Just found your channel and had a marathon viewing session whilst i'm meant to be working from home. Hoping to do more of the ulster way this year. I've been trying to finish my own challenge of juggling 5 balls on the top of every peak in the mourne mountains and vlogging as i go :) . Subscribed and looking forward to future videos.

I’m so excited to see you’re doing some of the Ulster way! I’ve not been to Cuilcagh yet but it’s on my list so this video is inspiring me to go now🌿

Interesting to see the approach to Cuilcagh from that side. Nice video, well done.

      Thanks!
I’ve also heard that the approach from the sloping shoulder is quite nice! However , I think we’ve been up and around Cuilcagh enough for the time being 😂

Nice to see the Ulster Way getting some screen time. Although I live in Donegal I've walked very little of it. Spotted a great patch on your bag? Little hiking man. Can these be purchased online?

Yes super happy to have started the Ulster Way. Going to chip at it for the next year probably!
And the little patch was made for me as a birthday present! I really love it. Have been thinking about making our own patches to sell for the different trails, only in the thinking about stage tho ☺️

Great to see you guys back walking and smiling! Trying to follow your route, can't find your starting point, did you say Clanna Glen? ... doesn't appear on Google Maps. I s there a map showing your route? Thanks for sharing what appears to be a lovely walk. Take care.

      Hi!
      Ah thank you so much!
We started at Claddagh Glen outside of Blacklion/Belcoo. In a couple of days I’ll have a blog post written about it too which will have maps, and I’ll link that to you then ☺️

Hello again! So our own maps still aren't ready to share yet. Our blog about the trail will be out next week and have some more general details - however here are maps made by Walk NI - www.toughsoles.ie/s/Florencecourt-to-Belcoo-All-Maps.pdf
      Hope that helps!

You mentioned there wasn't camping. Do you mean, designated camping spots, or just no good camping, or are you not allowed to camp along the trail. I am hoping to come over in March and do the Coast to Coast trail, and then some random trails ( Any suggestions on good ones are welcome.). I just finished up the big 3 in the US but don't know the rules in Ireland about camping. On the US trails, I mostly camp in the woods, and go into town every 3-6 days to resupply with food. I was hoping I could do the same in Ireland (It's much less expensive.). Btw, that climb looked rough, that grass going up that steep a climb looked treacherous! haha

@Timothy Thanks, yep stealth camping is the norm in a lot of places I've hiked, with the same rules applying.

Could I just say that Ellie's white hoodie thing , though no doubt very good and effective, looks disturbingly like a hazmat suit? Maybe a sign of the times :) That looked a challenging enough ascent with the bog factor thrown in as well.

    • @ToughSoles
      @ToughSoles  2 года назад +1

To be honest, I feel like I look like an egg in it 😂
But I can also see the hazmat now that you’ve pointed it out! I wonder how long it will remain this shade of white too, Irish bogs are not that forgiving 😅

Did this trail and oh boy, it is difficult, all the bogs and then the final climb, I am experienced hiker, but this was the steepest climb I did.
I don't think it is coincidence that Cuilcagh is 666 meters high ;).
Anyway, beautiful trail, but not for beginners.

Glad we weren’t the only ones blown away by that climb! And yeah I agree, experience required ☺️

Only for our driveway! We'd never be on public roads without a seat belt - unless we were walking them, I suppose...
