*BIG MISTAKE - The crown on the AUTO IS SCREW DOWN. It just doesn't feel like it. I completely forgot! so thats why it sticks out a bit more. Doesn't push in like a diver does and I forgot so I didn't test it. spent basically all my time on the new mechanical. sorry for the ERROR!!!!!* According to Hamilton the new h51 is a combination of modern precision and vintage-inspired charm.. I think that defines the watch as well as the movement. I'm a fan of it. after watching my review back. I noticed the auto's black chapter is shrinking the watch visually on my wrist on the far shots? hmmm. interesting. this video wasn't really a full review more of COMPARISON. What did I miss? Another great review! The new manual is awesome but I think the auto winding with black chapter ring and date complication make the auto the slight favorite for myself especially as a daily driver. Ive tried both models on and even though the auto is slightly thicker it wears thinner because of the smaller mid case and non boxed sapphire. Both models are absolutely awesome and wear great on most wrist sizes. Dont let the thickness put you off.
I would like the automatic without date and with the mechanical patina, but keep the black tachymeter for some reason to wobbly rotor feels very satisfying on my hand
Perfect timing! 😉Just been contemplating a chronograph for my collection and wasn’t even aware of the mechanical movement version, but that will be top of the list now.
I was shopping these Hamilton chronographs and this video helped SO MUCH differentiating these models. Thanks for going into all those great details. Oh, and also. Definitely the black chapter ring. Wish they made a reverse panda with the white chapter ring as well. I'll settle for the panda, LOL.
The lack of black chapter ring adds that extra vintage look and feel, and I agree with you - the ring on the auto does ‘shrink’ the dial visually. I also tend to prefer cleaner dial layouts these days. Thank you for another great review.
You're killing me! I have 2 Hamilton's and this is now on my VERY short list. I want to say that I love your reviews. Great closeups, detail, coverage and explanation of all the little nuances. Keep up the good work! Oh... and here's a vote for the clean white face of the mechanical. They are both stunners, but the mechanical white face is just classy!
Yeah I really like this mechanical one. I almost bought it about a couple weeks ago. I brought it home one more time but it's a little bit too big for my wrist.
Great review. Showing the different watches at a distance was very helpful-thank you. I was leaning toward mesh on panda, but after your video, I think I might like the black strap better.
I purchased this piece off the Jomashop. I'm really digging the Panda dial. I went with the automatic with the leather strap. I'm a melon and Valjoux 7753 man myself but I'm not sure it's antimagnetic.
09:54 I like the new section that you added (look from far) keep it in all your videos, please as usual best review in all segments great job. 👍👍👏👏👏 small advice: wear the watch as it's your own I mean like remove all stickers and size it properly and don't wear gloves I think that's what people want to see. 👍💞💞💞😇🙏
Great watch, love the look of it. It's hard to find a modern manually wound chronograph at a reasonable price, unless you buy one with a Seagull movement. My favourite complication on manually wound watches would be a power reserve indicator!
Not sure if bland is the right word but the automatic looks more interesting with the black tachymeter scale. I think the manual looks better in the reverse panda.
@ Sorry my bad, the Intra Matic 68 Chrono Auto from 2017 came in 42mm as a special edition. The pedestrian Intra Matic Chrono Auto came in 40mm (panda and reverse panda) in 2018 and is still a current model. Cheers!
No, not worth it unless you're timing an Olympic event. Sometimes a horizontal clutch could stutter in the microseconds. It's not a big deal. And for longevity vertical clutch is better wear and tear-wide. But in the end it's not a big deal. It's just bragging rights
Favourite complication? Minute repeater - that stuff is just mind blowing wizardry in the watch world. As for the comparison here, I prefer the dial of the auto. The black tachy ring actually does a great job framing the dial and actually looks a little smaller.
First I feel the automatic is the way to go with no hesitation. But mechanical some how grow on me so much, that i dont know anymore wich one to chose🤦♂️ mechanical patina with more warm cream color is calming down somewhere deep in me, it feels home, timeless. There is actualy 3 colors - patina, cream, and black. Feels more mature and grown deep because of the box crystal. Automatic feels very modern, sporty, and young - very contrasty and flat. Maybe even cheaper side by side with mecanical🤷♂️ but its striking as hell maaan🤦♂️ I will never decide🤦♂️
That’s a pretty strange preference for watch size you’ve got. It’s also a bit sad that you’re limiting yourself so much. Besides that, a 40mm watch with nearly 15mm height and 50mm lug to lug will wear larger than other 40mm watches.
@@stuartcole4845 It's just that I don't like the sight of a tiny watch on a large wrist. But I didn't know it's lug to lug length, 50 sounds fine. I just don't want it to look like jewelry on my wrist.
Why say "automatic" and "mechanical? Both movements are mechanical. One is automatic, the other one is a manual wind. Crowns don't have "teeth." They have knurling.
I can buy a Timex panda and save me qite abit of money or if you want a mechanical checkout the Expedition North Field Mechanical 38mm Eco-Friendly Leather Strap windup sapphire crystal

I would like the mechanical with the dial of the automatic
Totally agree
Mee too
Totally opposite for me. I wanted to see an automatic with dial of the mechanical.
Agree. The mechanical is too plain.
I would like the automatic without date and with the mechanical patina, but keep the black tachymeter
for some reason to wobbly rotor feels very satisfying on my hand

Perfect!

Glad I could help!
The black outer rim on the automatic really adds a nice touch of contrast, making it look a lot better.
The lack of black chapter ring adds that extra vintage look and feel, and I agree with you - the ring on the auto does ‘shrink’ the dial visually.
I also tend to prefer cleaner dial layouts these days.
Thank you for another great review.
I prefer the black chapter ring on the automatic. I do like the mechanical better in black though.
Great comparison
Love the distance wrist shots, it gives a good idea how it will look.
This panda is on my wish list.
Yes, almost no one gets this right who does video watch content. It's actually shocking.

I would choose the mechanical one to wind it everyday and feel more connected to my watch.

Glad you like them! Those take a lot of extra time to do haha so they are not in all videos sorry!
Definitely feeling the Mechanical vibe without the black ring around the dial.
yeah cleannnnn
I really like the wrist shots in this video it really goes to show the true size of the watch. It wears well on you btw.
Glad you like them!
Great watch, love the look of it. It's hard to find a modern manually wound chronograph at a reasonable price, unless you buy one with a Seagull movement. My favourite complication on manually wound watches would be a power reserve indicator!
Interesting PR pick. Yeah this one is very compelling the longer I had it on the wrist the more I wanted to pull the trigger
Hi Falling, I was about to pull the trigger on the Blue intra matic, but what change my mind was I found the Pushers too long .
ahh i can see that. you like the compact style like the britling preimere
@@EscapementWatch yes something like that or the Daytona
Not sure if bland is the right word but the automatic looks more interesting with the black tachymeter scale. I think the manual looks better in the reverse panda.
Fair enough!
The automatic looks beautiful but a bit busy for me.
This chrono is my second favorite watch from Hamilton behind the khaki field auto
GMT is my fave complication. So practical.
Nice one
Really like the 🐼 Thinking about getting one as a weekend fun watch. Definitly going to try it.
A nice chrono for sure, I appreciate your passion for horology. Great job FT, my favorite complication is perpetual calendar.
Ohhh very nice choice Frank
Awesome review 👍🏽👍🏽 Mechanical looks nice with a chain and automatic looks nice with a strap. Still confused which one to choose
Great review 🌹 please review new hamilton jazzmaster auto with nivachron hairspring
I will try to get a hold of it.
@@EscapementWatch tnx alot 🌹🌹🌹
My dream watch!
Dive bezel is my favorite feature
Im a big fan of Seinfeld. Love the shirt!!
Superb production in every way - Thank you, sir!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The Hamilton Auto reminds me of a vintage bi-compax Seiko 6138-8020 Panda. A look that I like.
So true
I thought the auto was 42mm?
Did they make them in both 40 and 42mm?
I'm not sure if there is a 42mm but I know they made the auto in 40mm

Dude the Vandelay shirt! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Man that's a tuff choice!
How much more is a vertical clutch, is it worth it?
No, not worth it unless you're timing an Olympic event. Sometimes a horizontal clutch could stutter in the microseconds. It's not a big deal. And for longevity vertical clutch is better wear and tear-wide. But in the end it's not a big deal. It's just bragging rights
@@EscapementWatch OK thanks much. 👍👍
The Mesh Strap is a sweet touch 👌🏽
Btw...I Dig your Watch Coaster. Where can I get??
It is the uncle Seiko watch coaster set they're awesome
Excellent comparison
Mechanical on leather for me. Although I do like the auto versions as well, especially the blue dialed one
Favourite complication? Minute repeater - that stuff is just mind blowing wizardry in the watch world.
As for the comparison here, I prefer the dial of the auto. The black tachy ring actually does a great job framing the dial and actually looks a little smaller.
Absolutely minute repeater phenomenal pick
The automatic looks better and I really like that it has a date at 6
Beyond chuffed to own this

Intramatic vs bigeye, whats your favourite?
BIG EYE
Love the shirt. I want one. The watch is nice too. Lol
Glad you like it
Vintage mechanical ftw
I’ll take the “rounded thick bottom” over a “flat bottom” any day😂 oh wait a minute what are talking ‘bout?😂😂😂😂😂
ahahaha
The mechanical looks bigger because the dial is all one color. Interesting.
👍nice review
Such a good looking watch but too small for my 18 cm wrist :(
That’s a pretty strange preference for watch size you’ve got. It’s also a bit sad that you’re limiting yourself so much. Besides that, a 40mm watch with nearly 15mm height and 50mm lug to lug will wear larger than other 40mm watches.

Mechanical for sure, the automatic looks too busy. A but sportier if you will, the mechanical looks better with the mesh bracelet.
The dial isn’t white, it’s more vanilla, and panda and tachymeter band aren’t black. They are more dark navy blue.
Such an underrated and beautiful Hamilton 😍
Couldn't agree more!
Love the automatic !
beauty!
I just don’t have a use for a Chrono.
You can see the cost cutting in mechanical version
Why say "automatic" and "mechanical? Both movements are mechanical. One is automatic, the other one is a manual wind. Crowns don't have "teeth." They have knurling.
Which do you prefer ?
@@khoocheepeng I prefer an automatic over a manual wind simply for convenience.
Side by side, the mechanical looks underwhelming!
The automatic has more pop and presence on the dial!
Maybe my video didn't show it well. In real life it's so clean and looks fantastic.
Awesome watch....Amplitude would have been just over 300 ifthe Chrono wasn't running during the test!
Good call!
VINTAGE ALL THE WAY
looks like they put a watch strap on a stop watch,to thick to wear on the wrist PASS
