly what I imagined space and having an adventure there would sound like. I always loved this song just for that reason.
I don't know why, but I always break into tears when I hear this, it holds some sort of sway over me.
Me too, I think its so beautiful, especially this version of the song XD.
+ThatGuyLew its good to have the feels bro, let it all out, feel elated.. with me its when the moon crashes
+ThatGuyLew i do get a tear jerker for hearing the song
It's fucking beautiful how Nintendo can make such a beautiful piece of music for just one minor part of the game. It makes me wonder how this piece came to be.
"We need a piece for a beautiful observatory I'm majoras mask."
"You got it, here."
And for what? For the song to never be heard again. Of course, people like me or you will listen to this time and time again. But what about people who have never even layed a finger on a Nintendo controller? They will never be able to hear such a beautiful piece of music ever in their lives. And they will never dream to and fantasize from a piece like this. It will soon be lost, and will remain to only be heard by us.
Well said !!!
+Zaniction
That's a fabulous comment. Cannot fault it whatsoever.
+Zaniction :3
it will not get lost if you care about preserving it
Looking deeper into it this place isn’t that minor which is the beauty of it
That cat is just like "Human I swear to god"
Apparently everyone thinks this sounds happy? It sounds sad to me... It's still great, though.
NickGaming3 I've always felt that reflected the observatory keepers loneliness. So many years secluded from everyone else in Termina in his gated observatory, far away from any other human contact, an old man watches the moon fall from the heavens. Waiting to die, alone.
+NickGaming3 It's both IMO.
Rose Isaac Netherton Melancholy really is a great way to describe the song.
+NickGaming3 I think it's sort of like Carl Sagan etc. The wonder and beauty of the stars and the cosmos, not necessarily happy or sad.
Is a combination of happiness with sadness bro...
Dude, it made me feel happy too!
This is my favorite Zelda game, and this song it's a mix of sadness and happyness, perfect for the game.
God bless you bro
Achoo
Hahah, that got me
Ya
lmao xD this killed me lmao
He's god
this was one of my favorite songs in Majora's Mask~
Loved that game, regardless of how frustrating it got before I realized you could skip the bosses so you could finish other temples...
Wow, that's awesome.
"I own the Happy Mask Shop. I travel far and wide in search for masks. During my travels, a very important mask was stolen from me by an imp in the woods. So here I am at a loss... And now I've found you. Now don't think me rude, but I have been following you... For I know of a way to return to your former self. If you can get back the precious item that was stolen from you, I will return you back to normal. In exchange, all I ask is that you also get back my precious mask that imp stole from me. What? Is that not a simple task? Why, to someone like you, it should be by no means be a difficult task. Except... The one thing is... I'm a very busy fellow... And I must leave this place in three days. How grateful I would be if you could bring it back to me before my time here is up. But, yes... You'll do fine. I see you are young and have tremendous courage. I'm sure you'll find it right away. Well then, I am counting on you..."
- Happy Mask Salesman
You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you Alex?
You shouldn't have done that...
DROWNED
I own the Happy Mass Shop....Praise Jesus
Kathleen Mancillas No just No
Have you considered recording this again? Don't get me wrong, it's amazing, but the melody has great potential for this kind of acapella arrangement and I think you can make it sound as good as your best and more recent videos. Also, an echo effect would fit particulary well.
+Winged Mad I agree!
+Neopick Windfire well, as long as he doesn't overdo it I think it would be a nice addition. Check out his "Shining Force 2 - Elven Town a capella" video, that's the kind of SFX I was referring to. It was uploaded 8 months after this one and it became one of my instant favourite works in this channel.
+Winged Mad He could maybe do that for Dire, Dire Docks too.
Would love to hear this again!
I'll never understand the type of person that could view this, or awesome things in general, and actively click "dislike." Blows my mind
me either,
they're sad souls
I dont even care how many dislikes this has. I just love the song and what he does.
Also every video that has likes will have dislikes
I appreciate it man! I just fist bumped Charl for you.
Majora's Mask is like the Swans album Soundtracks for the Blind. Trippy, Uncomfortable and Emotionally Satisfying.
this is my favourite theme from majoras mask and i never hear anyone talking about it, and here you are having done a cover of it, you definitely got that happy, cheery feeling that i get from the song. heck it kinda feels like its up in the stars.
I dont have time, I must hurry! D:
I need a 10 hour loop of this!
theres a 10 hour version of the original
Broooooo, I was so hyped to see you acapellad this, and was so excited to hear how you’d handle the intro bit
Perfection
This song is legitimately the only thing that got me out of bed this morning. Excellent work! :) Your arrangements are so full sounding, and display an interesting variety of texture. Thank you for uploading :D
This song really feels like the end times it scares me but it's ok I know
seven years later and this is still the ringtone i use for my wife
This is amazing! You always make me love my favorite songs even more Smooth!
I love this so much, along with every song and video you have created. Keep up the great work!
This is really good. Have you thought of doing any Banjo-Kazooie music?
+Maff Sassas Fuck you Scammer
Now I want to play Majora's Mask again T-T
Soon my friend. Soon
Or now just sayin

its worth it! i own both :D
I've never played any Zelda games but through the stream, Smooth mentioned this and I had to check it out. I love chill tunes and this is amazing. Great work, mate.
Somehow you perfectly capture exactly what I was feeling at that exact moment when I played the game for the first time in your acapella awesomesauce. You. Are. Amazing.
ilove this channel :D
Listening to this while constipated is a good substitute for X-Lax.
My favorite track from Majora's Mask. Thank you so much for covering this one
Simply amazing, brings chills every time I hear it.
I had the strangest dream about this place last night. I was Link and as I was walking around, a Moon Tear fell before me. When I showed the owner of the observatory, he got weird and demanded I hand over the Moon Tear. When I gave it to him, he became aggresive, screaming at me to leave. I left and then it got really dark in the sewers on the way back. Scary shit was happening and then I woke up.
Sounded like a pretty cool dream, thanx for sharing.
MegaFlamingtaco I suppose from a certain perspective it was interesting. But from my standpoint, it was just terrifying. Also, no problem!
I love making drum and bass beatboxing with this song n.n
And the song of course!!
I wish I had an observatory just like this. Whoever designed it did a wonderful job with all the many colors. It's so beautiful that I doubt I would ever want to leave. Thanks for showing this track some love. This earned you another subscriber. :)
You're the reason why I installed my N64 again and playing all night long TLOZ ocarina of time and majora's mask. Thank you for bringing my long forgotten childhood back
24 people are stuck in the water temple frustrated and dislike this video for no reason
I actually never finished majoras mask either
maiego22222 how have you not finished it I beat it when I was 7
These comments are really becoming lame. Lamer than the dislikes.
howyourgardengrows I was stuck in water temple for 2 months ._.
maiego22222
I now have a strong suspicion that I also may have become stuck at the water temple as I also alas have never finished the game (although I harbour a moderate ambition to do so either in this lifetime or the next).
So apparentely jesus likes to do link majoras mask acapella while on the white studio that possibly is in heaven.
Lol
Umm.. Jesus was a brown man with curly black hair and a short scraggly beard.
And I'm just educating you on the fact that most people's perception of Jesus is wrong.
Saimeren I already knew that bro.
But you didn't had to invalidate the joke
Saimeren "I have to ruin a joke and try to act smart."
Same here. Nothing comes even remotely close to being as enchanting as the Astral Observatory Theme. Amazing work by the way McGroove! This was the first video I've seen of yours and I instantly subscribed during the video. Keep on keepin' on!
I am awed and humbled by your talent. Thank you for sharing with the world!
this song is very sad. i love it but it's like end of the world. thé moon's coming ;-(
I guess smooth is a younger version of the scientist...he even has the hat
Oh god I'm choked up. You sir are my new favorite youtuber. Nothing on youtube has ever made me feel like this before.
Well done man, your work is highly commendable. It was great to show my brother these tunes that we listened to as juniors 20 years ago.
I beg you make Deku Palace °^°
What is your/his cats name? ^^
Cat's name is Charl.
Best version of this song that has been or will ever be recorded. Congratulations! You did it!
Probably one of my favorite songs from the legend of Zelda series, bravo sir you have won my heart container.
The real version of this song is annoying and got stuck in my head
annoying?
***** Why too much +1 on your comment?
this is my one of my favourite songs in the game!!! beautiful cover!
I'm sure you could do this to any song and it would be great, but the fact that you pick VGM and specifically a song like this... just, THANK YOU.
First thing I thought of when Majora's Mask 3D was announced was this! Thank you again Smooth for this awesome arrangement of this soothing song!!
Astral Observatory is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in any game ever. Thanks for doing this one.
This is so wildly epic lmao you're the man dude
Thank you for this beautifully done cover.
Wow! Outstanding arrangement mr. McGroove!
This song always makes me happy and you just made it better. Thank you...
AMAZING! I was working one day and I was like I have this song stuck in my head, it was this song of yours. And it was stuck in my head because it is perfect!
I miss this game so much I remember I would sit here until the final day just listening to the music thank you for bringing it all back
Very awesome, dude! I'm really digging the tone you have! Plus, when I noticed you dancing with your cat, it pretty much sealed the deal that you were awesome!
The cat is one of the best parts of your videos...I always look forward to it.
Fantastic arrangement.
Man, I wish I new how you did these! They're amazing and I love all of them!
This brings so much emotion to my face, my good sir, you fill my days with beauty
Dude you are so talented and rad i love all the zelda acapellas and all the other ones you have on this channel :D
Pure awesomeness, you sir are just GREAT
I love your vocal, Smooth McGroove.
This is amazing. Keep up the good work.
Holy mackeral.. so so so GOOOD. Thank you!!! gave me chills
holy crap that was amazing. this song is so great and the arrangement is just wow kudos sir
The first time i heard this theme i was so wordless, it was really magnificent, peaceful and warming. I didn't expect this from a place like an observatory, indeed it reprensents well the idea of a deep universe in which you can fall for hours without being scared but otherwise safe. It's like an endless call from the space.
This sounds amazing man, It sways me to sleep, I can listen to this over and over again without getting bored lol
Absolutely beautiful
Really impressive. keep up the amazing work!
:) We could tell you dug this one, because you're mostly looking at us throughout the video. :)
It's amazing how integrated the songs become in our hearts and minds. Thank you for your inspiration.
Played this game a bit yesterday, and remembered why it's one of my favourites. Music is amazing, especially this song.

Finding this made my day, finding your channel made my week.
Aw man, BRILLIANT.
Love this so much
You are my new favourite person in the universe, I have spent the entire day depressed as anything and you have made my day. :)
This is the best Zelda OST, I love this!! Thanks so much!
My favorite piece from Majora's Mask. Great job.
There was something so sublime about this place and the theme. Majora's Mask is a work of art.
I loved this room as a kid, would come to this zone just to listen. Thank you for this Mr Smooth.
i think i watched this 50 times in a row. no joke. this is awesome!!

This is by far my favourite song you have made you kind sir ^_^
Great job, dude! It's my favorite song from the game! Kudos!
