Thanks for the wonderful reaction, this song is one of the important steps to understand the singularity of Angelina's talent. It's unreal like her, from a very young person, she choice to use her incredible passion and understanding through music in a splendid way, especially for these legendary songs. She is definitely the only 9-year-old girl who understands and has the courage and the ability to sing this song from Screaming' Jay, so imbued with his power, and reorganize it according to her musical sensibility and vision. I sincerely believe that this it's the most beautiful version of this song, over 60 years since it was written and there are much of versions of it, also interpreted by great singers. 💛🧡❤
👣Since day 1, - Angelina`s audition for "Norwegian Talents" 2014, Angelina has taken me on these amazing musical journeys, with so many of her cover-songs. Taking me back in my life to even before I got to buy my first own record. Like this song, and almost all of her earliest performances at 7 -10 yo, and quite a few of her covers from later years as well. All those songs that I, first and probably foremost, heard on radio as a rather young kid. I guess this is what "grab" my mind the most. All beside her age and her totaly skilled talent as a vocalist and as one who clearly has a fundation of understanding music and of what musical performance is all about.
The fact that she "studied" and learned from so many of those who founded and developed all the classical tecniques and styles of jazz and blues at such a young age, and fed herself and her talent with all this, and builded it into her mind and soul. This is what amazes the most me by Angelina. Then of course how she in the best possible way has been taken care of and suported by her family, to work her great talent into the performer she has become.
So, to me close to every singel Angelina performance is a journey. Back in time, or into the deep of what music -, and especially singing, is all about. And if that wouldn`t be great enough, she also tour me into myself, my emotional life and my own mind in such a way that I am always enriched, enjoyed and uplifted. So listen to her music on a daily bases, is all such a meaningful thing for me, as it is, I guess, for quite a few others as well 👣 🤗
This is the performance that introduced me to Angelina.
At first listen it was her mature, powerful vocals that blew me away. But what is really impressive for her age is the timing, back phrasing, soul, passion, details. You see many good young singers around, such as in the talent shows, but they usually don’t have the elements that Angelina has always had since a very young age. They usually just try to sing as high and loud as possible to impress.

She startet singing at the age of 2. The human brain is calibrated to learn language at the age of 2.

She begins with a soft, low-pitched voice, appropriate for "putting a spell" on someone, her growl followed by the high-pitched scream, the increased intensity and hand/arm movements on the word "mine" is a perfect lead-up to the sax solo, her head movements during that solo showing that she's familiar with it (probably during their practice session), and how much she's enjoying it. I like how she raises up on her toes the 2nd time she sings the word "mine" to help her reach that note and push it up and out with feeling. Her a cappella ending with the sustained note wraps it up with style. All of this combined demonstrates that she's not only been singing for 7 1/2 of her 9 years, she's also learned how to arrange an entire performance. 💕

I'm always fascinated when I watch Angelina perform this song. Her body language, her gestures, her looks at the musicians, the little frown on her foreheads or the dimples above her eyebrows. A 9 year old who has everything under control. She doesn't just sing the song. She celebrates it.
Thanks for revisiting this incredible performance. It appears to me that you have had a significant positive change in your reactions over time. I like to believe Angelina and her music helped inspire that change. Maybe a few other artists have also helped. For whatever reason, I am happy for you as you appear to be in a much better place and I wish you all the very best.
What is crazy is at only 9 years old she knows how to manipulate her mouth and jaw to create sounds she should not be able to create at this age. Plus perfect timing.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the pianist, who smiled as he read them? They were her wishes (instructions) to the band how she wished therm to play the music. In the band, she was called a boss.
Huge respect to you revisiting this. This is the closest cover to Screaming J. s original I have heard. Quite extraordinary from a 9 year old to catch the essence of this groundbreaking song, and even co arranging it. She is tweaking her voice in the most amazing ways to stay close to the sound of the original. Deep and heartfelt with lots of "voodoo".

I have to comment, even though I am many hours late. This little girl arranged a song based on a 55 year old black American singer who played this like a voodoo song with bones in his nose and a skull on a staff and the deepest male voice you have ever heard ( I think someone said he was the first shock rock singer) and she turned it into something palatable and still shocking in its own way. This will go down in music history ( or it should). I don't mind you having two goes at this song as it probably takes a couple of times for this rendition to make you realize just what you heard.

Ti dico i motivi per cui mi è piaciuta questa interpretazione: a 9 anni e qualche mese Angelina ha cambiato parte del testo per adattarlo alla sua sensibilita di ragazzina; insieme ai musicisti ha scelto l'atmosfera e ha in primis arrangiato l'esecuzione,la chiamavano " il capo" per via della sua consapevolezza e pignoleria nel voler ripetere fino a che non era soddisfatta. Se noti il suo atteggiamento alla fine è concentrata e traspare una sorta di dubbio che la registrazione fosse giusta. Ha usato ogni tipo di voce e controllato con bocca e lingua il suono che voleva fare uscire. Infine,sempre a 9 anni e qualche mese,i musicisti le hanno chiesto di potersi esibire ancora con lei perché si erano divertiti tantissimo.

If you go back to the Screaming Jay Hawkins origional Angelina is not singing a straight cover. Nor is it the Nina Simone version. So all I can think is that she listened to various covers and used the bits she likes. We see her handing last minute changes to the music director.

Why do I like this performance? Because it is completely impossible for a 9-year-old child to sing with such total conviction. Nine-year-old children, especially girls, have voices which can be shrill, but such young girls are incapable of modulating their vocal cords to produce sounds in a lower register akin to that of a singer who has been performing for years. I say again. It is NOT possible. And then there is the matter of someone so young actually having sufficient musical knowledge to be able to understand how such an iconic song sounds, let atone sing it that way. I've watched dozens of young female singers on talent shows. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over, or forgetting, her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star' or a well-known song from their favourite singer. And try to sing in the same manner and end up just singing as loud as they can.
I give up, :-) Even though my logical mind tells me that what I heard and saw when watching this video cannot be, The fact that
I saw her finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. Witnessed her occasionally referring to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
Her awareness throughout of what the musicians were doing and her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
And so, even though it is completely impossible for a nine-year-old child to perform in such a way, Angelina did it,
