300g is the prefect weight, it provides room for customisation to offer plough through and maintain balance without it getting too heavy which will affect swing speed. Looking forward to testing this!
Tried it recently. Nice racquet. Good power and friendly on the arm. Was surprised too.
String recommendation for the Wilson shift?
Tried one and liked it, felt kind of like a Pro Staff 97 made for spin. Surprisingly could be my favourite racket to serve with
Thx for the review! Glad you guys felt the same way about it that I did - I just played a bunch with the 315 and loved it for the same reasons you guys did, excited to try the 300 soon as that might be a better option for me.
Glad to see the positive review... I'm looking to try this 315g out, coming from Wilson k90, I need something new that is less demanding. Will give it a go with leather grip though.
Try this racket along side the Head Speed.. similar rackets... see which you prefer..both good well balanced modern players rackets...
I really like it too when I demoed the 300 gram version. It is funny because like Nikki, I was thinking that this is not my typical racquet and I didn’t think I’d like it. But it was very fun to play with, good power and spin and feel too. It is not going to be a switch for me but I can play with it and would play well and enjoy it.
I demoed the lab 99 Shift, and give it the thumbs up, especially from the baseline. I got good topspin and control on both sides. I still serve better with my Clash 100 V1 however, strung with soft poly.
Wilson Shift will be the racket of 2023 : i tested it, i loves it so i bought it.
Appreciate ur thoughts on this and super excited to try it out. Was thinking of stringing with Alu power, do you have a few string recommendations for it?
Do u know what specs both rackets had ? I got 5 of the new release 315 g version. and the differents are crazy.
SW unstrung without dampener etc.
1x298
2x290
1x284
1x308 😁
"Not a spin racquet." That's not what Wilson claims. They are marketing it as the most spin-friendly racquet on the market.
I play with the blade v7 and just saw this when I was ordering the v8 to demo, might need to throw this one into the mix
Thanks for the review, how do these two compare to their head extreme equivalents?
Jonas, what string and tension do you use in the Shift 300?
I tried the shift project 310g...weird material...weird sound...not easy to string (MSV) and very hard on the arm. After 2 matches I took it back and bought a blade 305g night session.
Great video I got the 315g version but haven't had a chance to play with it. Since it's the same weight as the v13 pro staff, which racket would you say have more power and do you think the shift 315 have the same swing speed as the v13. I usually string my pro staff's at 52 LBS during cold weather and 55 LBS for the summer. Do you think if there's a difference between pro staff and shift to string them at a higher or lower tension?
Recovering from a shoulder bursitis and labrum tear, do you think it is better to play with the Shift 99L instead of my ezone 98?
My shift 300 first and last impressions. I hated it:
First of all it’s thick like an ultra 23 mold with more weight in the head. Shift has an identity crisis. They say it’s in the middle of power between blade and ultra…. Blade v8 in general offers more power….. you have to go for the shot in order to extract shifts power and then yeah it offers more. Sweet spot is tiny….. this is actually an unusual con for a 99 inch racquet that supposedly has more power than a blade. It feels thick through the air and specially on the head area…. not so fast for drop shots and volleys small wrist actions…. not enough pop on defensive situations. It had ok power and great spin/byte on kick serves which was my fav shot….. flat and slices were ok too. Feel is very close to clash v2 (not v1) and not on blade/pro staff level….. i would say that i prefer ultras harsh feel more which is more connected…. shift was more muted. I don’t know what the audience for this racquet is cause as i said spin generation doesn’t come for free. If you go for it yeah it’s great and offers great control but but but it’s for the modern spiny player with fast swing…. in the end i would suggest anyone to prefer a pure aero over this and call it a day. For me it’s a Wilson marketing flop that reminds heads non stop production of new racquets and lines. A racquet that unfortunately will put an end at our blades hopes that someday free power will return like it was on blades before v6….. cause Wilson now wants to sell shift as sth that offers a little more free power than blade which i said isn’t the case in reality and i even found blade to offer more forgiveness and ease of play. Shift can sometimes become unpredictable on flat shots when your contact is not clean…. this is the clash effect…. same flat shot can land in and sometimes long without giving you the reason….. lack of feedback obviously. My demo was strung with element 1.30. I also never felt their new magic tech with the vertical bending.
what do you recommand for intermediate player looking for improving serve, flat shots with precision (don't care about spin) and easy maniability? one handed backhand still using cortex 2007 300gr and finding it good but very spinny always pushing me to do spinny shots. thanks
Is 55 tension too high with Tour Sniper, Restring Zero or Weiss Cannon Black5Edge?
I strung it at 55 with Tier One Firestorm. Feels controlled and not stiff. But want to try other string options.
Thanks.
@tennisnerd What do you feel about this when you compare it to Bolt B98V2?
Hey! As always, hope everything’s good. I saw the tenniswithdylan video and he said this is not the final version of the racquet yet. Do you think it will still change a lot? Because as of right now it seems really good and I personally really like the cosmetics
And another thing, sorry: how did you find the quality control?
I don’t know actually, I like this cosmetic but the important part is how it plays for me. Quality control was good for my samples
@@dale00 I was able to talk to a guy at Tennis Wearhouse Europe. He said that the quality control is much better with the Shift and the new Pro Staff line. All the rackets tested so far had minor deviations and were close to specs. That is also why the prices for these models have gone up.
They said they wanted to get it into people's hands first to generate hype, because the performance is different than specs would suggest. Traditional players, like Jonas, probably wouldn't be interested on paper. Smart move IMO. It should just be a cosmetic change.
Yep! Best racket I’ve found and I’ve tried probably 30 different rackets!
Hi, would you say is likely the same than Head Speed MP Auxetic, but in Wilson version?
I have 2 hammers and 1 rf 97. Not ready to try anything new yet.
Jonas… The 300 version is piquing my interest: is it good for one-hander, can it hit flat as well as spin, and touch shots??? Ciao, John
Yes I would say so
On the fence for this one. However 68 RA is holding me back - a bit too stiff isn't it? I thought we were all going to find that low 60s unicorn this year !
So apparently it's designed to be stiff front to back, but flexible side to side. Wilson put out a statement about it, because the RA doesn't reflect its real-world flex.
Thanks Jonas!
how does this one compare to the clash 100
?
It feels like the first gen wilson steam blx 100
I got 3 of dem, quality control is fine.
I didn't see this in the comments or in the video, but what how much lead did you add to the top of the hoop? I have a 300 @ 305 swing weight w/ strings, and just brought it up to 314 by adding some lead at 3 and 9
Hola Jorge!
How much lead did you use? I have the same broblem. Feels that to swingweight is really down. No way near the 320 that they inform in TW.
@@petrinupponen8595 about 3.5 ounces at 3 and 9 👍🏼. Swing weight is now about 318
@@jorgetirado3201 you mean grams? 3,5 ounces is 100 grams. 😬😅
@@petrinupponen8595 oof grams sorry….I’m American and was cooking yesterday 🙄
@@jorgetirado3201 No worries! First thought was inches. But then, that cant be right. Then ounces, that cant be right eather. 🤣
I see that you customized the 300, you put just lead tape at 12?
The only and one question; How does the throat and take back feels for a one hand backhander ? Does it give you the needed wrist freedom/snap of sth like blade / radical Mp for example or it’s closer to the bulkiness of clash 98 ?
Feels nice on the one-hander - not bulky
Hope this helps. I am a 18 year / 6 generation pure drive user. Switched to this almost immediately after demo. My one handed topspin feels sweet, it is helping me come over more than I ever have. I have lost some sting on slice, but I think if i drop a pound or use a less stiff cross in my hybrid setup, it will wake up.
@@justingannon1939 300 or 315 ?
@Dennis XJapan 300 but put lead at 3 and 9. Strung mains with confidential 16g at 52. Crosses live wire xp 17g at 55. Slice waking up after 6 sets and string loosening up a bit.
@@justingannon1939 1) did you got more plow with lead at 3/9 without loosing the fast swing ? 2) Confidential is a stiff string at least on my blade v5. How does it feel on shift ? 3) have you tried it with a Luxilon string like 4G or Element ?
Thanks for the first impressions. So, why would you prefer this over say Clash 98?
More control in the string bed!
Clash is more spin oriented, people who tend to strike more flat like tennisnerd won't have as much control.
@@Tennisnerd That's what I presumed. You can gain more control from Clash by using thicker strings, especially on the crosses; far cheaper option.
I totally dislike Clash, but love Shift. Completely different sticks, Shift is much better in every aspect to me. Maybe Clash is more arm friendly, but other than this, Shift is the right one, at least for me.
@@villiam7941 Fair enough. However, my concern with Shift (I have yet to demo it myself so I'm purely going off of reviews) is it's "metallic" sound which has always been a warning sign to me of hollow and stiff racquets especially when strung tight, detrimental to elbow health so I have always stayed well clear. Time will tell I guess.
What do you think about de pro staff X v14?
I am waiting for a demo, then we will review it
Which is better? 300g or 315g? I’ll mod it to c.339g. Please HELP.
Currently am a 2022 new extreme tour user. Total weight is 341g strung with dampeners, 4g weight at 3 & 9, tourna gel replacement grip.😊😊😊
300g = allows for faster swing speed and room for customisation in order to prevent overall static weight getting too heavy which slows down your swing speed.
raqueta del año no creo, los deportistas de elite no la usan. La yonex vcore creo que si esta como una de las mejores en cuanto a resultados
coming from a Babolat Pure Aero, this racket is an upgrade ?
I would say it is all a matter of taste, you will get a bit more control with the Shift, but more power with Aero.
Nice vid
Jonas, your service looks better. Smoother without that hiccup motion you used to have. 🙂
I use the Unstrung Nerds app 🎾🤓
Green shirt swings like Bernard Tomic on the forehand lol
Hi, How would you compare Shift with Ezone or Speed mp?
Ezone quicker through the air and slightly more power.
@@DanTuber better control for shift?
actually i hit w/ shift for an hour, and feel much lighter than ezone98/100...
@@djacjdsksqkwl Control about the same. They're both similar but i prefer yonex over wilson.
@@djacjdsksqkwl thats because its 5g heavier if on spec than the Ezone 98
@@DanTuber 98 or 100 ?
Does this racket best the Speed Pro?
Tough call - they are both good. For now, I prefer this one but need more time
@@Tennisnerd and you would take this over a Prestige MP/ pro or current MP?
I play with the MP g360+ and MP of new for more forgiveness but always liked the higher launch angle on the Speed Pro. I guess i’ll have to try a Shift when we get our hands on it in the uk.
Great video too btw
what is the funky song you play on your intros?
Collins Avenue
@@Tennisnerd The song sounds like background music from a 70's XXX movie, or at least that's what I've been told. 😆
Which one did you prefer? 315 or 300?
300 worked best for me
It looks like the Pure Strike.
is this just the prototype paint job - or will it stay that grey?
The final paint job is a color-shifting white that leans blue and back again
@@LunarEclipsism1 Working at Wilson? :-)
Looks like Wilson have made a serious player's version of the clash
It is not really similar to the Clash tbh
what is Nikki's racquet of choice?
He plays with a customized Radical
@@Tennisnerd is it the Liquid Metal version?
@@chrismicklitz6361 radical mp 360 plus.
Thx
should we buy it strung or unstrung?
If Nikki likes it
this racket is for nubbies or old chaps, if you are 17 to 50, play intermediate / advance. skip this use same as pro :)
Pure aero 100 2022 ? Or wilson shift 99 300gr?
