Why the diapers on baby Lolly? Hopefully, this helps to explain things

- The subject of Lolly wearing diapers has come up a few times in the comments.
And I get it!
So I think it's a subject that deserves its own video, with what I hope is a clear explanation as to why she's wearing them.
Of course, you can let me know your thoughts in the comments. ❤️🐒
Thank you for the logical explanation. It’s good to have context, and sometimes we have to pick the lesser of two evils in order to come out ahead in the end.
@@mofolk8896 thank you. It definitely needed an explanation and your right. It is about choosing the lesser of 2 evils to help get the best end result! ❤️
@@Monkey_Rescue_TalesYou are talking rubbish. If you truly cared about the well-being of Lolly, you would not be putting her in diapers at all. Getting urine and feces on us and our surroundings is part of it all. Also, Lolly should not be getting used to being held by humans so much. Are you telling me there is no place for her with the un-accredited sanctuary you work with??
Thank you! It’s a temporary solution, for sanitary purposes. Sometimes what is ideal is not realistically practical. It isn’t the end of the world to use diapers temporarily.
Thank you for all that you do, and explaining, to a novice like myself, the complex ins and outs, of your work.
I look foward to you updates.
Bless you.
@@user-sh8vg9sk5c thanks so much. I'm headed to the rescue centre tomorrow so hopefully lots of updates to come 😊
I’ve noticed vervet forest does this sometimes with their orphans. It’s primarily when being fed and handled but they take them off when they’re actively playing and moving around.
Yes. I read that they have to do so with newly arrived monkeys until their tests come back, to avoid spread of any diseases/infections etc. So good to know it's largely temporary. I loathe monkeys in diapers and clothing. It's awful.
I watch the Vervet Forest frequently. They DO NOT diaper their monkeys. When they receive a baby from a pet home they take the diaper off as soon as they get it back to the rescue. Watch more episodes. Diapers on animals are disgusting and cruel.
I truly hope with your teachings that others will follow your guidance.
@@dawnalpizar5859 thank you so much ❤️🐒
Thank you for all you do. Others should stay in their lane..😅
@@misscarolbear thank you
I appreciate it 🙏
Thank you for explaining it and educating on it. As a primatology enthusiast and being very familiar with sanctuary protocols I knew the diaper was a temporary thing. Being cared for in a household environment until time as a foster monkey mum works out, it’s an acceptable compromise so no worries. And yes when working with animals especially wildlife, anytime you work with animals you’re gonna get stuff on you it happens it’s just part of the job 😅
I like your channel so far as it’s educational but we also get to see you learning along the way yourself. Primates definitely have a learning curve as you learn the different behaviors, troop dynamics, their communication, body language, expressions, vocalisations etc. It takes most people about 2 years to learn the basics and get confident in identifying and assessing the monkeys. But it’s wonderful to see you learning and growing as a wildlife caregiver. Keep up the good work 👍🐒
@@neptunusrex5195 thank you for your helpful comments 🙏😊
Well I'm hoping to show my learning for sure. I'm going to the rescue centre for 3 days next week where I'll have lots of opportunities to learn about behavioirs and primate communication.. so hopefully that'll be a really good time to show my learning and gain experience which I can then share 😊
Thank you for your post. I actively campaign against the dreadful monkey channel industry and have found educating myself about these animals to be fascinating. It has, however, made me aware of the extent to which they are used and mistreated, both physically and psychologically, on those money making channels. This one is a breath of fresh air - as is the Vervet Monkey channel. It helps me keep my mood from sinking too low from some of the stuff on the commercial channels.
@@Ladylifelearner This is me actively campaigning against dreadful monkey channel industry, they come in all shapes and sizes. I have watched her videos and I have to say I am not convinced about her journey centered on monkeys. There are too many elements that do not add up. For example, providing care and protection for a monkey requires formal training and professional certification which she has none. So there is no way she could obtain much needed permits to permit her to have possession of monkeys and live or care for them on her own. What's more, she is not in a position to seek funding on behalf of any animal organization and requesting funds. Has anyone located Bali Monkey Rescue in Lombok? Has anyone checked to see if her monkey rescue friend Sari and their BMR organization exists, is it listed? Or are viewers taking her word for it because it all looks and sounds nice? Good lord! give me a solid reason why this woman should not be reported?

The difference is you're actually providing her need to be held and to let her cling to you. These other a$$hole channels force them into diapers and yet never carry or hold the baby. So then what's the point of the diaper. You're doing a great job.
@mdwarren101 thank you for this comment. And yes, absolutely.. the diaper serves a purpose here she can get the hands on contact she needs. But quite a few people who watched my channel were upset seeing her in a diaper so I wanted to explain 😊
La meilleure façon de sauver ces.petits animaux est de ne.pas les chasser et de faire condamner contrebandiers et acheteurs;mon commentaire précédent a été effacé ,celui-ci va l'être peut-être !
Here in our own western countries it is already hard to provide for animals rights, let go countries in Asia where these animals live and are often considered as pests, destroying peoples harvest (while people are taking all the land where the monkeys live). Macaques are decreasing, but no one care over there
@pepita7053 hiya. I haven't deleted any comments so I honestly don't know how or why that happened. And I agree with you.. the laws need to be tighter and enforced to stop people taking these animals from their natural world. Also, people need education around animal care and treatment so that culturally this stops being accepted

Well done 👍 well done for explaining this, diapers for foster rescue infants are a short term fix. I’ve tried to explain this to others, but a video is better!!!

@douvartzidoumaria2736 thank you for asking this question it's an important one. Yes, it's fair to say I am still very inexperienced. But I'm volunteering with a registered foundation, the Bali Monkey Rescue and they do know what they're doing. So right now, I simply alert them to any reports that get made to me about monkeys in trouble, and they advise me on what action to take and will then do the removals of the monkeys. If the monkeys need to be rehabilitated they come to the center. So I'm not working alone at all and because of this the monkeys won't suffer. Hopefully one day I will have much more knowledge. But right now it's all about learning from others already experienced in this work
Imagine going from one cage to another cage and consider that a “better life”. That’s not going to a sanctuary, that’s just a pet monkey changing owners. An animal sanctuary when an animal that was kept in a cage going to live in a place where they’ll be in an area too big for a cage where they’ll live in a fenced in area for their own protection.
@c.c.1070 Sadly, it's just not as simple as that. Like I explained in the other video, the plan is for Lolly to have a monkey foster mum, but that's a process that takes time. You can't just put a baby monkey in with adults. She'll get killed straight away. So right now, humans have to care for her, like they do with any other animals who need hand rearing.
And yes, in the ideal world, a monkey sanctuary would be huge, full of trees, and would resemble the natural world as much as possible. This requires resources that simply are not there. The rescue centre's main objective is to form a group of monkeys that can then be released into the wild as their own troop. Because lots of the rescue monkeys were taken as babies and then suffered years of abuse, it takes a lot of time for a monkey to learn the skills they need to survive in the wild. This is done gradually at the rescue centre. And the monkeys are in enclosures yes.. but this is what isn't happening to them... they are having violence used against them as they were before. often horrific, unimaginable violence, they aren't forced to wear clothes and walk on 2 legs, they are not kept in small cages or on leashes with minimal social interaction. They are not tied to ropes or wires and simply left there for years. They are, however, given medical treatment, a balanced diet, stimulation, able to live and socialize with other monkeys, and supported to form a troop so that they can hopefully be released back to the jungle.
It would be lovely if the rescue centre looked like some type of monkey utopia of course. But we're in south east Asia where funding is minimal. So we have to be realistic. And there needs to be easy access to the monkeys by the staff so that the rehabilitation work and medical treatments can be completed. It just isn't as simple as letting them roam free in miles of fenced jungle.
I am hoping to somehow find the money to create something more inline with what I think you'd like to see... for the guys that will never be able to live free again. But believe me it isn't straight forward and it costs money and doesn't make it.. so it will take me time. And right now the Bali Monkey Rescue are the only charity in Bali able to take in and care for abused monkeys and I think they're doing a great job with the limited resources available.

Backstory please? Why was she taken from her mother?
Lolly was found chained to a post in an abandoned building.
@@gsmith6026 And why was she not then immediately turned over to a proper animal sanctuary where she could live with other monkeys and have a life without diapers and exploitation?

I have a couple of questions not about diapers. 1. Are baby macaques born with a full set of teeth? and 2. What does it mean when they do that teeth chattering thing with their mouths? Thank you in advance! ☺️
@MadM_333 hiya
Oooh ill have to ask if they are born woth teeth. But when I got Lolly she was probably a max of 3 weeks and she had some teeth.
Also the chattering is a fear response. I initially thought it was aggression, but then came to learn this is what they do when they are scared. In the wild I believe they also do this to the more dominant monkeys as a way of showing submission behaviour. I hope that helps 😊
@@Monkey_Rescue_Tales They are born without teeth, but they begin to grow in within a few weeks.
@@Monkey_Rescue_Tales there are sometimes that they are born with very small teeth, or just beginning to get teeth in. But I don't think they are ever born with a full set of teeth. ❤
Lolly can have cuddles and explore but still be hygienic so as compromises go it's an easy one.

@@Monkey_Rescue_Tales Hi, they're saying they love all the new channels calling out the atrocities committed against the monkeys in certain Asian countries, and that they're glad that you care about and rescue monkeys. Then they ask if there's any way that they could work with you and that they want to work with macaques someday (hopefully forever).
I'm of the same mind, myself. What's the best way that can we get involved in monkey rescue and outreach?
@aerynventress7702 thank you so much for taking the time do this and translate for me 😊
OK so to get involved, first decide where you would like to base yourself in Asia, and then simply reach out the charities and foundations in that area. They are (in my experience anyways) always happy to have an extra pair of hands, and especially if you're good with social media or can help do some fundraising as well they'd be really grateful I would imagine. You can email BMR in Bali.. I know Sari often has volunteers here! Be warned, you may not want to leave lol
@@Monkey_Rescue_Tales The truth is that I need a radical change of scenery. My life's work would be to take care of poor macaques or other apes that need help. I'm not listed with the authorities because I'm a volunteer but she is the manager of the foundation and fully licensed 😀 There are also a number of other people on the board because you need multiple people to legally set up a foundation here.
I found Lolly as she was taken by my neighbour's so was literally about 10 feet from my house. Melissa I was contacted about by someone who lives locally and didn't know what to do about the situation. But typically the rescue centre gets called by regular people who find monkeys, or those who had them as babies and can now no longer cope. Believe me, you don't have to go far to find monkeys in abusive situations in Indonesia sadly.
But of course make all the checks you need to. I am at the rescue center now surrounded by 36 rescued monkeys, each with their own story. It's all 100% legit
