    I’ve always had success combining angelfish with blue gouramis, as well as larger tetras like black skirt tetras. They do well with live-bearers like platies, too. For a semi-aggressive cichlid tank mate (like angels), you can combine them with blue acara and festivum.

    I have a cichlid tank now but once they go which I’ve had them for almost 3 years but I’m thinking my next setup will maybe 4 angel fish and 20 neon tetras in my 55 gallon tank and hopefully some shrimp would this work?

    • @AquariumStoreDepot
      @AquariumStoreDepot  Год назад +2

      It is possible to keep 4 angel fish and 20 neon tetras in a 55-gallon tank, but there are a few things to consider.
      Angel fish can grow quite large, so it's important to make sure that you have a tank that is big enough to accommodate them as they grow. Also, they can be aggressive fish, so you will need to make sure that the neon tetras are not too small when you introduce them to the tank, as the angel fish may bully them.
      Another thing to consider is the water chemistry, angelfish are native to South America and require similar water conditions as tetras, but they are sensitive to water parameters, so you will need to make sure that the water chemistry is appropriate for both species.
      Finally, it's worth noting that shrimp may not be the best option for this tank as they are also small and may become food for the angelfish.
      Overall, it is possible to keep these fish together in a 55-gallon tank, but it will require careful planning and monitoring to ensure that the tank is set up and maintained properly.

  • @kanwang8306
    @kanwang8306 8 месяцев назад +8

    This is so misleading. Putting adult angelfish with anything smaller than 2 inches is a HUGE risk! That includes quite a few recommendations in this video: cardinal tetra, otocinclus, cherry barbs... and maybe more. It depends on so many unforeseeable factors that your adult angel won't eat them, even when they're raised up together. A lot of times it's pure luck, hit or miss. Yes some hobbyists might have success keeping them together, but they should NEVER be a recommended to be put together IMO. A lot of new hobbyists following this list will have a very bad experience and this affects the entire hobby.

      This is a hotly debated topic and one I should have touched on more. For smaller fist you need a big school and a larger tank. Here are some discussions that explain the rationale:
      www.plantedtank.net/threads/tetra-and-angel.205593/

      @@AquariumStoreDepot This is exactly my point: You need A TON of variables work in your way to maintain peace between full grown Angelfish and smaller tankmates: tank size, decor, school size, temperature, feeding... AND STILL, there is no guarantee these combination will work even if you do EVERYTHING right. Therefore, this should not be a recommended combination, especially for beginners.

      @Elizabeth-lj2vv Месяц назад

      There is no experienced, knowledgeable fish hobbyist who would advocate placing angelfish with goldfish. Goldfish should be kept in cold water, and angels are a tropical species. Goldfish produce much more ammonia as angels which can create a lot of stress or even kill the angels. Goldfish also get very large and should be fed an entirely different diet. These fish are not compatible long-term and any fish store associate worth a dime would have strongly advised against this combination from the beginning, and ideally refused the sale. I am surprised that the fish have been coexisting for so long, but their ideal conditions don’t even overlap, so at the very least, one or both species is not living its best life. My guess is you bought them somewhere like Petco and the associate either didn’t know any better, or didn’t care what happened to the fish or whether you would be successful. Everyone, please do your research and don’t expect underpaid college-age pet store employees to care about you or your fish, or be able to advise you. Just because two fish both live in water doesn’t mean they want to live in a glass box together, or should be expected to. I get customers all the time that don’t have a clue what they are doing and rely entirely too much on clueless store employees to keep them out of trouble. They don’t go in knowing enough to even tell whether they are speaking with someone who knows their stuff. Many other customers, even when talking with a very knowledgeable associate, insist they know everything and argue with whatever the associate tries to tell them. This is because these customers may be slightly more knowledgeable than the complete novice, but still don’t know enough to tell when they are speaking with an expert who knows way more than they do. As someone who has been in the hobby over thirty years and heard every stupid myth and answered every beginner question hundreds of times, I just say to educate yourself, and get your info from reliable sources, not TikTok influencers setting up tiny bowls, or that friend with a big cichlid tank who has African Rift Lake and South American fish all thrown in together. There are a lot of good books, and there are some reputable channels here on RUclips that will actually be knowledgeable and steer you in the right direction. Know why you are getting into the hobby and keep in mind that fish are living creatures and have the same right as any other pet to be properly cared for. So many people think of fish as something that is pretty but short-lived, and basically throw-away pets. Just for reference, well-cared-for angels can easily live for 8-10 years or even longer, and many goldfish can live 20 years or more. People who think fish don’t live very long or don’t expect to research and set up the proper environment for their chosen species either haven’t learned better yet, or simply don’t need to own fish.

      Tetras on the list that were added are ones that we have had success with. Black skirts and angelfish is the most common combination seen in 4 foot long planted tank setups when combining
