I would always be embarrassed when I was younger because my mother would wear these lovely floral dresses when going out to places where the other moms would all wear yoga pants. Now I'm 17 and I am always stealing from her closet! She has been a great feminine influence in my life.

agreed. It is almost a sin, in the very left-leaning city I live in, to be a christian or to embrace your femininity. This channel and the comment section helped me a lot to feel less alone.
Now I found the courage to wear a lot of floral dresses, petticoats, bows etc. Thanks, to all of you!

100% agree on the modesty part. My mother always looks very polished, even in her 50s now and she told me that a woman can wear: 1. high heels 2. a low cut top 3. a shorter skirt -
-one of these things in a normal outfit,
-two of these things when going out for the night or on a date,
but never all three at once, or you´ll just look trashy.
(so I also never overdo it with any of these. My skirts are all knee-length, the heels are not too high etc...)
Thank you mom, you are the most elegant lady that I know.

@brown bird true. I am not saying you cannot wear it, but I would be very interested to see how you combine it into an outfit. Do you have any good pictures or ideas how you would wear a leopard piece?
(I have very pale skin with pink/blue undertones, so it´s not for me at all, but I´m curious) :)

Great and mature info. Modesty is overlooked nowadays and, as you said, it does not have to be just for religious purposes. There is also beauty and elegance in being confident enough in oneself to not need or feel pressured to overly show our bodies. True beauty and poise coming from within shine on their own, no need for flashy outfits nor super revealing, often unconfortable, clothes. Great video, have a wonderful day!

I had my colours professionally done a few months ago and it opened my eyes so much, for years I struggled with finding my “season” because I don’t really fit into any of the 4, 12 or even 16 colour season types. If you don’t obviously fit into a season, don’t settle, get your colours done professionally! It’s so worth it if you can afford it.

I think autmn looks can actually be the most elegant.I too struggled with this a lot. The most difficult thing for me was to find high rise jeans and pants that fit me.The footwear of course is the priority, but I always found the simplest ones the best looking anyways.Coats is where it can be really fun and practical at the same time. Invest in a good chapstick or lipstick (there some brands with beeswax and essential oils), and that can really elevate your look.Choose small simple earrings.I have long , fine hair, so cold weather is really harsh on it so I had to learn to do braids, and some other hairstyles to protect it.

I strive to be frugal and have appreciation for the stuff I already own, not overspend on clothes, shoes, bags,... It's such a heartwarming feeling when you can wear that one dress million times but still feel nice and polished. I do sometimes feel under pressure from the people around me, who do follow trends, buy a lot of stuff, go to fancy restaurants, events. And a lot of people I know appreciate that much more. It can be lonely and feelings of not being enough among people that are your family are not pleasant. ❤ Josie and Freddy are the 2 Instagrammers who first inspired me to start dressing more feminine! I found them long before I found you (which was just last week). They don't always dress as modestly as I feel led to, but both have very feminine-to-classy styles that I love, and that helped encouraged me to start changing how I dressed. At the same time, I was being inspired to walk away from anything too form-fitting or low-cut, and to be a better steward of my resources (so it was sort of a complete overhaul). I watched a lot of minimalism videos (but I can't go too far into that lifestyle because I live on a homestead, far from town) and many of them talked about capsule wardrobes. Many wore only black, white, and grey, but I knew that would be difficult to do with the feminine feel God was emphasizing. But then I found a few more balanced influences who suggested choosing a single color with the rest being neutrals. So, inspired by Josie and Freddy (and the fact that my husband loves pink and loves me in pink), I chose pink as my color. And when I initially was struggling to find modest replacement pieces as I tried to phase out all my strappy tops and pencil skirts (I'm curvy, so pencil skirts draw inappropriate attention to my derriere) I lamented the modesty of the Edwardian era and asked God to bring long skirts and old edwardian-esque blouses back in style. So I guess maybe you can thank me (but really Him) for those coming back in fashion, because immediately after that, maxi skirts became popular again. And not long after that, edwardian blouses started popping up everywhere 😍😂. Isn't it amazing how God honors our desire to obey Him and provides for us when we do? He didn't have to give me the blouses of my dreams. Wearing tank tops under low cut blouses was perfectly acceptable (I always wear tank tops under button-up blouses for modesty, anyway). But instead, He gave me the desire of my heart ♥. And even now, almost every time I go to the store looking for clothes, I am blessed to find replicas of things I've bookmarked in my IG folders for inspiration, now available in my price point. I've found them at thrift stores and discount department stores alike, and for far less than it would cost me to make them myself... and it always reminds me of how much God blesses us when we choose to honor Him. In fact, before we moved this far out (but during the whole transition process), I started getting a "$10 off any purchase" coupon for JCPenney at least once a month. So I would go to the store and go straight to the clearance section, and God kept giving me beautiful blouses and skirts for about $3 each (on clearance for $13, but $3 after the coupon). One time I even walked away with both a skirt and a blouse for $3! So He made sure obedience was going to be affordable for me (2 kids in college at the time)!
Now I look in my closet and every piece is modest (as long as I wear tank tops under the thinner shirts), and because I only chose one color, the only items that don't work together are the floral ones. I can't pair any floral tops with any floral skirts because the patterns are different. But who would have guessed that limiting myself so strictly would have given me such an amazing wardrobe with so much versatility?! I have about half the closet space I used to and it's not even full, but I have so many more outfit possibilities, and I love them all! Before it was so hard trying to mix and match colors and patterns. Now I hardly have to think about what to wear because any top and bottom will be beautiful together! And no more wasted money on pieces I love but I can't figure out how to pair them to create an outfit. Because the first thing I do when I get home is compare the piece to everything else in my closet. If I can't come up with at least 4 different pairings within 5 minutes, it goes back to the store. And if it's too similar to a piece I already own, I don't buy it. And I get more compliments now than ever before (which I don't like when it's at church because it feels cringy when the attention is supposed to be on God), even though I essentially wear a uniform. Pretty much always a full skirt and a high-neck blouse of some sort, and almost always light neutrals and pink (I only have a few black pieces and a few grey pieces at this point, and everything else is white, pink, cream, or beige). So I feel like I pretty much wear the same outfit every week, but I guess the subtle differences are more noticeable to others than I thought 🤔. So now my only struggle is dealing with people complimenting me too much and making me feel awkward 😅

Just leaving a comment so that I don't forget what I've learned! I want to pay more attention to detail: to have more things that are cohesive even if I have fewer things total; to look for things in timeless styles and elegant materials that are within my budget; to take the time to collect and curate accessories that will be the perfect finishing touches on my look; to put more effort into hair care (volume and shine); to be mindful of my essence and how I carry myself; and to know that the changes will come with time and it does NOT have to happen in one week!

I've always been someone who likes to show some more skin but I respect modesty so much because you're completely right about how it looks and it's so refreshing the way you put it instead of like a lot of other modest christian women who just attack other women for wearing revealing clothing

  • @reneechung21
    @reneechung21 4 года назад +1

Amazing! Always remember to match your metals (Jewelry, belts, buttons on boots etc.), it also helps elevate and makes you look more put together. Also, when mixing textures, makes sure one is the prominent and the rest just blends. Good to have one stand out feature of the outfit otherwise things start shouting for attention and it becomes a lot to take in!
So much communication and expression about yourself is in your clothing. Dressing well and looking put together communicates you have time and energy, it shows that you care about where you are going because you've put in that effort and it can make you feel confident, self aware and in control.
Remembering to take care of your clothing (and including some thing you find in opportunity shops!) with ironing and depilling, cutting loose strings off and storing them properly also helps with that elevated look, just like Cait said with the handbags.
Always love your content Cait! xx

My grandma visited garage sales every Saturday into her old age until she couldn't make it anymore. My mother did this for several years before I started joining her. We've been "garage sale" ing for years now- every Saturday we can , which, more often than not, is every Saturday :). Anyway, the most adored/admired outfits I own (the ones that garner the most comments from strangers) are garage sale finds. Most a mere $1 or two, many with price tags still attached. My house decor, appliances, etc. are inexpensive finds as well. If you have the style/coloring down, you are right...it doesn't matter what it costs. I get more compliments when I wear my $1-2 outfits than my higher end dresses from dept. stores. Thrifting is the way to go!

I thought your point about paying attention to every aspect of your life ( dog collar, pyjamas etc.) was very interesting. I had started this processes of upgrading my loungewear and pjs but I was finding it more challenging because it still costs money and no one really sees it but me. Because I am at home mostly, I noticed it is so much easier for me to purchase ‘nice’ clothes for going out but just not care what I wear at home. I am trying to shift this thinking and have my items more balanced and reflect my real life and where I actually spend most of my time. Also, I always remember one you tuber explaining about building a smaller wardrobe to have a color palette and specific style in mind. They said to think about how a clothing store sets up and curates a ‘collection’ for a season and how often a certain style is just known for being that brand like Ralph Lauren. If someone were to see a Ralph Lauren store display with no visible branding, many people would still know it’s Ralph Lauren based on the color palette and overall style and how the clothes all go together. So often I try to think if my life was a brand, what style and colors would I want it to be and I picture myself as the ‘marketing executive’ for the brand called ‘my life’ ( my style). It’s still a work in progress but that whole concept really helped me. To me, it sounded like what you were saying and it made me feel like it’s ok to have that ‘goal’ of having everything look nice ( and things I enjoy and like).

I cannot agree more on "everyday aestetic". When I have an item that is trashy my mood drops, and I get overly obsessed with that item. And when I see girls in my town wearing sweatpants with overly stretched knees, I sincerely cannot understand that attitude. Most of the things I own have either been bought on discount, gifted or thrfted.

What you said about having everything in your life be in a certain color scheme. I'm finally in the process of decorating my bedroom and everything I own to my purses, my workout clothes, and even my hangers are either purple, a floral design, or just in a cute design. I love it and honestly it makes everything look so much better. I do my best not get things that look raggedy either. My boyfriend told me about Dollar Tree and they really have cute things. When it comes to clothes I don't care to be modest and I also don't care to be half naked either. I love floral dresses and I wear and buy things that just make me feel pretty. I own dresses that are above the knee but I also have dresses that are to the floor. I don't follow any trends that's foolishness. I wear what looks good on my body and what I feel amazing in. More people should do that instead of trying to follow trends.

Totally agree. If you know what you’re looking for then it doesn’t matter where you get your clothes. I get loads of mine from Tesco (I’m in England) and still get compliments all the time because I know what my style is. I like simple clothes (not patterns) and I know autumn colours suit me best. I always remember a trench coat I bought in Asda for about £15 and I wore it for years until it fell apart. I got sooo many nice comments on it, it must have worked out as a few pence per wear! Occasionally I have to invest in good quality jeans and leggings as I am tall, but I can fill in the gaps in my wardrobe mainly from the supermarket.

    Caitlyn! I love these tips!!
I started elevating my style this month as I turned 26 and have begun to make a lot of changes already!
I did a little bit of research and invested in beautiful pieces from Old Navy that are incredible quality and am loving it.
I purchased a number of long dresses and skirts, all long and covered up that fit to my body type and my husband has been loving it already! I have some fitted bust pieces (all modest) that are synched at the waist and flowy on bottom. I am a big fan of neutrals even though I love the occasional pop of color here and there with accessories!
I have already noticed my distaste towards pants and have a feeling that finding a pair of pants will be hard for those colder months! I am looking forward to CHOOSING the right pieces for me and not the ones that are trendy! I just love high waisted am having so much fun elevating my style that my husband has even told me, "buy more shirts and skits like that! I like them!"

I totally agree with you that its best to just let your natural hair colour come through instead of using dye/bleach. Unfortunately I am now growing out fully grey at 33 years old (I just had a baby so I'm not sure if hormones played a part?) - I'm not sure if I want to rock the fully grey look at my age. What would you do in this situation?

There is nothing wrong with coloring your hair. She ruined hers doing it her self. You have to do research when coloring your hair. I color my all the time with no damage. Learn the differences in semi, demi and permanent hair color. Bleaching your hair is damaging and you need to either have a professional do it or know what your doing.

It isn't easy finding good quality clothing in places like Walmart or Target even, but they are there. Also had some excellent luck in consignment shops, etc. It takes time and patience, because the quality has to be examined and items tailored, but is so worth it. Thanks as always!

I didn't know about the kibbe body test until I read the blog. Now that I know I'm a dramatic classic, I figured out, easily, what I can wear. Dramatic classics can dress elegantly, so that's even better! I dress as elegantly as possible (While being fourteen and getting an average of 25 dollars a month because I'm in a band with my family called The Carter Family Band lol) anyway. It worked out perfectly. 🥰

I haven’t gone thrifting since the pandemic and I miss the hunt. I’ve been ordering mostly on Etsy. I’m really into my cultures (Irish and German) and tend to spend more money on ethnic clothing, cause to me it’s a priceless investment I’ll get to pass down to my future daughters. I incorporate Trachten blouses and tartans into my look. And most of the jewelry I wear is ethnic and made by independent silversmiths. I’m currently waiting on a gorgeous vintage dirndl that I spent about half my paycheck on to come in the mail 🤫 I’m going to use it as a special occasion dress.
This year I started a journey to make my fashion vibe a modern reflection of my cultures, because I love seeing gorgeous Asian and African descended women around the city in their traditional Desi jewelry or printed hair wraps and I have wondered why Euro-Americans have lost or given up that connection for jeans and designer labels.
I believe the best fool proof way to find the most flattering and feminine clothing is to look at your background and incorporate those pieces, almost all traditional women’s clothing was created based on what is considered feminine and beautiful to that culture.

I absolutely agree with embracing your natural hair texture. One way I do that, with wavy/loose curly hair, is to use a curling iron as a wand on a few pieces of my hair that maybe got flattened after I air dried my hair. I try to mimic my natural curl pattern. This makes my wavy hair more polished without a lot of heat damage. Also, I highly recommend the “Violette_fr” RUclips video about creating French waves with a curling iron. ❤️

This is slightly off topic ... but l have found the way you look after your clothing is so important! .. l hand wash my clothing and hang dry them and always iron my items ... this will give longevity to your clothing 😊... l have had people tell me that l look well put together and when we get talking about it, most of the time it is because l have just taken the time to iron my clothes ... and always look after and clean your shoes this makes a huge difference 🤗
