As always excellent work. In case you were not aware of it, 2 weeks ago Donnie (Baker Airguns) shot the Avenger in Central Ohio Benchrest competition. He came in 8 out of 21 in class. (I beat him @ 5th 😉). He beat a bunch of people shooting $2000 and up guns with his stock 22.

Holy crap. Was this like “stock stock” out of the box? I wondered about this. I always thought, these things keep tight groups. My Umerex Fusion will just about drop a bullet into a bullet at 20-30 yrds with the Crossman Premiums, I think, haven’t shot that one in a while. That’s using those air rifle targets with the, maybe 1/8” dots. No wind. I figured with some finagling I could get that out of my Gauntlet or the Avenger when I get that. I wasn’t sure that would be good enough to compete. Found a club in So Cal. Gonna see what they got scheduled out.

Haha wish I had noticed this before ordering an Armada in .25 & .22 Caliber. For hunting purposes though I’m still completely happy, and they both produce ridiculously good accuracy. It’s nice shooting these airguns in the backyard, the powder burners are just too expensive to shoot atm.

You've quickly become my new "go to" for reviews on airguns that I'm interested in buying.
I placed an order today for this gun, on the strength of your review, and I cant wait for it to arrive.
Honestly I've heard nothing but good things about it all over the internet, so I figure I cant go wrong with this gun as my "break in" to PCP's.
Thanks for all your hard work out here...I got into airgunning about a year ago and unfortunately I dont know much.
It's from guys like you who teach me the things I need to know, and it's very much appreciated.

Have mine for a week now. Thank you for the info. It’s one accurate pellet gun alright. Great gun for $300. Have trigger set at HAIR, the only way I lot it. Left pressure at factory specs buy maxed out the hammer spring tension- it hits like a sledge hammer. I lube it after each set ( roughly 50 rounds ). Bottom line is: a GREAT. purchase at this price point. I’m just hoping someone gets busy and manufactures a wood stock for it.

Later did a follow up video at 50 yards and I was getting 3 inch groups. After viewing my video I was pretty sure we were shooting a bit to fast for a 14.3 pellet(880 fps).

This rifle slaps! got mine last Friday and gave it a quick eco-tune. Plus put some hardware in space between the barrel and screw cap. Enough to get the bark down a bit. Poly pillow stuffing in the butt stock makes it sound less hollow and cheap. Got it zeroed in with 1 mag at 25 yards and at that distance it's boring accurate with the couple pellets I tried. No POI shift between different kinds. Thank you again for all the info and tuning specs!

I don’t know if anybody’s done this, but in terms of penetrating power and damage at say 50 yards, 75 yards, 100 yards for hunting which will have the most penetrating power a 177 caliber, 22 caliber, or a 25 caliber? You could also test three different pellets, in terms of penetrating power for each caliber. I think it would be very interesting.

Well, point isn't that, lol. If they make it for 100, sell it to the distributor for 200, the distributor sells it to the retailer for $250 (and that's not including freight from China and then to the retailer)... I don't see anyone winning big except the consumer, unless they all hit volume. The boutique brands are manufactured WAAAAY better than this and are WAY better appointed too. They're quite costly to produce is what I'm saying 👍

FYI The barrels are cut off with a Wire EDM Machine. like an Electric Cheese Cutter. The finish on the end of the barrel is the give away. The cut is as close to perfectly square to the axis of the bore as is possible so there is no need for a crown as all the lands and grooves terminate in the exact same place.

Took delivery of the Avenger .25 few days ago, attached a Hawke Vantage scope, quickly zeroed, using a FX Radar.
First pellets I put threw chroney was JSB Exact King 25,39gr, rifle reg was maxed out of the box and average FPS was 944,so shooting hot.
Next up was NSA slugs,26,8gr average FPS was 902,so probably this setup suiting the slugs, will lower reg and HS to get the pellets around 880 FPS.
Overall the accuracy good, will improve with fine tuning and me getting used to the rifle.
From what I`ve seen with other reviewers and rifle reg pressure, dropping the reg to 2700 seems to give better air efficiency, without effecting FPS a great deal.

    • @drekceldude
      @drekceldude 4 года назад

Quick update on fine tuning the Avenger in .25
Degassed and lowered reg to about 1600psi,using JSB 25,39gr was getting 791 fps,so quarter turn on reg and was getting 845fps,slightly less of a quarter turn on reg was hitting 872fps.
50Yard accuracy was sub 1 inch.
Getting 6 mags to a fill before dropping and I`m not filling tank to its max pressure, just filling to 4000psi.
      Reg pressure is showing 2000psi.
Also quick update for Steve, not getting any POI from removing DonnyFL Sumo before refill,so happy with that.
These JSB Exact Kings are super accurate, don`t think I need anything else, but I`ve ordered some JSB Hades, for the time been I`m going to shoot pellets and get used to the rifle, already have FX and NSA slugs to mess around with.

    • @aeropixx

How many shots are you getting with your .25 before it falls off the regulator?

    • @drekceldude
      @drekceldude 3 года назад

      @@aeropixx Depending on tune.
      Getting 5 mags on slug tune,thats 2400psi.
Pellet tune around 1900psi getting 6 mags but I fill rifle tank to 4000psi so 500psi below max,I think filling to max mite stress my compressor even though it can do this pressure you don't lose much from slightly lower fill pressure.
For $300 this rifle punches way above it's price and is perfect for people who like to tinker.

Steve as has become the norm your revives lead the league in info that goes so much deeper than most. What I think many of us would like to see you do is an occasional"Looken Back " segment on some of the guns you review. The real value in any air gun is how it holds up long term. A great price like $300 for this particular PCP is REALY only a good deal if it doesn't have problems down range after it has been shot for 2,000-4,000 pellets. There is a reason the price is only $300 .I'm not saying this gun won't hold up over time but getting some feedback from the field from 10 folks that have used it for a while would be of interest . I guess perhaps the Board Buzz on any air gun catches up with it sooner or later ,but when a breakaway air gun like this hits the market finding out how it does after the initial applause dies down is important.
What do you think about doing some follow up on some of the guns you review ?
Thanks for al the energy you put into your work.

Thanks for the nice note, I appreciate it. Being an industry reviewer has been great but one of the downsides for sure is that most of what I review goes back right afterwards. Also, my world now is "get it done and on to the next one" because the "gotta get to" line is long and never ending. Long term reliability reporting will need to be up to you guys and I've made peace with that... kinda like it even. In the years after the reviews, I enjoy reading y'alls shares & comments here and on the forums. It helps me to gauge a brand, which helps me know if I want to host another in the future. That all being said, I have held on to the Avenger, so perhaps I'll share some more about it down the road. Best, Steve

Great review on a great budget airgun! "Entry level" keeps getting higher and more bang for the buck.
Noticed that you used a bipod on the plastic pic rail instead of your trusty front bag. Wondering why?
Also noticed a nicely detailed red vehicle with fancy wheels in the background of one of the pics. When is the auto detailing channel gonna be up and running?
    Any news on AEAC merchandise?
Also, noticed all the crap(tripods, vid cams, etc...) that you have to haul out to the shooting site(and all the prelim testing). You should get an intern to do all the "grunt work" and free up your time so you could do more vids faster for us😜.

I wanted to film performance with the accessory rail because it's a prominent feature of the gun. Also, narrow, tall, and light are miserable from the bags. Funny u ask about the detaing channel, Katya asked the same today... answer is not sure. Looking for the time, lol. On the merchandising, our prototype made in America t-shirts arrived just today. Well Steve here we are again. I’m sure you don’t remember me but once again you have joined me at the top of my wife’s s-t list. The last time was with the Dreamline . I hadn’t may up my mine until you said you were keeping this one. I must admit that for the money, this is as good as the Dreamline and if it does not have any major problems I will say it is better. I can live with the plastic stock, I used one stick of electrical putty and spray insulation and no more flimsy sound. I’ve learned to be careful with my bipod and I’m getting 1”-1/14 at 100yds with a flier every 9th shot with the mag and 7/8”-1” single loading. I will take that every day. It is in .22, thinking about getting a .177. If I’m already on the list I just as well do it up right. Keep the excellent reviews coming and you and the wife stay SAFE!!!

If I was fortunate enough to have handled as many airguns as you I would probably feel the same way. I was speaking as to the adjustability and functionality of a 300.00 gun versus a 1300.00 one. Granted it’s not as smooth nor is the trigger as light but the accuracy is there. Like you said , its only 300.00 but you are getting a whole lot of gun for a little amount of money.

Favorite ammo Hades for Diablo style pellet.
Slug ammo I'm liking the FX Hybrids but be aware when pesting and you hit your target, you get a audible thwack/pop sound, which is telling me it's dumping that energy very well.
I'm using a DonnyFL Sumo silencer (awesome product) and I have to remove when refilling I'm getting NO poi but if your concerned about this Donnyfl does make a new adapter that solves this or you get a slimmer silencer which Donnyfl make and I believe 0-db make good silencers so a few choices are available.
Overall had zero issues, accurate out to 75 yards easily.
Get used to rifle tinkering youll need a chrony and have fun.

I love the reviews Steve does on AEAC and the vlog session for this rifle is invaluable. On the strength of this and the review from Ted's Holdover I ordered 3 of these rifles. This is what I have learned so far that perhaps would not be discovered with guns that were sent from the distributor specifically to be reviewed.
I started by bleeding all the air off every gun and running the regulator out to zero so that I could use the tuning guide that Steve provided on the vlog. Then filled every gun to 4200psi. Be prepared to fire the gun repeatedly while filling. On a new gun and with the regulator at the lowest setting the valve clearly has trouble seating and you need to pop it several times to get it to seat so that you can fill the rifle. Setting the regulated pressure is exactly as demonstrated but watch the regulator after firing. I am working on the .25 now and the .22 behaved perfectly but the regulator response on the .177 coming back to pressure was extremely slow. Rapid fire was not going to be regulated since it was taking 3-5 seconds to return to pressure. I have about 60 pellets thru the .177 now and the recovery time appears to be improving considerably. The .22 operated flawlessly in every respect right from the beginning.
I scoped and sighted in the .22 first. At the 20 yard limit of my inside range and set to the "pro" tune, with zero break-in time and JSB 18.13g pellets, it is literally a single hole gun thru 10 shots. The only issue I have with the .22 is that the trigger seems to be defying efforts to adjust it so far. It was breaking at 2 pounds out of the box and trying to adjust in both directions I have not been able to get under 1lb 14oz and the response to turns on the screw are erratic at best. So that remains to be figured out but in the tiny bit of shooting I did it was great.
The .177 was a whole different world. First the barrel was beyond filthy and seemed to also have some rust. Pulling patches I could actually feel a couple spots where the patches seemed to drag over rough areas. I pulled over 60 patches and still did not feel like the bore was 100% but decided to put some pellets thru before doing any more cleaning. New issue. The magazines are way, way to thick to insert them. Not just tight; but hammer them in and bang them out tight. I used a sanding block and 5 different grits of paper to sand down the clear face (didn't want to change the fit over the bore) and the bottom of the magazines until they would insert smoothly. Then I used micro papers and a buff to bring the faces back to close to clear. I decided not to mess with the trigger since it was breaking nicely and this was a first-blush test. As I mentioned, the slow regulator recovery was a concern but I allowed time between shots and after about 30 pellets it seems to be improving. In trying to tune it I decided to go with 1900psi on the regulator and discovered that, while the .22 gave me the full 5.5 turns on the hammer adjustment, as Steve reported, I could only get about 3 1/4 turns of adjustment on the .177. Even running it in and out several times it seems to have a hard stop at just over 3 turns. So I went with half the turns for adjustment. Again I was able to stack pellets at 20 yards so no apparent accuracy issues.
Finally the .25. I haven't gotten to loading and shooting it yet but so far I have noted that the fill cover offsets about 1mm to the side of the tube which indicates the plug may have been cross threaded or is simply an off-center fitting. Not a problem; just a bit strange to have it jog to the side. The barrel was dirtier than the .22 but much better than the .177. The magazines, again, were tight but not impossibly tight. I inserted each one repeatedly then used 800g sand paper to sand down the shiny areas where they were obviously crushing against the sides. That fixed that. Last issue, so far, was a whole section broken off the wall of the shroud end plug. SInce that created a hole that was clearly going to result in turbulence right as the pellet exited I got a piece of drill rod that matches the size of the hole in the plug and am filling the hollow interior side of the plug with epoxy to create a consistent symmetrical exit hole. So no testing of the accuracy yet but I anticipate the same results as the other two calibers
SO, the take away is that, as Steve and Ted state repeatedly, $300 rifle. The features at that price point are amazing. But, having got my hands on 3 randomly shipped rifles instead of 1 hand picked and sent for review, I would advise anyone buying these to be aware that there are going to be defects that have to be dealt with out of the box. Hopefully no one will encounter major and impossible to remedy problems but I think anyone buying this rifle should be prepared to do some tinkering before it is really shootable. On the flip side, because I used to be a big fan of .177, and because the scores don't actually matter this year, I am planning to try shooting the .177 Avenger for my entry in AOA EBR 9.5. If it come close to performing at 75 yards like it does at 20 it should be major fun.
