I’m glad I found your channel! Great video. I played from the age of 12 until about 19. Then I stopped playing for over 20 years. My son started taking lessons, he’s only 8 years old. Watching him got me wondering if I could still play. I decided to take lessons so I bought a Wilson Pro Staff Precision 100 off the rack at Dick’s Sporting Goods. I started in January playing in the intermediate class. I’ve now moved up to the advanced class and I decided to look into tennis rackets. Thanks for the content!

I play mostly baseline attacking and coming to the net on approach shots. I found my dream size racket at 93 sq inch headsize. Allows me to hit winners and love the pin point precision. If they ever make the 85 inch again, I'll buy 2 😀

Dunlop cx 200 tour is a stellar serve and volley racket. As a platform it can be customized to an absolute weapon, and just on value and price I would place it above all those rackets you mentioned.
Definitely a great one, we just don't carry it at the moment.

I consider myself a counterpuncher and I'm using, for the last 5 years, a Dunlop Aerogel & 4D 200 (98 sq.) with a 24 kg string! That's my sweetspot ever!

I am an all court player with a 1h bh and my two favorite rackets I have tried are the blade 98 18x20 v8 and v9. My backhand gets plenty of spin and feels very in control. I love the feel at the net i can stick a solid volley or touch in the short angled ones. And it feels by far the best of rackets i have tested for serving. My racket history is pro staff 6.1, yonex super rd tour and head liquidmetal prestige mid then a loooong break until recently.

For a one handed backhand: smaller head sizes, thinner beams, standard lengths.
don't forget more head light racquets for maneuverability. It's tricky because you want a maneuverable racquet since you'll have to improvise sometimes , but for return you still want a heavy racquet to not get beat up by heavy serves.

Interesting thoughts. The all court rackets tend to being very head heavy (blade and T-Fight), or at least not very head light which I’m personally not a fan of. Although I accept they’re both pretty light so could tail weight them.
For OHBH VCore 95 is a dream. Also really enjoyed the Percept 97 when I hit with it on my OHBH. TF40 315 also nice for this shot

The Blade isn't too sluggish but I certainly understand that sentiment for the T-Fight. I agree that the faster the racket, the better it will be for all-courtedness.

Which level would you classify the categories referred to as intermediate and advanced in this video? I have played regularly for the past 3 years and am around 4.0 NTRP but find it difficult to define my playing style (for now). I currently play with the Gravity Pro, but based on this video I am thinking about switching to the Speed MP. Thoughts?
I would consider a 4.0 somewhere between intermediate and advanced. If you are playing with the Gravity Pro and don't have any issues with it then keep going! That said, a lighter racket could help you out a little more. Beginner will be anything through 2.5, and intermediate would be 3.0 and 3.5 and some lower level 4.0s.

Which one is convincing you the most?
@@user-eq7ii2ud6c for me personally, if it was for competition it would be vcore 95. For fun it would be either prince phantom 93p or head prestige pro. It is a big list I gave to cover a large variety of players.

My backhand isn't great, but I am actively trying to improve it. I currently use the Wilson Clash 98 v1 but I think I am struggling with the low stiffness and thicker beam.

Yes, the Gravity MP could be a great all-court racket as well. It definitely could have made the list, especially if you add a bit of weight to it.
Thanks for the great video. I currently utilize a Mantis 285 CS II racquet since I am in the intermediate category as a player. As a small tennis brand, Mantis is on its last leg. Have you heard anything about Angell tennis from the UK? They focus more on custom racquets. Diadem tennis is another small brand from the US with a good reputation.
Yes, I've heard of all of them and played with some but we don't carry them at the store.

I'm a big fan of the previous Ezone 98 but I have to say, objectively, the 2022 is an improvement in nearly every metric.

Yes! The Clash 100 is a fantastic racket and if you want something almost equally comfortable but with more feel/precision, go for the Gravity MP.
in terms of intermediate level for players with ohbh I recommend the Wilson Blade V8 100. A brilliant racket! It's quick in the air with power, spin, feel, touch, and at a low swingweight it's very stable. Cheers!
You correct! I'm a intermediate player that plays 4 times a week. I used the blade 98 for ages and I felt like I needed a bit more power. I've just switched to the blade 100 and it's amazing! Wish I knew about it sooner! It has a little less control but still amazing!
Just be careful not to get the 100L since it’s noticeably more powerful with higher RA. It is a great racket if you hit with more spin tho. The 100 or 100UL is lower powered, if you need more control

Awesome video! I am 47 and play with an older pure aero 100 but have arm issues now. What would be a good racket to use that has a mix of spin/control and some power. I mainly play doubles but it’s high club level competitive
I would really try the newest Aero 100 if you can. It's much more comfortable than older Aeros.
Great video like always Luca. I want your advice. What racket you recommend. I’m was 4.5 player but I have more than 5 years don’t play. I go back is for that my question. I play more on baseline but serve and net more than normal. I play with a lot of spin and one backhand. My biggest problem is I have tennis elbow from my 20s now I have 49. What brand and kind you recommends. My last rackets is volkl brand
Thank you! I think the current Wilson Blade could work great for you. Good spin, but quick for the one handed backhand and you won't have any issues with discomfort.

Yes, definitely something I'd like to do.
I'm an all-court player. Mainly serve and volley in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and then moved to more of a baseline game as racquets and strings changed to favor baseliners. The moved to more topsin baseline strokes. And my racquet of choice is the IG Prestige: 95 square inches, flexible thin-beam, 18x20 string pattern. I also have an RF97 in the closet. If I had to replace my racquets, I'd consider the RF97 though I'd be open to current generation Prestige which has the smallest headsize.
On one-handed backhands: the general consensus that I've seen in discussions is small headsize, dense string pattern, flexible racquet. Obviously there are great players that use large headsize racquets, open string patterns and stiff frames. I suspect that it depends on the type of one-handed backhand. The older precision players probably preferred traditional while those using a lot of topspin may prefer the more modern.
I had some severe arm issues so I dropped to low 60s for flex. I can play with the RF97 but that's the only exception I'll make to play with a medium-stiff frame.
Your video is nice in that it narrows down a huge choice in frames. Tennis equipment is an exercise in choosing from massive options. Frames, shoes, strings, bags, and balls.
I have elbow problem too but not too much. The traditional recommendation is a flexible racquet is better for arm problem. And the explanation is a stiff racquet would transfer the vibration to your arm.
However, string is the main thing. If you play with stiff poly string, the low flex racquet won't help you.
For me, using a stiff racquet like Babolat Pure Drive with multi filament or hybrid string strung at low tension is the cure. You just have to adjust your stroke to play at low tension. With low string tension and stiff racquet, I felt like the racquet is doing a lot for me to absorb the opponent's pace without sending the vibration to my arm, because the string bed already absorbs most of the force. What is left is taken care of by the stiff frame, so I felt very little or not at all depending on whether I hit the sweet spot or not.
@@tomsd8656 My Prestiges are weighted to 13.25 ounces and they effectively absorb a lot of stuff before it gets to your arm. The bigger issue with poly for me is dead poly. One of the other things that helps a lot is the Flexbar.

The problem I run into demoing racquets is that I can quickly understand how to extract the maximum benefit from a racquet and so I quickly am noticing the pros and cons of each one that I use. I think there are lots of good rackets on the market these days. It's a little difficult deciding what aspects of my game I want to maximize based on the racquet I choose.
The Radical MP needs a place on this list. It's my weapon of choice for Aggressive Baseline / All-court with one hand backhand.
For a "intermediate" one hand would you reccomend the MP over the Pro one (radical) ?

Thanks for your very good summary. I tried a lot of rackets and found that the Wilson blade 16x19 was the best , especially well suited for the single handed backhand. I found the 18x20 blade a little too low projection and low powered but the 16x19 is so good .

I been using the pro staff 97 v14 for my all court game style. I prefer the more direct feel of it compared to the blade and difficult shots like half volleyes feel way easier. Just my opinion tho
Good video! But there are alot of advanced players and pro players that use pure drive, pure aeros and ezones in their 100 inch variant. I think they should have a place in your advanced players recommendations.
They are just great rackets in general and part of the reason is that so many different types of players can use them. I'm just not sure what category they would fit into in the "advanced" categories.
Hi from France. I’ve got an one hand backhand so i can eventually help (….) : I have played a very long time with a prestige classic and liquid metal (mid of course). The Wilson pro staff 90 for a few years. But (and it’s incredible) the best feeling I’ve ever had was with….. a Babolat Pure drive ! The power of the racquet, the stiffness, the weight : everything is perfect for that shot. So if you’ve got a good one hand backhand go for it, you’ll be surprised. And it’s even great for your serve and volleys…
The little problem for me is the forehand : not enough weight i think; the sensation and so the confidence may get lost on that shot. For the rest it’s a perfect racquet (i string it with Signum Pro Firestorm 1.20 at 22kg).
I’m going to try another things these days, just to see : prestige MP and MP L and the speed pro. 18x20 is terrific for the control i absolutely need. I’ve tried the Head gravity pro but didn’t like the shape of the racquet.
So Luca maybe you could tell me if the Wilson Blade (18x20 or 16/19) give enough power ? I know they have good control but I would like to have some relatively ‘easy’ power too… and what would be your ranking of the racquet I talk about here (prestige mp, mp l, speed pro.. and then the Blades). Hi Nicolas! Thank you for your support. I think the Blade may be a little too low powered for you. If you do want something with a 98 square inch head that has more power, try the Ezone 98, it's fantastic!

If I need a racquet with the most power and spin(from babolat) will the pure aero rafa origin be a good choice? I compared it with the pure drive 100 and 98 it is heavier has more swingweight and its stiffness is around 3-4 less than the pure drives. What do you think?

Hey Luca, advice needed 🙋♂ I started tennis after 15 years of not playing, I have pretty good technique. I started with Wilson PS v13 because I’ve played in childhood with the PS 6.5, but I’ve got shoulder issues from serving, I stepped down to 300g of Babolat PA 100 2023 and now I struggle with golfer elbow/biceps tendon pain. Maybe I’m not that young anymore at 31, so I need to adjust the technique to use more body power not just the arm, but i’m searching for a new racquet to help solving the pain. Should I switch to Wilson Blade 98, Head Speed MP 2024 or other? I still want to be competitive for amateur tournaments, thanx.

I think an important part besides racquets are the strings. I'm something between serve&volley and aggressive baseliner (one handed backhand what what's it worth), play with VCore 95 (with some additional lead in handle and 2&9) and for me, hybrid gut/stiff poly, gauge 17 (1.25 and 1.25/1.23 is great combo. Tried full poly, hybrid poly, but was missing the feel. With hybrid poly combo, spins, slices, serves are great, but miss the feel and touch. And polys go dead quickly.
So my favorite strings are
mains: Babolat VS Touch or Wilson Gut (Wilson is about 20% cheaper than Babolat)
crosses: Solinco Tourbite, Kirschbaum Supersmash Orange, Yonnex PolyTour Fire
tried many others, but combo of the above strings works best

Don't forget to consider age if you're old. If you used to be intermediate or above, you probably will do best with power racquets (like Babolat Pure Drive) with multi string, or hybrid strung at low tension, or full poly of the more atm friendly type like Kirschbaum string, also strung at low tension.

Give it a shot but you'll want to change to a more precise racket as you develop better technique.
I am 63 (fairly fit for my age) and just returned to tennis after more than 20 years (ankle and knee injuries) having been an okay club player previously. But my racquet, Prince Graphite Comp 90 (349g strung), was bought in 1989 and I obviously need to update. I have a one-handed backhand, serve is my most consistent shot and I like to attack the net when I can. I can hit with a reasonable amount of power and direction, but my consistency of shot has yet to return (especially on my backhand, which I changed to two-handed in my teens but now one-handed again as I forgot the technique). Which racquet would you recommend (but not Head or Wilson)?

I have already tested Speed mp, Boom mp and vcore. All 100 Head size. Now narrowed it down to ezone 100 light (285) and Blade 100 Light v9 ( following your advise in your Video about how to find a racket) still thinking if I should include Babolat pure Drive Team in that competition. And also thinking what potential for my Development which racket holds. Would be very thankful for your thoughts on that 🙏. Really wanna Train a lot this year an start playing in tournaments. But also already getting tired of testing all These rackets 😉

also the control was okay but i found its very string sensitive...i use head lynx tour . but i dont recommend it for beginners
I find the control to be quite lacking but as you said, the comfort and spin are great. If you can control it, it's great but it's a bit too tough for me.

The VC95 is crazy good on serves but it's a little unpredictable when you flatten out and drive the ball from the baseline and when returning. I think for this reason it's not the best all court racquet
Ciao Luca! I wa swondering whether you have ever tried a volkl racket? Not a popular brand anymore and they have way too many rackets imho. However, should you ever consider making reviews of uncommon brands, think of volk. It is also a ski brand like HEAD.

I've been using the previous model 16x19 for years, great racquet, but sometimes lacks control, especially on balls with no pace. Do you think that the current model gives some improvements or it's just a paintjob?
It's a little bit softer so yes, I think a little more control, but it's so similar that I don't think it will be a significant enough difference to change the overall experience.

The Pro is great if you like it but because it's a little bit slower, it's not quite as good for all-court, but if it's working for you then absolutely stick to it!
opinion on the babolat pure strike 18x20?
I haven't actually tested it yet, unfortunately.
Question: I was a high school and USTA player into my first year of college before putting down my rackets for other pursuits. That was 25 years ago. I'm just now getting back into tennis but it's been a long time. Hitting over the past couple of weeks has shown me how much rust is in my game. I know nothing really about these new rackets and was playing Head Ventoris 660s/Trysis 230s before I stopped. Should I be looking at starting from scratch with a beginner or intermediate option?
You should look at the more control oriented advanced rackets like the Blade and Gravity Pro!
I just demoed the Boom pro and Radical pro, Boom was okay- but it hit a little weird(not sure that's the right word), not a fan of the Radical, but I'll check out those 2 on Friday, Thanks!

Can I get a comparison between ultra v8 and ultra 100. I just started tennis 6 months ago. My husband bought the blade but he just started tennis. Should I be using the blade instead of the ultra? Need your advice
The Ultra will be much more user-friendly and powerful which would be better for you if you just started. The Blade requires very proper technique which takes more time and development.

It's a really tough racket to swing. I'm not sure I can recommend it to anyone just because it will probably be too much racket during a long hit/match.

I'm a one handed backhand player and I switched from the Speed MP to the Aero 98. Incredible how easier it is now! Surprisingly what I have gained on backhands is lost on volleys. 🤔

I have a VS and can’t be used stock you need to add weight. I would say it is for advanced players .
How can you tell if you are beginner or intermediate? I’ve been playing for about 3 years now, and I’m trying to improve greatly in order to eventually play in college. I mostly play men’s singles and I’m going for a more power inducing racket with good spin control and overall control.
You are probably at least an intermediate.
I have the 285 g Ezone 100L Yonex. Is it possible to "upgrade" it to a 300 g racket by applying weights in the frame? If , YES..please advice how to do it.
Go with leather base grip, it's almost as good as standard 300g ;)

Any tips for an (improving) 3.5 player. I’m 6’4, ohb, forehand has decent amount of spin, serve is pretty big. Playing with speed mp but can’t seem to make my ohb work. (I know it’s mostly technique) I’ve tried a pro staff 97 wich felt much better for my ohd but was too demanding for my lvl.
I think the Blade would be perfect for you. It's more forgiving than the Pro Staff but will have the same benefits on the backhand wing especially compared to the Speed.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver I’ve tested a Blade v8 98 and didn’t really loved the feeling on impact, and its power lvl. Saw your vid about the v9 and how if feels better and I’m gonna test the v9, and maybe play around with the strings!

I am new at tennis, i am looking for a first racket, should i get a pure drive team or is it okay for head speed mp as a beginner? Any suggestion?
I think a lighter racket would be better, try a Team or anything around that 280-285 gram weight.

Are Gravity Pro and Radical Pro too heavy for a intermediate one handed player?
The Gravity Pro may be a little too sluggish for a OHBH and 315 grams in general is always going to be a little heavy, but the Radical should be ok.

Anywhere from 295-310 grams is where I think you'll play best. Anything lower will eventually become too unstable and anything higher, you can try, but make sure you like that higher weight before you commit.
Pro staff 97 for all courters also, but it's very similar to the blade
It certainly can be but I think the Blade being quicker helps it a little more.

Very surprised the Head Auxetic Radical MP was not included. I had demoed the Wilson Blade 16x19 (among a ton of others) and it was “nice” but nowhere near the feel or precision of the Radical MP.
Interesting. I'm not the biggest fan of the feel on the Radical but I know how many people like it and it could definitely have made the list.
What about head radical? Nothing more "all around" then this frame. But I see the focus on newer products... Understand...

The Strike is a tough one to classify. I think it can slot into the top 3 for aggressive baseliners.

Best racquets for flat hitters with eastern grip?
Anything with a small head size and 18x20 string pattern. Blade, Prestige, etc.

T-Fight is awesome except I can't get over the grip shape.
Interesting to not see certain rackets here: not a mention of Volkl or Dunlop (both rare but the people who use them tend to love them), nor of what I (50+ high 3.5/low 4.0 player) consider the most versatile racket I've ever hit with, the Wilson Shift 99.
Interesting that you like the Shift that much. I tend to agree but it's still a little nichey for me to put it all the way up there. Unfortunately, we don't carry Volkl and may even be going away from Dunlop 😭
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver Totally is about the Shift fitting MY game - medium swing speed, eastern grip with the classic 80s stroke. But the lack of brand variety in retail shops is why I've bought all my rackets online over the last decade.
