Love mahogany...starting to prefer the smaller kits these days.
Easier to carry around, as you get older.!
Ludwig and Gretsch...you can’t go wrong.

This is a fantastic kit and great playing from Steve as always. But for my ears these drums have too much power for jazz. Gretsch drums are not so wide open and powerful, and they are a bit more focused. Correct me if I'm wrong.

+stevemaxwelldrums *This Ludwig®/Conn-Selmer kit looks an ideal candidate for a rather unusual EVANS®/D'Addario® set-up* with PureSound®/D'Addario® snare unit: Dual CT12S rack, dual CT14S floor, CT14S/S14H20/T1420 snare, dual BD18CT kick.

That sound is more from 3ply as from wood!!! Play a birch 3 ply and a 6 or mor ply mahogany with 7 -8mm that have not thay sound!!! The vintage secret is that 3ply!!!! You can ply birch, mahogany, maple, popular ...all sound fatt, warm, and deep!!!! ...3ply!!! Thats it! Sad that the moste build so thik shalls
