These sound great in all 3 tuning ranges, but the one where they really open is at the low and mid range. Excellent demo, both sound and playing wise 👍
Sounds great. Great demo of the snare. I got one of these on the way in Blue Oyster Pearl to pair with a '68 Super Classic Blue Oyster kit. Can't wait!
@@CoomerGremlinDGGfan The jazz festival snare drum is a 3 ply mahogany poplar mahogany shell with maple re-rings, just like the 60s version that Ringo had. His drums were 3 ply super classic maple poplar maple drums. His first kits were downbeat sizes, and mid way he changed to the super classic 13-16-22..
Sounds so good already have the Ludwig Downbeat kit trying to decide on to buy the Jazz Festival snare (that costs a lot more) or get the maple snare, any help. Thanks
T.S. Tatum do you have a Legacy Downbeat kit or a Classic Maple? Cause the Jazz Fest fits the Legacy kits like a hand fits in a custom glove, but the Classic Maple snares have a much more modern sound (wider snare beds and sharper bearing edges) than the Jazz Fest snares. It’s just horses for courses at that point. But I will say that I really love the Jazz Fest.
Thanks so much for getting back with me, I have the classic maple in orange mod, I didn’t know that about the difference you really helped me, thanks again T.
@@2112percussion_Hey Ryan that was some funky nasty groovy playin sir. All 3 tunings were tasty. I usually learn towards higher tuned drums... but that low tuning gave me stank face. Lol. Those drums are also beautiful.
In this video, you're listening to a pair of 15" Paiste 602 Modern Essentials Hats, a 20" Zildjian Avedis, and an etched-logo 22" Paiste Traditional Light Ride.
@@2112percussion_ Hey man help!!! I am in between a USA Custom Maple kit from Gretsch or this mahogany kit from Ludwig in Mod Orange...I wish I could drop both kits into my studio and see which sounds best...My heart wants the mahogany kit but my studio is a completely dead space, I guess I'm just worried the warm mellow mahogany kit won't pop as much in there, can you help me decide or am I just splitting hairs at this point? I'm upgrading finally to an acoustic kit from my Roland which I have used for years : /
@@jarcidiacono1 I think you're at the point where only your personal taste is going to help you make your decision. The Legacy Mahogany are super warm, and soft, where the Gretsch are more open and have more attack. Either one will be more fun to play than a Roland!

EXCELLENT DEMO!!
Ringo used these in 1964 in Black Oyster Pearl.
Still sound Fab today.
We're they made of mahogany back then?

Really nice tone in the high tuning range.

I prefer the mid tuning range on these.

As good as a Ludwig gets on the snare and the Legacy….best for the money, unique quality……nice drumming….too.

Less snare...more of the other drums
