- I love my Pentax Super Multi-Coated Takumar 135mm f/3.5 because it's super lightweight, fun to use, and captures stunning sharp, high-quality images! I had moderate expectations when I first swooped this baby on eBay for under $50, and yet it continues to surprise me every time I use it. Some of my best photography has been taken with this classic glass!
For this adventure, I wanted to showcase the Pentax Super Takumar's capabilities at one of my favorite photography spots, the pier at Huntington Beach, California (aka Surf City USA). Join me for a long walk on the beach - filled with action photography of surfers, artistic shots of the pier, and some stellar sunset pics.
Yes. It's great to enjoy the great lenses and pictures from them
Really nice video and you did talk about the best and the most expensive leans but you showed how good it can be without spending money.
You pictures are great!
All the best 😊
I love Huntington Beach. Nice that you stayed all day for your review. I picked up a used 135mm F2.5 version with their K mount. Bought an adapter for my Nikon F mount. Will only focus up to about 10 feet with that mount but I really enjoy the colors. Nice review. I have the Helios 44-2 adapted to Nikon F mount that will focus to infinity. Nice with lots of aperture blades. I found that lens at Retro Foto House on utube.
Need more Takumar reviews please! Subscribed!
THIS is my favorite vintage lens, far and away. I love shooting parades and this focal length is perfect. It gets a great deal of use shooting landscapes as well.
Really nice photos. Impressive results with that lens.
Favorites so far: Helios 40-2 85mm, Zeiss Biotar 58mm, and the Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 8 Element version. But I just picked up a Super Tak 105mm, SMC Takumar 135mm f3.5, and the SMC Takumar 135mm f2.5 6 element. Looking forward to using those soon.
I've had all pentax versions of this lens bit at the moment I own the oldest black and silver preset version and the K mount non M version. All lovely lenses.
Dude your content is amazing I'm rebranding myself and working on my content as we speak you deserve way more recognition this was fantastic and I am sold on this lens
Thank you so much for the kind words!
I appreciate the effort you took to made the video.
Beautiful images! ✨
Just like you,sweety...🥰
Dude ONLY 26 subscrivers?i think i deserve a few more, but you really deserve a lot more
The sun energises me. MY MAN.
Nice footage and review! By chance I found this lens in pristine condition (with leather case and sun hood, looked almost like never used) at a thrift store for just 20 bucks... when I tried it on my Sony, I was blown away by the fantastic image quality for such an old lens... it's got character, particularly when flaring, the bokeh can be quite smooth even at 3.5 and I found the lens to be pretty sharp actually with great color rendition! That it's relatively light and compact is an added bonus... the faster versions are bigger (and I bet heavier). Really a capable gem for a vintage lens! :)
Kinda just got this lens for free! Okay, not really. I went to a local shop to get a Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic with the Super-Takumar 50mm 1.4 for $150 and was surprised when the guy told me it comes with that 135mm too! Excellent pics you got! So even if I really suck at film for a while, I will still use these lenses with adapter on my EOS 7D.
I have the same Takumar lens and yes I do like it. I also have the later Pentax K mount M lens with the built in hood I use on my Pentax cameras
Great review! Just bought one of these off of eBay. Hope my pics come out half as good as yours!
Aww big thanks, I bet you're really gonna like the lens. Have you taken any good shots with it yet?
You'll love this lens!
Can the Takumar lens focus to infinity when using the M42 to Canon adapter?
i tried my super takumar 135 mm to my sony A6400 using T2-NEX cause it will fit anyway. I wonder why it wont focus to the object that I want but the lens don't have any problem I guess.I want your piece of advice..Is it not compatible w/ the mount that I used? or there is really a problem of the lens? Thank you so much ,hope you'll help me..
My favorite Takumar so far is the 24mm f3.5 Super takumar.
I love mine!!! I use it with a speedbooster on the Fuji for some dope bokeh!
Why do you photograph dope.
Hand held for these shots? What body?
Friend Nigel did video about this same lens in London where he lives....really good too....including night shots......in colour.....
That lens is great.
I have this lens and it is great. Renders differently than a modern lens. Not quite as sharp wide open.
I am late to the comments. I have this lens and about 12 other SMC Takumars for M42. They are all fun to use.
Какой из них лучший? И, вообще, расскажите о них! Заранее благодарен
That’s the super Multi Coated Takumar rather than the earlier Super Takumar. Even better when you use a hood. K mount Takumars seem to be budget lenses. It would be interesting to see how well it performed. There is an SMC Pentax-K 135mm f2.5 which is pretty special and worth chasing down. There are two 135mm f2.5 Takumars that you might try too.
Waiting on that RUclips ad revenue to come thru, so I can chase down all those variations :)
Great. But why did the lifeguard throw you out? Come to Dockweiler beach and you'll have no such problems!
btw I love the older Takumar F2.5 that also comes in M42 and you missed it. It comes in two versions, one with one more lens element and of course a lot more expensive. I doubt you can get that under $100 so this 3.5 baby rocks in that regard.
I don't know why everyone talks about the Super Takumar when the SMC varients are newer (still M42), sharper, don't cost significantly more and aren't radioactive.
Isthat a crop sensor body ? Nice pics btw
He said a "5D," and all four of those have been FF. But I might have heard wrong.
EDIT: Confirmed. He says elsewhere in the comments that he's using the 5Div. Again, that model is a full-frame.
Does it suit for full frame body?
Yes it sure does, I use it with my 5D Mark IV for this video :)
Quality images are good. Did you use vintage lens Jupiter 37A 135mm? Lens from USSR.
37й не очень резкий, изображение чуть подплывает
I paid $30 (actually $54 incl S&H & Tx from Japan) for the Super Takumar 135 F3.5 Absolute Mint Condition (not SMC version) and decided to pass on a Super Takumar 35mm F2 for now for what you just reviewed, hats off! great images and context! (FYI, in the cold I can't take my cap off due to the bald head LOL!!! its cold here in NY, seasons and all...)
Haha. Nice!! Glad you found a great deal. And thank you for the kind comments. Hope you can capture some great images with it too!
Which is better pentax 135 mm f3.5 or 135 mm f2.5 ?
I would guess the 2.5 aperture version is objectively better, especially if you plan on using in low-light situations. But in this review I used the 3.5, which is also pretty solid (and cheaper! great value buy!) -- both are good, get whichever model is speaking to you.
Tested both. Although the f3,5 is very good, the f2,5 is even better. It is sharper, especially at the edges of the frame. Also the rendering of OOF areas is outstanding. It is the best 135mm I ever tested.
Благодарю
Nice music [1:40] What's the name?
It's actually a song I recorded myself :)
@@natekates Great! Congratulations.
Wait until you get the 135mm f2.5 version.
Sometime zeiss, shneder-kroizung (best ever - all), cheap and good: Minolta 58/1.2 MC and 135/2.8MC - more better that every lenst that pentax make ;-)) some nikkor is OK - but funny, MIR is often better that nikkor - Sigma art change everything ;-))
And moder? fuji lens for GFX 45/2.8, 80/1.7 and 20-35/4 .... for FF sigma artt: 35/1.4, 135/1.8 and 24/1.4 ... all oteher is sell - special nikkor lenses ;-))
Super sad that this Ruby's is no longer :( Curse you Covid...
You must have a great eye sight
Great review thanks. 👏 but in today's environment if a man is walking on the beach taking pictures he can very well get arrested. 😂🤣
I bought one of these in Mexico for $30 dollars
