- I've had this Roomba for over a year now. Here are my thoughts on the machine after owning it long-term, and the problems I've had with it. I've also included several cleaning demonstrations to show how it handles a variety of flooring. Overall I've been very happy with it.
Great example of why I have two Roomba 980's and two Kirby vacuums.
That’s a great idea, to keep around some deep carpet cleaners to grab what the robots can’t. Good robots are excellent maintenance cleaners, but you’ll still want a powerful corded vacuum for deep cleaning.
It works pretty well🌼 It wanders around the house like a drunk toddler. I got it because I was cat sitting. The cat left and I didn’t want to vacuum. The bin fills up if I’m particularly slobbish, but for most cleaning it does my 900sf main level. Mostly hardwood and rugs. 200sf carpet. Takes about 3 hours and a charge stop. I don’t care cuz I’m not at home. It has made my bachelor pad much more lady friendly. I’d buy another.
Costco makes it easy. Lifetime guarantee on most products they have including vacuums! I’ve took a deebot robot vacuum back 14 months after I bought it
Such a thorough review. Thanks Vac Tech. I just got the i4 from Costco and I love it. So far I only wish it would go back to home base on its own when it’s running low on battery.
Thanks! I've been really happy with my 985. I'll have to look up the i4!
Finally a dog hair review on carpet. I have a 960 and it ran right on over it. Plus it left the hair in balls all over my upstairs. I had to run it about 7 times to completely pick it up. Very agitating. So returning and getting the 980. It did do a great job for picking up dust bunnies but dog hair is why i bought it. From my experience with the 960, the 980 may be a heck of a lot noisier, but from its performance its worth it. I will just just stay downstairs while it does its duty upstairs.
Big correction!! The self empty roomba right now is $699! i7+
Also, heads up, irobot sells all the parts in case they go bad, and they are made in modules so you can work on it. They still sell parts for the original from 2002!
Gotta love Black Friday blowouts! That's the cheapest a self-emtpy Roomba has ever cost.
Vac Tech Yeap... who knows how long it will last!!!
Today is 12/3/20 and the Roomba i7+ is on sale for $599
@@this1duDe $579 if you buy the i8+ at Costco
Roombas are surprisingly user-serviceable, so I'm not all that worried about parts going bad. I vaguely remember seeing a video from someone who had the same problem with the top sensor, and they fixed it by dismantling the robot and repairing a broken wire hidden behind the bumper. The ticking sound from the side brush may be a broken tooth on a gear in the drive system, but in the event that it fails completely, I know that iRobot sells the drive modules (among other parts like batteries, wheel modules and bin modules) on their site, and they have replacement guides for those parts available too. I've just passed the 1-year mark on my Roomba, and in that time it did have the wheel modules crap out, (i.e. the Roomba thought it was stuck on something all the time,) but I called in for warranty service and asked if they could just send me the wheel replacements to save time, and got everything swapped and fixed within a few days.
Thanks good to hear! Thanks for the info!
Awesome experience
*I run the m6 daily, and my floors look awesome🌼 **allabout.wiki/Vacuum** I wet mop 2 days and dry sweep the rest of the days. When I first got it, I used the included disposable pads. I didn't like them--the dry pad has no depth so if it picks up a chunk of something, like dry cat food, then it pushes it around or drags it around the floor. The wet pad wasn't very absorbent so left streaks and wheel marks.*
it's from Costco, no need for warranty just return it. Oh, another tip, blow out the filter with compressed air rather than vacuuming it. It will look like new afterwards.
Oooh I want a little vacuum pet now!
Re p
If you have a two story house, can you move the Roomba upstairs to clean?
Yes, you sure can!
7:13 what do you put on the carpet to pick up? 21:32 what it exactly is?
22:47 I love that Hoover rug mat! Can I know where you get your? :)
Will the sensor's have trouble on dark carpet?
i encountered this right after purchase and the bumper sensing going out also with error 9 and the clicking i thought that was normal lol
Can this be used in total darkness "basement" or will the camera have an issue
That's a great question! I personally haven't had any issues with this Roomba, but I have heard that black flooring can confuse robot sensors.
@@VacTech1 how about total darkness? I will not be having any lights on in the basement at night when I prefer to schedule the cleaning.
@@anthonyg8435 if you're going to be vacuuming rooms with no lights/daylight, you'll probably want a robot vacuum with lidar (Dreame, Neato), instead of a robot with a camera for navigation (cameras require light).
I like your review. Quick question. After using Roomba a few times can you tell it to do a specific room or must you transport it to that room? Thanks
This model does not include that feature. I believe the i7 and S9 models do have that feature though. This one does whole areas, or spot cleans.
I have the same model from Costco but I don't feel like mine picks up crumbs so well and doesn't seem to go in such a nice pattern. Any suggestions?
Does yours have the camera on top? I would clean the filter and brushes out, and that should help with pickup. Navigation may be clumsier if the layout of the home has lots of obstacles, but it should clean in the same sort of pattern.
Does it go over carpet to ceramic floor sills/ thresholds or do you lift it? Can you move it to different floors in your home?
As long as it can, It goes over thresholds, and switches between all flooring automatically. It has a carrying handle and can be taken to different floors to clean.
Cmon man., smarten up. simple fix.
1. Go to Costco
2. Buy a new one
3. Put old one in box
4. Return.
Well.. Yes I could. I went to irobot first, but maybe if something else pops up!
Vac Tech I would do it regardless. Get yourself a brand new vacuum. They take everything back.
@@zappamann gotta love Costco!
