Just the information I've been looking for. This cleared up so much confusion. I've been trying this serum and that oil, etc. I'm on prescription Azelaic acid and Tretinoin. I have been irritating my skin by adding this and that, only to think I'm helping with anti aging. I'm 63 and still break out, they tell me from rosacea. Thank you so much! So glad I found you.
Dr. Sam a big thank you to Wayne Goss for mentioning you in his video on your eye cream. Your videos are beyond excellent, love the simplicity of your approach, and you are sooo good at teaching. You are well versed in knowledge which gives us so much confidence. I listen to you every day, I’m a avid skin care lover since grade school and I can say it shows since I’m now 72. So ladies take the time to develop a discipline of care for your skin, only positive results are sure to come
This was so good, so useful because I have all these products that I bought out of excitement of getting into a good skincare routine but been struggling to understand the order of layering. Really helpful content, thank you so much :)
Very helpful topic, thank you! Another helpful top would be copper peptides in skincare for acne blemish recovery/healing and any other potential benefits or shortcomings.
Shella Bella I only just received it. It is a very watery solution so I have been applying it directly after I have cleansed my skin. I plan to alternate the copper (Deciem 1%) and the niacinamide (Paula’s Choice 10%). I am hopeful Dr. will provided a video or reply-always concerned about actives and skin application and possible adverse outcomes.
Tina Hu Thank you for your response. I agree and that’s how I’ve been using it. My main concern is diluting the efficacy of Tretinoin by first using the copper peptide.
Shella Bella I agree with you. I use Refissa and have the same concern. There really is no other way to apply it effectively other then to simply use it in the morning-Refissa efficacy is a concern. The copper would simply roll off of my face in the case of Refissa as would Paula’s Choice niacinamide.
Thank you for the video Dr Bunding! Layering skincare has always been a bit of an issue with people when applying. It can be mind-boggling, especially for beginners that have no idea what product to choose first. We have to admit that there are soooo many skincare products out there (great because you have much to choose from but it can also make it difficult to know what to purchase and where does that product fit in ones skincare routine.) I tell people to make it simple at the beginning, and then add on as they go along if they wish too. Yes, you are right, there is sometimes some trial and error, everyone's skin is different. Appreciate all that information. You look great too!!
Thanku soo mch doc!! Amazing video.. i have watched many videos on acids and skin care n layering bt nobody explained things as simply n clearly as u did..👍
Thank you for always such good content. I've been binging your videos! Just one little Q: at night, retinol and niacinamine, which one first? and how long would it be better to wait between applying them? thank you :)
Thanks Dr Sam for the great insight about layering ingredients. I am interested in knowing more about milia care routine. I have around eyes and on top area of cheeks. I would appreciate if you would have a video on this as well.
I use a OTC retinol with a Vitamin C serum combined at night. I'll use a niacinamide moisturizer in the morning. Always a SPF 40 sunscreen if going out for the day.
This is 100% the video I was looking for. You mentioned all the kinds of products I just purchased and just cleared up the order I need to be using them. Thank you thank you thank you 🙏
Loved this video! It’s exactly what has been on my mind of late! Very informative thanks! I had been using niacimide in the am but good to know to use it after retin-a on an eve, thanks! I’d love an updated video of your current favourite moisturisers for all different skin types please!
This video was so helpful! As always, thank you for sharing your brilliance. Would you be willing to do a video on the top vitamin C products you like?
So very informative...as usual. I totally agree with keeping it simple! In the past I used 3-4 serums morning and evening, together with Tretinoine pm...my skin could not cope :( so I omitted most of the serums and oils and my skin has no irritation now!
10:35 can you explain what stabilizing techniques these days help to eliminate the complexation of Niacinamide en Ascorbic Acid? Would be interesting to hear more about. Because when I mix Paula's Choice 10% Niacinamide with the Paula's Choice C15 I still see the yellow Niacinamide Ascorbate forming...
I’m so happy listening to you and I’m learning important tools about skin care. All I can say it is very important to take care your skin as early as possible regardless age. Everyone should listen this video and follow the important steps as a prevention so you can always enjoy your beautiful skin as you age.
I have sensitive skin and am 31. Just start out small and make sure you only use it every three days at first because your skin will need to build a tolerance to it (I learned this lesson the hard way!)
Hi! I love your videos! I'm confused about something I hope you could give your opinion or knowledge on: I've come across a lot of people saying that when it comes to products with active ingredients that are ph dependant such as acids, vitamin c, retinols, niacinamide etc, you need to wait about 30 min before you apply another product on top of that for it to work optimal. Because if you immediately go in with a moisturizer, or layer a vitamin c on top of AHA, you change the ph in your skin too soon and the active ingredients won't be as effective as it would if you waited for your skin to go back to its normal ph level by itself first. Is that true? A lot of skincare junkies seem to swear by this meanwhile Paula Begoun says you don't need to wait between products if they are well formulated..
New to your channel and I am a fan already. I have learn so much! I am going to review my skincare regimen after washing this video. Thank you so much. You are beautiful and your skin is beautiful too.
Which acid can be combined with vitamin c , in the morning, for pigmentation problems? Is it not too much using acids in the morning and tretinoin at night? Thank you 😊
Great video - what about peptides in the moisturizer with niacinimide used with a retinoid at night? Do peptides impede anything? Or do they just act as humectants?
Can you please comment on the difference between epaderm and cerave and if they are good moisturisers for the ceramides? Thanks a lot, btw, I recently found your channel and working my way through all the videos hehe
Could you please reply for this question, I have hyperpigmentation ( maleasma) and was wondering if I should use a toner in my morning routine before Alpha aburtin and Azealuc acid 10% (both from Ordinary) or in my night routine with retinoid ( The Ordinart Retinoid 2% granactive ) and then finish it with nicanamide and moisturiser?? The toner is from ole henriksen dark spot toner Please do reply it would be great help Thank you
Hi I love your videos, can you please make one about hydroquinone or kojic acid or arbutin. Which one is the best for lightening dark spots and how should we use them. Thank you
I personnally apply my 30% glycolic acid at night after cleansing and then i layer the Ordinary 5% in Squalane... i do not have irritation but i built up my tolerance. I would not feel comfortable using my glycolic acid in the morning... it cured my acne. Two rounds of Accutane did not completely clear my skin, this routine did. In the morning, micellar water, vitamin C serum, and a moisturizing Spf.
Thank you for this video but i'm confused now about toner application after Vitamin C. I've always toned with either P50V or Pixi Glow Tonic and then vitamin c serum after that. Should that sort of toner be going on after the Vitamin C? Sometimes I use Azelac but find it very strong so only put that on my tzone.
i would start with one and see how it goes. then if that goes well or if you feel like you aren’t seeing enough results then slowly introduce the other into your routine. many people can’t handle that much exfoliation so i personally wouldn’t use them both in one day, but it depends on the individual!! it is possible to overexfoliate(which i have done) and trust me you do not want that. just to be safe you should alternate days at first.
Such a good video. I have seen comments on other channels from residents in the UK who say they cannot get tretinoin in the UK uless it is mixed with an antibiotic. This seems quite strange. Do they mean that they cannot get it covered by health care insurance or do they mean it that just tretinoin by itself is not legal and therefore not dispensed in the UK?
Palladio 747 Basically, in the UK it is only available on prescription; however with our Health Service you are highly unlikely to get a prescription from a general Doctor, therefore as dermatologists are not seen as readily as in the US you would need to make an appointment to see a dermatologist privately, which are costly, for them to possibly prescribe RetinA. Dr Sam is far too modest to say, but she works in Private practice in London, and most of her clients are probably extremely wealthy.
Angela Davies I feel your pain. We need a prescription for tretinoin in the US as well and, as you say, most GPs will no longer choose to cross into the specialties. If, and it's a big if, you have insurance coverage here you can see a dermatologist with a co-pay for a specialists. So many can only afford catastrophic medical insurance which can have a deductible in the thousands so basically you would have to incur the cost of a visit with a derm. out of your own pocket. Then if you do get a prescription, most insurance wont cover tretinoin for those under 35 because they only pay for people with acne and they use 35 as a cutoff age for people having acne. You obviously have a lot of barriers that make it difficult to be able to get a script and then get it filled. I only brought up Dr Sam as a reference to tretinoin being available when people were saying you couldnt get it in the UK. Apparently, just like here in the US, you can get it IF you can afford it. Grrrrrr.........
There are derms that say studies show using your retinoid AFTER moisturizer doesn't reduce the efficacy and it much less harsh on the skin. This is from 2 yrs so maybe there's an updated version of this.
Hello! I’m new to your channel and found this video very helpful. I would appreciate your opinion on DMAE. I have been using it in the morning after my my vitamin c.
Hi, Greetings from Sudan.. I have been following you since a while now, I have followed some of your advices like starting using Retinol serum and Niacinamide.. but still facing big pores and pigmentation.. do u have other advices for me .. Thanks..
Thanks! That’s been really helpful. I have a question about Retinol and how to build up a tolerance to it. Are there certain types of retinol that you would recommend as a beginners retinol? Also, if I’ve been using Azelaic Acid daily with no negative side affects, would you still expect sensitivity and purging by adding in a retinol?
Thanks for a great video. I find that my acne has cleared completely now that I use skinoren. I use it in the morning after vitamin c. Can I also use it at night after tretinoin? Before or after niacinamide?
Those with dry skin, or in winter, do you have to cleanse in the morning? Is there any benefit to keeping your night time oils in place and adding spf over the top?
Hi Sam, great video, as always! I know you did a prior video on perioral dermatitis but I wonder if you’d kindly do another with more detail on the cosmetics you’d expunge. I’m on limecycline and azalaic acid, but the limecycline seems to have caused new pustules and cysts on my chin. I work with patients too so I feel I have to put my best face forward so to speak! This means I do feel I need to use some makeup but I’m loathe to aggravate things further. Any help would be great and I’m sure very useful to a lot of us bumpy faced folk! Much love x
I use a primer and it helped me kind of make a barrier between my pimples to the makeup to not aggravate my skin further (or primer with salicylic acid). Also, pimple patches (do not completely cover but great to make the pimples less apparent and to not touch your face or just have the pimple react with anything. Just the simple hydrocellulose ones are great. I also has a weird trick that I use a rosy blush all over to hide that my cheeks are red, make me have the "out in the sun" look that is in my opinion better than - red bumpy skin.
Hello everyone, Just a question i use niacinamide as serum on morning and azelaic acid on night (i have pretty bad roscea). Can i use both in the morning routine bfore spf. does acide azelaic and niacinamide can work together ?
ergoris Ursus Hi, just letting you know Azelaic Acid & Niacinamide can be used together in a routine. When I was pregnant this was the routine I was on for my acne & hyperpigmentation by my dermatologist. Hope that helps!
