      There's Something i want to request ,there are many tutorials available on internet but they are not like a proper course and as a kid i can't buy courses online . Can you make a whole series for begginers starting from basics to pro like a complete animation course like series tutorials in maya ? Please do it if it is possible becuz it is very important.

      I'll try to do this in 2018! A question: Which do you think is better for that? Several 30 minute to 1 hour videos covering large themes, or a whole bunch of 15 - 20 minute videos about specific concepts, features, and tools?

    I feel that tutorials and that sort of stuff are all over the place, so I'd say your channel would be more interesting if that doesn't became your bread and butter.
    I really like your videos on your experience getting into animation but I do realise that since you are relatively new on the professional side, that type of content can't be churn indefinitly.
    I think what I'd like to see is, like I mentioned, your evolution in animation and where you're working, and as for the stuff you can "add" maybe what you mentioned, advanced animation and 11 sec club stuff would be fine. Maybe some interviews with other animators would be fun.

    Dude, Blender runs on a shoes box. It's super versatile. Don't worry about PC Power if you're going to use Blender. And Blender 2.8 is going to be super intuitive and will have a real time renderer

    ***First of all, Sir Wade, thank you so much for posting your videos! I feel so much more hopeful about achieving my dreams listening to you! I just recently graduated from a MN liberal arts college and the few animation classes we had covered were just the basics of photoshop and aftereffects. Needless to say, I was disappointed. My senior studio thesis project (Bianca, 2018) was an animatic I drew in photoshop, which I actually taught myself how to do in between classes. I'm proud of it but, it's nowhere near where I expected to be once I graduated.
    So, as for experience, I'd say I'm an amateur, just praying for someone to really teach me the ins and outs of the field. Preferably, I'm looking into 2D animation (drawing being my forte), however I'm also interested in 3D. I've dreamed of drawing storyboard or character design, or concept art, anything to animate for Disney or DreamWorks since I was a kid. I've got the passion and drive to work long hours through the night, and plenty of imagination for stories, but there seem to be a number of obstacles in my way. So, I hope you won't mind me bombarding you with questions in the future. There are too many to count. XD
    Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!

    Hey, Sir Wade! First of all, thanks so much for all the videos you've done so far, they've been so helpful. As for my level in animation, um, I'm whatever the level below beginner is lol. I'm going into freshman year of college as a film major, but I've been recently loving animation, so idk if I want to go down the film route or move more into animation. I would love to see a few beginner tutorials for those who are interested in animation and don't know the basics yet. Also, I think what you do in after effects is so cool, would love some tutorials on that. Thanks again!!

    It depends on the type of school you go to as well. In highschool I learnt the very basic of animation(stop motion, 2D, 3d modelling), film/ camera composition, etc. But depending on the university, you do learn how model, texture, animate as well as having access to facilities and possibly industry standard equipments that you may not have at home. But I can see that online courses such as animation mentor might be more beneficial as you might have a weekly 1 on 1 private session like a private tutor.

    story: my dream was to be an animator (games) but I kind of dropped it over the years when I went to university for engineering. Recently (around a month back), I am motivated to do learn modeling and animation.
    content I would like to see: animation principles, profile critiques, tips for better workflow/performance/focus. Basically, stuff that would help viewers (including me) progress

    I am making a career change and am a beginner/entry level in this field! Would love to see more videos like this giving insight into the industry and the different paths that can be taken in order to get into visual development or animation. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Also it's kind of cool that I found you because I actually am subscribed to your wife on RUclips and had no idea you also had a channel too until I kind of stumbled upon it lol. I am a big fan of you both!

    Hey, pumped to hear you're looking for feedback just as much as we are lol. My names Ruben, recently graduated out of a 3D animation program in Ontario Canada. Admittedly, I would probably consider myself in the intermediate phase of the learning process for the industry no doubt. But with that said, I think one of the primary tips that I'd personally like to take out of this channel would be some important animation tools used in the industry to help improve workflows by miles. If you had anything at all in mind, would love to hear about it sometime. Cheers

    I think i'm on an intermediate level. i wasted about 6 months trying to learn to animate with cinema 4d but the resources weren't enough and were very confusing so i started learning maya and now i'm quite good at animating in maya i still dont know my way around navigating it for vfx lighting or some other stuff, i still dont know what alot of buttons do but i know how to get my animation shots done (im not sure if thats a good thing) but i can animate and render my shots. people using other applications asides maya need to know that maya is alot more flexible for animation and need to start learning it now. I'm a big fan of what you're doing right now and i'll really love to see tutorials from you even if its paid for.

    Hey! Thanks for making these videos :) I am an absolute beginner in animation , interesting in being a 3D animator. For beginner tutorials, it IS possible to find ones for absolute beginners. There are courses on Lynda and Udemy that don't cost a fortune, some even free (!!!). There are also some books available, such as the survival kit, introductions to maya etc. So perhaps for the beginners you could recommend low cost and free resources ? Links to courses, RUclips videos and whatnot. That's just to save you time on making those tutorials. Then starting from advanced beginner (is that a thing? A...non-absolute beginner?) you could make tutorials. Give people exercises and show some examples of how to do it. Answer questions in comments. Hope this helps :D

For example, what is the job of a storyboard artist, concept artist and all the other branches people don't know about, and what kind of skills/experience are they looking for in each branch? Pretty basic question to start off, I know.

    a big help for me would be if you sort of tell us how to advance deeper into animating from simpler stuff like ball bounce to complex stuff like body mechanics. how much time should i/we put into each of the stages and how to know if we're ready for the next stage or not.
    im currently at the ball bounce stages (couple of videos on my channel) and 2 of the toughest thing for me is to know what's wrong with my animation/ how i can make them better (since i dont know any experienced animators) and also what my next step should be. i know im too late for this video, i just recently found your channel xD but i hope you read this.
    keep up the good work!
    Bijay.

      right now, i cant wait to start animating for 11secondclub and get better each month but i checked out animation mentor's uh.. program schedule thingy... and apparently students spend 3 months with just balls, pendulums and walkers. Also one of the reasons why im having trouble deciding how i should advance into more complex stuff. clearly i cant even bounce a ball nicely yet. sigh

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  6 лет назад +2

      Hey man! I just checked out your shots on your channel- you're doing really well!! There's a really nice energy to the balls you've animated! You've definitely got a knack for squash and stretch too- you use those really effectively without going overboard. Nicely done! As far as the 3 months AM students spend in balls, pendulums, and walkers- It's worth it (even though it sounds long) it really flies by because you're learning so much other supplemental information. And the balls only take the first 2 assignments I think, the rest gets into the more complex stuff that would help guide you into knowing that you're ready to progress. But what I'd advise you to do is to attempt those types of assignments on your own to see how you do- and get feedback! Join AnimatedBuzz and be a part of the community! It's like a facebook for Animation, built for answering those types of "am I ready" questions :)

    Thank you for the videos, Sir Wade :) I love your channel because you talk real world, and share what your experience in the industry has been like. Yea tutorials are cool, but there are lots of places just on RUclips to find just about every level and software out there. I would watch your tutorials if you made them, but I have enjoyed the Q&A and the advice on getting started in the industry. I'm not helpful lol, I think anything that you post will help someone, so keep it up =) P.S. I am intermediate 3D modeler and animator, looking to join Animation Mentor this winter.

    I think most of the viewers are probably beginners (like me) ,that’s just how it works. However I may have an Idea how to make content for everyone. Maybe you should just start at the beginning and then gradually advance into more advanced stuff so people can fallow along no matter what skill level they are. It’s not a new Ideal but it just seems like the most logical choice. And maybe some scene analysis of a few films.

    Thank you for the videos Sir Wade they really help give me a perspective on the animation industry. I am currently on my last year at Full Sail University, (I know you don't like colleges), and I wanted to answer your questions as well as ask you one. Your first question: I am looking for anything and everything to get me into the animation industry, whether thats tutorials or tips on improving my skills or searching for jobs. Your second question: I would say my animation experience level is intermediate to advanced because I am toward the end of my education career. My question to you: Is there any way that you could look at other animators' work and critique them and see if its professional level quality. That is one thing I want to know with my work. Keep up the great videos and I hope you see this comment.

My turn to answer yours: I'm absolutely able to look at and critique your work if you'd like me to! I know the feeling of wondering where my work stands in relation to professionals. Upload your stuff to the syncsketch website and send me a link! :)

    #Sirwade Question.What qualifications do you need to acquire if you want to do animation say 2d & 3d?

  • @akaye643
    @akaye643 6 лет назад

    Do you need a degree to get into the industry? Like is it a requirement? And if you don’t need a degree at all, what‘a your advice for people who decide to go that route? School is very expensive and I work as a waitress and is barely independent but I want to become an animator so bad, I’ve been self studying 2d software for almost a year now and once I get better I’m gonna move into 3D and learn some HTML and other stuff to get into doing stuff for websites, apps or games.. it frustrates me a little bit and scares me that there might be a requirement like that and even if my work is good, my chances of getting picked for a job might be less than that of a graduate.

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  6 лет назад

      You'll be happy to know that a degree really doesn't get you anything extra in this industry :) It's 100% about your work. If anything, check out animation schools or at least workshops and programs that you can do during summer, weekends, or a couple weeks to help hone your skills! It's much more effective than self-teaching :D

      +ToonShow Thank you! I think at first it won't matter, both can handle bouncing balls and basic character rigs. But eventually you'll probably end up with either a crazy expensive laptop or a pretty high performance desktop.
      I started on a laptop because I had a gaming laptop but I had to buy a desktop machine to really handle the more advanced rigs 😊

    Hello Sir Wade Neistadt, I have some questions. To become the professional 3D Animator: About Software, I like and choose Autodesk Maya as my base or main 3D animation software. For your recommendation, beside Maya which other software must I or other 3D animation students learn? if you advise to learn more 3D animation software, which software we have to learn first, second,...and the end or it's enough to learn only Autodesk Maya? one more question, beside 3D anmimation software, which majors or skills we have to learn like drawing...? thanks for your sharing, good luck!!!!

    Hi! I studied architecture course and finds out I want to be animator, so I’m looking for advices how can I become an animator or what classes should I go for as beginner?

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  6 лет назад +1

      Any classes you can take on Maya, or other 3D software- or animation, will help you. But aim for an animation school or program! :) Check out my Animation Mentor video to see if that's helpful, and ask me any questions you have!

    And I ask again what I asked in another video. Do you get a degree or some kind of certificate after finishing animator mentor? Do you need previous education to go there? Or can you just start there as a total beginner? And you said you have a bachelor in computer something. Is that needed?

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  7 лет назад

      You get some kind of certificate or something for finishing, but it's not really a degree- though a degree in animation is not needed AT ALL if someone wants to be an artist at a studio. For example, I went to school for Computer Science but I didn't finish or get my degree before going to Animation Mentor. However, the experience in CS did help, and having it on my resume caused my bosses to want to interview me in the Training Department, so it can be helpful depending on the path you end up taking. Like FX Artists who create simulated effects like fire/water/smoke/etc would probably need to have a degree in Computer Science because of the technical requirements of the job. But modelers/surfacers/layout artists- it may be helpful, as anything you learn is- but not required.

    Thanks Sir Wade for your videos they are really helpful, my question is: do the big studios like dream works or Disney have age restrictions when they hire an animator, as I started learning animation at age of 30 and still learning, now i'm 31?

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  6 лет назад

      No definitely not at all! I think you need to be 16 or 18 to work in California, but other than that- no restrictions! And you're still super young!! There's animators well into their 70s and 80s working at these studios! Maybe older!

    Hi, I am a 18 girl from Asia, and now I am considering to study animation in university / college overseas. The reasons i would like pursue this is because creating has always been my biggest interest and passion and i think film industry is what i want and its the best choice for me. However, i have some concerns, as my mum isnt very supportive about this because she thinks that working in this industry is very competitive and what if i cant make any imcome to support myself or my family? And so that kinna made me reconsider about it and it made me gone crazy whether i should take this path or not. So, may i ask that do you have any suggestions? 😅
    Thank you very much.

    I am currently in highschool and I’ve been wondering if it would be a good idea to get a bachelors degree after high school and then go straight to animation mentor. Or do I need to attend a type of animation class in another college before I go to animation mentor?

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  6 лет назад

      A degree or class isn't NEEDED for animation mentor- but I would recommend doing some kind of school after high school (I knowwww- Blech. I wouldn't want to hear that either.) but there's no better opportunity to JUST focus on learning things that interest you, and try things that you may be interested in- as long as you aren't accumulating debt. So consider lower-cost solutions if larger schools or scholarships aren't in the picture. But I would definitely try to do both. And you know I mean it, because if you saw my college video, I'm not normally an advocate of colleges. But one thing I've learned is don't close any doors on yourself- life will do that for you to guide you. Your job is to open every door you can, and walk through some of them. But always peek inside before deciding you don't want to walk through it as well.

    • @Kxlene
      @Kxlene 6 лет назад

      Sir Wade Neistadt Thank you so much for replying! It really helps to at least get some advice on what I should do after highschool. I will take that advice and open new doors instead of focusing on one interest.

    Hello sir wade I'm still in high school and want to go into animation. Do you recommend me to enroll into animation mentor right now while I'm still enrolled in high school or should I wait till I graduate and then join?

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  6 лет назад

      Maybe wait until you graduate so you can enjoy high school and your free time, and you'll have more time to focus on AM when you don't have such a demanding schedule with all those classes and everything. Use this time to make your own projects and play with stuff and try things to see what you're interested in and what you enjoy doing! If you jump in tooooooo early you're doing yourself a disservice and you'll wish later that you'd waited a couple years to he more prepared

    Should we go to college for animation or we can work at home and become an animator

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  6 лет назад +1

      You CAN do both- but I can promise you that your growth will be so much slower if you do it on your own- you want a teacher, a mentor, a program to help guide you can coach you along. Part of learning animation is "having the eye" and being able to see the work for what it is. That's hard without someone else showing you what to look for, so I say animation school!
