What I love about Bill's mashups is that you can be a fan of either band, and he doesn't make you feel like he's ruining their music by mixing it with another song, but instead honoring it.

The pitch shifting of "true" to make it in a major key was inspired.
Agreed, however we should point out that the authentic and accurate spelling of that lyric is not a puny "true", it's "trueee-*AH!*"
there was no "pitch shift", the pitch sounds different because you cannot hear the accompanying instruments from the band. hearing the instruments with his vocals makes it seem like it is a different pitch of vocals, but its not.
Sad But True is in D Locrian which is similar to D minor. It works because the original song is in D major.

The first "true" in the original song seems to start briefly at D, bounce off that to D#, and then back to D. The second one seems to be E F E D, although the E is slightly off. I suppose that I can treat that as what Hetfield meant to sing as opposed to trying to sing a D# and missing. Now, I will try to compare it to this mashup.
First, everything seems to be pitched a half-step-down to accommodate being in E in the verses and F#. The first "true" seems to move from C# to D# and then back to C#, it being a full-step instead of a half-step in the original. THIS is what I was referring to in my previous post. The second one starts on that weird E flat/E note that goes to F, back to that off E note, and down to C#. So, it is the same except it goes a half-step lower to match up with the rest of the vocals being a half-step lower.
Now, maybe that is not McClintock did and I am just hearing things incorrectly. He can correct me if he wants.
The reason a lot of these mashups work is because major and minor keys are interchangeable.. so a melody sang in a minor key will sound perfectly reasonable with a major key, as is the case here. No pitch shifting or autotune required (or perhaps just the absolute bear minimum)
I am in complete and utter awe of this man and his insanely brilliant ability to meld these songs together. Each one is a masterpiece that surpasses any regular limited human comprehension. Utter. Awe.

Such a shame Metallica developed such an aversion to a cheerful major key after the 70s. I think when Leo left, they really felt it creatively.

As a musician, I really admire Bill’s arrangement of this..it really works. And the ‘Dood doo loo doo doo…aha…I’M YOUR PAIN!’’ bridge between chorus/verse is genius! And the rhyming of the dooo doos, with the word true…genius.
And ‘doo do loo loo-sad but true…doo do loo loo-sad true’ is also brilliant. I actually like this as a stand alone song.

I I love the Taylor Swift "Electro Love Funk" which sadly has disappeared (that said I do have a copy of the audio) that was truely great work as has been much of your work which sadly has been removed from RUclips over the years.

I try listening to other mashup artists but I can't even make it through an entire song. Bill is in an entirely different league. Others have some great ideas and clever bits, but literally every mashup Bill has done is clever, ironic, and masterfully thought out and executed beginning to end. There are a few I don't care for as much as others but they are still awesome and I can enjoy them all the way through.

Growing up as a young man, I loved Metallica and I loved Leo Sayer. People thought I was weird for liking both. Thank you for justifying my love of both of these brilliant acts!

I have been into the mash up stuff since the old limewire days. But the 1st I can recall was a mash of Steely Dan and Michael Jackson, back in the early 80's. Do it again and Billy Jean, if I'm not mistaken.

Metallica was the soundtrack of my younger years. Listening to these mashups is the closest my brain has ever come to short circuiting from confusion. So awesome!

Funny thing is, there are metal disco bands but nothing like this (Static-X referred to themselves as "evil disco" but they sounded more industrial).

I once had this type of mash up happen in real life. I was driving over a mountain and two radio stations began to overlap. I ended up listening to a duet between Tina Turner and Olivia Newton-John. I wish I could remember the songs, because their voices complemented each other very well.
There's a spot i used to drive when 2 hard rock stations with the same fm frequency came together. One would come in going uphill, the other going downhill. Rarely momentous, but once in a while, pretty fantastic. Still, not this good.
Metallica always made me roll my eyes. At last I have found their true purpose for existing. ❤

I would LOVE to see ANY of these merged songs being performed live by the actual artists. Obviously, certain ones, like Bob Marley, couldn’t work (because of death). Wouldn’t it be awesome to see something like where both Metallica and Mr. Sayer perform their songs together on the same stage, creating something new and different?

It is my favourite genre because I know all the songs and hearing them like this is amazing and blows me away.
I want to download them all as one massive album and play it everyday.

So Leo Sayer, while singing a song about dancing, is dancing like that while performing. It just blows my mind how much performances and videos of them have advanced. Nowadays they would have brought in a choreographer right away, if this guy even had a chance in today's industry.

Having lived through both the Leo Sayer and Metallica era's, I declare that that IS the greatest mashup of ALL TIME!!!
I have also lived through both of these Music Eras as well, and You are not alone in thinking this way! Because 'Sir Bill' is constantly putting out great Collabs like this, I have a feeling that He will once again Outdo Himself!
