Hello, Nancy - We're happy to hear you're excited about EndNote 20! You should be able to resize and reorder the display columns shown within your library's Reference Panel. As you've mentioned, the Tabs Panel is displayable vertically along the right side of your EndNote library window. You can't completely hide the Groups Panel in EndNote 20, and the Tabs Panel is not repositionable horizontally in EndNote 20. Because of these design decisions, the associated Layout menu is no longer present. You can hide the Tabs Panel at any time by clicking its X button and redisplay it by double-clicking any entry shown on the library's Reference Panel. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

In Endnote 9, we had buttons in the Endnote (not in word) to insert selected citation(s) in a word document. In Endnote 20, I cannot find this button. However, the Ctrl + 2 shortcut still works. How can I see the button in Endnote 20? Is this possible? It really helps to insert citation in word documents, and it is much easier than using the CWYW functions in the ribbon of Word. Thanks!!
Hello, Hugo: thanks very much for your question - we removed the Insert Selected Citation(s) button previously found within the library toolbar as part of the library redesign in EndNote 20, focusing on modernization, simplification and streamlining. Aside from the entry for this command on the Tools menu, you can trigger Insert Selected Citation(s) with the mentioned keyboard shortcut. We are sorry for any trouble this causes for you and have shared your feedback for consideration in future development plans by the Product team. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
I also miss this button. I work at a university library, and when I teach people how to use EndNote for Cite While You Write, it's a lot easier to point them to a button than to have them remember a nested menu or a keyboard shortcut.

I am thinking of buying EN20 but I have a couple of questions. I use two separate MacBooks, one for work and one for home, however I might be studying at different times on both. 1) Can I install EN20 on both Macs with one subscription? 2) One is a M1 Mac, the other is Intel Mac (both up to date), would that be an issue? 3) I want the library to sync across the two devices, is this possible? 4) I hate using MS Word and want to use Pages. How does that work? Thanks so much.
Hi, MisterDaSheep: thanks very much for your questions. One EndNote 20 single-user license allows for up to three installations at any given time, macOS or Windows, for one person's use. EndNote 20 is compatible with both Intel-based Macs and M1 Macs running macOS 10.14, 10.15, or 11. is it possible to add a page number while citating? like you can do it with Zotero. Or do you allways have to do it after you have allready insertet the citation?
Hello, birds on phobos: thanks very much for your question. The easiest way to add cited page information to an in-text citation is to input the page number, or page range, into the Pages field found on the Edit & Manage Citation(s) window after insertion. You can also define cited page information within a temporary citation by copying a record from your EndNote library and pasting it into your Microsoft Word document. You will end up with a plain-text placeholder that looks like {Smith, 2021 #25}. Add your cited page information by modifying your temporary citation as follows: {Smith, 2021 #25 @ 53}. You'll see your cited page information appear within your formatted in-text citation after running Update Citations and Bibliography. Alternately, you could store your cited page information in an otherwise unused field within your EndNote library records and then customize your output style to include this particular field. Please let us know if this advice is helpful.

The advice at the beginning says "Not to save libraries that you're actively developing within cloud-syncing folders." How would I stop iCloud from syncing my folders? I called Apple and they have no idea either.
Hello, Meg: thanks very your comment - we're sorry to hear about the trouble with cloud syncing. Avoid saving EndNote libraries you're actively developing to folders such as Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive. Concerning iCloud syncing, by default, your Desktop and Documents folders sync with your iCloud Drive. You can turn off syncing of your Desktop and Documents folders via System Preferences: support.apple.com/en-us/HT207236 Many other folders on your drive would be suitable for saving active EndNote libraries without turning off iCloud folder syncing. For instance, your Downloads folder doesn't sync with iCloud. Alternately, we might suggest creating a new folder within your Home folder dedicated to storing EndNote libraries. Yes, you can install EndNote and Mendeley at the same time, but you cannot load both add-ins in Microsoft Word at the same time currently due to a conflict: support.clarivate.com/Endnote/s/article/EndNote-Cannot-Edit-Range?language=en_US It is possible to swap Word add-ins to load one at a time and avoid the mentioned error messages.
Thanks very much for your question, and sorry to hear about your in-text citation customization trouble. Not every EndNote output style is configured to display information added to the Pages field on the Edit & Manage Citations window. You can modify any output style to achieve this by including 'Cited Pages' within the style's in-text citation template. Instead of inputting page information within the Pages field, you can also use the Suffix field on the Edit & Manage Citations window for cited page information. When using the Suffix field to display this page information, you'll have to include the page prefix manually with the page number or page range. A pages prefix is typically a 'p.' or 'pp.' Please feel free to open a ticket with EndNote Product Support to discuss this topic further or for help editing your preferred output style to include Cited Pages: www.endnote.com/support

What about hiding the author(s) surname from the inserted citation within Word, if formatting as follows: "as per the work of Smith (2009)" ? Is this possible?
Hello, johnny8dljuneau: thanks very much for your comment. EndNote is capable of displaying an individual in-text citation in the described manner. Start by citing the in-text citation as you normally would, which will most likely show the author information within the parenthetical citation. After EndNote formats your new in-text citation, highlight the entire citation with your mouse. Click the Edit & Manage Citation(s) command found on the EndNote 20 tab in Word with the in-text citation selected. Can I already use Endnote on my new MacBook with M1 processor?
Hi there - EndNote 20 will run fine with an M1 Mac running macOS Big Sur. We're still in the process of checking EndNote X9 compatibility with Big Sur and will update the following knowledge article once testing completes: support.clarivate.com/Endnote/s/article/EndNote-Big-Sur-Compatibility?language=en_US
I am thinking of buying EN20 but I have a couple of questions.
Configure the Sync feature in EndNote 20 (found on the Library drop-down menu) to automatically coordinate the contents of your EndNote library between devices using a free EndNote online account. Apple developed an EndNote add-in for the Pages word processor. The following class recording is of a webinar session focusing solely on using the EndNote add-in for Apple Pages:

If we can't save it on icloud where should we save it? I want access to it on all my devices
Hi, Iperugirl: thanks very much for your comment. Save your EndNote library within an unsynced folder on your local hard drive and configure the Sync feature in EndNote 20 to automatically coordinate the contents of your library between devices using your free EndNote online account. great video ! can you do a video on cite while you write shortcuts - previous versions allowed keyboard shortcuts in word to insert selected citations. they seem to have gone missing
Hello, Shekeeb: thanks very much for your kind feedback and video suggestion. In the interim, you can visit the following knowledge article to review the default Cite While You Write keyboard shortcuts or assign custom shortcuts: support.clarivate.com/Endnote/s/article/EndNote-CWYW-Keyboard-Commands-for-Word?language=en_US

is it possible to add a page number while citating? like you can do it with Zotero.
Helo, I was wondering it seems like my end note toolbar is my old Endnotex9 and now that i move to Endnote 20 i cannot use the toolbox because everytime i want to insert citation they cannot find any data in library

However, if you want to do some troubleshooting on your own, start by quitting all Microsoft Office applications. Launch EndNote 20, click the EndNote 20 menu in the top-left of your screen and choose Customizer. Leave the default items checked on the Customizer window and make sure the Cite While You Write option is also marked. Press Next twice and input your Mac login password if prompted. Afterward, open any Word document to see if you now see the new EndNote 20 tab on the ribbon atop your document window. Please let us know if this is helpful!
Respected Sir my question is that endnote install in MacBook without windows
Reply me answer yes or no
Hello, Farah: thanks very much for your question - yes, you can run EndNote 20 natively on macOS without requiring Microsoft Windows. Clarivate's downloadable EndNote desktop installers for macOS and Windows are available in the following knowledge article:
support.clarivate.com/Endnote/s/article/EndNote-Installer-download?language=en_US
The advice at the beginning says "Not to save libraries that you're actively developing within cloud-syncing folders." How would I stop iCloud from syncing my folders? I called Apple and they have no idea either.
Hello, Meg: thanks very your comment - we're sorry to hear about the trouble with cloud syncing. Avoid saving EndNote libraries you're actively developing to folders such as Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive. Concerning iCloud syncing, by default, your Desktop and Documents folders sync with your iCloud Drive. You can turn off syncing of your Desktop and Documents folders via System Preferences:
support.apple.com/en-us/HT207236
Many other folders on your drive would be suitable for saving active EndNote libraries without turning off iCloud folder syncing. For instance, your Downloads folder doesn't sync with iCloud. Alternately, we might suggest creating a new folder within your Home folder dedicated to storing EndNote libraries. We hope this advice is helpful, but please feel free to open a ticket with EndNote Product Support for additional assistance:

Can you please guide me why I didn't find any citations whenever i wana insert , it shows me all time no citations have been found
Hello, Patrick: thanks very much for your questions and our apologies for the trouble. The Find & Insert My References window is blank the first time you access it. After entering a search term or phrase atop this window, on macOS, you must then press the enter key on your keyboard to initiate the search. Afterward, the Find & Insert My References window will automatically start that previous search the next time you access the window. You can input a new search term or phrase and press enter again to initiate the new search. hey, my university is providing endNote X9 License version but it is not working with latest Macbook air M1. When the problem will get fixed ?
Hello, Shashank: thanks for your comment - we're sorry to hear about your application issue. EndNote X9 and earlier won't receive additional updates, but if your university has an active EndNote site license, you should have access to the newly-released EndNote 20. We'd recommend reaching out to your university library for confirmation.
Is it possible to have both Mendeley and EndNote functional on the same machine and just use them interchangeably? Mendeley's interface is much more welcoming and not as gloomy looking as EndNote but my university provides the EndNote license..is it possible to choose a skin or theme for EndNote?
Hello, Bacsha: thanks very much for your question. Yes, you can install EndNote and Mendeley at the same time, but you cannot load both add-ins in Microsoft Word at the same time currently due to a conflict:
support.clarivate.com/Endnote/s/article/EndNote-Cannot-Edit-Range?language=en_US
It is possible to swap Word add-ins to load one at a time and avoid the mentioned error messages.
Any solutions if you want to add a page number, press ok, and nothing happens?
Thanks very much for your question, and sorry to hear about your in-text citation customization trouble. Not every EndNote output style is configured to display information added to the Pages field on the Edit & Manage Citations window. You can modify any output style to achieve this by including 'Cited Pages' within the style's in-text citation template. Instead of inputting page information within the Pages field, you can also use the Suffix field on the Edit & Manage Citations window for cited page information. When using the Suffix field to display this page information, you'll have to include the page prefix manually with the page number or page range. A pages prefix is typically a 'p.' or 'pp.' Please feel free to open a ticket with EndNote Product Support to discuss this topic further or for help editing your preferred output style to include Cited Pages:

Hello, I cannot find preferences under the edit screen and I want to add a reference format from my university. Please help
Hello, Lucy: thanks so much for your comment. You can access the Preferences window from the EndNote 20 drop-down menu near your screen's top-left corner in macOS. Please let us know if this works for you. Concerning your second question, the following article in the EndNote knowledge base will explain how to incorporate a downloaded output style file:

@@EndNoteTraining great thanks to your support!
On the Edit & Manage Citations Window, click the Format: drop-down menu and choose "Display as: Author (Year)." Press OK on the Edit & Manage Citations window to apply the citation customization. And what are the new features in Endnote 20 in comparison to ver. 19? It's just the interface, isn't it?
Hi there - EndNote 20 benefits from a modernized library interface, two additional comparison fields for duplicate searching (DOI and PMCID information) and a PDF viewer built from the ground up by our Development team to provide a more responsive reading experience. We'll be rolling out even more enhancements in 2021, including library tabs (similar to web browser tabs) and a redesigned notes feature. The following video overs a fast overview of what's already available in EndNote 20:

@@EndNoteTraining Did the PDF viewer is integrated on Mac version now? And doesn't use the computer's one anymore?
Hello, Nancy - EndNote 20 includes a built-in PDF viewer built from the ground-up by our developers. You can preview a PDF attachment in EndNote 20 by clicking the item shown on your library's Summary tab and choosing Open from the drop-down menu.

In Endnote X9 macOS, I was able to put the reference preview viewer at the bottom, but in Endnote 20, it is only located on the right, the button to choose where to place it is gone. Is there still a way to place it at the bottom instead of on the right?
Hi, Bonan: thanks very much for your comment. It's not currently possible to reposition the Tabs panel in EndNote 20 to appear across the bottom of the library window. You can display the Tabs panel on the right of your library window, temporarily close the Tabs panel by clicking the X button, and then reveal the Tabs panel once more by double-clicking any record shown in your Reference List panel. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes for you and have shared your EndNote suggestion with the Product team.
