Sometimes you see a movie that completely blows you away. Not only because of the story, but also because of how it was made. The story Pinocchio everyone knows. I just didn't look at the story this way before. Pinocchio was there to compensate for the grief of losing Geppeto's son. The same grief I also walked with for many years due to the loss of both my children. The story is so beautiful and it made me so happy. I could so sympathize with his struggle. A struggle that I went through and have since put behind me.
After the film, I saw how the film came about. A passionate team of creatives working on a project for 15 years to create this masterpiece. A team that believes in the vision of one man; Guillermo del Toro. A huge gamble with a story that has been told so many times before. I deeply respect how they put this together as a cohesive team. This is something the business community can take an example from.

This looks absolutely fantastic. I can already see the differences between how passionate Del Toro is about this project and how soulless the Disney remake is. They didn't give a shit about the remake. Pinocchio was just the next movie on the list to remake and spit out.
Watching Del Toro talk about this project makes me really happy because of how clearly proud of it he is! He cares about this movie. I've barely seen anything of it and I already love it. His unpainted doll has more character than the remake's Pinocchio does.
Even if I didn't have the remake to compare this to I'm sure I'd be just as amazed at this project. I'm just really disappointed in Disney.
Edit: 0:57 Is that the whale in the background? Wow. I'd probably shit my pants if I saw this version as a kid.
