The series "Magnificent Century" introduced Hurrem Sultan, the beloved wife of Sultan Suleiman, to viewers all over the world. For centuries, people have been talking about their legendary love story.
Hurrem Sultan had a lot of influence in the Ottoman Empire. However, the sultana that came after her was even more powerful. She achieved things that the beloved of Sultan Suleiman couldn't.
Her name was Kosem.
Kosem Sultan left a mark in the history of the Ottoman Empire history as one of the most influential figures of the "female sultanate." She remained in power for almost thirty years. Europeans remember Hurrem Sultan, but the Turks consider Kosem to be the most compelling woman.
Her little grandson "Mehmed IV" saved the dynasty but not the empire.

It's not difficult to understand Kasem's name was Anastasia she was bought as a gift to Ahmed Sultan Who had a brother called Mustafaa and was named the crazy sultan She gave him four sons Mohamad Morada kasim Ibrahim When ahmed died They put his brother On the throne so that Ahmed oldest son osman don't take the throne Because she was scared that he's going to kill her sons and he killed one of them which was named mohamad
When mustafa took the throne he was obviously mad and his people Noticed it So they put Osman on throne after him but he failed in one of the wars that made his subject mad at him so kosem took this opportunity and because of the anger of the subject osman wasDethroned and Mustapha came back to the throne again and then he got a Dethrone because he was mad and then Mourad Kosem second son Which was 12 years old took the throne and because she was so small of an age Kosem ruled the empire behind the scene until he got in age

Correct,it is simply out of a reason that Hurrem Sultan did not exert direct power through regency. Kösem Sultan as a regent had a direct power in her own hands and that is why is her story historicly more difficult then that of Hurrem.

what Magnificent Century:Kosem better than Magnificent Century was that there were real power struggles in kosem's period. Magnificent Century had to created many Sultan sisters to fight with Hurrem and make Suleiman looks stupid...especially between Ibrahim s death and the debut of Nurbanu. Actually Suleiman's sisters could not fight Hurrem, that was just to expand the length of series
Yes, I totally agree with you. As a Turk who studied history at university, I hate Magnificent Century. This series is full of lies and does not reflect the real history. The screenwriters made up a lot of things to make the series longer and exciting. Sultan Suleiman's sisters never fought with Hürrem Sultan.

Because they are two different periods of history. There was a lot of power struggle in Kosem's time but not in Suleiman's time. The Sultans in Kosem's time were very weak and they were constantly being killed and replaced. Suleiman was one of the most powerful Sultan who ruled the longest of any other Sultan. Your comparison is really confusing.

6:00 there were 3 reasons why the brother of the Sultan was spared. Before him, there were two Sultans who spent too much time in the Harum, to the point they had too many heirs. The Sultan before the two brothers had 19 brothers, and all 19 were executed at once. The public outcry from this is what led to the end of the tradition of executions of spares.
Ironically, the woman that would replace our moonface sultana became the last one to have such power, and she only had power for 5 years. Meaning that women's influenced died the moment she had her mother in law executed

Impressive work, more accurate than Hurrem episode (which was based on TV drama ). There are some minor mistakes and debatable subjects but it is okay. She is without a doubt most powerful woman in Ottoman history.

Kosem Sultan ruled the Ottoman Empire only 16 years, not 30 years. [9 years during the Murad IV period (1623-1632), 4 years during the Ibrahim I period (1640-1644) and finally 3 years during the Mehmed IV period (1648-1651)].
After 1632, Murad IV never allowed Kosem Sultan to interfere in government affairs. Likewise, during the reign of Ibrahim I, Kosem Sultan ruled the Ottoman empire with Kemankes Kara Mustafa Pasha for 4 years. After 1644, Ibrahim I removed Kosem Sultan from the state administration and had Kemankes Kara Mustafa Pasa executed.
ibrahim was op when kemankes ruled the empire, he won krits and was really good. but after kemankes's death, ibrahim became ill and history remembers him as one of the worst

In 1644, Sultan İbrahim had Kemankesh Kara Mustafa Pasha executed, and soon, under the influence of his favorite concubines, he expelled Kösem Sultan from the palace and exiled her to the İskender Çelebi Garden. Therefore, Kösem Sultan could not interfere in state affairs.

I am from Turkey and I know my history better than you because I studied history at university. Kösem could not be regent in the second period of İbrahim's reign. The first 4 years of Ibrahim's reign were very successful because Kemankesh Kara Mustafa Pasha, a successful grand vizier, and experienced Kösem ruled the empire. But the last four years of his reign were full of failures because Kösem did not act as regent. Ibrahim ruled the empire badly, and in 1648 a rebellion broke out and he was deposed and executed. After 1644, Kösem has no influence because Ibrahim was blocking her.

I think it will be a good idea to make such a cartoon about Safiye Sultan- she was powerful, clever and cunning. She's also right in the middle of the Sultanate of Women timewise. We have series about Hurrem and Kosem, but Safiye's story is just as remarkable- you why don't you make one (but include her whole and REAL life, not what we saw in the TV-series)?

Valide kosem sultan, strongest sultana ever existed, stronger than any sultana ever lived and any sultan during her era. There wasn't anyone stronger as far as she was alive, truly amazing for a woman of that era! Too bad Murad didn't listen anymore... That was his fault and payed. Valide kosem sultan kept her titles even when her grandson ascended, leaving the poor Turhan limited and ignored in harem. Three times regent, three times valide sultan, for first and last time. It makes sense that way why the statesmen killed kosem (Turhan never ordered anything, that was a lie to give her status).
Turhan Sultan ordered Kösem Sultan's death. The power struggle between Kösem Sultan and Turhan Sultan was even included in the reports of the Spaniards. The Spaniards were watching the Ottoman Empire very carefully. There is a document from 1650 in the Spanish archives. The document contains some intelligence information about the state of the Ottoman Empire. The Spaniards wrote that Kösem Sultan and Turhan Sultan were fighting for power, that a faction formed in the palace and that the ambitions of these two women could collapse the empire.

I can't allow you distort a historical fact as true as the law of gravity. It is a historical fact that Turhan Sultan and Kösem Sultan were fighting for power and when Kösem Sultan wanted to dethrone Mehmed IV in order to neutralize Turhan Sultan, Turhan Sultan and Suleiman Agha killed Kösem Sultan. We don't just read about this fact in the most reliable history books. Even European states have written this information in their reports. Spanish archives contain very detailed information. I cannot allow you to give false information to people.

Kosem was not the 1st to get the right of Regency. It was actually her mother-in-law Handan sultan
I think Hürrem Sultana could have achieved everything that Kösem achieved but she didn’t because she wasn’t greedy as kösem. Hurrem sultan just wanted her children to be secured and wanted one of her sons to be the next Sultan that’s it. Where as kosem was power greedy... she even got over her own sons for power and authority which isn’t impressive at all🤷
