The photography of your videos is getting more breathtaking as you go. My goodness!! I personally love your message that working out or training has to be fun. So many of us get caught in the trap that there is only one type of work out to improve your fitness. I personally love hiking, cycling and walking. I am trying pilates classes on reformers which I am surprisingly really enjoying as it's giving me the gentle strength training and balance/core focus that is helpful for me personally. If you don't love it, you won't stick with it! Period!
I love doing different activities outdoors to cross train my body. This week started with a snowshoe on Sunday, then a day off, hike with microspikes on Tuesday, small backcountry ski on Wednesday, hike on Thursday up Grouse, day off on Friday and trail run yesterday. Today is another day off. I started doing upper body weights at home during Covid and do those almost daily while watching videos on You Tube like yours! I always use hiking poles and find that at 66 years young I have had no knee problems. Touch wood!!! Looking forward to the upcoming winter season as if it's rainy in Vancouver it is usually a snowy winter wonderland up higher in the mountains.
What boots do you wear snowshoeing? I just went w new keen polar revel boots and yes it was slushy but I felt the weight of the boots so much. Its snowy and cold in NE PA already. I love it.🥶❄️❄️🥰
@@BucksMom218 Here near Vancouver it rarely gets too cold that I can't wear my hiking boots. They are Scarpa leather hiking boots with Gortex in the lining so I never get wet feet. A merino liner and then merino hiking socks seem to work fine. If I lived where it was really cold then I might have to invest in some light, warm winter hikers.
@@KrystaNorwick I feel blessed to be retired when I still feel like I'm 45! It gives me lots of free time to do the things I love to do and take long afternoon naps!
LOVE your training perspective! I’m a walker, it’s the only thing I’ve stuck to because I love it, but you mentioning working in other exercises during the hike was great advice. That’s what I’m going to try!
Thank you for the video! I’m finding a lack of motivation of training for my 2025 PCT thru hike, although the thought is always on my mind! I’m glad to know there’s others out there trying to get motivated too.
Motivation seems key for most of us. Enjoying time outdoors has so many benefits. I've committed myself to running or riding to work daily for decades now here on Vancouver Island.. Occasionally with snowshoes. Find joy and motivation any way you can!
Exciting news that you and Brian are doing another thru hike together!! Can’t wait to hear!! Motivation is key and doing what you love makes you more consistent! Also motivating is to have a specific goal in mind!! Be careful out there!! Hopefully you’ve both bought new shoes!!! Stay safe Love you ❤
I pretty like that the "sliced" video matches the content: first magical wilderness, second the routine at home. "Micro movements" - if you think about it how often you have to decide how to make a next step while hiking in nature, these are the keys to finish your goals but I have not think about these micro movements while home. Thanks so much for remind me! They're important to be a part of training.
On trail is all I'm ever motivated to do and also enjoy. Lucky I have a few good options within a 20 mile drive. I like to carry extra water as pack weight but I can dump to lighten if necessary.
That was a great video and insight into your schedule and training plans. Is Brian doing his training along similar lines? You said he does the hikes with you? I am pretty much a gym rat six days a week, and I get out for day hikes when I can (not big on winter hiking). I also do a fair amount of "urban hiking"--city walking, if I just can't get myself out to the mountains. Excited to hear about the next big expedition!
So very shortly here I will be 53. And I have utilized my body for the majority of my life in my activities both financial and fun. I’ve run a chainsaw for a living, been a bartender and a server. Lots of different things that have put stress on my body, but the biggest was probably being a D1 college athlete as a heptathlete. I also have undiagnosed officially but several doctors have told me and my children that we probablyhave Ehlers-Danlos. My body hurts all the time now. I have problems throughout my core- floating ribs that go out hips that go out, etc. etc. I still make my living with my body, I cross country hike for my job several times a week, I love it, but I am out of shape and am dreading the idea of how much pain it’s going to cause me to get back into shape. I’m frustrated with myself because I love going hiking and I’m not doing it. Not sure of the point of this comment except to let you know that you are correct. It does need to be fun and it could be really hard to do your exercises that your PT gives you when you’ve been in pain for a long time and even though you know, it’s going to help you just cannot force yourself to be in more pain. So don’t feel bad when people don’t do your exercises.
I have EDS and want to be a thru-hiker so badly! I'm working with a physiotherapist, who is also a hiker, and she's sure I can do it. It'll take a long time to condition myself, so it's not going to happen within the next year or two, but at least there's hope for us!
Thank you for sharing! I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing those added challenges. I hope with the right plan and support you can get back to hiking!
Wow you are really hitting it hard! for me I would hike three days a week (Monday,Wednesday and Friday) and have the weekends free. looks like you picked up some sort of critter on your shoulder strap on your hike...
Consider bringing trekking poles on your day hikes. It involves 95% of your body's muscles in a hike, as opposed to only 40%. Maximises your workout overall.
If you need a change in one of your morning hikes both you and Brian are welcome to join me and my 6 unusual animal companions for a hike as we go out nearly daily. I am just up the Island about an hour from you. DM me if you are interested. P.S. - sorry I missed your presentation on your Vancouver Island trail hike last week as I was so...looking forward to it. Kind Regards Jodi
Presentation went well! Hopefully you can make it to the next one! Thanks for the invite. We don't usually travel that far for our day hikes, but appreciate the thought :)

You are absolutely awesome. There are.
So many more people than you know. Counting on you to just be you. So thank you so much.
Wow, thank you!

That is so great you enjoy multiple different ways of moving your body! Pilates is so great!

Always look forward to Sunday and a new post from you. I see you were not using walking sticks during your hike. Beautiful scenery!!!
So glad to hear!! Yes I was definitely wishing I had my hiking poles with me!
I love that path and little mountain you climbed 😊 one of my favourite places to visit! Did you see any salmon??
Yes it's a nice one! No I didn't see any salmon on this day.

Glad it was helpful! You are definitely not alone!! xoxo
Motivation for me ebbs and flows. Somedays I got and somedays not so much.
Ya I get that!

Yes Brian's been doing the day hikes with me and then he has been more consistent with the gym. That's great you are so consistent! Good for you!

Yes!!! It's my new hiking buddy! Stella the sheep :). I will introduce her in a future episode for sure!
I ate it like that the other day. I was sore for a day or two and I have more cushioning on my bum. 😮😂 I hope you’re all right Brian.
Brian's all good! Hope you are okay too :)

Yes I recently started doing this when I remember!
What is your next truck hike?
I'll be announcing soon :)
