Hi MD I have watched all your videos and you have inspired me to create my own setup after Christmas just to say thank you and a hello to you and fish shop matt
Matt I’d love for you to start doing small 15 minute informative videos on different fish species. Get a small tank, sit on the couch and go over the species. Size, colors, temperament, show clips of natural habitats, tank mates, regions of origin, preferred foods, equipment suggestions etc. MD can do the same with the plants and hardscape.
This is one of my favorite tanks you’ve done! The focus on the reds, and the brownish red of the wood. The way the botanicals make the sand blend in. The angel fish with their pops of red. 10/10 keep up the incredible work!
Same! I cracked up and my husband wanted to know what was so funny, showed him, it went right over his head... Made me laugh more! I did explain it and he chuckled though. 😂
I think a "Western Scape" would be a cool idea for something different. Like use a bunch of red rocks to create ledges and valleys, lots of yellow sand, small sticks for "tumbleweed", and small sprigs of buce, etc. for foliage. Think like you would make a lizard terrarium but underwater!
re: nobody caring about ISO / "camera people" say just use Auto i really appreciate MD's constant attention to shot clarity and appeal. it seems to reflect the *visual appeal* that clearly motivates him in the hobby generally. i have a visual arts background with photography experience. i wouldn't say the people suggesting Auto represent "camera people", Auto is a choice to not choose, a compromise between your actual subject/intent and everything else. they are average consumers that think of a camera as producing documents, which works for most people's personal use cases. but its distinct from photography and cinematography intended as subjective craft that relays perspective, not document. professionals generally fall in this category. the professional reason to use Auto might be like, journalists than need to shoot on the fly and can't predict the conditions. even strictly non-art people like forensics guys or action shots like sports photography will be dialing in the right settings for the subject ahead of time usually. if you have control of the shot, take control of the shot. i'm currently not active in the hobby and was only looking into the expense of it, initially seeking info was why i checked out several channels, to get a sense of what's necessary to really do it right. many channels have that info for many styles of tank, i quickly had my answers about hardware cost of a worthwhile system. it was the colours + contrast on this channel approximating the in-person feel, the character of the species, the impact in a room, that locked me in to what i want to do if im ever in a position to. that was a couple months ago i think. while i enjoy info about species & ecosystems broadly, what *keeps* me watching is mostly the flow of the process and the visual appeal of the end result. whether its the dark and light areas of established tanks to be trimmed or the choice of scatter gravel against sand and wood, dialed ISO is crucial to understanding the decision making on-screen. it can be hard to "teach" to people that don't consciously appreciate it. keyword consciously. pretty clear MD's grasp mostly comes from knowing what he likes. visual craft is always enjoyable to watch from people who are personally driven to create what they want to see. i appreciate that MD chases what appeals to him even if truly nobody notices. just wanted to express that i notice!
Really loving this new "woody" build guys! Absolutely love the Red Devil Angels, and Cardinals together, as well. The Red Devil Angels are my favorite type of angel. The cardinals look so good with the whole 'red' setup too. Great job, guys! I also wanted to mention that you guys seem to have struck a great balance together as well. From Matt's days still at Maidenhead, and your first interactions, till now, I see such a great and comfortable blending together, as friends and co workers. I think it makes the channel so much more entertaining (not that it wasn't entertaining before, for sure, because it deffinately was!) But maybe more fun to see the bouncing of ideas, and all, off of each other, and the whole vibe, is wonderful. Anyhow, I hope you know what I am trying to say? You two are just so much fun to watch and listen too, I mean. 🙂
And look, the Cardinals have discovered the Angel fish won't be eating them... for awhile! This video, the unusual build AND the two of you made an evening of pure entertainment. Thanks!
MD, get some Oracal 631 vinyl for the back of the tanks. It's made for temp use, but will last for years in your application, then remove fairly easily. Way easier than paint.
This tank and the one next to it may be my favorite of any tank I’ve seen from you guys. The contrast between them is amazing. The combo looks amazing. Love the talk through of the design philosophy too.
Hi guys, The difference with over watering Monstera in a pot is that plants like Monstera and other Philodendron types adjust their roots. Epipremnum (porthos) Monstera, scindapsus convert their roots to water roots. When they do you can see all the fine hair roots that actually drink the water. In soil these roots are mutch thicker. In soil thy rot away with to mutch water. Becouse they don't have time to convert.
I really enjoy when you show the final results a few weeks after you set it up. That’s when the fish are confident and comfortable and the water is clear. Good work!! ❤
I stumbled upon your channel a few days ago. I really love it!!! Now I'm inspired to pull out my old fish tanks and have a serious go at live plants. You two were very informative and terribly funny.
I love you guys on as a duo!! you guys already sound like life long friends or a married couple the way you guys interact lol and I LOVE IT!!! Thank you for content.
Over 30 years ago! I had a 120"x28"x36" 19mm(double Base) display tank and a 108"x20"x24" 10mm reservoir built on site at home by Seabray.... Took about 40 tubes of silicone sealant. I installed a Sanders Helgoland skimmer and a TMC centralised filtration system myself in the next room. I agree that too many people in the wrong place is more of a hindrance, You guys did superbly well.
🇦🇺 Full disclosure; i don't own any fish, I'll probably never own any fish, the only tanks i have are terrariums. So why do I watch you two? The way you two banter and feed off each other remind me of my late father and my uncle, his youngest brother. When they got together they were so funny, and you two are the same. The reason plants die from overwatering but are fine in the tank is keeping soil constantly wet depletes the oxygen and the plant suffocates. Clean water, clean roots... hydroponics anyone? I do thoroughly enjoy the knowledge, expertise and artistic creativity you bring. I love watching the tanks come together and they always look stunning
I absolutely love this tank, the plants along the top make it. I hope you have better luck with the red angels than I did. They are the only angels that have ever died on me,
How you and Matt were talking at the end of the video reminds me on how me and my mate use to sit talking around my 1st 2ft tank when we were 13/14 the nights gradually got all longer when we turned 18 and beers got involved 🤣😜
I love the colors! I fully, fully support the addition of cardinals - they are absolutely perfect in the first place, and they're breathtaking here! About the monstera growing in pots and being overwatered vs growing in aquarium water--the difference is the overwatered, potted plant dies when wet soil smothers the roots so that they can't get enough oxygen. In an aquarium, the roots aren't hampered and can get all the oxygen they need. Monstera are epiphytes btw
One of the best tanks that you have made until now, its really good to watch the channel progress, always learning new things with you and matt. Greetings from Portugal 🤝🏽
WOW, this is absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much for shearing this. A science tip, though: plants do not use oxygen from the water during night in a way that it would cause trouble to animals. Plants do need oxygen but they only use small amount of it stored inside their cells after photosynthesis. I actually checked this from the professor of botany at the University of Helsinki :) So in case you have oxygen issues in the tank, look reasons elsewhere than plants.
Hello MD and Mat good job but have you thought about some differ fish I think Rummy nose tetras will be good because of the orange of the Red devels and they will get verly large so there will be no problems for a long wile
The reason the Monstera dies from over watering in the pots and doesn't die in submerged in the fish tank is because of the oxygenated water in the fish tank. Same reason concept as hydroponics in gardening. Plants just need oxygenation in their root system.
Looking great! Thank you for another wonderful video. PS You and Matt make me laugh, especially the banter about dusty sand, both of you make clouds of dust!
Looks awesome! My fav so far! Reminds me of the creek where I grew up, there was a log jam that looks a lot like your tank! It was great for fishing , they loved hiding among the roots.
You can get black cling also, at least in like a vinyl wrap. I'm not sure how similar it is to the frosted clings you often apply. But it'd be less permanent and probably a lot easier to deal with than painting black.
Nice tank. I like how the color of the cardinal tetras and the red devils go ultra well with the colors of the scape itself. I'm tryin' to do something similar visually with harlequin rasboras and bettas, but I need more practice.
Yeah that's gorgeous. The variations of red hues are just spot on man. Any chance of a budget video? One where you do a small scape on what's a realistic (to those of us that aren't on a RUclipsrs budget haha) budget? Nothing over the top just a nice small tank set up. Keep it up man love the videos
That's a nice aquascape but with the size the angelfish can get I would say the pieces at the back are so big they are going to take space for fish to swim
That came out really beautiful with all the wood, and those angels look so amazing in it! I've just ordered a decent number of new fish for my main tank, among which some angels which they call Koi; they're pretty similar to these Red Devils but the gold parts are more, well, gold 😁 I can't wait to see how this tank will develop and how many more plants are going to go into it because you just can't help yourself, MD, and you know it 😂
My process of thinking as a build progresses : Mmmm I'm not sure ... Ugh don't like that ... Ooooo actually ... OMG I LOVE IT !!! Every ... Single ... Time 🤣
brilliant tank... I love it. and excellent choice of fish. I was thinking a red lily would be really nice in there. and then you done it 😆. definitely one of your best 👌
Beautiful tank! Definitively going to get saved as a reference reference for my upcoming tank. With this much wood in it you should definitively consider putting in some stick-like catfish like hemiloricaria beni, farlowella spec, leliella spec... they absolutely love sticks.
You two make me laugh! 😂 Loving the juxtaposition of the green monstera and then suddenly all that wood and redness, works amazingly Side note I had this issue with the biofilm with one of my little tanks, soon as I sorted a bubbler, it was all good

Can you please make a crayfish tank please?🙏🙏
Hi MD I have watched all your videos and you have inspired me to create my own setup after Christmas just to say thank you and a hello to you and fish shop matt
Amazing tank, guys, congratulations! You are forgiven! The "black water" tank is back!
Jes it did.I love it but it can use some Rummy nose tetras as some differ fish
"Can't wait to experiment with more big wood"!!!😂😂😂
Great build!!!
Listen, bringing in Fish Shop Matt was the most significant move in the history of RUclips. Bravo.
This!!!
Doesn't Matt already do a Fish Files series like this on his own channel?
He does... On his own channel!...
He does I just figured having access to all of the tanks and new fish wall couldn’t hurt.
I'd be bored to death listening to MD talk about hardscape and where it's from 😆
This is one of my favorite tanks you’ve done! The focus on the reds, and the brownish red of the wood. The way the botanicals make the sand blend in. The angel fish with their pops of red. 10/10 keep up the incredible work!
Wow! Gorgeous!
This conversational content is so great. The tank is amazing and I am loving the new experimental dynamics that’s going on now. Just outstanding!! ❤
Matt’s laugh at the end “experiment with big wood”, was the perfect way to end this video off lmao. Well done guys, the tank looks amazing
Agreed, still laughing.
MD: “… with this monstrosity out the top.” Matt: “no, its monstera.” 🤣🤣🤣 that might be the first time I have laughed that hard.
Timelapse?
You need to get out more
Same that needs to be the shore for this video
Same!
I cracked up and my husband wanted to know what was so funny, showed him, it went right over his head...
Made me laugh more! I did explain it and he chuckled though. 😂
Monsterrarosity would have been perfect
The only thing that could make me happier is if you put out more videos. I can't get enough of you guys creating together ❤️
Finally! Sunday wouldn’t be the same without an MD aquascape 👍🤛
You guys should start an podcast where you guys chill and sit in front of a tank and talk about the fish, tank and plants
Yes I loved this
Yes!
OMG those Angel Fish are stunning !!! and I love how they all look a little different, so that you can tell them apart from one-another. 😍🥰😍
23:10 is such old married couple bickering energy and i love it
I think a "Western Scape" would be a cool idea for something different. Like use a bunch of red rocks to create ledges and valleys, lots of yellow sand, small sticks for "tumbleweed", and small sprigs of buce, etc. for foliage. Think like you would make a lizard terrarium but underwater!
45:38 already eggs on the wood behind the angels
The humor in this video is stellar
re: nobody caring about ISO / "camera people" say just use Auto
i really appreciate MD's constant attention to shot clarity and appeal.
it seems to reflect the *visual appeal* that clearly motivates him in the hobby generally.
i have a visual arts background with photography experience.
i wouldn't say the people suggesting Auto represent "camera people",
Auto is a choice to not choose, a compromise between your actual subject/intent and everything else.
they are average consumers that think of a camera as producing documents, which works for most people's personal use cases.
but its distinct from photography and cinematography intended as subjective craft that relays perspective, not document.
professionals generally fall in this category.
the professional reason to use Auto might be like, journalists than need to shoot on the fly and can't predict the conditions.
even strictly non-art people like forensics guys or action shots like sports photography will be dialing in the right settings for the subject ahead of time usually.
if you have control of the shot, take control of the shot.
i'm currently not active in the hobby and was only looking into the expense of it,
initially seeking info was why i checked out several channels, to get a sense of what's necessary to really do it right.
many channels have that info for many styles of tank, i quickly had my answers about hardware cost of a worthwhile system.
it was the colours + contrast on this channel approximating the in-person feel, the character of the species, the impact in a room,
that locked me in to what i want to do if im ever in a position to.
that was a couple months ago i think.
while i enjoy info about species & ecosystems broadly,
what *keeps* me watching is mostly the flow of the process and the visual appeal of the end result.
whether its the dark and light areas of established tanks to be trimmed or the choice of scatter gravel against sand and wood,
dialed ISO is crucial to understanding the decision making on-screen.
it can be hard to "teach" to people that don't consciously appreciate it. keyword consciously.
pretty clear MD's grasp mostly comes from knowing what he likes.
visual craft is always enjoyable to watch from people who are personally driven to create what they want to see.
i appreciate that MD chases what appeals to him even if truly nobody notices.
just wanted to express that i notice!
Professor Matt- apedia saves the day!!
Well done fella…
This is such a beautiful tank. The fish really suit the hardscape and the plants. Nice work.
Creating living art is so cool. Great to see you two trouble-shooting experiments!
And look, the Cardinals have discovered the Angel fish won't be eating them... for awhile!
This video, the unusual build AND the two of you made an evening of pure entertainment. Thanks!
I really love this tank. Even though it’s full of wood it’s not too much and because there’s less plants in it, it shows the fish off much better. 👍🏼
Gorgeous tank! And thanks so much for sharing what happened with the fish and the oxygenating fix!
I love this tank! One of my favourites I think. The colours, the wood, the choice of fish, it all comes together beautifully
The Angelfish are loving it, exploring all the nooks and crannies. It suits them too, they blend right in.
Hi guys,
The difference with over watering Monstera in a pot is that plants like Monstera and other Philodendron types adjust their roots. Epipremnum (porthos) Monstera, scindapsus convert their roots to water roots. When they do you can see all the fine hair roots that actually drink the water. In soil these roots are mutch thicker. That "fungus" is biofilm and is completely normal when setting wood up in a tank. It can clear up on its own, or fish can kind of munch on it.
really glad when you added the black background. The entire tank looks phenom but the depth is really added with that dark background.
MD's the type of boss that would ask why you're leaving at 4.55pm. Matt's the type of boss that doesn't even realise you weren't in all day.
Wowza!
This aquarium scape with the fish looks absolutely breathtaking, great job guys!!
I really enjoy when you show the final results a few weeks after you set it up. That’s when the fish are confident and comfortable and the water is clear. Good work!! ❤
Another gorgeous job well done!! I don't think there is anything you two can't do!!!! Just lovely!!! I love it!!!!😊😊😊
I stumbled upon your channel a few days ago.
Love this tank. Works so well with just the two species of fish(ignoring the never-to-be-seen Bristlenoses).
I absolutely love all red planted tanks. They look almost alien.
So much better, with the black background! Cool tank build.
I hate running out of sand... it's worse than running out of snacks.

I do thoroughly enjoy the knowledge, expertise and artistic creativity you bring. I love watching the tanks come together and they always look stunning
I love this tank! You did a great job making it look natural and the Angels are fantastic. Fun video, thank you.
Great. I can't wait to see how it develops.
Greetings from Germany.
Seeing them in the tank… these are the first angelfish that I actually like! I usually find them rather boring. Great job! 👍
I absolutely love this tank, the plants along the top make it.
I hope you have better luck with the red angels than I did. They are the only angels that have ever died on me,
i love the attention to detail in the lighting in the videos
You two are so great together! Awesome wood and red tank!! Gina
How you and Matt were talking at the end of the video reminds me on how me and my mate use to sit talking around my 1st 2ft tank when we were 13/14 the nights gradually got all longer when we turned 18 and beers got involved 🤣😜
Very cool, MD. I hope the water stays clear.
it has. So good!
Lmao reading this sounded like a threat
@@brandonthegrey No threat. lol Wood has a tendency to release tannins, which can make aquarium water turn brown - like tea.
Love this tank. I vote for using more loaches 🥰
And show the loaches in the Archer tank. And more Archers spit feeding 😍
Beautiful tank guy's , like the use of the big pieces of wood and rock's .
Lovely tank! Thank you for giving all the neons a beautiful home!
One of the best tanks that you have made until now, its really good to watch the channel progress, always learning new things with you and matt.
Greetings from Portugal 🤝🏽

Definitely saving this for later down the line. Love very natural looking scapes like this
I’m jealous of all your awesome pieces of driftwood!
You are both so talented! The tanks are beautifully done. Fascinating to watch. Regards from New York.
Hello MD and Mat good job but have you thought about some differ fish I think Rummy nose tetras will be good because of the orange of the Red devels and they will get verly large so there will be no problems for a long wile

Looking great! Thank you for another wonderful video. PS You and Matt make me laugh, especially the banter about dusty sand, both of you make clouds of dust!
MD and Matt, this tank is absolutely gorgeous! Definitely my favorite of all 😍
Looks awesome! My fav so far! Reminds me of the creek where I grew up, there was a log jam that looks a lot like your tank! It was great for fishing , they loved hiding among the roots.
This is definitely my favorite tank on this channel
You can get black cling also, at least in like a vinyl wrap. I'm not sure how similar it is to the frosted clings you often apply. But it'd be less permanent and probably a lot easier to deal with than painting black.
That is a stunning tank!!
Saw title and sat down with my coffee. Love the Angelfish selection. Keep doing Angelfish content! Ya'll get thumbs up before video even starts!
Nice tank. I like how the color of the cardinal tetras and the red devils go ultra well with the colors of the scape itself. I'm tryin' to do something similar visually with harlequin rasboras and bettas, but I need more practice.
Cardinals and Angelfish have been my goto fish. I love that combination! Angelfish make me happy (unless they are grey)!
I’m jealous of the hardscape budget on this one! 😂 😯
We do care about ISO :-) My favorite sand is Caribbean Maine's natural-looking sand and ground up Seriyu stone. Keep up the great work!
Absolutely stunning. Beautiful!
Great big wood experiment guys. Love the choices for wood, plants and my favorite fish. You've out done yourselves...
This tank is absolutely amazing!
We appreciate this kind of tanks ❤🥰
Best build so far, IMO. Really enjoy the pair of you bouncihg ideas off each other.
That's a nice aquascape but with the size the angelfish can get I would say the pieces at the back are so big they are going to take space for fish to swim
And yes, the finished product looks truly amazing!!! great job boys!!
Doesn't the roots rot if you bind them to ceramic rings like that? How do you trim?
The joke at the start had me laughing so hard🤣
This aquascape tells a story. It's like a tiny underwater world
This is an absolute winner of a tank.
Stop the video at 0:38 and sees Matt's face brilliant 😂😂 Monstera it is MD
Have a great Sunday 🙏 with love from the Netherlands
stunnnning unscapey scape! love the post build debrief chat too....can't wait for salt water!! exciting all around
WOW you’ve done it again,, what an amazing build! 🎉❤
That came out really beautiful with all the wood, and those angels look so amazing in it! I've just ordered a decent number of new fish for my main tank, among which some angels which they call Koi; they're pretty similar to these Red Devils but the gold parts are more, well, gold 😁 I can't wait to see how this tank will develop and how many more plants are going to go into it because you just can't help yourself, MD, and you know it 😂
My process of thinking as a build progresses :
Mmmm I'm not sure ...
Anyone else checking every night hoping for an upload haha can't wait for follow up on the saltwater tanks
You two make me laugh! 😂
Loving the juxtaposition of the green monstera and then suddenly all that wood and redness, works amazingly
Side note I had this issue with the biofilm with one of my little tanks, soon as I sorted a bubbler, it was all good
Great looking scape, one of my favourites. I'd love to do more tanks, just no room
Absolutely gorgeous set up guys!!! ❤
Amazing yet again! So different from anything I've seen before! ❤
My wife would kill me spending my paycheck on all that wood 😂
Love the hard scape 😊
you and your tanks never fail to entertain! keep it up mat!
I came for the banter! but I ended up loving the tank too. lol
What a great result! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
