    I am 64 and play with a Wilson Three BLX. A predecessor of the Triad XP3. I am happy with it. Very armfriendly and a good touch. Well sometimes a bit too much power and a ball goes out, but you can't have it all. It helps my play a lot.

    Don't know why there's such an obsession with age.
    I've been stringing for over 40 years and also worked in racket shop's.
    The racket you use is a personal thing and just because you're older doesn't mean you neccessary need a lighter racket.
    It depends on what standard you were when younger as to what you use now.
    I use a Pure Aero as I've used the Aero Pro Drive from when it was first brought out and the racket you use also depends on your strokes.
    I think the best racket for an older person who needs more power is the Head TiS6 which is perfect for the casual player but far too light for the good player.
    It's also cheap but the best thing is to demo a few to see which is best for your game.

    I'm 63 and have been at the 4.5 level for the last 30+ years. I played #1 singles & doubles for my college (D3) and USTA leagues since the early '80's. My last two racquets were the Prince Pro 100 (5-10 years ago) and the Wilson Blade 98 (5 years ago until 2020). My game had been on a gradual decline and I wanted to make a change. I hit with a good 4.0 player who had a Weed (135 sq in!) and thought I should consider trying a larger frame. I demoed a couple of racquets (but never received the Weed I requested). The Prince Textreme 120 seemed to be the most promising even though it was hard to control. After a few practice sessions with a ball machine (I didn't want anyone watching!) I found that I could hit a lot of very good shots and keep a lot more balls in play with some swing adjustments. I've had to significantly reduce the swing length on serve returns and groundies and block most volleys. And I cannot hit at more than 80% swing speed or I'll lose control of the shot. But I'm playing better than I have in the last 10+ years (mostly doubles with other 4.5 seniors). I even persuaded another very good 4.5 senior to switch from the Blade 98 to the Prince Textreme 110. We both use Tourna Big Hitter Silver 7 Tour 16 (62# for my 120 and 56# for his 110) since that string maintains the tension very well. I had thought I wouldn't use such a large frame until I was much older. But I guess I am "much older" now!

    • @racketman2u
      @racketman2u Месяц назад

      that makes sense; I'm 68 and enjoying the feel of the Textreme Tour 100, although I suspect the 100P might be better for my volley and slice, but maybe going back to too harsh.

    Thanks for the recommendation. At 65/+ I am a Doubles Specialist looking for a new stick. The Pure Drive 107 will be at the top of my demo list. Even back in the 1980’s and 90’s I played USTSA tournament tennis with oversized to add power to my all court game. At 5’6”” 145 lbs I needed a little more power to compete with the bigger guys. I always like the extra surface to hit the kick and slice serve. Now it’s Tuesday / Thursday nite Doubles on clay courts. It’s still fun to take a second serve a “ chip and move in” ( we use to say charge but today I don’t move as fast). Thanks for the high quality professional information you present.

    An idea for a future episode...the HEAD Graphene 360+ Radical PWR comes with two stringing patterns...14x19 for more spin and 16x19 for more control. So, what I was wondering is how the 14x19 spin friendly pattern compare with the other spin friendly racquets in HEAD's lineup, and how does the 16x19 for more control compare to other control friendly racquets!

    I’m 77 years old. I play with a Wilson six one 95, a Wilson 90 six one tour, Wilson 90 Roger federrer 97 signature pro staff. I wrap 1/2 oz of lead tape the handle of the racket under the grip and I put half ounce of lead tape along the top of the racket on all of them. I still drive the ball and hit topspin when I workout with my younger practice partners, one is a 17 year old 6’3” high schooler. And another is a 50 year old high school tennis coach. Am able to drive them off the baseline with high kicking topspin or flatter heavy balls. I’ve tried playing with the lighter more powerful rackets but don’t like them. Any recommendations?

    Great info on lesser priced nice racquets,,thanks tennis spin.
    I myself have found a very inexpensive way of making an old racquet feel new and giving it a face lift,remake,,Just by removing the factory butt cap of ANY racket and installing the XTP Xtended Tennis butt cap,it bos makes that same racquet half an inch longer and irs legal to play with a racquet up to 29 inches in length. Although most racquets are standard 27 inches but many pros now are in fact playing with XL extra long models 27.5 and even longer.,this is a very easy cheap way to exeperament with a racquet you kinda put aside for whatever reason,,But now making it a Beast by adding a little more head heavy ,spin,power.thx.jk

    The age in years is not more than a number. It says nothing about what racket will fit. It‘s much more about your playing style and physical fitness! Every beginner of course should use a racket for his/her needs, but not a question of age as main point. I‘m in my sixties now, just bought a new Babolat Pure Strike 100 and strung it with the RPM Blast. I‘m able to shoot many players, 20 or 30 years younger, from the court… 😎😉😎

My perfect spec is 100-102" with 65RA and hovering around 11.4 oz. strung. 320 swingweight. Strung with Gut/poly hybrid. I may end up playing with a 110" some day. Not ready for those frames yet. You took a 2 sentence comment on You Tube and from that you not only summed up my tennis game but provided a psychological evaluation as well! Damn you're good! As I mentioned, I have several of those racquets. I didn't get them for decoration, I've played extensively with everyone of them, in some cases for years! Ego has nothing to do with it, i even demo'd a Big Bubba. I'd play with a junior racquet if it improved my game. It wasn't until I went back to my PS that I became virtually unbeatable in my tennis circles. YOU may have a problem swinging a man's racquet, but I dont. I hear Wilson makes a pretty pink 9 oz racquet you might want to try. If you're ever in NC look me up, I'll let you pick which racquet I play with, even my old Jack Kramer strung with 50 year old Victor Imperial blue spiral! I promise you'll have a better perspective on ego when you leave the court.

    Seriously, how can you recommend ultra stiff and light frames for tennis elbow sufferers? I am in my 60's and have purchased very stiff, 10 ounce, extended length frames in the 115 sq. inch or slightly larger (namely, the Wilson K Factor KZero which played well) head size and the stiffness does catch up with your arm. Could I play with them? Yes. Did I enjoy playing with them? Not so much. They lacked touch and often lacked stability - I always ended up making them heavier to make them more stable, usually by adding a leather grip. And, the stiffness would eventually catch up with my elbow and wrist meaning I would have to take breaks to let my elbow and wrist heal. I have not played with them but maybe the more flexible the Clash 108 or the Wilson Blade 104 v.7 would be good options for seniors. I currently play with the old Head MicroGEL Radical Oversize. It lacks power and is demanding because of its dense string pattern but my arm is much, much healthier. I started playing with flexible and arm-friendly wood and aluminium frames and I still much prefer a flexible frame for control and comfort. Maybe you have to be of my generation to understand.

    • @davidglover9210

      Try the Head TiS6.

    • @tedneanderthal7373
      @tedneanderthal7373 4 года назад

      @@davidglover9210 The Head TiS6 has an RA of 75, is 27.75 inches long and is 8 points head heavy. I could never play with those specs. It's an unwieldy board. The Wilson K Factor KZero is a much better option; I own 2 of them but I hit the ball so hard that I will feel the stiffness after a couple of hours of play. But, like I said previously, I like flexible frames and will continue with the Head MicroGEL Radical Oversize. I add a little lead tape at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions of the head for added stability and power. I wish the string pattern was more open but I love the forgiving flex and the touch it has. It volleys great and its standard length makes it maneuverable and is what I am used to. The extended length frames are good on the serve and from the baseline but I always seem to misjudge short balls with them and get jammed. It seems the Tennis Spin guy likes to sell top of the line and high end racquets to his customers. I tend to be close-out frame buyer. That way, I can buy two so that I have a spare frame if needed.

    • @spanishbloke
      @spanishbloke 4 года назад +1

      Great comment. I play with a ProKennex tour, low power and low flex rating. Add small amounts of weight in head and handle to improve the heft, but staying head light, loose and soft strings give a bit of added power, and continue to play and compete.

  • @baysbill
    @baysbill 10 месяцев назад

    In such rackets for older players, my concern is how "head heavy" they are. Because reaction time seems to be what goes first with age. This seems more of a factor for someone who still wants to take a full swings at the ball whenever possible. If I'm only going to block/chip the ball, then reaction time is less of a factor and extra weight in the head would be more desirable. This concern seems validated when I watch 65 and up players on RUclips tournaments, where most of the shots are slice.

    People don't realize that's a lot of weight. The regulation baseball is only 5 oz. So those rackets are twice a baseball. So you're basically pitching that weight every time you serve. And we wonder why there are a lot of frozen shoulder, bicep tendonitis, rotator cuff problems?!?!?

    Interesting fact for you that völkl is actually pronounced fohlkl 😃 in Germany they pronounce V as an F and the ö is more like oh because of the umlaut over the o 😊 like Volkswagen is pronounced Folksvagen (I won’t go into the whole W thing 😂)

    Anyone use the Gamma Bubba Razor racket? I think it’s the largest racket you can buy.

    Makes
    No sense. Useless review. Age doesn’t matter and how about a random selection of racquets wow
