I was diagnosed with glaucoma January 2024. I don't feel any symptoms at all. I just had blurry vision on my left eye whenever I'm stressed thinking about things. I walked 30 minutes when my vision gets blurry then automatically get back to normal. I don't feel pain on my eye at all but I still decided to have an appointment to a doctor though my blurry vision doesn't really affects doing everyday chores, then the doctor said that I had an open angle glaucoma and need to be on eyedrops treatment (latanoprost, dorzolomide timolol and brimonidine). As soon as i use eyedrops that's when I slowly started loosing my peripheral vision and taking eyedrops for a month doesn't lower my IOP so the doctor suggested me to undergo surgery (Phacoemulsification/March 25). My vision got narrowed when i used those eyedrops but after the surgery my vision got wider again and back to normal even my peripheral vision improved, I may say about 70%. Then after 7 months of surgery I noticed that I again had blurry vision and it's getting worst to the point that I can't read anything using my left eye literally. Went to my doctor again said that I had PCO which really common after a Phaco surgery and the blurry vision that i experienced is caused by cells that remain after surgery growing on the lens capsule, making it cloudy and affecting vision and all we need to do is to undergo a YAG treatment. I was scheduled January next year to undergo YAG and keep praying to God to guide my doctor to successfully do the treatment. Glaucoma is not a joke and we should comply to any treatment advised by our doctors. NO cure for glaucoma and any damage done to our optic nerve was irreversible. Glaucoma gives me anxiety and depression beyond what i expected. I never been so worried in my life before i had this. Thinking about getting blind and not able to see the beauty of this world is something I don't want anyone to experience. But there's still hope. We just need to accept God as our savior and life's pilot. Let him be the Captain of our plane. He won't lead us astray. He answered our prayers in a way that we don't even noticed. With God nothing is impossible. Just trust Him.
May prayers go to you. I hope all your surgery goes well in January and that will set you up for a strong 2025. Glaucoma is not a joke and I try my best advocate as much as I can. Vision is the most important thing and without it, we can't see the beauty of life.

Hi Peter, Thank you for your video. I am now 1 week post op for a "Paul Shunt" for steroid induced glaucoma. I've been fighting post-COVID shingles for the last 2 years - it's difficult because the shingles (in my left eye) are resistant to teatment due to COVID. We treated the shingles with Prednisone and so i got the steroid induced glsucoma. I was also on many of the similar drops for the pressure. It was a difficult game, probably similar to your own where we could fight the shingles.... But raise pressure. Or we could fight the pressure... But increase the coldsores on the eye from the shingles. Over the last two months we couldnt control either so surgery bevame the only option. I appreciate your sharing your post surgery journey. I think my shunt is a little different to the ahmed one where it was working immediately. I have also been told that it will always be in my eye, and that they can knot off the tube if they need to in the future, but the resevoir will always be there necause of how it is sited and inserted under the sclera. I am curious - when you got the second shunt, where did they site it? I also agree with many of the things you have said in this video and the other ones about how mental health is important around eye pressure. For me, shingles is now my stress response. I have had so much stress in my life up to now - and fought through it - that my body now reacts by yelling "FIRE" any time there is the slightest stress. I believe it is an embodied PTSD type reaction where the reactivity aspect of PTSD is occuring through the body in the extremity of the reaction. Love the ways you mention in your other video around strategies and tools for lowering IOP. Yin types of yoga might also he a consideration - I do Restorative yoga whenever I can get to a class. The only contraindication with the IOP concerns are around the inversions. I will need to get my Dr. to give me permission to do the head down positions again. Omg! How are you doing so far post-op one week? I totally understand. It is like you are trying to cure one thing but the other disease gets worse or if you want to fix that one then the other one gets worse. That is me and my kidney issue right now. I currently still take prednisone so it's like a double edge sword as you know. Are you still doing drops post-op? I had to do all my drops post op. As for my second shunt they inserted in the lower corner of my eyes and the first ones are in the top corner. Basically diagonal from each other. Currently, me with working out or anything I try to not do anything that puts my head below my body or do too heavy lifting that would build up pressure I just lift light enough weights because it helps with my stress. Ever since having Glaucoma, I get more worried about my future and whether or not I would go blind. I had to start taking anti-depressants. However, I need to slowly get off that cause I did some research and spoke with my Dr and it can raise IOP.
@itspeterlim Hi Peter, Just on 3 weeks, now. Still quite swollen where the resevoir is, but the eye is definitely less red. Pressure was still high when I saw the opthalmologist last week - 35 - but he explained it would take a while to settle. All my doctors says is “ that’s the risk of this type of glaucoma surgery..I have since researched this surgery and see on most websites, that the patient usually does lose their pre op vision with a trabeculectamy…and most patients take 2 years to even gain 70% of the vision they had prior to surgery…I am so depressed now that I have lost 80 % vision due to a procedure called a trabeculectamy and my doctor didn’t warn me at all…
I totally can relate. I had laser done to reduce my IOP and that caused my to lose parts of my vision and caused me to have cloudy vision in my right eye. I am legally blind in my right eye. I hate that we went that route of laser just cause it did more harm than good and it only lasted 4 months till i need surgery. The surgery I got was baerveldt shunt surgery. I have blurry peripheral vision in my eye. Black & white scotoma around the eyes. I use acquafresh liquijel drop. .before using it my iop was not so high. Even at present my iop is normal range about 15 in my two eye. Doctor say there is no problem in my eye. But still now i see blurred in my peripheral vision. If there any chance or possibility to develop glaucoma in my eye? I have same symptoms for having glaucoma. But test report say that no problem. Whats your opinion? early stage glaucoma cannot be diagnosis by test? When did your gluacoma identified? Early stage or advance stage?.i mean i wanted to know that what was your visibility percentage during identify gluacoma? If i have early stage glaucoma it can be diagnosis by test?
Based on my experience, I was diagnosed early. However, due to me taking steroids so often it caused my vision to gradually get worse quicker over time. Early stages of glaucoma can be tested through Tonometry where they test IOP. another is doing a fundus exam where they check your optic nerve for any damage. If you experience blurred peripheral it could also mean retinitis or neuritis as they are similar to glaucoma the only difference is they do not affect the IOP.
hey quick question how long were you using steroid for your liver ? my doctor told me I am a glaucoma suspect ( no glaucoma yet ) and I have a gum problem in my mouth and my dentist wants to use a steroid but I've been doing research and saw that any steroid is bad for eye pressure long term . that's why im asking how long were you using steroids.
It was my kidney, not my liver lol. As for the usage of steroids, I was on it for years which led to steroid-induced glaucoma. However, I do take a minimal dose of steroids now to maintain my kidney function. It all depends on the dosage though. Usually with steroids medications like pills if they start you off high you slowly taper off. It will elevate the pressure short-term but it shouldn't cause significant damage if you don't take the steroid too long and it's not a high dosage.
Hii! Thankyou for this video. I have severe dry eyes and I went to the doctor about a few months back, he said everything else was okay, he prescribed me eyedrops from my dry eyes, however I also see alot of Starbursts in my vision, as well as halos around lights, floaters, glares, which are some symptoms of glaucoma, the doctor said that I just have a cylindrical curvature in my eye which is one glaucoma related factor, but he said it's normal and might just be a genetic issue, the doctor said that he's 95% sure that i do not have glaucoma, I took high doses of vitamin d and vitamin d injections because of a bone related issue I had earlier. I'm always so stressed about my eyes :( because the dry eyes won't go away and the Starbursts just never improve. Did you go through any of these symptoms I have? I would really appreciate a response. Oh and also I'm 16.
So sorry to hear that. I have dry eyes as well due to glaucoma drops and sleeping with my eyes slightly open not fully closed. My doctor didn't prescribe me any eye drops to moisture but they did tell me to get hydrating drops especially preservative-free drops as those you can use more frequently than normal hydrating drops that are you typical max 4 to 6 times a days. Right now, I used Refresh PF hydrating drops nothing expensive as I don't want to break the bank I bought it for Sam's Club. As for the halos and starbursts glares, I don't get those as often as I used to. However, I do get floaters occasionally. I can't really do anything with the floaters as I just try my best to ignore them.

How long does it take it take glaucoma to develop. I had optic neuritis in January using steroid drug for treatment, I ended up being diagnosed of glaucoma in match. Within 2 months of using steroid. By August my optic to disk ratio progressed to 0.9 and began to hv a doubt about the diagnosis and questions y a glaucoma was detected at 18mmhg and the tests conducted was airpuff tonometry, ophthmoloscopy. Any ideas or suggestion from ur experience
For me personally, it took a few years for my chronic use of Prednisone to start causing my eyes to develop optic nerve damage and have glaucoma. I first had Cataracts which later on i developed glaucoma. From me speaking with my opthamologist says IOP can elevate within the 1-4 weeks of use of Steroid and if continuing to use it can affect it long-term. However, if you are doctor does see some sort of optic nerve damage it is very important to take action has as soon as possible. Because I wish i would have so that i can atelast have most of my vision. At a optometrist they use the airpuff tonometry and at the opthamology clinic they usually use a Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT), which is considered to be the most accurate. That is what i would suggest if you want a second opinion finding a ophthalmology with that machine.
@@itspeterlim I never had iop greater than 21mmhg within the 1-3 month which is the average normal iop. No peripheral vision nor visual defects typical of glaucoma only Optic neuritis that affected left vision(blurry cr cloudy).
@@ezechukwujoshua6344 I would suggest going for a second opinion. Based on my understanding with optic neurtitis it is similar to glaucoma. However, the key difference is that Optic Neuritis is not related to IOP but rather inflammation of the nerve. If your case seems more inflammation related than IOP it would likely be Optic Neuritis as you said. DId you ask question about whether how the optic nerve was damaged? What imaging tests (like MRI, OCT) have been performed, and what do they reveal about my optic nerve? Are there any signs of optic nerve damage that suggest longstanding disease, as seen in chronic glaucoma? I would get a second opinion as well on a doctor,
Great question! Glauomca is known as a silent killer cause it can make you blind without you knowing. One important sign is if your eye feels like they are in pain or aching. Sometimes a sign could be if you have red eyes. It is so important to get your eyes checked every year or two just to make sure your nerves are healthy and your IOP is not elevated.

I have a question. As the development of your glaucoma originated from using prednisone, what treatement do you currently use for your kidney diease now? The reason why I ask is because i use prednisone on and off, and I wonder should i stop using it altogether forever.
Sorry for the late reply. I currently still use prednisone still and it will be forever for me.
I am 72 have glucoma for a lot of years Pressure 25 right and left eye l had laser surgery not good for me l had stench In right and left eye 18 months a go eye check 5 weeks a go pressure five and seven
Just hearing you are 72 makes me feel happy because sometimes I get scared about whether ill be blind by 40 or 50 since I am so young. The laser surgery that I did as well was not good and caused my eyes to have cloudy vision. I hope everything is going well for you!
@ thanck you. All the best 👋
Chef out the Brooke Goldner diet. It was originally meant for people with Lupus but people who have glaucoma have said their glaucoma was reversed thanks to it.

I had SLT done
You dont get red eyes from eye drops? I use ganfort and cosopt and i get ret eyes. Like vains gets visible in the eyes
Yes, my eyes get very red. From the cosopt and latanoprost. Some people have asked if i have been smoking marujauna just by looking at my eyes.
I just bought a device called nanodropper. It reduces the eye drop by 70%. So maby the red eyes will decrease. I hope so
Please investigate Eye Track Advance canaloplasty
Will do!
If you experience blurred peripheral it could also mean retinitis or neuritis as they are similar to glaucoma the only difference is they do not affect the IOP.
thanks for your valuable informative reply. I am from Bangladesh. God bless u.

hey quick question how long were you using steroid for your liver ? my doctor told me I am a glaucoma suspect ( no glaucoma yet ) and I have a gum problem in my mouth and my dentist wants to use a steroid but I've been doing research and saw that any steroid is bad for eye pressure long term . that's why im asking how long were you using steroids.
Staebursts, halos around lights, floaters and glares are not symptoms glaucoma. They are symptoms of progressive astigmatism.
@@kitzune_gp They are considered early signs of Glaucoma.
Here is a Cleveland Medical Clinic Article showing early signs of Glaucoma with no optic nerve damage: my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/4212-glaucoma
However, you are correct they are also symptoms of astigmatism.
The main thing is to always follow up with your eye doctor as they know better and can physically see your eye.
@@itspeterlim Hi. Thanks I will read up. I'm at risk of glaucoma but also have terrible astigmatism. It's so bad I can't drive at night due to star bursts. I did do a check up and the ophthalmologist said everything is stable. Mostly the floaters, star bursts and glare is an issue for me. Best of luck for you.
I would get a second opinion as well on a doctor,
What are one of signs of developing glaucoma ? :(
Great question! Glauomca is known as a silent killer cause it can make you blind without you knowing. One important sign is if your eye feels like they are in pain or aching. Sometimes a sign could be if you have red eyes. It is so important to get your eyes checked every year or two just to make sure your nerves are healthy and your IOP is not elevated.
one clear sign of glaucoma is seeing rainbow around bright objects such as bulb, lamp fluoresence etc at night
Getting our eyes regularly to check the pressure. Anything above 25 is considered high
