This song is the auditory equivalent of a hug.
Perfect description - I regularly listen to this song on repeat, James Taylor's music is so beautiful, soothing & therapeutic, especially when you have depression & anxiety.
A very warm hug! 🤗
When you haven’t seen that special someone in a long while
Stay calm and listen to JT!

Oh my 1970s Superheroes...
Met James Taylor on a fishing boat in the Keys around 20 years ago. We both had rain checks cuz of bad weather and when it was clear we had been double booked, he just said it was fine if I wanted to come along and we fished all day. Kinda quiet and marked by a hard life for sure. But we caught a lotta fish and parted ways. A few years later I found my Karolina and she is my wife and companion since 20 years. Ahhh for the paths we walk…
💜🎼🌞
Hot agust nights reno
Can't you

Handy man
To Me this is James Taylor's best song.
100%
You can hear this song in a Middle Eastern desert or in Paris, and you'd still feel like you're in Carolina right now. A masterpiece.
I actually heard it in the Middle East when I was flying Army helicopters over there. Made me homesick.
I saw him in the 70’s with Carley Simon surprise guest
Even after all these years, the line "there ain't no doubt in no one's mind that love's the finest thing around" still gets me...😇🥰
I was missing my home recently in Raleigh NC and just happened on a guy playing NC on my mind in an airport. He was there playing for tips. He got a $100 tip from a tear filled me!
Right becuz it's the North, period
Have you a shot of moonshine my friend 🥃😉
“Karen she’s a silver sun, you’d best walk her way and watch it shining. Watch her watch the morning come.” Beautiful and sublime.
I am retired now and living in the Philippines. I was born and raised near Pinehurst, NC. Looking forward to spending a couple weeks back home next year. I still have to listen to this song occasionally. 😊
Trump 2024 boi keep that ass in the philipines motha fucka
I live in North Carolina 25 years, I left there 35 years ago and I miss every day
A twenty-year-old singing in the unmistakable voice of an old man. Truly amazing.
He was 20 at the time??? Damn!
Not this recording....Original recording in London, '68, JT was just 20....this is re-done, re-recorded for the Greatest Hits album, in 1976 (28 years old here.....)
No matter where I travel, Carolina is always on my mind. Always good to come home 🫡
I was named after this man, maybe coincidentally. His melancholy and undying loveliness speaks deeply to my soul. God bless James Taylor. This song feels like it's for me. I hope that anyone else gets to feel that.
Be proud! My daughter is named after this song.
thank you james taylor
If you've driven down an NC road in the summer, with the windows down and this song playing, It hits just a little different

bumping this song right now... LETS GO RANGERS
I've seen him 3 times in concert. I have never experienced another performer who could directly connect with me as he did. In a 13 k seat basketball coliseum, I felt like we were on the porch and he was singing directly to me. On of the best musical experiences I've ever had.
James’s voice is just so gentle, calming, and kind…truly a remarkable talent ❤️
So much head resonance
Mad dad Introduced me to the legend James Taylor when I was very young and now I'll pass this on to my son.
I'm somewhere on I40 heading east to Asheville in my head right now.

one of the best songs ive heard in my life
It was on a flight that connected through Charlotte that I saw North Carolina for the first time. I hadn't ever even thought about the place as a life long resident of the Western US, but there was something about all the greenery surrounding Lake Norman as the plane made its final approach that seemed oddly compelling. It wasn't until several years later when my brother got married in Georgia that I actually got to visit North Carolina for more than an airport layover, and it seemed to confirm what I had felt about the place the first time around. A few years further down the road, my wife and I were beginning to realize that we were becoming increasingly dissatisfied with where we were living, and there was basically nothing tying us to the area anymore (I used to have family there but they all moved away, and my job was now remote.) That seed came back, and even though neither of us had been there more than once or twice, it seemed like it might just be the place for us. A few months later. I just found out that we had an offer accepted on a house near Greensboro. I've never actually lived there, but maybe Carolina has been in my mind anyway.
James was instrumental in my early years of discovering girls, every girl I dated turned out to be J T fans , they loved him I loved them, and I’ll always live him , thanks James for helping me through those awkward days.🙏🏴👍
This was one of my mother's favorite songs may she rest in peace ❤️💔😭
rip
I just lost my mother and this song won’t stop playing in my head
To me, Carolina is a metaphor for heaven, and he’s saying when he passes away he’ll be home. Don’t be sad for he’s back in Carolina. “Say nice things about me when I’m gone.”
Born and raised in South Carolina..been a James Taylor fan since the late 70s. This song explains my home.....
Me too! Spartanburg SC❤❤
Anybody remember the early 70s when James Taylor was on the cover of Newsweek and the magazine declared that Rock was dead and the future was Folk?
In case you hadn't noticed, it didn't happen that way. Thank goodness there was ample room for both and in combination.
The 1975 would make a killer cover of this song

Vocal harmonization is a lost art. We need more of it.

I'm a SE Virginian, so I really get this song.
That would require mainstream musicians to be able to sing without the aid of a computer.
For Peter G, love from Caroline...rest in peace, thanks for everything ❤
It occurred to me just now that I don't know this song well enough to sing it by heart. Which is a shame, because I need to add it to my rotation of songs I sing in the filing room at work every Friday when I'm filing the check stubs after the payment run. Fire and Rain's already on that list, along with Jet Airliner (Steve Miller Band), Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen), I Got A Name (Jim Croce), and because I have an ironic sense of humor, Mr. Tanner (Harry Chapin.)
I am eternally grateful to my mom and grandma, who always encouraged me to sing out loud regardless of who might be listening...and for raising me on such singable and joyful songs. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to listen to this one oh, about 15,000 more times and practice it in the shower :)
Stephen. James Taylor is. THE BEST!!!!
I just moved to South Carolina, what a trip (it has been).
No place like Carolina - sea to mountains - people are awesome.
It was told to me by employee of Broughton Hospital ( NC State Mental Hospital) that James Taylor was a patient there. He suffers from Schizophrenia. They said he wrote this song about his stay there.
This is the first time hearing this song in about a year, I just had goosebumps all down my neck when I heard his voice.
This used to be my mom and one of her very best friend’s favorite songs. & in her 20’s her friend was diagnosed with M.S and then cancer that in combination became fatal rather quickly. To her last days she still loved to sing this song and it brings me comfort to know my mother has such a gentle and comforting song to help her remember her sweet friend.
Everytime I hear this song I think of my best friend: Redo. He shared this amazing song with me, especially since I live in NC. I hope we can reconnect.
North Carolina was where I used to threaten to escape to when life got too difficult. I go there for work quite frequently, now. I love it up there.
I always thought it was "can't you just taste the moonshine". Happy Birthday today(March 12) to James Taylor. Cheers!
Recently found out Paul and George are actually playing on this song, Pretty amazing.
Paul playing bass.
Actually they only played on the original version. This was re-recorded for his Greatest His album.
@@GlenKruse I see, thanks for the info. 👍
@@GlenKruse George Harrison vocals too without album credit
However, produced by Beatle friend Peter Asher, who was Taylor's producer for a while.

I am part of the young generation and I have to say James Taylor and his music helped me get through tough times, I thought I was "hood" or a "gangster", I left that past life and now I have changed for the better. Thank you James, you really helped me become a better human being.

Glad to finally see the "official" version of this classic.
The years go by, but we can still love James voice and his songs!!💕💕💕❤️❤️🎤🎼
The epitome of lofty penmanship/ arranging! Love James Taylor
Just love it!!! They don't make these songs in 2021. We could need this with this Corona all around us. Something soothing, relaxing and reflective. Song of Freedom of Home. Stay safe folks!✌🏽
love this song tnx JT
Much better than the original overproduced 1968 version. This version has a much simpler arrangement. The session personnel who accompany James Taylor on vocals and acoustic guitar include Dan Dugmore (steel guitar), Byron Berline (fiddle), Leland Sklar (bass), Russ Kunkel (drums), Clarence McDonald (piano), and Andrew Gold (pump organ, harmony vocals). Also, who could give this a dislike?
Don't forget the beautiful Carly Simon on additional backing vocals.
@@timepoet77 Carly Simon must've been an uncredited appearance on this song, as the liner notes of Taylor's "Greatest Hits" album don't seem to mention her as having provided backing vocals on this track - she is credited, however, with the backing vocals on "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)" and "Shower the People". As for this song, the credits listed in the album's liner notes are James Taylor on vocals and acoustic guitar, Dan Dugmore on steel guitar, Leland "Lee" Sklar on bass, Byron Berline on fiddle, Russ Kunkel on drums, Clarence McDonald on piano, and Andrew Gold on the harmonium (which, according to such websites as Wikipedia, is another name for an instrument more commonly known as the "reed organ") and the backing vocals here are attributed to the aforementioned Andrew Gold.
Looks like the pandemic lockdown has kept Leland Sklar busy. His RUclips channel has blown up since he started posting daily videos. He's teamed up again with Russ Kunkel, Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel and Steve Postell to form the recently new band "The Immediate Family". Really good stuff!!
Wikipedia says:
James Taylor - lead vocals and acoustic guitar (all tracks), percussion (1), electric guitar (9)
Richard Hewson - orchestrations (2-4, 7-9, 11, 12)
Don Shinn (misspelled "Schinn") - organ (1), harpsichord (1,5,6-intro link), electric piano (8)
Louis Cennamo - bass guitar (1-3, 5, 8-10)
Bishop O'Brien - drums (2, 3, 5, 7-11)
Peter Asher - percussion (1), vocals (1, 7, 10), tambourine (7)
Skaila Kanga - harp (4)
Mick Wayne - guitar (7)
Freddie Redd - organ (7)
Paul McCartney - bass guitar (7)
George Harrison - backing vocals (7) (uncredited)
@@brunoghe That's on the original version from 1968, which was released on Apple Records. This version is a different recording, the Wikipedia article for the song says that Taylor re-recorded this song in 1976 (and was released on Warner Brothers Records) because he had duffulty obtaining the rights from Apple Records, and the lineup on this version consists of James Taylor (lead and backing vocals, acoustic guitar), Dan Dugmore (pedal steel guitar), Lee Sklar (bass), Russ Kunkel (drums), and Andrew Gold (harmonium [although Wikipedia doesn't explicitly say this, "harmonium" is another name for a reed organ] and backing vocals).
heard this at the ffa nc state convention and now i like a whole new genre of music
Masterpiece
Listened to his music for years in the O.R. Such talent.
This song is just as awesome as Rocky Mountain High by John Denver.
Not just as awesome, Rocky Mountain High by John Denver cannot be compared to this Masterpiece by James Taylor. Though RMH is a work on it's own right cannot be compared.

My uncle Bob , was in Vietnam , when viet cong would fire mortar rounds from the streets in Saigon at night into their base and the dirt was raining down on their buildings , he would listen to Carolina on my mind on his recorder, he said it made him homesick more than anytime he could remember
just a very lovely song ...
“Carolina In My Mind” (1968) finds James Taylor longing to return to North Carolina, his childhood home. Dixit Taylor : “[It’s about] that feeling of being called away to another place.”
His debut album titled “James Taylor” (1968) was audiotaped in London - at the same time The Beatles were cutting their “White Album” (1968) - and was released on the Fab Four Apple label.
In the line, “With a holy host of others standin’ around me,” THE “HOLY HOST OF OTHERS” IS THE BEATLES‼️
PAUL MCCARTNEY played bass and sang harmonies on this. And GEORGE HARRISON provided backing vocals, but he was uncredited on the LP.
In 1976, Taylor recorded a new version of “Carolina In My Mind” for his “Greatest Hits” album. This second version is longer, running for 3:57, whereas the original one clocks in at 3:36.
ONE MAJOR FOLK STANDARD❕ 💙🍏💜
See you soon Carolina Crown! (DCI) In my Mind. 💜🖤👑
I love this song. And I would still love if even if I wasn't from North Carolina, lol
I pissed next to James Taylor at a public rest stop, awesome day
The unrecognized contributions of the Beatles to music is remarkable.
Half of them played on the original version
Born and raised in the 919. Go DUKE 🤘🏻
My dog named Carolina passed away and I sung her this song as she was dying
i almost cried reading this... rest easy to your dog my friend.

You are a good human
I'm sorry. You are a good human.
Rest in peace to your beautiful Carolina 😢
The only way I can forgive is by this song...
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Ain't it just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
Karen she's a silver sun
You best walk her way and watch it shinin'
Watch her watch the mornin' come
A silver tear appearing now
I'm cryin' ain't I
Gone to Carolina in my mind
There ain't no doubt it no ones mind
That loves the finest thing around
Whisper something soft and kind
And hey babe the sky's on fire,
I'm dyin' ain't I
Gone to Carolina in my mind
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Ain't it just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind
Dark and silent late last night
I think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
Signs that might be omens say I going, going
I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
With a holy host of others standing around me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And it seems like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I'm up and gone to Carolina in my mind
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Ain't it just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
Gone to Carolina in my mind
Then I'm on to Carolina in my mind
Gone to Carolina in my mind
Gone - I'm gone - I'm gone
Say nice things about me
'Cause I'm gone south
Carry on without me
'Cause I'm gone
Thanks 4 the words
What a great story. That was a very special encounter.

"ain't it just like a friend of mine to hit me from behind."

FYI, this is the “Greatest Hits” re-recording as opposed to the version on James’ debut album.
Yes. This is the definitive version. The version on the debut album is too busy and scattered.
This is the version I prefer. It’s the perfect rendition.
Glad you noted this. Thanks.
@@shahrukhalimirza4470 Agree. "Carolina In My Mind" on Greatest Hits, with the slower tempo, and the more thoughtful vocal is the superior version. I hardly ever listen to Taylor's original version on his debut alum on Apple Records.

You’re not missing much on that one.
This is one of the most beautiful names I’ve ever known from one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard (00:31)
Recorded in London at the Trident Studios when The Beatles were working on the White Album. Paul McCartney plays Bass and backing vocals from George Harrison, produced by Peter Asher on Apple Records.
Paul McCartney on bass and George Harrison on backing vocals.
I used to have this CD
Paul McCartney on bass !
When I hear this, I often think of the driving through Virginia and getting hit with that wonderful feeling once we'd hit the NC border
used to play this when my baby boy was fussy...just walk around with him and he'd be asleep by song's end.
Didn't know till recently, but this was recording in 1968 when Taylor was with the Beatles Apple records. That is Paul McCartney on bass guitar and background vocals. George Harrison was present as well and may be on backing vocals too.
this version was re recorded for his 1975 greatest hits album, the original from his debut had paul and george on it, probably because they discovered him and signed him to apple records
This is the remake made for his Greatest Hits album ...so its Not McCartney or Harrison. This version did better on radio and the charts and is what we hear most often. Vocally they are nearly Identical. (It seems a little faster).
Cool.
They knew
Lee Sklar on bass!!!
Sorry Paul, this better than the original.
