As someone who has a lifetime worth of experience farming, it would be entirely unrealistic if the later stages of "readiness" increased the yield. When a crop is ripe, that's it - the yield can never grow beyond that. The quality can change, but the yield never grows after its ripe.
StevenHerbs the yield can so change. Go combine a quarter of canola for example on a 30°c hot dry day then go back in time and combine the same quarter in cooler, more humid day..
oops, The yield does NOT change with Canola or any other. The weight will be higher if you harvest sooner, but then you have to run the seed thru a dryer. Or it will rot. In the end the yield is the same no matter what. StevenHerbs is correct.
Incorrect. 30+ year farmer. It entirely depends on the FRUIT TYPE for yields. It ABSOLUTELY makes a difference. Grains for example are not grapes or even hay, you harvest at different maturity points based on weather and crop age which CAN INCREASE their yield. Optimization is a bit of science rather than art.
here's an experiment for ya Roosters ... do they matter? how many do you really need? what effect do they have on reproduction and egg production rates .. if any? You are the experiment King
Roosters don't matter. I've had 100 chickens.... and 100 chickens with 1 rooster... and 2 roosters.... reproduction didn't change. I'm thinking the roosters are cosmetic only.
I know Im late to this video, but I thought I would offer; The stages of harvest 'do' apply to grass. you can even see the height difference from first and last harvest stage
A year later and this knowledge is still helping people, thanks! I know you are already probably into FS20 but I recently got into FS19 on the PS4 and your videos have been a tremendous help! Much respect fam!
In real life you want to cut it as early as you possibly can when the moisture is at 15% the longer in the season you leave it the lower quality you get, the starches can start to be used by the plant and that lowers the quality and also lowers the weight of the grain which mean you get less tons per Ha over all.
not mentioning the loss of yield due to wind or other athmosferic events that can possibly damage the plant that's already at the end of its life-cycle
Not your fault haha logic would have it that since the green stages depict the crop coming to maturity than so should the yellow/orange stages. With the darkest being the prime time to harvest... oh well, now we know
this question was burning on my mind the moment I layed eyes on the map view. since there is also a green growth indicator. thanks a lot for putting the work into this !!
As some have said yes grass dose continue to grow through the different harvest stages!! And on a better late then never side note with the yields being locked up in the extension silos, once I got another blue screen shut down witch happens quite often for me on the PS4 when trying to place buildings, then I could go and get all my harvest out and get rid of that silo until the patch hopefully!!! Thanks for everything u do for us, i've been watching you for awhile now and this is my first comment on you tube. I am a farmer in the US and some of this stuff doesn't make much sense how they have it but hay it's a game and loving it!
This is awesome, thank you! I looked at it as the reverse that you did. The darker it got, the more ripe the harvest got, so you'd prefer to do that. But now I don't have to wait!! Thanks!!
Yep, from a personal point of view, that's what I thought too, I always have withering on and a couple of times in 17 I was mid harvest when the rest withered on me, should've done it earlier. I too think it's a guide toward withering. Good effort mate.
There is a HUGE science to peaking harvest in real life. Most corporate midwest operations in the U.S. had it down to a 2hr window... and that was more than 10yrs ago. I haven't been around those huge operations in years... but I'm certain they refined it to an even more precise timing. For the average farmer, it's not a big deal. When corporations have 100's of thousands of acres, in 1,000+acre fields, peaking a harvest makes significant dividends.
Thank you for all your testing, I honestly do not have the patience to do that, but I do appreciate having the information to base decisions on. I have just gotten into the farming sim and have found your testing very informative. You have gained me as a sub from the second vid of yours I watched.
You're tremendous at making guides, you continuously teach me things about this game. Granted it's not hard to teach me since ive only played for less than a week but regardless of that you do great work.
This fall for Wisconsin was really hard because as the crops were drying we had rain almost every single day. Fortunately I got my crops in early so I didn't get pushed back an extra month.
@@Darkangal12 I remember my Dad telling me a couple of times during the 70's and 80's he had to wait until the ground froze before he could harvest here in Missouri. Right in our area we got hit with drought at exactly the wrong growth stage so the corn harvest was terrible this year. What makes it worse was up north the harvest was good so prices didn't go up any. I wonder how farmers make it today.
Wow after playing all the FS games I always waited till darkest color. Now I can harvest right away. Even with my OCD I never tested this. Must say many thanks! Earned a sub. That's commitment to your fans and to myself a great RUclipsr and not just a click baiter, much respect.🍻
I was literally just an hour or so ago wondering this and was going to do my own test tomorrow. All of a sudden this shows up on my youtube home page. Thanks for the info
with seasons enabled the states do make sense, as you can do 2 (or 3? insome biomes) gras cuts when you harvest at the first yellow state instead of letting it go to dark orange, and get in total more harvest from the grass field, altough off course more work.
You crack me up ... you have OCD as do I! I would've had to do it all over again too Gave me quite the chuckle when the screen blurred and then faded back in to you ready to repeat! love your vids!

Placing that "ocd" with that effect should make everybody happy with their "potential" questions 🤣🤣🤣 Damn, still can't stop laughing... Cheers man!
In real life its not as simple as this. When the grain is dry its considered ready to go, and since at this point the crop is dead leaving it longer is going to be a detriment. Farmers want to get the crop off as quick as possible when the going is good. Weather like wind and rain will knock down plants and shell out grain. Certain crops will sprout in the head like wheat or barley and peas will bleach which lowers its value. Another we have to deal with in real life is geese or other wildlife. If left alone geese can annihilate a few dozen acres of peas or wheat in mere days.
Im glad you did this, i was wondering about the three harvest stages as well, but now i know if you don't get it out in time your screwed big time, so thank you for this.
I Think the reason for the three growthstagees in ready to harvest is so you can spray it for weeds and let it disappear before harvest. It is because the weeds takes a grothstage to disappear.
another great question answered, good vid mate: was wondering that if in this series of how to questions: what about straw; do the different types of crops: wheat, barley and oats have different yields of straw. Am currently making some cash from the straw after the oats harvest: have been doing horses, just sold my first 16 and got 800,000 (less expenses) so I'm in the money :-) keep up the good work: you are making interesting, enjoyable content.
@MrSealyp thanks for answering my last question. I unfortunately have another for you and the group. I run my game on "real time" and was wondering if anyone knows the time in between stages of growth for the crops. I was running at 5x and kept running into weed issues, but to be fair, I've got myself spread pretty thin with crops and animals. Thanks for the great videos and the help.

The crop is done. It has no more to grow. The only thing that would possibly affected is the moisture content which for the purposes of the game doesn't matter. At least I don't think they've added corn driers yet that'd be cool.

It would make sense that once the plant stops growing more fruit wouldn't sprout. Now the one question I have is, would the first stage yield more with withering turned on? Did you lose the 2 liters of yield because plants withered during the harvest cycle. Probably not all that much but you know... science. :) Love the content!

I've been doing sugar cane which doesn't wither. Each time I harvest as soon as I notice its turned red and reached "Off with their heads" status. I found that there were a few immature plants in the field that couldn't be harvested. Since that plant is self propagating and I don't come back until I have a full field the "young" plants disappear on the next harvest. After three harvests rinse an repeat. I’ve found that grass yields do change depending on the ready to harvest state because it calls grass ready to harvest before it is fully grown
How do you get it to the later stages or growth. Mine never makes it past yellow
I always harvest on Yellow, and usually when I am chaffing corn I do it on darkest green, even though it does not matter when you chaff it.
Makes sense, get the crop in the silo a soon as possible and don't tempt fate. Plus the time between harvests is reduced and the fields are at maximum productivity (I not referring to fertilising, etc here).
