I was seven as well. My little sister was five. We loved this show
Especially the VAMP skits. We used to play their album in our room. My name is Cheryl, so I got to be Cher. I'd put a pillow case on my hair to make it look long, and we'd 😅sing along.
Also loved Tony Orlando and Dawn.

Loved Sonny & Cher. She was born in El Centro Ca near me(Brawley).I watched every show back in the day.I got a chance to meet Sonny back in 1989 in Palm Desert. He went to visit his mother that was in an assisted living facility. He was so warm, friendly, charming. He was Mayor of Palm Springs. He was well liked. When he died in 1998 in a skiing accident I went to his services in Palm Springs. Many ,many people from all over were there. He was a great man & I got to meet Cher.God bless them.

Jerry Garcia was born '42 and she's older than he. Jagger's in his 80s, too.

So funny! I’m smiling at this memory. . . I was a teenager and my father thought they were hippies. Sonny, with that long hair and Cher w/ well, just Cher was a hippie (per Dad). My grandfather really liked Cher and never missed a show. Disobeying wasn’t considered by most of us kids then, but I got a few chances to watch with grandma and grandpa when it was too dark to hike across the farm. Don’t know if it was more fun watching the show or Grandpa pulling one over on his son-in-law. Hmm. (I was oldest of 7 and needed at home so it was a sweet treat)

Correction, sonny was the guy that set up their show, managed it, produced it, set cher up as the "straight man" so her comedy could shine. They did it together. He was older, I didn't know about the contracts...however, she knew he helped her get started, and develop as a performer
She did brilliantly well for herself up to 2024. It all works out in the end. I'm happy for their collaboration. Great shows, great writers, great guests. Thanks CBS

@@diane5836 CORRECT! But you forgot to add one more thing---Cher did NOT want to sing solo! She was afraid back in the early 60s. She had a form of stage fright and begged Sonny to sing on stage with her. Sonny knew he was a terrible singer but also he did not want to loose her to Specter---so he made it work as a duo.

its funny when you look at the performers in the 70s its so evident how the were influenced by the way Elvis dressed in concert! Sonny has a toned down Elvis outfit! the Jackson 5 and others had outfits like Elvis

It was more complicated than that. They werent folliwing Elvises’ fashion as he was not the trendmaker then. Fashion at this time was largely being influenced by glam rock and David Bowie…. Elvis ess following them with his whote rhinestone bodysuit and big sunglasses etc.

@@jchow5966 wrong! Elvis had his stage outfits made before Bowie even had a hit! he was the person that the others followed! the movie Elvis thats the way it is in 1970 was the look eveyone coppied! Not the David Bowie dress like a woman look! WTF are you thinking? the Jackson 5 were not dressed like a woman! they dressed like Elvis!

How old do you think Cher is here? 1971, I was fourteen. 2024, 67 yrs and people believe Cher is in her '70s? She was born in the very late 1930s. Cher is in her 80s and should be proud of it! Mae West was performing in Las Vegas in her 80s and drawing crowds! Magazines from 1968, like Playboy, have the true age and birthdate of celebrities like Cher, Jagger, Garcia, etc. People just refuse to believe they were born in the late 1930s.
Cher's no spring chicken. You can see the excellent work she's had done over the years and continues with. Nothing wrong with any if it - just don't believe these older celebrities are the younger age they're printing.

Hi! What Playboy articles are you referring too? I've been a Cher fan for over 30 years, and multiple sources say she was born in 1946 and I've never heard any different. Would love to know more!

The gentleman's name is Robert Merrill, star baritone of the Metropolitan Opera. He was also an actor and performed and sang in musicals in various cities.

Originally , Sonny wanted to make Cher a star in her own. With Sonny behind the scenes as her manager. She was already a backup singer, and Sonny saw the star power she had. But, Cher was afraid to sing solo. Sonny offered to sing with her , till she got over her stage fright. Singing together, it was lighting in a bottle. Their voices were perfect together. There was no turning back. Too bad Sonny cheated on her with other women, and stole most of the business away from Cher.
