$1600 for tires. Thats a blessing my brother. Enjoy that Maserati. Im also in the FCA family. 2017 Jeep Cherokee. Now you got me working towards that Ghibli lol!!
OK Yeah, I had that same tick/rattle noise and also from the left hand side. I noticed it after changing the AWD transfer case fluid and was moving back and forth on my driveway to test it. On the bright side it looks like an easy fix since it's at a joint so no welding needed. That part is expensive though lol, so I'll live with the noise for now for a couple months until I buy the replacement pipe.
I had the exhaust rattle when mine was newer.. went away around 10k miles.. as for pinning the valves open you can pull the vacuum line and cap it with a vac line cap and the valves stay open.
No problem.. if you have any issue finding it let me know.. you will see it when you look under... the "nipple" in your thumbnail is where it hooks.. I cannot recall what diameter vac cap you need but just buy the cheap assortment from autozone and u will have 2 that fit snug.. I agree I don't drive mine not in sport.. and I hate using remote start cause the valves are shut! With this being said- I put the vac lines back to the muffler.. I felt I would accidentally end up driving in non sport mode or something! Lol... WISH we could just lock it into sport and default there... plus I decided well- I may as well have control over the valves if I NEEDED to be quiet... but yep, works just fine vacs removed.. the vacs shut the valves against the springs... no vac and they stay sprung open.. just don't forget to CAP the 2 tubes otherwise ur computer will see a vac leak- And I noticed you using my "start technique" did ya figure that out on ur own? ;-)
Haha yeah I'm the same way with using the remote start, doesn't sound the same with the valves closed. Good info, I'll check the site of the vac cap so I get the right one and yeah def dont want the computer throwing an error code. Haha the only way to start it, my dealer showed me on the first Ghibli I had and i've been doing it every since. Thanks again!
Rons Rides Definitely the GrandSport variant. Did you hear about the mid cycle refreshed Ghibli? My dealer told me they will be hitting showroom floors in the 4th quarter of this year.
So far I have to replace two sets of rear tyres due to wear and a set of fronts due to geometry issues wearing the inner shoulders of the tyres in 27k miles. I've also had to replace a single rear tyre due to a puncture. On the 20" Urano diamond cut rims a full set cost me around £863, so that appears to be a bit cheaper than you are paying over there. The first set of rears were replaced at 7k miles, it was an ex-demo car though so I'm guessing that the miles driven on demo will have been harder than I drive. The second set lasted 14k so that's much better. I expect the fronts to last twice as long as the rears on my Ghibli S, but some of that is down to us not having the SQ4 in right hand drive markets. This means that the fronts are just going to be used for steering. You mentioned getting the tyres changed at the dealership. The first set of rears I had done by a mobile fitter at home but they fitted standard P-Zero tyres rather than the MGT ones. This caused issues with the TPMS reporting faults even though it could get readings from the tyres. Once I replaced them with MGT tyres everything was fine again.
Thats good to know Mick, I may get a little more than 14k miles out of these, I did a few burnouts and such with them so the back tires were shot, fronts still had a little more life on them but figured I'd switch them all out. May get all season tires next time around because I dont think i'll really need sticky tires because I dont track this thing. All season tired will last longer and cost less as well. Just trying different setups to see what works out best.
Turns out what I was telling you about the car completely going black on the interstate and shutting off was because of one of the recalls. They have to order the part and should have it in by the end of next week. At least it confirms I am not crazy because I was like how do you duplicate that issue it was hard enough to explain. But it was definitely a scary situation the 2 times it happened, 1 time in Orlando on I-4 and the other in Jacksonville I-95.
I had the problem of the exhaust rattle on my 2 week old new car..... only 500 miles driven. And I'm wondering if its under warranty? And also should I just maybe muffler delete lmao. LMK thx
btw, is the new exhaust an improved design over the failed unit? Or was the failed unit defective from the factory? Did you by chance keep the old part?
I didn't keep the old part, I think they have to send it back to Maserati for inspection but its the same unit just a replaced part. I think I just had a defective one as you mentioned.
I'm not a biggest fan of the 2014's just because they had so many problems being the first model of the car and it has progressed so much more with the 2017's that I think you'd be happier leasing a new one over buying an older model.
Need to get in the Giulia, some potential there if you're trying to save some dollars, they drive so damned well too! don't think you'd be compromising too much with a well specced lusso pack Ti but the QF may even feel like an upgrade?!
Yeah that may be in the future for sure, I'll enjoy the Masi for the rest of this year and then do some major consideration come 2018 when I start making other moves. But a Giulia is not a far fetched option. I wanna stick with the Italians.
The Giulia is a great car but having been in a friend's QV its not as refined as the Ghibli. If all you want is the performance then its worth it but I'm getting old and like my luxury.
Oh yeah I'm putting away and investing for a few things but new tires were needed. Safety first haha. The QV's are really nice, I'm just ready to test drive it myself.
$1600 of wasted money... $240 of labor for 4 wheels hilarious. Instead of changing the tires from your stealership, find a reliable place, and buy the tires online... you could save almost half of what you spent.
I wish I could do everything on my own but I don't have all the equipment nor the skills. But I learned to stay away from dealerships if possible, they just overcharge you for anything. Regardless of that, kudos to you for having such passion for such a unique brand as Maserati.
Oh yeah I hear ya man, wish I had the equipment and know how to do it myself as well. But since I don't me and the dealership have a good business relationship. I service my care there and they let me use all of their cars for videos, so it tends to work out. And thanks appreciate it!
These are the tires that came factory with both of my Ghibli's, so thats 2 and a half years driving on them with no problem. I'd get those Pilot Super Sports if I had a super car for sure but not for daily use.
I think you are confusing Pilot Super Sports with Pilot Cups. PSS (and PS4S) are daily driving tires, they are in the same category as the PZeros, but there is no competition really between them. Michelins are so much better in EVERY aspect - grip, threadwear, noise and most important comfort. It's hard to realize what a night and day difference is between the shitty Pirellis and the Michelins unless you've driven them. Anyway, what's done is done, but you should do some research next time before plunging head first :P
Hey you know the saying, if its not broken, dont fix it. So I was just going with what has been working but yeah I totally was confusing the two. I'd be interested in driving a car that has them but I think all Maserati's and Alfa's come with Pirellis. I'm assuming you changed yours out for Pilots?
Nothing wrong with a biased opinion, I enjoy hearing from you because you're straight forward and not in a rude way. Thanks for the link and info, I'll check it out and seriously consider Michelins next time!
Ha I didn't realize you were behind me in the video. Watching the video I am like hey that looks like me. LOL
lol I was hoping you watched the video!
$1600 for tires. Thats a blessing my brother. Enjoy that Maserati. Im also in the FCA family. 2017 Jeep Cherokee. Now you got me working towards that Ghibli lol!!
Thank you! Keep grinding! I need to make a running cost video since this would count has maintenance/wear and tear.

Oh nice, good call and thanks a lot! Sounds much better with the valves open, thats the only way I drive it!

The right one looks like the grandlusso and the left one looks like grandsport
Yup you're right, good call. I didnt notice that at first. Whats your favorite of the two?
Rons Rides Definitely the GrandSport variant. Did you hear about the mid cycle refreshed Ghibli? My dealer told me they will be hitting showroom floors in the 4th quarter of this year.
Rons Rides I personally like the grandsport
Yeah as 2018 models I think, I'm going to be looking to film those and the Nerissimo when they come in!
Having the same problem with 2016 Q4 ghibli I didn’t know the warranty covers that exhaust

Right? I'm just glad it was a recall/known issue so that its under warranty and they have a fix for it to get you back on the road in no time!
Sounds awesome!
Thanks!
I had the problem of the exhaust rattle on my 2 week old new car..... only 500 miles driven. And I'm wondering if its under warranty? And also should I just maybe muffler delete lmao. LMK thx
Do you have a video with the exhaust rattle?
Yeah scroll maybe 14 videos back and I made a video dedicated to it.
btw, is the new exhaust an improved design over the failed unit? Or was the failed unit defective from the factory? Did you by chance keep the old part?
I didn't keep the old part, I think they have to send it back to Maserati for inspection but its the same unit just a replaced part. I think I just had a defective one as you mentioned.
Hey, I was wondering if I should purchase a pre-owned ghibli sq4 or a pre-owned 2014 quattroporte sq4?
I'm not a biggest fan of the 2014's just because they had so many problems being the first model of the car and it has progressed so much more with the 2017's that I think you'd be happier leasing a new one over buying an older model.
Rons Rides Thanks for the information!
My exhaust is doing the same noise Ron
I would take your car in, Maserati covered mine under warranty so they may do the same for you!
Rons Rides yes man
I’m going to take there before it gets worse
Need to get in the Giulia, some potential there if you're trying to save some dollars, they drive so damned well too! don't think you'd be compromising too much with a well specced lusso pack Ti but the QF may even feel like an upgrade?!

The Giulia is a great car but having been in a friend's QV its not as refined as the Ghibli. If all you want is the performance then its worth it but I'm getting old and like my luxury.
aaah I think it just wants to be straight piped! 😅
Haha that would be insane!
46 psi on that tire wow! ha
I thought you were saving for a house? :) I do admire your brand loyalty. But, once out of warranty, if you wait that long, buy the Alfa QV. ;)
Oh yeah I'm putting away and investing for a few things but new tires were needed. Safety first haha. The QV's are really nice, I'm just ready to test drive it myself.
Buy low/sell high, and only buy dividend-bearing stocks. I saw that somewhere. Enjoy that beautiful car of yours. Road trip!!
Thanks appreciate it!!
$1600 of wasted money... $240 of labor for 4 wheels hilarious. Instead of changing the tires from your stealership, find a reliable place, and buy the tires online... you could save almost half of what you spent.
I take it you do everything yourself or don't like dealerships? lol, just a hunch..
I wish I could do everything on my own but I don't have all the equipment nor the skills. But I learned to stay away from dealerships if possible, they just overcharge you for anything. Regardless of that, kudos to you for having such passion for such a unique brand as Maserati.

You made one of the biggest mistakes of your life. Pirellis are shit tires.
You should have got Michelin Pilot Super Sports or Pilot Sport 4S.
These are the tires that came factory with both of my Ghibli's, so thats 2 and a half years driving on them with no problem. I'd get those Pilot Super Sports if I had a super car for sure but not for daily use.
