just bought a second hand 2019 Stelvio QV, but also looked at X3 M40i and X3M. Key points: 1) In my country Stelvio is A LOT cheaper both new and used compared to X3 M/M Comp. The slight difference in performance in favor of BMW X3M Comp does not justify aprox 20k euro price hike. I don't drag race, so plus/minus 0.4s is irrelevant. 2) Stelvio used is ~ same price as a used X3 M40i, but is faster, sounds better and is more of a head-turner than the BMW. It has a lot more personality, you feel good driving it. 3) After installing a cheap Squadra dongle, the Stelvio can sound like in Race Mode in any other mode and at basically any speed, making it very fun to drive around (safely). From the outside it sounds ridiculously good. Sadly, the BMWs sound pretty dull in comparison. 4) Contrary to folklore, QVs aren't generally unreliable. Like with any car brand, there will be occasional duds, which tend to get a lot of publicity. I've done my research and overall reliability seems good. The critical thing is choosing a second hand example with good history and preferably not from the first batch of 2018. TLDR: X3M Comp is slightly quicker, but Stelvio is cheaper and has more personality.
Owned two Stelvio Quads and reliability has not been an issue. Got the dreaded phantom engine light once that resolved itself after 3 starts. No other issues.
I also went for the Stelvio QV, would change mine for a X3M LCI but to be honest it lacks soul, unlike the old M4 I had, F82… Would consider the GLC 63S as at least that sounds good as well
That BMW engine is so potent, even with the extra 200 kilos it's still quicker. You can't beat the inline 6 configuration, from old skool JDM, RB26, 2JZ and this s58 an absolute gem.Only downside in the long run is the over use of plastics under that bonnet.Great comparison, keep em coming.

Definitely wins in the looks and sound department. Just wish they had a bit better technology options like a 360 back up camera, hud, infotainment system in general could use an update especially considering it’s around 95k usd msrp. Although I don’t see many selling at sticker cost. Lots of 2022 models available around the US with low mileage
Interesting that the new X3M did get a mid to high 3s. I have a 21' model and on the second launch I managed a 3.8s to 100km/h. I noticed that launch control can now launch in automatic mode. I can only activate launch control in manual mode. Anyway awesome videos as always 👍
Different conditions, different fuel quality, different altitude can all influence times. Our tests are not designed to represent the absolute best-ever possible times. We do these so you can compare consistent (and in reasonably controlled conditions) real-world times between different cars that we test. Interestingly we notice we got 4.00sec exactly in the 2020 X3 M Comp model. Thanks for watching 😀

@BMW Car - Bike you'd have to ask them I remember a few cars I've owned when they were released as they made changes to the software platform they update it. Eg being able to launch in the same mode as this one etc
The Stelvio's issue as mentioned by many reviewers is that it oddly doesn't offer launch control. I really feel it would be neck and neck with the bimmer or even just edge it if it had this feature, and it's disappointing, particularly in the price range. I'd still take a Grand Cherokee trackhawk over both of them, honest. Also there is no way I am doing faux suede at 200 grand. Yes it breathes better but it's ridiculously hard to keep clean and I can't understand why anyone would want it over leather.
Technology is pretty dated as well. The macan gts and x3m offer a lot better technology. I was very interested in a stelvio. They drive great. But I didn’t like how the fixed paddle shifters kinda block the turn signal. A few times while driving I’d go to hit the turn signal and accidentally down shift. Also didn’t like fairly basic tech features in 100k sport SUV’s like a 360 degree backup camera isn’t offered. I know Alfa’s are very much driver focused vehicles and I love the heritage of the brand but I found the other options much more viable as daily drivers. Stelvio almost feels too raw for a performance suv

BMW S58 engine was recalled due to a big defect (main shell bearing); X3/X4 also made in the USA and known for poor paint. BMW AU also offers the lowest warranty amongst Germans. Disgraceful.
Definitely not your guys best outing. The X3M looks miles better than the pizza slice grille Stelvio. Far more agressive with sharper styling and lines. It’s also quicker and besides the upshift on gears sounds better. You didn’t engage the LC properly in the Beemer either yet it still beat the Alfa 😂
The looks is very relative, for me the Stelvio looks better and have more elegant lines than the X3M who looks like a brick, in terms of sound once again i prefer the Stelvio who have a Raw sound and i love the gear changes in that car! In terms of performance, yes the BMW is faster, this car came to the market in 2021 and Stelvio was in 2018... and the claimed power by BMW to this engines is very conservative, this cars on the dyno puts out 545hp and 700NM of torque! And i forgot to mention the steering rack of the Giulia and Stelvio is lightening fast with a 11,9:1 rack ratio and is the lightest car in that SUV segment who translates in a very fun car to drive! In the lauch the Alfa din't do their best too because in Carwow channel this car do 11,8 seconds in 1/4 mile... Btw both cars are great machines and extremely capable! ✌️

Interesting that the Alfa is alot more powerful than the Civic Type R but is 1 sec slower than the it around the Nurburgring. The Alfa was the fastest SUV around the Nurburgring and can't beat the Civic, and the Civic is no supercar.

I was in love with my Giulia and Alfa Romeo as a brand, however, I will never again buy/recommend another Alfa Romeo in my life. I had the brake by wire system fail on me and it caused me to crash and total the car. They sent someone from Bosch to diagnose the vehicle and in the charts it clearly showed that something malfunctioned (brakes were slammed 2 seconds before the impact at 40 MPH and it took more than 1.5 seconds for the speed to start going down.) Stellantis told me that they were not going to take responsibility for it and that I needed to have my insurance pay for the vehicle. Absolute garbage. I will never recommend this car brand to anyone again! Buy an AUDI, BMW or Mercedes instead. In this instance, go with the BMW!
Wow! That bad luck man! The brake by wire system is developed by Continental, called Continental MK1 and now Audi is starting to using it too... I have a Giulia since 2016(and a BMW since 2018) and the car is fantastic! Before the Alfa i had a VW Passat TDi 130hp and that car don't leave me good memories, i had a blown engine and a lot of eletrical problems... like you, i don't recomend a VW to anyone, i spend a lot of money in that car!

Good thing those are older cars and the other manucaturers no longer use them in those vehicles though. alfa, however, continues to use them even in their newer cars. It blows my mind.

Stellantis told me that they were not going to take responsibility for it and that I needed to have my insurance pay for the vehicle. Absolute garbage. I will never recommend this car brand to anyone again! Buy an AUDI, BMW or Mercedes instead. In this instance, go with the BMW!
Wow! That bad luck man! The brake by wire system is developed by Continental, called Continental MK1 and now Audi is starting to using it too... I have a Giulia since 2016(and a BMW since 2018) and the car is fantastic! Before the Alfa i had a VW Passat TDi 130hp and that car don't leave me good memories, i had a blown engine and a lot of eletrical problems... like you, i don't recomend a VW to anyone, i spend a lot of money in that car!
@@Brunoperes_88 I hear they're only using it on the E-tron models. I haven't seen anything else regarding their other vehicles. Thank God! The system is terrible if you ask me. Glad you only had a blown engine and not a braking failure that totaled your car though. Trust me...braking failures are not fun. Takre care!
@@aaronc1500 unfortunately your case is not insulated, also BMW had a similar problem in their brakes in some cars betwen 2012 and 2014 models, in the bimmerpost vlog i see some guys who experinced this terrible nightmare, i can't imagine the horror of smash the brakes and nothing happening... 😱
@@Brunoperes_88 It's a terrible thing! Companies need to stay away from electronic brakes. The technology isn't ready for mass distribution, in my opinion. Good thing those are older cars and the other manucaturers no longer use them in those vehicles though. alfa, however, continues to use them even in their newer cars. It blows my mind.
@@aaronc1500 this are 8 to 10 year cars, it's a bit older but for example in my country alot of people buy cars with that age, but talking about what happen in your accident, it's strange you loose completely the brakes, this system alows you to brake even if the eletromecanical primary braking fails... i see it in the official Continental website!
