In case anyones wondering why this episode is entitled "Odpdypahimcaifss," it stands for, "Oh, Don, Poor Don, Your Pants Are Hanging in My Closet and I'm Feeling So Sad."
Luv the red tshirt on openong scene. Nothing looks better than dramatic color blocking, stark contrasts, primary blue based colors, spakle and sheen and pure white than those lucky enough to have the Winter color palette. Another Winter palette actress they dressed for success, Franny the Nanny.
She was also Howard's mother on the Andy Griffith Show. She was a bad mother on that show. She didn't want to let Howard out of her sight. If he went out with Andy and Barney, she would claim a bad headache then he would feel bad for leaving her.
Isn't it hilarious how times have changed so much you can't even be in your robe or have pants in your closet without the family or parents yelling I can't believe it am I am 67 I live those times my parents died when I was 18 so I never had that
People got married very quickly back then they also divorced frequently.i was only 5 but remember the quick romances and of course babies then the divorces.some made it but very few stayed married to that first spouse
Beiges and browns were certainly popular for interior decor...Seems to appear in all the homes, restaurants etc...and how on earth Don turned out so nice with such an awful mother is beyond me...
That is not a mother. That is a dragon. Or as Venus Flytrap would say, "that is one mean little momma." He was referring to his boss, Arthur Carlson's mother. Another dragon.
I recently found out that Mabel Albertson (Mrs. Hollinger) was the real life mother-in-law of Cloris Leachman. Phyllis, from the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Cĺoris was married to Mabel's son, but they eventually got divorced. I wonder if Mabel was in any way similar to Mrs. Hollinger, with Cloris. Judgmental, sarcastic, and overbearing.
Sex was taboo on prime time TV sitcoms at that time. Part of the fun of "That Girl" was that everybody knew most real life couples like Ann and Don would be sleeping together, which made it comical how they always avoided it. I was in college in those days and I can assure you that in real life there was plenty of sex.
Some people must have been having sex before marriage. Guys said they were, and girls said they were not. 2 very different sets of values. Wasn't anyone having any fun? Was everyone as nervous as Ann?
oh come on, people in thier thirties shouldn't sleep together? What should they do, look into each other eyes and hold hands? Ridiculous era of pretending that the word "pregnant" was unacceptable. This is so silly!
I noticed in another episode in this season, Ann's dad says he and Mrs. Marie have been married for 27 years. That would make Ann 23-26 at start of series. (IRL, Marlo Thomas was 29 when the series began.) Don and Ann may seem older than they are written, to today's viewers, because of elegance of their clothes and manners -- which were age appropriate when the show was made. Styles, manners, and mores changed very fast in the late 1960s.
There not in their thirties. And even if they were holding hands and just looking into each others eyes is beautiful. Sex before marriage is wrong and damaging. Waiting is the way to go!
@@bethr8756 sex before marriage is a must! What if you don't like sex with your partner? What are you a religious fanatic? How is sex before marriage damaging? Wow, maybe you never had sex before?

thank you! i WAS wondering
Thank you.
Thank you! I actually looked it up. They said it referred to this episode of That Girl, but didn’t say what it meant.
How did you figure that out?
One of my top 10 favorites especially all the comments by Ann and Don while the parents are fighting.
Witty dialogue
Classic show
The evolution of Mrs. Stephens' "sick headache."
Ironic that sometimes Endora would sometimes call Darrin Stephens Donald.
I personally could not tolerate her personality.
Great & funny episode.!
Dear pants, you are cordially invited...
Alternate title: "Flying By the Seat of My Pants"
Marlo Thomas was Ann Marie That Girl, i love the opening of the second season of That Girl, i have a That Girl doll of Ann Marie holding her flag.
@@michaelglass4701 how hamy times are you going to comment this?

It's now established that Donald is from St. Louis, MO. In the first season, Donald told Ann that he was from Toledo, OH.
And in the Meter maid episode, Ann tells Dennis Weaver she was frin Fenwick Other wise she says Brewster is her hometown
The hats Mabel Albertson wears, in this episode - same style, different colors.
Mabel Albertson had the disapproving, judgmental, interfering mother role perfected. That Girl, Bewitched, and more.
She's worse as Donald's mother than she was as Darren's mother 😛
She was also Howard's mother on the Andy Griffith Show. She was a bad mother on that show. She didn't want to let Howard out of her sight. If he went out with Andy and Barney, she would claim a bad headache then he would feel bad for leaving her.
She also played a good mother on several things such as Those Whiting Girls.
Patricia Morgan,
What she played in the Andy Griffith show sounds quite similar to the Mrs. Churchill character in Jane Austen's novel, Emma.
The Lew Marie character definitely would be diagnosed with a severe mental illness.

She'd be a nightmare of a mother-in-law. The type of woman you could never please...
My former mother in law was really like that.
This episode is some similarities to the one in Bewitched
Well, now this comment has me instantly hooked because I love Bewitched, too.
Ann is like a little girl around her father. Don's mother is over bearing and Anne's father is a pain in the butt.
Don's mother and Ann's father are very unlikeable...they both seem to take pleasure in causing trouble and pain between Ann and Don.
Two sides of the same coin. Lew Marie and Millie Hollinger.
That is not a mother. That is a dragon. Or as Venus Flytrap would say, "that is one mean little momma." He was referring to his boss, Arthur Carlson's mother. Another dragon.
Mabel Albertson also played Darren's mother on Bewitched and was Jack Albertson's sister from Chico and the Man
The whole episode is about explaining to the mother that they don't have sex. And then the father.
I remember that guy he was the bum in the odd couple
La mama de Donald es la mama de Darrin es Hechizada osea son hermanos?
This episode gives me a sick headache!
Anne made all those fancy dishes in such a short time?
The cooking in this show was quite hit or miss.
They were much better at restaurants.

Ann needs to think of her own dad. He is just as bad as Don's mom. Lew would have blown up about the pants. Imagine if Lew and Don's mom were married.
Being able to have sex was a very poor reason to get married. But that is what happened sometimes. Those marriages did not tend to last.
Betty White
Elizabeth Taylor
Rue McClanahan
Watching this as Gen Z, I'm surprised by how taboo sex was back in the day.

People still had morals at the parents age.
Pretty brave mentioning marijuana.
I am so glad my parents were never like Lew and Don's mom. They were conservative, but to a certain extent.
DON and Ann never did get married because of Donalds Mother and Ann,s Farther
Don's mother and Ann's father !!!!! Those two are the same!!!!! Uptight, snooty, sarcastic, old fashion, etc....
They married the wrong people. They should have married each other. But it helps to explain what Ann and Don have in common.
Of course they are old fashioned. That was how it was in the 60s with parents. Remember, they were born within 20 years of 1900
10:30 😅
I'm sure the saying is 'A son is a son until he finds himself a wife, a daughter's a daughter for all of your life.'
The same with a son.
Some people must have been having sex before marriage. Guys said they were, and girls said they were not. 2 very different sets of values. Wasn't anyone having any fun? Was everyone as nervous as Ann?
They seem to have fun without sex.
Parts of the older generation were so bigot.
