i do the exact same thing when i build my victory arrow and all other arrows. I know victory arrows are spine aligned but i have found them to be off . glad to see you prove that . great video
My truck just got broken into and I'm stranded in Winnipeg. Anyway.. after that happened. I watched this video and actually laughed.. You guys change my mood and my drive to keep getting better and better. Archer Ash V3-27 Hey Dan, I glass with my bow sideways also. Your the only.otjer person I've seen do that. It's waaayyy better
Now this is a really good video. Shooting in the wind to get marks can be a royal pain. Shot after shot that broke when the pin was off the target. Even a light breeze like in this video. When at TAC please call out the yardages and zoom in on the target. Makes the video so much more interesting. Can't wait to see that video.
I have done what Dan did in this video as far as spine alignment/nock tuning for years. I used to just fletch up arrows however and when I started this process, and granted it takes forever sometimes it seems (depending on whether you have quality shafts or not) but to me worth every second. When Victory came out with the "spine aligned" shafts, I was skeptical and like Dan, found they did not always flex perfect out of the bow if you used the factory mark. I think of it like this, if you can add/do something to make your arrows more accurate or consistently accurate (that is the key words here), why not take the time to do it? I mean, to me, it is the ethical thing to do as I want to pick a hair or feather on a target and be 100% confident that if I do my part I will hit the mark I chose. I found that if I were to fletch up a dozen shafts randomly, I would get 50-60% to hit the bullseye out of the quality set of shafts. But the other 40% I know I had my pin on the dot, yet it hit high right, and I could mark that shaft and it would hit high/right EVERY time. Why? It was flexing differently out of the bow than the larger group that hit the bullseye, but it was flexing the same way every time. Strip that shaft down, nock tune it until you get a bullet hole, then refletch to that mark and see if you don't hit the bull now with that arrow as well. The RAM Carbon Arrow Tester is great, and I actually made a set of roller bearing arms to replace the teflon arms to make it even more accurate (in case you want set, just let me know), but it only gets 50-60% of the arrows right at best in my personal testing. You have to shoot the shafts through paper to finalize each shafts' tune. Do that and fletch to that mark at either cock vane at 6 o'clock or the 12 o'clock position (I have not seen that it matters much here, just your preference), make sure your ends are 100% square, make sure your insert/halfout has no runout and is as straight as you can possibly get it, you will end up with some of the best arrows you have ever shot. A good fletching jig and good fletchings help as well. Run enough vane to steer those big fixed heads, make sure they spin true and you will have no issues shooting long distance with fixed heads out of a tuned bow provided you have decent form. Just my extra .02 cents....LOL
Thank God y'all are showing the nock tuning process! If you prepare in the gym so hard, tune your bow, why wouldn't you stay disciplined and tune your arrows? Why wouldn't you want every piece of gear you use, in tune with you?
Like Josh says, can you actually even shoot that good to notice? We’re talking pro level shooting to even notice a difference. Like he said go shoot 3 days in a row and score yourself and see what happens. Not everyone has an entire day to tune arrows like that. I would say I will nock tune my hunting arrows but that’s only gonna be a handful of arrows a year. All my other arrows aren’t getting that treatment that’s crazy
yeah those arrows he is using are ridiculously light. especially for a simulated hunting tournie. I'd have though he was going to come in at around 450 grains.
I would like to know what MFJJ’s and Dan’s bow set up are. (ATA, DL, DW, Arrow length and wgt.) Just curious as to how they compare. Thanks for a great video. Always fun to see it ‘real’.
Very nice! I have been going through that exact same process for years, cut both ends, square both ends, find true spine by shooting through paper, fletch. I shoot Victory VAPs and 100% correct, their spine alignment is off pretty often. I’ve been shooting Exodus broadheads for several years and they fly perfect after that arduous process. Also, shooting through paper will tell you a lot, not just about your equipment but even more about a new shooter and their form! I think the only difference is I wear my T-shirt when tuning NOT my sons! Haha… good job guys.
Just had a question I've been shooting just the 3vane 2"blazers that come on my black eagle arrows with the rage hydrodynamic NC +p and was wanting to switch too a 4vane for ohio whitetail I'm getting ready to order AAB strings for my mathews vertix and didn't know if I should run straight or a right helic
Love the shoot off. That’s crazy light that MFJJ is shooting but I guess for tac who cares, as long as you don’t blow up your bow, shooting great, and shooting flat.
It looks like Josh has the winner in his hands for a hunting bow. Mathews knew what they were doing when they put quiver mounting holes on that TRX 34.
I'm a bit late to the party but wanted to let you know (if you don't already know) that most nocks have a little tick on one side that is supposed to be on the shooter side of the arrow, or so I've heard. No need to mark the nock with a pen. Unless you want to index where the nock needs to align with a particular spot on the arrow. Either way, great video. Fun to see Bob's origin on the channel too!
My order got messed up…Forrest said it was your fault, because you hadn’t updated the stock lol i honestly didn’t care though. Great video, I had been thinking if the spine alignment was accurate or not. Thanks
Me and my boy love watching your videos, i got him a little beginner bow and he says he wants a mathews like dan the man … hes 7 !! I told him we will get a couple mathews bows eventually!
How are you able to shoot up to a 100 and past while keeping the same anchor point and not having to either anchor lower or lift your head up and not have your nose touching the string? I can get to 90 but once it’s pasted that the bottom half of my sight is out of my peep. My bow is shooting a 285 FPS sigh tape from black gold. I also use a nose button and a hamskea peep 5/32.
Nicely done! Multiple ways to skin the target shooting cat! No way I want the velocity loss at impact of a light arrow on an animal, but that’s absolutely a sweet looking shot at a fake moose wearing cinderblock shoes. Thinking of switching from an index release, have you done a release pros/cons vid? Interested in perspectives on that. Keep up the great content!
So, I thought I put way too much time in my arrows already. I get what your doing with the bare shaft tune but is it different than floating arrows to find the spine. I float all arrows, mark them and put the cock feather on that line so theoretically the spine is up. Am I missing the boat. Ive never went ahead and nock tuned afterwards. If results are different, floating arrows is pointless!?!?
MFJJ,that looks like a dovetail on your bow 😳🏹😄 in Denmark we are not allowed to shot with a sigth that has any electronics in it, i´m shooting a Mathews V3 31 for 3D, and i´m looking for a new sight, shoot with a Truglow Range Rover but ran out of windess 😒 what would you guys recomment to use? 😊🙏🏹
What is the thought behind having curved fletching? Before this year, I had always bought factory built arrows that come with straight 2.6in Fletching. Second question, What is a good arrow recommendation for elk with a 72lb draw at 27.5 in? Thanks so much for always putting out amazing content!
If you look on the Elk Shape channel, there are other videos with MFJJ explaining his thoughts behind fletching. I don’t have a good enough grasp of his ideas to repeat them here.
Yep cool dudes for sure I said the same thing but unfortunately I'm stuck over on the east coast where few even know anything about archery at least where I live..but I'm slowly trying to change that tho.. 😂 lol
spine alignment w/ bareshaft is tricky bc you can’t be that consistent that every arrow behaves the same and you get a bullethole! so the little mistakes every archer makes causes the bullethole variations not the wrong spine alignment. mfjj is right… you‘re wasting time.
Hell Yeah Brother!!! Finally seeing MFJJ put the hammer down and shooting a BOW. TAC is gonna be FUN!!!!
Holy hell I love the energy in this video and the editing style worked. Thanks for the effort!
That was Dope to Finally See, Hope to See All 4 of You Guys Go Head 2 Head, Thanks Guys
This is the video we've all been waiting for.
Mfjj flat out said it like that. Gotta love it man.
i do the exact same thing when i build my victory arrow and all other arrows. I know victory arrows are spine aligned but i have found them to be off . glad to see you prove that . great video
Loved the video
Always fun to watch you and MFJJ banter lol
MFJJ shoots with very good form - like an archery statue. Thanks for the great content.

Anyway.. after that happened. I watched this video and actually laughed..

Love how you all always keep it real. No different than us fans hanging out with our buddies. Well, with a little less accuracy on the range lol
Love this channel! Learned a ton since I discovered you guys. Thanks for the time and actually breaking things down so I understand them better.
Great video as always! Great seeing MFJJ shooting. Thought my arrows were light till I heard what MFJJ was shooting.

One of my favorite videos love the banter 😂

Omg I have been waiting for this forever🔥
Everything you just did to your arrows MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE!!! I do this and will never not do it

Watching MFJJ’s arrows wobble around out there going to 127 makes me feel justified in spending time with my arrows. Lol
That is because of his vane setup I believe and is doing the parachute effect due to 320 grain arrow.
Was thinking the same,. he'll still out shoot me tho 😭
Always learn something watching both of these guys. THANKS!!
Cat skied with Bob more then once in BC. Great guy!!1

Still TBD

Elk Shape bringing the 90s back. Pretty sure Limp Bizkit now Sublime in the background love it. Get those Mathews side plates in black brother.
Does the left helical have any effect versus a right helical?
How far away from papper are you guys when papper testing ?

Lol that’s a big never mind. Found a week’s worth of binge watching on releases. 👍🏼
Looks like MFJJ is trying out the ultraview scope! That’s pretty cool!
what sight do you think he is running the ultraview on? i noticed that as well.
Is Dan shooting the V3X 29 out that far or is that the 33?
So would you say nock tuning is important? Or are my vanes going to stabilize? I’m about to build a new set of arrows and want to do it right.
Nock tune. It's worth it to be able to just throw on any broadhead
Y'all going to be in Park City too? By the way, it was an imperial shuttle that's the shape of arrow vanes. 😂 🤷♂️
Guys love these videos keepen it real. Its not Dan's fault he shot under the line he is very short.
Thanks I have learned a lot from both of you 👍
Gonna be at big sky on Friday hope to see you there
We’re there G!
Are you guys going to seven Springs PA TAC ?
No

if your D-loop is tied right and it's lined up with your peep the peep will always come back and line up perfectly... I know you know this Dan.
been waiting for this

Dan rockin the Wise Choice. Nice! MFJJ holding strong with the Sigma. (no pun intended)
Nockntuning is insanely time consuming, my last set, I did the flex test, all my arrows tuned up great. Took 10 mins, not a few hours.
Could you or mfjj make a video on finding the stiff side of an arrow

Nice bow hand brother
Just did this with a dozen. Shot them all through paper. Turned the nock till bullet hole then fletched them
Minute 10:45 is where the video gets very interesting
Outstanding CONTENT!!!!
Thanks dude!
Love some good sh*t talking. Can’t wait to hear some finals thoughts on nock tuning.
Thanks!
That TRX34 though. Mmmm.
More MFJJ shooting!
So is this MFJJ bow for Tac, or is this a oops there not suppose to know what bow he's taking to Tac yet... lol
Still TBD
Awesome
MFJJ is hilarious, love these s*!t talking videos!

What are the current betting odds for the tac showdown? Can elk shape host an online betting forum, lol? I think I would seriously place some bets.
