Thank you so much for sharing this! And I know exactly the feeling and it's hard to explain to people who haven't experienced it. You have this thing you love to do so much and feels like a defining part of you, so it should be easy to just get up and go. Then when it isn't the second guessing starts. Momentum is so much easier to maintain than a start. I've enjoyed following your adventures and look forward to the Sunday posts as a way to wrap up my week.
Really well described and thoughtful. It's funny I am really good at making myself go on day hikes, but the longer trips I find I have to sign up for, pay for, and commit to in order to make myself go (Outward Bound, Sierra Club, NOLS, etc.) My friends tell me I am more "me" when I am in the wilderness. They say that is where they say they see the real "Pete", not the person who has to be "on stage" or put on a performance when in civilization and wearing down my "social batteries." I certainly feel much different and more whole in the wilderness. Thank you for this video and all the beauty you continue to show us.
I relate so much Pete to feeling like the real you when out in wilderness!! I think for me the effort feels weirdly similar to initiate a day hike compared to a longer hike, so I'd rather just do a longer hike! Interesting how we are all unique with different motivators and challenges :)
The hardest thing to do is start… I think most of us experience that. Even things we love and look forward to, if they require effort it’s often hard to start. But it’s worth it in the long haul.
Thank you so much, Krysta for sharing this beautiful and honest video. You have such a lovely light that surrounds you … thank you for taking us on your journeys. 🤍
I share the love of the Alpine terrain. I've always been drawn to go high in the mountains and probably why I was a mountaineer. I also feel that tug-o-war with momentum or lack thereof to get my feet on trail. For me, it's the drive time to the nearest trail, home chores, or time at work that become my hurdles. I let myself stagnate in the realm between desire and action which becomes a great set-up for self criticism and the blues. Once that momentum is carrying me forward on that trail, I don't want it to end for that is the place I feel at peace more in the rhythm of my true being. I enjoyed this format in your video today. Your sentiments resonated with me.
Very normal.. Like the old shoe ad, "just do it". Don't think, or overthink, just grab your pack and go. Fun food helps me on day hikes :) . Enjoy your stuff, you are the first person I started following on YT.
I understand how you feel! Sometimes real life can get in the way of your passion! The goal is to make your passion your income stream and you are on your way !! I am so proud of you! 💕💕💕
I recognise this feeling very well of having a hard time starting things even if I really love doing something, the wall I have to climb to begin sometimes seems huge. It gets overwhealming, the getting from sitting to standing and walking. I used to think I was lazy for feeling like this, but turns out I have adhd. This knowledge has helped me be kinder to myself, and knowing why I feel the way I do. I think its important to share things you struggle with, not only for other people but so you feel like you are honest and kind to yourself. I hope one day I too get to do a long distance hike, until then, I am happy to be able to watch other people like you do it here on youtube 😊❤
I love to watch whatever you put out Krysta. You are so genuine and we love watching your hikes. It expands our views and desires to visit Vancouver Island or look for challenging hikes close to our home. We plan our camping trips around where we can hike, and canoe, while camping to also get out and enjoy the beauty where we are. We have never done a thru hike but have done canoe camping trips.
Thank you for sharing. I would imagine there is a grieving process at the end of a thru hike, given your self that time to process. Do you have any end of hike rituals or transition plans back while saving and prepping for the next?
I really really really like these kinds of videos - it's like a more personal and also basic type of impression. Because showing awesome landscapes and telling about the day routine and details of the hike is what I as a viewer can even more enjoy if there is a basic knowledge about the person who is sharing these impressions. What is hard, what is simple? What is going through your mind while home but espessicaly while in the differents parts of the journey? What's the mental strenght YOU need to continue ... And afterwards I can thing about it: Is it the same with and inside me? So, thank you so very much for the Shorts, the hiking impressions and akso these kinds of videos! You do it just nice and your own style.
Thank you! I am really glad you enjoy the different type of video! It's been really fun and challenging to create something a little different. It's nice to get to connect in a different way :). I plan to keep creating more in this reflective style! I really appreciate your thoughts.
If you are in the market for other topics to cover during the hiking off-season, I could suggest investigating the conservation effort required to protect and maintain the trails of the through hikes that you’ve already been on, and those that you’re planning. The threat of development, climate change, and other environmental hazards is real and you have a vested interest in protecting the trails that you have hiked or would like to hike. Some of your viewers (like me) would be interested in hearing more about that. There always the “standard topics,“ like gear lists, prep routines, physical, fitness regimen, etc. but to hear an environmental perspective would be unique from what I have seen so far. Just a thought.
That's a great thought! And I completely agree with you - such an important and interesting topic. Part of the reason I focus so much on sharing what it feels like to be out in nature is because I hope more people will love nature and want to protect it! I will think about how I might be able to approach this topic with my limited knowledge, yet overflowing passion!
I wonder whether because you have a fear of the hike ending, there’s an element of not wanting to start & wanting to keep it on the ‘To do’ list so you still have it to look forward to, & so there’s no need to fear that once it starts it’s one step closer to the end?

What a beautiful introspective.

Wow! Extremely well said. I agree with so much of your description. The rhythm of my true being is so easy to follow once I'm out on trail. Beautiful!
Absolutely love this content. The end of the hike is hard - related to so many things you said.
Yay! Glad you loved it!!
thank you for your vulnerability! it made me feel a lot better about the similar struggles i experience!
Aw yay I'm so glad!! And glad to know I am not alone!
It's much easier to get out of your tent than off your couch 🙂

I have been on probably 500 hikes in my life. It is indeed a way of life.
It is!

I think there is a possibility something like that is a factor!
