I've lost count how many times I've watched this video and I cry every time. I honestly love that you had to step away for a minute - it means you care and the lyrics and visual hit you the way it was intended. Great reaction - this was my first from you guys. I'm a US Army vet and I'm here to tell you it NEVER goes away. You remember everything. The smell of the air. The time of day. The smell of the gun powder. The smell of your buddy who like you hasn't had a shower in a couple of days. It's seared into your brain, everything.
This video is about coming to terms with being in combat and the things we saw and the things had to do and buddies lost in combat. How society as a whole doesn't really understand what we volunteered to do for them. They don't even want to try to understand.

Fucking truth. I was 11B and did 4 tours - 3 in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan. Some things you just don't forget, no matter how much you want to.
@@Keti9er its funny how it works. You feel different after the first time. Whether you saw a buddy go down or you fired your weapon in anger with the intent to kill what shows up in your sight picture for the first time. You see it when you're awake when you're asleep and if you're lucky it stops bothering you for a couple of days.

This is one of the most difficult reaction videos I watched, ever. I am one of the 460K veterans suffering from severe PTSD. After living with the nightmares every night, the constant feeling of being on edge and never able to relax, shutting out my family, walking around in stores seeing other people living completely normal lives not knowing or was oblivious to what was happening down range in the war torn countries we served, then living with the “survivors remorse” for 12 years, my body and health began to deteriorate. I couldn’t understand what was happening to me and went into a deeper depression. In 2013, I told myself “Fuck this shit, it’s time to pull the pin and see what’s on the other side”. Seeking professional help was considered weakness, so I decided it was time to take the final option and step off this rock we call earth. Then something amazing happened, March 19, 2013, my granddaughter was born. When I got to the hospital she was just 8 hours old. I held her and she looked at me and smiled. I instantly felt a love that I had long forgotten and I told that little girl, I will always be there for her. She closed her eyes and fell asleep. I think I held her for 2 hours and had to leave. I went home, and the next day I made a different plan. I sought professional help. I still have my internal battles but I am learning to live with them, getting dialed in with the right medication and counseling. My granddaughter is 7 now, and I have kept my promise to her. Unfortunately some of my battles buddies pulled that pin. I am one of the lucky ones and count my blessings everyday that I wake up. Sorry this post was so long, but your reaction brought somethings up to the surface with me too. The only advice I can offer to my brothers and sisters living with those invisible wounds is to say, there is no shame in your game to ask for help. That idea of seeking help is weakness is a bunch of bullshit. Don’t become another statistic, remember - ; IGY6

And I know your struggle, because my own brother, a four-year Marine, almost took his own life, and I happened to be the one to intervene, and to convince him to not pull the pin. He's doing better now, but those were some dark days -- and like you, a child, my nephew, also reminds him why he fights.

A friend of mine did a handful of tours in the middle east, the last time he came home was for good. He was still my friend, but you could see in his eyes that he was holding in a ton of stuff. One day we were driving somewhere and he just opened up, and let it out. Some of the things he saw and had to do shook me to my core. He's doing well now thankfully. Anyone who can push through that and live anything close to a normal life get my unconditional respect. That takes more strength than anything. Thank you for your service.

I did 6 years in the United States Marine Corp during desert storm, and still get tears in my eyes watching this video and watching peoples reactions to this makes me feel like everything i did over there wasnt in vane...Keep up the good work and i will keep watching!!
This is why I dont like military people. Always looking for approval. I for one do not condone not approve of any murders you commited. As the bible states "thou shalt not murder." There are zero aestricks next to that commandment to justify it. And no... I don't need a reply from you.

Semper Fi. I was active in the Marine Corps from '02 to '07. Joined a few months after I had 5 family members die on 9/11. I've been in a certain mood where I keep watching reactions to this video lately. I love this band so much and even though I watch this video at least once a month, I still break down every time. It's been so hard.
This song moves me every time I hear it.
I spent 35 years in the US Army. Over the last 20 years I've watched countless soldiers die, some have died in my arms. It never gets easy. The hardest part was going to my daughter's house to tell her that her twin brother had been killed.
He was killed in Afghanistan by an IED just 3 weeks after I retired. My heart hurts so much. I miss my son so much.
I should have died over there not him he was so young.

@@michaelfredgren1342 Actually, Dexter Holland wrote it for his girlfriend who died in a car wreck. The song came out in 1997.
@@chrismorgan283 actually there are several different stories about this song. One is the car accident; another says it came from a drive by shooting that Dexter and his wife survived. Being an immediate fan Offspring fan when they were playing clubs in Southern California, the first (printed) article about this song mentioned an overdose, so I tend to stick with that explanation. Can't remember if the overdose occurred while driving which would explain everything. Driving back after shooting up.

I wasn't around then, but man I wish there were more people like FFDP when you guys came home. Horrible war, so many people who had no choice, and yet vets were demonized for what politicians commanded. Vietnam is about the only war that didn't have anyone in my family in it and but even still I've got a soft spot for anyone who was there. Thank you sir.

I'm a retired MARINE CORPS veteran who has done 4 deployments in Afghanistan for my people , all of humanity. I'm not going to say that life is easy for me now because I fight demons daily and they never leave me alone. So stay positive and keep your eyes open and let your heart lead you to be your destiny.

I can’t watch/hear this song without tearing up thinking of the brothers I’ve lost; life , lost will to go on, thoughts of and treatment of as disposable. Metallica has a song “disposable heroes”. And it is spot on. Things got a lot better for my brothers truly suffering unconscionable pain and lack of support for men and women that were willing to sacrifice all for the land they love.

Every time I listen to the song, my respect for military veterans rise every time. Every time I listen to the song, it succeeds in watering my eyes. I watch a couple of content creators who were military veterans, one Army and one Airforce. I am glad both of them live and prosper, as well as have families that are there for them. I really hope the veterans get the support they need, for everything they have done to help us keep breathing. They are the reason why our lives are peaceful. Any veterans reading this comment and watching this reaction, thank you for your service.
Never apologize for your emotional reactions to music. I've been a FFDP fan for a long time and have watched this video many times. I cry every time.
As a man who served both in Iraq and Afghanistan, the way many of my brothers in uniform were and are continuing to be treated after their hitch is up and they return stateside I find to be pathetic and unacceptable....you want to read something that's just as sad if not more so, Google search the number of combat vets who've committed suicide, my former tank commander is included in that number....
Then remember that the official suicide numbers don't include vets who drank themselves to death or "accidentally" OD'd. Gov't can spend $80,000 on a toilet seat but they can't shell out for decent healthcare or housing for the veterans they broke to begin with.

Love the reaction and being a veteran myself that has gone through this. The hardest part of being overseas is the feeling of if you are actually doing the right thing but in the back of your mind is its either your life or theirs. That thought doesn't make it any easier or doesn't cause the thoughts to go away. Not everyone is understanding of what we go through and then we come back and get called monsters by the people that we believe and think love us or care about us. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

You don't know me but listen to me when I say you are not and will never be a monster for what you had to do to survive and come back home. My dad was a Disabled Vietnam Vet and would tell me stories about how when he came home that he was made to leave his hometown because of the hostility and comments of being a "baby killer". That always hurt something deep inside me because not one single vet deserves to be disrespected for doing what they needed to do to come home. I am trying to do my part by being a part of my local VFW. So, from a Vet's daughter to you... Welcome home and Thank you so much for your service.

HI Kat. I hope your brother (and mine) found the help he needs (needed). I'm UK too. Sadly EVERY vet, no matter what uniform they wore gets sh@t upon by their governments. The ONLY thing we can do is talk to each other and help out in anyway we can. Vets are a strange kind of 'I get it' extended family.

I tear up everytime I see this video. I do what I can for our vets, even if its only showing them the respect they deserve. I can never truly understand the experience, but I can listen. It just makes me angry over how disposable they have become when no one is watching.

You had the exact right reaction to this song. Veterans being let down by governments and the people who should help them but no one does. I joined the army as 16 year old kid and got a years training to bring me to right standard and old enough to join my regiment. Three operational tours later and 6 years later I couldn't take it anymore so I left which took 30 days. They switch you on but never switch you off. You are just a number doing what you are told right or wrong it's not your decision to make but you take the crap from people who haven't got a clue say things like you must of known what you were getting into when you joined up. Really how many stupid things did you do from the age of 16 to 21 when you thought you knew everything but in fact you hadn't a clue. The average age of a new recruit is 18 years old. Thank you for doing this.

I never went into the armed forces, but I have a lot of friends that did, and my uncle served in Vietnam, he never talked about it. this song makes me cry every time I hear it. and I'm American, but I also cry for all the army's of the world that have to go through this.

Much respect Doc. My wife's cousin was a Combat Corpsman in Nam. I had (and still do) the utmost respect for him. (Sadly he passed several years ago) After I came back he made life a bit easier at family gatherings. He knew when things were getting to be a bit much and he'd just say "Hey, isn't it time for a smoke?", we'd step out back, have a cig, just bs in general then go back in. He is missed dearly. He was really a great guy.

My nephew & brother both served in Afghanistan, my nephew is still in the Army.
I watched this by mistake, actually. I'm a retired disabled Veteran who served with the US Army, a tank commander. I was present in Germany when the Wall came down, got a chunk of it I knocked out myself. Desert Storm wasn't as difficult as the Afghanistan war but still it was a war.
I was crying in seconds watching this. I know many Army buddies who struggled, myself included.

And for the record, if it hasn't been said, the men that are featured are actual vets. I'm not sure if the story told is accurate to the men's life, but the overall story isn't inaccurate.

1: The part with the little girl and the flower and the picture.
2: The part with the cops and the tattoo and them helping him out.
3: The part at the end where the two are reuniting.

I was changed when I got out of the service. I had some issues, but nothing too bad. Songs like this raises awareness, Thanks for reacting to it,
I'm a 20 year Navy Vet. Regardless of what ever branch we were in. Good possibility we all know or knew someone who's became one of the 22 a day, or is dealing with severe PTSD. And not getting the proper help they need. I have had a few friends that became one of the 22 a day. I almost did myself. On one deployment after returning to home port we had a guy hang himself in a storage locker. His family didn't show to meet him. He found out because she was with another guy. Good chance if you ask a vet how they are doing and they say oh, I'm ok. Good chance they are not ok. It's not the physical wounds that do us in. Those heal in time for the most part. It's the mental wounds that do us in. Remember not all wounds are visible. Sometimes the person you thought was the strongest, needs the most help. Take some time and talk to one. A simple short conversation. May be all that Vet needs to keep going on.
On my wall sits a calendar, on that calendar is a bunch of dates with little more than a name and a rank that would mean nothing to anyone else but me. Those are my brothers I would give anything to trade places with. When those days come I always find my self watching these reaction videos. If for nothing else, I am forever thankful to Five Finger Death Punch for making it so I am less alone on those days.
There is nothing to be ashamed about breaking down during this video. This is a powerful, powerful song and video. Being a 20 year veteran I have seen many things and see homeless veterans every day. Thank you for your reaction, more and more people need to get the message about our veterans.
It happens all over the world...It happened to me, feeling unappreciated afterwards...It was hard trying to put the memories in place..one of the guys, I served with killed himself not to mention the ones, who passed in combat..it all affected me greatly...dont feel bad about crying, it shows you have a heart...It is a powerful song .. it breaks me though .. it is difficult to hear but I Love it at the the same time. This is always a hard one for everyone. Dont know how many times ive watched this video and still get emotional. Dont know where you're from but i still thank your dad for his service. Im from from the US and those stats here are real. We need to take care of our Veterans so much better. Thank you for showing this video.

Its refreshing to see non "military" and or "non affected" people watching this video. I would classify "these people" as just everyday people living their lives with no knowledge or insight to a military family or soldiers struggle. As a disabled veteran I can say that everytime i watch this video I feel detached from most of the people around me. The statistics are not exaggerated and I've lost many brothers to them. No matter what war you've fought in, these feelings hold true. Its an everyday struggle that only brothers and sisters of war can relate to. Thank you for your video. Please educate more people on what is happening to us. God bless and stay safe.
I am an American Vet and have worked with groups that help the homeless. There are different reasons for people to be on the streets but the largest group are those with mental/emotional disorders and most of those are vets. Many come home from war with unseen scars that will never heal and while there are many programs to help them, many fight the help that is offered. It's a hard situation but it's important for people to know about it and show understanding. They are people too and dealing with more than you can imagine.
Genuine, it hits my heart to, i served 6 years and if i had the money to make right by all of them i would and thats the truth. It breaks my heart seeing what they loss for everything they gave. I tear up everytime in pain. It will never stop. Wish there was a better outlet for thise who sacrificed and lost there way because of lack of support in the system. Love you all and ty for everything.

It is never easy, coming home, after spending so much time in a war zone.
But Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen stand silent vigil, ready, at a moment's notice, to become the most savage and resilient soldier the world has ever known...to protect everyone who sleeps at night, so those that do not choose to fight, can remain safe and secure at home.
Especially since yesterday, the day before yesterday, was 9/11 -- 20 years after that fateful September day -- when so many joined the armed forces. Yet these men and women come home, mentally, emotionally, physically injured -- or they come home with a flag wrapped around a box, having made that ultimate sacrifice.
I say to you, dear reader, please...if nothing else, thank a veteran for their service. It is all they ask for. I would also say these two things -- the first to a struggling vet, the second to the civilian they protect:

Thank you for reacting to that video. As a veteran the help we should receive from the government, VA hospital, mental health treatment, etc. is nonexistent. Many Vets are tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt because the VA won’t help and they get private doctors. You hear the government say thank a veteran, we’re going to take care of our veterans, but they don’t do that. They say what America wants to hear and do something else. The treatments that veterans need should be priority one to this country. The government welcomes us home with open arms and then pushes us to the side. It needs to change as 22 veterans a day take their own life. Just like some of other responses do you have gotten, you never forget. DSM USMC 1987-1991
Thank your Dad for me from and American Airman! He is a brother to me! I joined due to 911 I remember the towers falling when I was 5 years old and wanted payback I am currently stationed in Korea. TY for watchin this video. I live this every day. For those that have never been there are blessed. For those that have i stand beside you Brothers and Sisters. I served 16 years and truth be known i would do it again in a heartbeat. Those that can are there so those that can't don't have to and i am not belittling anyone who never served god bless you all. We are just cut from a different cloth (not better or worse) we did what we thought was right. GOD BLESS US ALL
I'm glad I stumbled across this reaction, and I appreciate that most all reactions to this song are unanimous. The numbers shown do only represent the US, which means it just gets worse.
3 tours, from 18-23yo, 24 now and I've been out about a year. The main feeling I have being home now, is the disappointment of feeling not needed and unwanted. When I was with my brothers, we all depended on each other.
The local VFW is now my place of comfort, and I encourage all vets to go to theirs.
I don't know if you've watched it, but another Five Finger Death Punch song I recommend is their cover of "Gone Away".

This really difficult to watch but
I force myself to. I need to be reminded,
there are many of my fellow Brothers suffering...They don't know how to deal with...All of it.
Our innocense is gone forever;
The barrier that keeps us from
doing something nobody should ever have to do, is gone.
All a Veteran wants is to be normal again; The very least people can do is thank them whhen you see them. Thank them for wanting to stand up and take the fight to the enemy so that you could live your normal life.
It is sickening that the govt chose to look at the Vets as collateral damage.
President Trump Worked hard on fixing the problems & get the help Vets needed. (He had to do it by himsel because congress does not care. If they would have worked with him, things could be even so much better!
In the time being, People need to try to protect, help and please show respect for each Vet that is suffering...Don't wait for a govt to do it because the Vet was doing it for YOU.

Coming from a family with a lot of Military members in the past, this really hits home for me. I have seen this video many times and it still brings a tear to my eyes.
After becoming a veteran post active duty... I felt homelessness for a short time luckily but the hardest part for me is losing my two boys. And of course this band's gone away song hits so hard for me... So many brothers and sisters who passed in war and too many who took their own lives as well. Those funerals where it's just the parents and maybe a sibling or two and those of us who were brothers in arms. It's difficult in the moment and having triggers like videos like this. These videos are so necessary though.

Just know that seeing these reactions and the fact you cried for these men and women gives me hope in humanity. Too many turn a blind eye or even worse some try to turn these men and women into villians. I never served but many in my family have and it's hard to get them to talk about the things they went through because it brings so much pain to them to remember. My heart breaks for the ones who have no one and suffer through this alone. Knowing there are people like you both who will cry for these men and women gives me hope that things can get better.

At the end when his battle buddy recognizes him and say "you save my life brother" and takes him with him.. that got me, that's a bond civilians will never know.
Being an OEF veteran, and a suicide survivor this song really hits deep. I know what the lost feeling is like, and facing those demons is a daily struggle. But a saying that always gets me through is that, "we are all alone in this together". To all who have any type of pts or mental health, do not give up the fight. Reach out to someone, and just know that the world without you would be just that much darker without your light shining within it
Five Finger has that effect with their lyrics. They do so much for the military community. We need more bands like them, and I can definitely say I reacted the same as you guys when I first heard the song/saw the video.
As an ex Royal Army Medical Corps CMT this song really gets me. it puts me in tears everytime i hear it as its so true, none of us feel like heros as what we do changes you. ive had the pleasure of meating 5FDP on there last UK tour and to have the band thank me for my service was amazing as i know the do a lot for vets. by far one of my favourite bands not only because of the music but how there are as people, all of them are hero's to me
The preacher in the end, he was in his platoon, my husband was a Vietnam veteran, he had ptsd, but we worked through it, he passed away 20q7, from lung cancer, agent orange
I’m a member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association and we just did a fund raiser with Chris Kael from FFDP to raise funds to help the Veterans in our area. Chris was nice enough to volunteer his time signing autographs for fans and even recorded a personal, very emotional video wishing a speedy recovery to a military spouse who is battling cancer. Can’t thank Chris enough for his support.
I will admit that I have 80% disability from serving my country proudly & 70% of that is PTSD. I don’t suffer PTSD from what I’ve done & seen(doesn’t bother me), I suffer from not being able to reprogram my brain to civilian life. I can’t turn combat mentality off! EVERY military man or woman suffers from a form of PTSD just by going overseas to fight!
I'm a nine year vet. 40% disabilities. 3 wars. I'm tired. But always interested to see reactions to this heart felt song. May my brothers and sisters be in peace. Hoorah and GO NAVY
