    That graphic about spilling water hit home. Last week I filled up a bucket to heat up (with a spare heater) overnight before a big water change. I left some tubing hanging out of the bucket by mistake and it siphoned all of it out into the floor. Best part is I don't know where it went. Its a concrete floor and it's just gone so I'm probably going to get black mold in the walls or something.

    Kind of a fun fact. I looked into it, bc I was curious about the tolerances, and although obviously not recommend and basically torture, that betta in the saltwater tank may survive due to their hardiness. According to a few different sources in a quick internet search, they can apparently handle much higher levels of saltiness than most freshwater fish and will survive for a good while (although they won't thrive). They will likely struggle to breathe via their gills, but they have a labyrinth organ, so even that issue won't stop them. Such amazing little creatures. Sad to see them in such stressful situations

      Brine shrimp live in water so salty that salt water fish can't survive there. This is how they avoid predators. They live in places where predators can't survive. I had brine shrimp swimming in water with so much salt that salt crystals would form in the bottom of the container. This is way worse than regular sea water.

    • @Velcraft
      @Velcraft Год назад +11

      Yeah no, it's not saltwater, it's brine. If you even saw those deep sea rovers run into a brine pool, you know how deadly that stuff is for fish. You're basically curing your betta (like curing some beef jerky) by putting it in that solution.

    About the amphibians in Norway thing: Import of exotic mammals, reptiles, and amphibians is prohibited. In this context, "exotic" means animals that aren't native to Norway and aren't on a list of recognised pet and livestock species. And since axolotls aren't on that list, it would at least be illegal to import them into Norway.

    I got a new betta fish and I’m constantly checking his water parameters. He’s been flaring at the edges of my tank so I’m drawing some backgrounds on thick cardstock to tape to the back of the tank and to the side where I can’t look through. Already added the paper to the side and he seems to really enjoy it. He’s also been following my face when I look at him. I alternated from looking at him from the side to the front and back a couple of times. He’s super cute and so pretty. He’s in a 5 gallon tank with a few Amano shrimp and a blue mystery snail. Mystery snail may go back to the shrimp tank but only after I get a bristlenose pleco to join the betta as I need a cleaner in the tank to take care of old plant matter and any algae. I’d rather not use tons of chemicals if I can avoid it

    • @birbsgobrr1619
      @birbsgobrr1619 Год назад +9

      Whoa I would avoid a bristle nose unless you plan on getting a 20-30 gal tank. Bristle nose get around 5 to 6 inches and are not suitable for a 5 gal. The bigger a pleco gets the more waste it also produces. If you want a pleco I would look for a dwarf/mini species as they tend to get between 2-4 inches and would be more suitable for a 5-10 gal tank. However 2 or 3 Otocinclus would be a better suited cleaner/ algae eater.
      Edit also there is nothing wrong with using the proper chemicals for fish tanks hell one of the filtration levels in a normal filter system is called chemical, you got your biological, mechanical, and chemical. And in a smaller tank, aquarium chemicals can be a lifesaver as small tanks are generally harder to maintain.

    There is a species of betta that can survive those tiny tanks. They are called crocheted bettas, they don’t even need water! All they need is a handful of pink gravel, a plastic plant, and boom! The perfect habitat for your crocheted betta!

    Had a couple buy a goldfish yesterday. Cute feeder with the little Hitler stache. Kanye's favorite fish.
    Just after giving them the bag the dude comes around the corner with an arm full of fish supplies and lo and behold there is a 1.3 gallon atrocity tucked inside.
    Thankfully I convinced them that their 3 inch goldfish is already too big for their tank.
    With any luck they'll follow my upgrade instructions as he grows up into a large Hitler fish.
    Some day he will go on Alex Jones and yell about jews with Ye.

    I just lost my 9 day old beautiful Crowntail betta to a bacterial/fungal infection. He died without a name because I was waiting to see what his personality was like before naming him.
    (First it was just a bit of blood on his fin and I freaked and put a bit of dissolved aquarium salt in the tank gradually, but the next day there was a film of fuzz all over his tail. Amazing to see how fast that can develop in 24 hours. Got him meds after a few hours after the first little bit of fuzz, but 8 hours later he died). My water parameters were near perfect, the only thing wrong was the ph at 7 but that's not surprising given the water where I live.
    I hope he had a good 9 days with me in his well filtered, heated, planted 5gal tank. :(
    If anyone knows what most likely was wrong with him, and what I can do in future to prevent it, please let me know. I'm thinking he had the infection when I bought him from Petco (not the best place for fish I know), but he seemed healthy and well when I chose him.
    I'm still treating the tank because there are still 6 amber tetras in there. They seem more resilient.
